Lesbian and gay students kissing in front of anti-LGBT protesters (10 May 2000)
Lesbian and gay students kissing in front of anti-LGBT protesters (10 May 2000)

Lesbian and gay students kissing in front of anti-homosexuality protesters at Oberlin College (Oberlin, Ohio, USA) in May 2000. Several hundred Oberlin College students turned out to rally against the protesters. The protesters—from Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas—also protested the General Conference of the United Methodist Church while in Ohio.

Paul Lynde gawd we miss thee

Jeff aka Miss Julie in Thailand; photo taken by Isaäc Koole and released to his friends at Wikipedia by Eleanor Silvers, Jeff's Mom. The white-headed birds on Jeff's head and his left arm are Brahminy Kites; the larger bird on his right arm is a young White-bellied Sea-eagle.
I likely would have packed it all in for lack of support and inspiration from Miss Julie and other LGBTI Wikipedians. Our mission here ends up saving lives with good articles and in the spirit of Harvey Milk - giving hope.

Examples of Lynde's sometimes risque gags on Hollywood Squares include:

Q: You're the world's most popular fruit. What are you?
Lynde: Humble.

Q: What is the most abused and neglected part of the body?
Lynde: Well, mine may be abused, but it certainly isn't neglected.

Q: In The Wizard of Oz, the Lion wanted courage and the Tin Man wanted a heart. What did the Scarecrow want?
Lynde: He wanted the Tin Man to notice him.

Q: Who are more likely to be romantically responsive. Women under thirty or women over thirty?
Lynde: I don't have a third choice?

Q: Paul, how many men on a hockey team?
Lynde: Oh, about half.

Q: Why was Nathan Hale hung?
Lynde: Heredity.

Q: True or false: in the recent world kissing contest in England, two contestants were disqualified when they got too passionate.
Lynde: Yes, but they went on to win in three other categories.

Q: You’re equipped with a pick, a sieve, and a shallow pan. What are you about to do?
Lynde: Joan Crawford's eyebrows.

Dear Dr. Laura

Terrific article on an early Internet meme

Top Ten Reasons why gay marriage is wrong

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms, just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
