Hello Gurt Posh. Well spotted. Thank you :) --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 09:24, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Few things about username warnings

Regarding User talk:Commercefinancialinc, When leaving this notice, you need to supply a reason for it, as well as you should be signing your name afterwards. Also, please don't leave notices for users who have not made any edits - it's not needed. :) You're doing some great work otherwise, though. Keep it up! Avicennasis @ 12:24, 27 Iyar 5771 / 31 May 2011 (UTC)

OK, that all sounds like sensible advice, thanks. And thanks for noticing the work. :-) Gurt Posh (talk) 14:20, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Added a reason and a sig at User talk:Commercefinancialinc, BTW. Gurt Posh (talk) 14:27, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Liber diversarum arcium page

GURT POSH please back off for an hour or so - or a whole day - if you look at the history, you will see I am in the middle of making this page, abnd due to your intervention, I have lost a load of edits - ironically those yi=our header demands. PLEASE LOOK AT THE DATE AND TIME OF EDITS BEFORE YOU WADE IN - I mean, thanks and all, for lookign at it, but give me a moment to write it first! In fact looking at it,you have cost me an hour's work, at least. THINK!!!!!!!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Markeyatgnapcorg (talkcontribs)

At the time I added the categories and tags, the page asked for contributions up at the top. So contribute I did. I'm sorry you've lost edits, but if you'd like more time to edit the article, then please consider either adding Template:Under construction, or moving the article to a WP:User subpage to give you time to work on the page. Wikipedia is a collaborative editing environment, so you can expect more edits like mine unless you isolate the article for solo editing for a while. Would you like me to move it to a user subpage for you? Gurt Posh (talk) 10:04, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you've also posted at Talk:Liber diversarum arcium, so I'll move the talk thread there. Gurt Posh (talk) 10:09, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

THANKS!

Thanks! OK, I'm logging off for the afternoon - it's all yours! Feel free to tinker, and I'll have a look in six hours or so. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Markeyatgnapcorg (talkcontribs) 10:20, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User:RAYOLIVERESQ

I see that you posted a User notice on my article under construction. As you can see, I posted a notice that the User page is an "article under construction." Thank you for your input. I was not aware that there was a standard logo that could be added. Also, I read that you are part of the Wales commons community. How did you discover my page? Thanks again. RAYOLIVERESQ RAYOLIVERESQ (talk) 15:40, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I saw your edit on Special:RecentChanges. You seem to be devoting most of your editing time to writing an autobio on your user page: please give us a hand with the many articles that need adding or improving! Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 15:43, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

your greeting, my changes

G'day Gurt,

I tried editing "wiki/Carboniferous" and shortly after I saved my changes and checked that they were visible, a) I saw that I had a message from you, and b) my changes disappeared. I'm supposing these events are linked; any explanation(s)?

Hello, and thanks for contributing. Yes, you can see from the page history that I reverted your change. The content you added is partly WP:Original research, and partly WP:Synthesis. Wikipedia isn't really the best place for that: content added needs to be WP:Verifiable from WP:Reliable sources. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 18:28, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Noted: {"A and B, therefore C" is acceptable only if a reliable source has published...} Thanks, WiPhi (talk) 18:40, 2 June 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Hello: I would be happy to assist in Wiki editing of articles, within the purview of my expertise. However, my User Page is an article under construction and serves as a learning model for me. By constructing my page, I become more familiar with the policy guidelines and with special embedded links which are available. I have the impression that the header / user page disclaimer which you placed on my "page under construction" serves as a block to search engines. If the header which you placed blocks search engine links to my page, then I am unable to attract editorial interest or contributions to the page. Kindly let me know if search engines have been blocked by the header which you inserted. Also, I would appreciate a rationale for inserting the header, when there has always been a notice that the page was an "article under construction" to be moved for article listing after discussion. Notices were previously placed as a Header and Footer. Thank you. Ray Oliver, Esq. 14:31, 8 June 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by RAYOLIVERESQ (talkcontribs)

Geoff Holder Page

Hi Gurt, I have added links out of the page, footnoted several reviews and included a bibliography. When you have times could you please review again, and remove any header warning tags you feel I have fulfilled, or at least specifically point me in the correct direction now.

Thank you,

Captainhero89 (talk) 13:56, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have a read of the links in the tags at the top of the page: there are several outstanding issues left, such as the lack of WP:SECONDARY sources. Notability per WP:AUTHOR is also still not clear yet: he has written more than 20 books, but that on its own isn't sufficient to show notability. Can you find more book reviews or profiles of Holder in WP:Reliable sources? Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 14:50, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gurt,

I have dug further and found several new sources from third party publications with examples of reviews and biographies of Mr. Holder, and I am on a continuing quest to further upgrade the page. I feel the only issue outstanding is currently the linking to the page from others issue which I will seek to resolve as soon as possible, could you please review again and get back to me? Many thanks.

Geoff Holder Page Revisited

Hi Gurt,

Sorry for creating a new section again, was not sure if you had noticed my addition to the Geoff Holder section above:

I have dug further and found several new sources from third party publications with examples of reviews and biographies of Mr. Holder, and I am on a continuing quest to further upgrade the page. (I am aware of a potential video interview upcoming amongst other things which I could put in as another biographical reference point as well.) I feel the only issue outstanding is currently the linking to the page from others issue which I will seek to resolve as soon as possible, could you please review again and get back to me? Many thanks.

Captainhero89 (talk) 14:44, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I assume you're editor User:Captainhero89, but haven't logged in yet. Yes there have been some improvements, thanks, but more work is needed. I've made some additional edits today.
But I also notice that although you say on Talk:Geoff Holder that you're "a fan who has been able to get an interview with the author, and gathered information from across the internet concerning him so as to create this page", yet you posted his official promo photo File:Geoff with Skull.jpg, as used in the Heritage Key reference and elsewhere, but citing yourself as the photo's copyright holder and releasing it under an open license. Are you the copyright holder of that photo? What's your connection with Mr. Holder please? Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 09:31, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I am editor captain hero. Yes I am licenses to distribute that photograph, as It was given to me with permission to release for educational purposes. I was allowed the photograph as I had mentioned in the interview that I was hoping to create a wikipedia page for him, if he would agree to that, which he did, and was kind enough to give me that photograph and access to some resources to help reference it. I am currently in contact with Mr. Holder in an attempt to gain more references and resources to help validate the page, so with your enduring patience I will continually upgrade it, and I would appreciate any and all help of course. If you could please check regularly to see if your demands are being met, it would again be appreciated.

Captainhero89 (talk) 14:44, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK then there's a problem with File:Geoff with Skull.jpg, because you've declared in the licensing that it was your own work, and that you've published it under an open license. Since it's not your own work, then you need to say so, and get permission from the copyright holder to publish it here. Wikipedia has to respect copyright, for legal reasons. I'll remove the image from the article, while this gets sorted out. Gurt Posh (talk) 14:50, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gurt,

Thanks for this, as this is my first article I have naturally made a few errors. I will re-upload with hopefully the correct rights and licenses attached. Thank you.

last warning placed on my talk ?

what are talking about - my last entry was for an inappropriate addition to 2011 in Science where Jack Kevorkian was added as a scientist - please quote me even one sentence from his wiki article that qualifies him as having achieved "anything" in science!--70.162.171.210 (talk) 10:47, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The entry says "Jack Kevorkian, American pathologist, advocate of euthanasia (b. 1928)", all of which are true. Don't delete content about someone you disagree with. It's vandalism. Gurt Posh (talk) 10:49, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
just because someone played one day in the NFL no one would surely write them up as suitable for the 2011 in the United States - in similar fashion that guy has done nothing, I repeat nothing, he did not discover create or achieve in science - as his article clearly shows if you have read it - all he can claim to notability in science is having somehow having graduated a medical school - his article does not even say he did a residency anywhere - let alone being board certified! - maybe if there was a section for 2011 in Medicine or 2011 in Philosophy or 2011 in Law - just to be clear he is correctly credited in 2011 and 2011 in the United States where in both places he is clearly notable and warrants inclusion.--70.162.171.210 (talk) 10:58, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Precisely: there is no 2011 in medicine, and medicine is an applied science. Your edit summary indicates that your primary motivation was not in improving the classification of his achievements. Gurt Posh (talk) 11:15, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
dude i would hate to be someone who had ever thrown out one of those last notice or else and to have done it on such shakey grounds as your preposterous arguement is - i hope you can sleep at night.--70.162.171.210 (talk) 12:04, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will do my best, thank you. Gurt Posh (talk) 13:05, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dell Latitude E5410

In regards to this article, I hope you will look at the 3 contributions of Pritwiki12 [1] At best, they should link to a manufacturer's site or wiki page. Rather, they put a link spam for realviewz.com How can this be anything other than spam? Evaders99 (talk) 09:47, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, several of the others from that editor are indeed spam. And the link at the bottom of the Dell article I unspeedied is the same as on the spam ones. OK, I'll re-add the speedy, thanks for the heads-up. Gurt Posh (talk) 10:26, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jamal Al-Karboli

Hello. You reverted this edit by User:Jamal alkarboli as vandalism, then blocked him for it. I'm puzzled: these links are articles from a newspaper and from the Red Cross sites that mention the subject, on an article that's tagged for more references. How was that edit vandalism?
Also please note that he hasn't even had a level 2 warning yet, let alone level 4. He was bitten hard as a newbie, with 3 level one warnings bombed at once by a second editor, after I had given him a gentle warning about not writing autobios, and his first draft of the article was quite self-promotional. But a block for adding a few references seems unduly harsh. Perhaps I'm missing something? Gurt Posh (talk) 14:17, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. It appear(ed) to me to be COI editing and link spam due to the previous warnings. But since you are closer to the article and know the history better, I will reverse the block and leave an apology on the user's talk page. --causa sui (talk) 18:03, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much. I hope someone without a COI will write more about him. There's not a lot about him online in English, and I can't read Arabic without an online translator. Maybe WP:WikiProject Iraq can help with this - I'll go post there now. Gurt Posh (talk) 10:57, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you decide to delete someone else's speedy deletion template, is it not a good idea to look on the article's talk page and make your case there? You will see that I made my case for speedy deletion. I would have appreciated an attempt at communication before you deleted my templates. I would be amazed to hear how you think he meets WP:MUSICBIO. He misses it by a mile! Fly by Night (talk) 01:10, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would have been best to post my rationale for removing the speedy at your talk page. The article does clearly assert notability, however: it states that he has composed pieces for several famous oud players, and that he won a presidential prize, and has performed at what appear to be important music festivals. It therefore fails CSD for db-a7, though you might want to take it to AFD. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 01:14, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to mention: it also says he was the oud player for the film Coco (film). Gurt Posh (talk) 01:18, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)Notability is not inherited, so it doesn't matter who he composed music for. To pass Criterion 5 of WP:MUSICBIO you need to have "won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury, Choice or Grammis award." The "President's prize" does not fall into that catagory; the president's prize won him a grant to do a PhD. Finally, WP:MUSICBIO does not mention festivals. Can you actually point to explicit guidelines on real policy pages to justify your claims of notability? I see you haven't been around here long ([2]), so I can understand you not knowing how things are done. But we have rules and guidelines that have been written and modified over many years. Fly by Night (talk) 01:24, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Please don't use the talkback template. I have a watch list. cheers. Fly by Night (talk) 01:24, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.P.S. The Coco claim is not supported by a single source. Until it is, it should be assumed to be false. If it does turn out to be true then that is another matter. But the article, as it stood when it was tagged, was worthy of WP:CSD#A7. Fly by Night (talk) 01:28, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, those are all good reasons to take it to AFD, but definitely not speedy deletion. Speedy deletion A7 for musicians is for school garage bands that are just about to release their first EP. Please have a read of Wikipedia:CSD#Articles (A7) for more info. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 01:29, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's where you're wrong. A7 covers people, bands, clubs, animals, websites, and even companies. As an autopatrolled user I am very familiar with all of the new pages guideline, thank you very much. Fly by Night (talk) 01:37, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, as I said, A7 covers musicians. But speedy deletion is for where no assertion of notability made. If it asserts notability, though you disagree, it should be prodded or AFD'd. Gurt Posh (talk) 01:40, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's when the article does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. The key word is credibly. If the article does not show how the subject meets WP:MUSICBIO then it does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject; ergo it's an A7 candidate. I've tagged and had deleted almost 300 "articles" so I sort of know my way around the block. Believe me. Fly by Night (talk) 01:47, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Claims to have been the musician for a famous film, composed pieces for famous musicians, etc. are perfectly credible. If he claimed to have written every note that Eric Clapton has ever played, then we would be talking about "no credible claim". The article should have been proddded or AFD'd, and not speedied. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 01:52, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Check the wording: it says credibly indicate, not just indicate, It's unreferenced. It's not that the claim is credible, i.e. realistic, but that some credible proof has been given. Besides, there was no mention of the film when I tagged it. In it's current state the article would have been tagged for WP:AFD. But don't forget that the article looked like this when I tagged it, and had done for the past hour. All the best. Fly by Night (talk) 01:58, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what I said, it credibly indicates notability. It did also needs references to back up the credible claims. You're confusing two separate issues: credibility and WP:Verifiability. As for the state the article was in, you said yourself on the article talk page that you had read the French version, so had already seen the credits for his film work. That's why the article should have been proddded or AFD'd, and not speedied. All the best. Gurt Posh (talk) 02:03, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please, don't insult my intelligence. If it does not verify notability then it does not credibly indicate importance. Simples. Good bye. Fly by Night (talk) 02:12, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please post a few more appeals to your vast authority and experience here, rather than admit you made a simple mistake. Good bye. Gurt Posh (talk) 02:14, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You think I'm wrong and I think you're wrong. Let's agree to disagree. Fly by Night (talk) 02:20, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okey dokey. Gurt Posh (talk) 02:21, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(TPS: ) I agree to agree with Gurt Posh. There is a claim to notability-->a speedy tag is not applicable. Drmies (talk) 20:08, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Braden ring

Hello Gurt Posh. I am just letting you know that I deleted Braden ring, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 02:28, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks for the heads-up. I don't think G2 quite fit either, but then Wikipedia doesn't have exact CSD criteria for what that article contained. Gurt Posh (talk) 02:29, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is not so funny anymore. I appreciate your help. Drmies (talk) 17:57, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clear Credential topic

Hi, thanks for helping me out with this. "The Federal No Child Left Behind Act requires that all teachers in core subject areas meet certain requirements in order to be considered as “Highly Qualified” no later than the end of the 2006-07 school year. Minimum qualifications include: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree, Possession of an appropriate California teaching credential, and Demonstrated competence in core academic subjects."

An appropriate (or valid) California teaching credential is synonymous with a "Clear Credential", that is, the teacher has been cleared by the Sacramento because they have met specific requirements to X subject area. There is also the "Preliminary Clear Credential", which basically means that the teacher must go through two years of what is called Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment" training before they are approved with the "Clear Credential". Anyway, how do we adjust this on the Centennial article? Wikimonstruo (talk) 10:44, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation. Is that documented anywhere online? Let's link it in as a reference. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 10:46, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help!

I notice you have done some tidying up of my article but as soon as it went live I immediately asked that it be withdrawn. I should have used "sandbox" . I have by no means finished the article but just wanted to see how it was looking.

She's notable because this murder and trial was featured on Dateline NBC, CNN, amongst multiple other sources. It surely is more notable than some of the other murderers that have wiki pages specifically Kevin Foster and Tiffany Cole. Rachel Wade's trial was also covered extensively on CNN as I watched every second of it. KING OF WIKIPEDIA - GRIM LITTLEZ (talk) 10:16, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gurt

This is not an auto biography it is about my father and I am his son with the same name. My father was a decorated war pilot in Vietnam and we would like to tell his story. He is a war hero and participated in many missions that have affected the history of our country.

My question to you is how to move it to the sandbox to get input from sibling to develop the references and history and not lose his name.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

It was all written in the first person, with "I" and "me", so it read like an autobiography. It will be very difficult to write about your father objectively, but if you think you're able to write it from a WP:Neutral point of view, then please read WP:BIO for guidelines on notability. Please feel free to ask her eif you have any more questions. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 11:52, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The best place to work on it is at the existing draft: User:Thesoltman/TJ Markets. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 13:41, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OOPS!

Thanks Gurt.
I got really confused when I saw that the original name of my Wiki Article "Snake Valley Astronomical Association (SVAA)" was replaced by "Snake Valley Astronomical Association" without the '(SVAA)' on the end. So I was hoping to connect them somehow. Seems not. Thanks for letting me know I did it wrong. User talk:Ballaratdragons

No worries! Note that I've already linked up the old title to the new one, so when you click on Snake Valley Astronomical Association (SVAA), it will automatically redirect readers to Snake Valley Astronomical Association. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 13:59, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Altered Speedy Deletion rationale: Patrick carraher

Hello Gurt Posh, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I have deleted a page you tagged (Patrick carraher) under a criterion different from the one your provided, which was inappropriate or incorrect. CSD criteria are narrow and specific to protect the encyclopedia, and the process is more effective if the correct deletion rationale is supplied. Consider reviewing the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. Thanks again! decltype (talk) 14:52, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Global Open University (TGOU)

i worked hard to put these information and you delete and revert them back to just basics ???the current info about the university is wrong...

<paste of the entire article, mostly copyrighted text from university website, removed by Gurt Posh> these are the correct info — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jinojjohn (talkcontribs)

Please STOP pasting copyrighted text from the university's website. Wikipedia cannot allow copyrighted information for legal reasons, and most of what you copied to the article is highly WP:PROMO marketing fluff. Gurt Posh (talk) 19:13, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding QuickBooks Hosting...?

This page should not be speedy deleted because it was written to explain the differences between QuickBooks Hosting Providers (not specifically, but broken down by category.) We took the time to rewrite this awhile back because the original article was written poorly and primarily targeted to promote a specific service. The only solution that was listed in this article was Right Networks as they are Intuit's Enterprise Hosting Solution. If there are any questions regarding such, please let me know. I've moved this to the talk page as a Contested deletion. --Jboutin (talk) 19:42, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So far all your edits have included links to one provider. The best place to make your case is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Quickbooks hosting. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 19:44, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Already did, but it's VERY annoying having to constantly stay at this. The article is both important, and informal. As stated above, Right Networks is verified as Intuit's Hosted Enterprise Solution (found on their own website...). --Jboutin (talk) 19:48, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You PRODded this dab, but the creator removed it without giving a reason. I've nominated it for AfD if you want to comment there. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 07:09, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Schizopop manifesto

the article related to Schizopop manifesto is being unfairly treated as being an attempt to create a neologism, as well as a promo campaign, which ain't true. Cordially, hundun soup — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hundunsoup (talkcontribs) 12:24, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, but the way to contest the deletion is to make your case at WP:Articles for deletion/Schizopop, and not by repeatedly removing the AFD notices on the two articles. Gurt Posh (talk) 12:47, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

EASAC

Dear Gurt,

can we please discuss what needs to be done in order to keep my article on EASAC in Wikipedia? I work for this organisation and need to present our organisation on Wikipedia. In my eyes, the statement I have made is very objective. If you like, you can contact me under: secretariat@easac.eu.

Thanks & best regards, Annika — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnnikaStroefer (talkcontribs) 14:08, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please have a read of WP:Conflict of interest, and wait for someone else to write an article about your organisation: it will be very difficult for you to write about it objectively. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 15:15, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Gurt I do think that you run the risk of pursuing the guidelines on non-bias too stringently - as long as the source is written objectively with third party sources then there doesn't necessarily have to be a problem. It's certainly not ideal, but is not grounds for speedy in every instance. Reichsfürst (talk) 10:23, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
EASAC - European Academies Science Advisory Council was written entirely subjectively, consisting solely of a paste from her employer's website, with no sources, as noted in the deletion summary. Gurt Posh (talk) 10:58, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was referring to the Memorial Park thing particularly - I just think we should be careful not to apply rigorous standards unilaterally. Reichsfürst (talk) 11:57, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Manila Memorial Park and Manila memorial Park, identical posts by User:Manilamemorial, consisted of one line of marketing about it being the "leading memorial park in the Philippines", followed by an acre of copypaste from the company website, with no sources. Gurt Posh (talk) 14:18, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gurt - Profesor Traductor Google appears to have been doing good things to this article, but even in that machine translated version it would appear to me an obvious WP:G11. ¿Your thoughts? --Shirt58 (talk) 11:15, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Funny, the original Spanish version wasn't G11, but the current English translation by the article's creator certainly is. You would be justified in speedying it, IMHO. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 11:19, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My guess is that it was started on es:wikipedia as just another article, but it came to immediate attention on en:wikipedia as one that was in need of translation. Perhaps we should wait a little while before applying The Stark Fist of Removal.--Shirt58 (talk) 11:51, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion - how to test format copyright material — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bantaxaver (talkcontribs) 15:45, 4 July 2011 (UTC) Hi Gurt - The material edited under user Bantaxaver is by no means to be published yet. It was meant to be a test area where the editing and formating of the related information was going to take place. I've moved it to a user subpage at User:Bantaxaver/DIGIC, and removed the copyrighted text. Please note that you can't have copyrighted text anywhere on Wikipedia. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 15:47, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Benefit Cosmetics

I have removed the speedy deletion tag on Benefit Cosmetics. I have cleaned up the article to remove the overtly promotional language, and I believe the coverage in major style magazines argues against a speedy deletion based on notability. A credible claim of notability is made, and supported by citations. Take to AFD if you think it is needed. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:02, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph Phillips (Serial Killer) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Does G10 apply to articles that clearly indicate the subject is dead? I'm inclined to say no. Google didn't turn anything up but it rarely would on a subject this far removed from the information age. I'll leave up the template in case another admin wants to review it, but my feeling is that PROD/AFD is more appropriate here. Regards, causa sui (talk) 18:23, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The creator's only other edit was today, and that was an attack page. But strictly speaking, there's no proof that it's an attack page, and if a reviewing admin decides to decline the speedy then I'd be OK with that. Thanks for asking. Gurt Posh (talk) 18:25, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of the article: List of cars available in India

Mr. Gurt, can u kindly give me a suitable reason as to why my article " List of cars available in India " was deleted? In case such things are not encouraged, the administrators could at least have mentioned before the page is created but here, after spending an entire day before the computer typing the list and making the necessary changes, I find that it has been deleted. I do not find any such law that says that such articles are prohibited from Wikipedia.

How can you explain the fact that a simple man, who comes to Wikipedia to have a list of cars to choose his next vehicle from, should not be the given information? Why would he, or rather, why should he go through an entire list of cars available in the entire world and tick mark those available here? Why should he go through the entire history of automobile industry in India, and just think of it- how would he think of "Automobile industry in India" when all he needs is a list and links to direct him to the car he wants to buy?

I kindly request you to let me reopen the article and do the needful. You might find the entire incident amusing OR you may been ban me for going against the board, but frankly speaking, I am shocked.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mohitk1993 (talkcontribs) 18:41, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, there's nothing amusing about it, and I have no wish to ban you. But the article had already been deleted following the discussion at WP:Articles for deletion/List of cars available in India, and the new version was not substantially different to the previously deleted one. Deletion of Tempest Brewing Company page

Hello, i put up the page for the Tempest Brewing Company last week only to find it has been deleted since i got back from holiday. I am confused as to why the page would be deleted as it provided the required information needed by outside sources and followed the same form as other microbrewery pages. If you could let me know the reasons, and re-instate that would be great.

Eric Pope

I have added three references to the page, so it is now able to be up and running by itself. There is no need for deletion, thanks - Darbaki Darbaki (talk) 17:07, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Two of the references were Wikipedia articles that don't mention him, and the third was an external link that doesn't mention him, so it will still need to be deleted since none of what's said in the article is WP:Verifiable. Also please have a read of WP:Notability (sports)#Association football: he hasn't played a professional match yet, so even with references the article would be deleted on grounds of WP:Notability. Disambiguation page

Hi. I created some disambiguation pages to write new articles. Is it impossible for you to wait our works ? And see Ahmet Ağaoğlu (disambiguation). I don't know when another article will be created. Takabeg (talk) 14:33, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's best to wait until the article is created, unless you're planning to write all of the articles immediately. And when there are only two names to disambiguate, then it's best to just use a hatnote. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 14:35, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ahmet Ağaoğlu (disambiguation) is a good example of what I'm trying to avoid: it was created last August, and still only points to one article. Gurt Posh (talk) 14:44, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot write all of them (Fahreddin Pasha (disambiguation), Bekir Sami Bey (disambiguation), Fevzi Pasha (disambiguation), Osman Nuri Pasha (disambiguation)) immidiately, becuase I have work. But it's easy for me to write them within one day. This is a kind of the preparation to make easy to write articles. I invite you to behave more constructively. Thank you. Takabeg (talk) 14:40, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That would be great, thanks, please do write them. And once they're written, we can add hatnotes for disambiguation, or if there are three or more to disambiguate, then let's create some dab pages. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 14:42, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just to let you know, I removed your WP:CSD R3 on Osman Nuri Pasha (disambiguation) as the page was changed to a dab, seemed related to this discussion. Monty845 17:01, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes you're right thanks, a third dab link was added. Gurt Posh (talk) 08:00, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gurt, Thanks for your help with the page I made for Global Standard Bank. There is another user trying to have the page deleted before it has a chance to grow with the addion of other user contrib. I think its a type of vandalism, as the same user entered into an editing war with me when i tried to include a link to the main Bitcoin page. Can you help?Bitcoineer (talk) 05:25, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

After some due diligence on "Global Standard Bank", it appears to be a scam. See [3], where pictures from their web sites are matched with the place they came from. The exterior picture of their building is really an office building in Seattle, and the interior picture of their offices is from a bank in Florida. --John Nagle (talk) 00:32, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. Nice work. Maybe this will return as line-item on an internet scam article, but as Kudpung says in the AFD, there's not enough info available for that yet. Gurt Posh (talk) 08:32, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your edits to the HDMA page. I would like to continue to include HDMA's mission statement and can recieve copyright permission, so how do I go about this? thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gallucal (talkcontribs) 13:46, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome. There's already a reference link in the article to the mission statement , which is the best way to include content from an organization with a promotional tone. We need to ensure a WP:Neutral point of view in the article itself. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 13:49, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok great! I moved it down just under a different heading but I am not sure if I moved the reference link with it so I am working on that. Thanks again for all your help!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gallucal (talkcontribs) 13:56, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That porn-star article

Actually, I reckon that was a G10 - I was looking at it as you changed your mind - and I have deleted it. It certainly comes under the section of WP:BLP which says: "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." Regards, JohnCD (talk) 10:16, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I saw that. Tricky one: the main text was a paste of copyrighted marketing, which I removed, but I have no idea whether the sites it was copied from are reliable: it could be an elaborate smear. Probably A7 in any case. Thanks Gurt Posh (talk) 10:18, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ruhet Genç

Dear Gurt and All,

My attempts to enrich the inside of wikipedia by introducing Ruhet Genç who is a perfect example of successful industrialist, business man and academician who built bridges between business world and academia by using both identities in each and every angle. Please alove me to make necessary correction if all needed to broadcast his life story through our wikipedia.

Frick thing

I know your problem... I'd say this is quite different and shows more notability. I'm not guaranteeing the reliability of the refs, as I've not checked them. G4's out, but that doesn't preclude others. Peridon (talk) 16:34, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I wouldn't be surprised, since I see no mention of a NYT reference in the AFD. It looks notable overall per WP:GNG to me: if there was an AFD on it today, I'd say "keep". Gurt Posh (talk) 07:49, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gurt. I don't quite understand what you've done here. The article is still showing with its title in all caps. I've deleted the redirect as an implausible redirect. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:38, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eek. Some sort of cache issue, looks like. When I clicked on history for MIDAN City, I got the history for Midan City. Then a minute later, the problem went away. It's not an implausible redirect though: some of their PR spells it MIDAN, and some spells it Midan. WP:MOSCAPS (and some other MOS I can't find, that mentions marketing use of Yahoo!-style marketing exclamations, etc.) seems to me to prefer the lowercase spelling. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 08:45, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There are several sever issues at the moment it may have been taking time to update move requests. I was also trying to move it so it might have been a weird edit conflict. Anyway, you're right, page names should not be unnecessarily capitalised.

Wrecksite and Archaeologist pages

I have been taking time to update the Shipwreck and Archaeologist pages and received warning messages in my email fromk a PTjoshua - on the link to that page was a link to here. I am a maritime archaeologist trying to update information, why am I being bothered with these warnings? I thought the entire purpose was to have information accessibility; and are you some gatekeeper for this? Are you a maritime archaeologist? Thank you Jgroyal (talk) 20:32, 15 July 2011 (UTC)jgroyal[reply]

I'm no gatekeeper, and I have no idea why User:PTJoshua sent you emails with links to this page, and I can find no edits by me in the edit histories of any of the pages you've worked on. It's probably best if you ask PTJoshua at User talk:PTJoshua about the emails. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 00:37, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I never sent anyone any emails and I have no idea what that is about. What I edited was Jgroyal adding himself and his website to articles. PTJoshua (talk) 00:42, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not Published (Still being worked on)

The book A Future Not Far, simply isn't published YET, but will be in a few months — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joe Grist (talkcontribs) 11:59, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's pretty unlikely that your book would be considered notable yet, as it hasn't been published, and none of your other books are notable yet. If you were as notable as, say, J. K. Rowling, and were planning to publish a book in a few months, then that would be notable. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 09:16, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ruhet Genç

Dear All,

I presume after making suggested changes on Ruhet Genç's biography (not autobiograpky though!) it looks and it is much better even Merry Shelly's biography which has been pointed out as a perfect example. Now it is up to you to accept as it is or ask for some changes. I realize it is somewhat difficult to reflect the quality of a personality on lines.

Sincerely,

Esra Oğuz. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ruhetgenc (talkcontribs) 09:43, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your username is Ruhetgenc, but Ruhet Genç, edited almost entirely by you, is not an autobiography? I can find no article on Merry Shelly, and can find nothing on your talk page, at Ruhet Genç or at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ruhet Genç about a Merry Shelley: what are you referring to? Gurt Posh (talk) 09:49, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your kind and speedy answer. Since the subject of the biography is Ruhet Genç i happened to use ruhetgenc as my user name. That would be nice to be Ruhet Genç that is not possible to be him in my case as I am female. Besides the point I feel very comfortable and content as Esra Oğuz namely Oğuz represent ancient Turkish tribe. But nevertheless neither this information nor the accumulation of my experiences entitled me to put my name in wikipedia yet. Excuse my misspelling Mary Shelley, likewise lack of dimension which represent Ruhet Genç on the paper. But I like the way you choose to critisize things. It is challenging and open up a way to increase the knowladge.

Thank you once again for your valuable time and effort,

Esra Oğuz. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ruhetgenc (talkcontribs) 12:58, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't got the faintest idea what you're talking about. Gurt Posh (talk) 08:01, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First of all I was just trying to mention simply I am not Ruhet Genç since you thought my article was "autobiography". Secondly, Mary Shelly is shown as an example for how a biography article should be in wikipedia and I think my Ruhet Genç article is as good as that one even better; more explanatory. As a third point, I just said I liked the way you ciriticize things. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ruhetgenc (talkcontribs) 12:20, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Joel Swerdlow article

Dear Gurt Posh, I see that you added (correctly) an autobiographical tab to the article I created on Joel Swerdlow, because I see that he did make a number of corrections. However, going over his corrections, I think that he did not add anything that goes against the NPOV requirement: he only dealt with small facts in his life to ensure accuracy or add a fact here and there. (At least, that is my impression.)The bulk of the article is still what I wrote. If you agree, do you think you could delete the autobiographical tab for now? As you can see from my user page, I have created many pages before and after creating his, and although I am interested in his works, I am not on his staff or even a former or present student. Many thanks! NearTheZoo (talk) 16:54, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's still quite self-promotional, making many assertions about his achievements that are either unsourced or unsupported by the sources given. He is clearly notable, but the article currently suffers from the problems typical of most WP:AUTOBIO articles. I'll try to look for references: perhaps you can give a hand with this. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 08:37, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'll also try to go through it later, perhaps adding some "citation needed" notes where refs are still needed, in addition to trying to find some other refs? Oops - see you've already added many ref needed cites already!
I do have one question. I see that one of the primary resources I used - the Archer Center bio - has been removed (although I'll keep searching to see if it is cached somewhere). What is the wikipedia rule for using a source that is later removed? The reference cite goes to a page that still lists the course Swerdlow taught, but no longer has his bio. You have marked the info "failed verification" based on the current situation. Is that the only option?
If you could keep an eye on the article over the rest of the week, to see if we can get it to a point where one or both of the banners can be removed, I'd appreciate it! Again, thanks! NearTheZoo (talk) 13:02, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The Archer Center ref is still there: it's currently ref 2. Yes I will keep an eye, thanks. Gurt Posh (talk) 14:38, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK - I have put in hours on the article, and it's shaping up, so please take a look. Some of the facts that I used the Archer ref for were marked "not in ref" -- but some were, all the way at the bottom of the page, and in those cases I deleted the "not in ref" cite. In other cases, I found different refs, including a bio that had many of the statements that you had marked as needing refs. I deleted a few facts that were pretty trivial (like Swerdlow's class activities in school) rather than tracking down refs for them.
There are a few facts that still (rightly) have the citation needed tags, and I'll work on them -- but I think that since there are just a few it would be appropriate to tag down the "poorly sourced" banner. Do you agree?
Also, now that I've taken out some trivial and perhaps non-NPOV facts and referenced almost everything else (and in a sense "recaptured" the article that I originally created in terms of my initial vision for the piece) I think it might also be appropriate to delete the "autobiographical" tag. I hope you agree. I have made contact with Swerdlow, partly in an effort to find more refs -- and I told him that although Wikipedia does not prohibit the subjects of articles from working on them in a neutral way, it is usually better to keep a little distance from one's own bio. He's agreed this makes sense.
Again, thanks for your help. I think the article is better now.NearTheZoo (talk) 03:48, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. Nice work! Yes I've whomped those two tags, and I'm sure the remaining cites will follow soon. Thanks very much for all your hard work on this. Gurt Posh (talk) 07:16, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
) Thanks for this action -- and for your keen eye (and civility) all along the way! I do think your observations helped make this a better article. I will continue to track down the few remaining cites. Thanks again! (By the way, on a separate subject, I am working on my "magnum opus" - the article: "Religious symbolism in the United States military." I think it has a lot of very interesting info if you are at all interested in such a subject!). Best wishes, NearTheZoo (talk) 11:56, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There are many sources on the Russian and German articles about Nicole Heesters. Is it also maybe a possibility to put all less-famous people from the family in one page called Heesters family? As with the Jackson family? Pierlot (talk) 10:53, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a bit early for an article on the whole family. First the Heesters articles need to be expanded and referenced. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 11:00, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a bit leery about re-starting Talk:Matt Jarvis (psychologist)...

... because doing so pops up this message (that you are without any doubt at all au fait with):

A page with this title has previously been deleted.

If you are creating a new page with different content, please continue. If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the deleting administrator using the information provided below.

  • 16:39, 9 December 2010 Wizardman (talk | contribs) deleted "Talk:Matt Jarvis (psychologist)" (G8: Talk page of a deleted page)

Wizardman WP:G8'd it. I might go ahead and start it anyway - that is, if you don't beat me to it - and add a message to their (Wizardman, that is) talk page. --Shirt58 (talk) 14:08, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Article doesn't appear to have been WP:AfD'd. --Shirt58 (talk) 14:17, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, article was previously prodded under the title M.J. (psychologist). This was re-created as M.J. (author), and I moved it to (psychologist) as it seemed a better fit. He seems potentially notable, if refs can be found for the claims of his book's widespread use in the UK. Gurt Posh (talk) 14:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Roger, wilco--Shirt58 (talk) 14:44, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
The article was deleted due to being an expired WP:PROD. That basically means that it can be recreated should someone find that person notable and article-worthy. G4 does not apply in this case, but if anyone feels that it's not worth having an article, then WP:AFD is the place to take it. I'd consider this being acceptable for an article, but this stuff is not my strong suit and I could be wrong. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 17:09, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, AFD is what's being hinted at here. I'm giving the article's creator a bit of time to gather some refs before plunging ahead with an AFD though. Gurt Posh (talk) 08:03, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

About the deletion of Balkan Holidays

Could you please give a reason for the speedy deletion of Balkan Holidays, as it was completely rewritten, and was about the 46-year-old group of companies (including BH Air) and not just the London-based branch. The article of Virgin Holidays doesn't have more scientific or encyclopedic content than the one you have deleted. 83.244.229.226 (talk) 13:02, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

One of the administrators deleted it as it was judged not to be substantially different from the article that was deleted following the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Balkan Holidays. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 13:04, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Re Matt Jarvis (psychologist)

Hi, and many thanks for the help getting the page sorted out - I am a newbie to this. In answer to your question the reference to Jarvis text as course text is in the Social Science & Psychology handbook, listed on this page. There isn't a URL for the handbook itself, this is as close as you can get. I thought by calling the reference 'Social Science & Psychology Handbook I'd covered it. University course reading lists are normally password protected so it is hard to reference this to an easy-to-verify source. Thanks, Jon. (Jonsmythelawson (talk) 15:52, 22 July 2011 (UTC))

I'm uncomfortable deleting Seoul Foreign Language High School as a CSD G11. As a project, we've decided that articles on schools are exempt from G7. That doesn't mean they can't fail G11, but it does suggest that we ought to be especially careful when using other CSD criteria (to be honest, I'm not sure that conclusion follows, feel free to challenge me). On the merits, I see some evidence of puffery, but I'm not convinced it is so bad as to "Can we concentrate on settling whether the dab is warranted?". I'd prefer tagging and possibly AfD. I'll reiterate, I'm not totally sold on my own argument, so feel free to push back if you feel strongly, and we can find a venue to discuss. (Looks like you reached a similar conclusion even while I was writing this?)--SPhilbrickT 16:57, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Reason given, please remove he nomination for speedy deletion of Goal Busters F.C. article

This page should not be speedy deleted because... Goal Busters F.C. is REAL professional club established recently, in Sector-15, Faridabad. It has won against all the local clubs of the city (Faridabad) and started defeating other clubs of neigbouring cities as well. It has played about 36 matches, lost just 2 of them, that too based on penalties. The club, though recently established, has PROFESSIONAL KITS, is highly successful, has a huge fan base, highly popular and based on great team chemistry. Due to shortage of funds, the club does not have its own website, but has its own fan page on a popular Social networking website, which can be visited by clicking on the Club Home Page link... please visit the page, everyone visiting it, can confirm its a great football club! Thanks!

So please remove the nomination for speedy deletion as follows: Siddhantbatra (talk) 19:10, 22 July 2011 (UTC) siddhantbatra

Red Centre

Hello

The Red Centre aka Red Centre Way article was not aimed purely at promotion, because it is a recognised drive/region that has been further promoted by the local government in the Northern Territory. Like the Great Ocean Road in Victoria and the Alpine Way in New South Wales it is a destination, encompassing real places and locations. There is mention of the phrase "Red Centre" in other articles, whilst no actual page existed on the phrase, which I my aim was to create the page with content I own, then to link in with the other articles and images. Thank you Ausemade (talk) 08:53, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Red Centre certainly merits an article, but please stop linkspamming for your website: you've been linking to it in many articles. Gurt Posh (talk) 08:56, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Can you then reinstate the article and just remove the links. Thanks Ausemade (talk) 09:03, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

The content of the article (apart from the pile of ausemade links) was also rather WP:PROMO, but you can ask the deleting admin User:Fastily to reinstate it. Gurt Posh (talk) 09:09, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Good evening Ausemade (talk), and welcome to today's episode of the Gurt and Shirt Show :-) . Ausemade, I'd be more than pleased to help out. More than pleased to help out with this. --Shirt58 (talk) 09:54, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your input Shirt58. I did see that page, but it was spelt incorrectly and the information was not quite right. Anyway, I will see what User:Fastily does, before rewriting.

hi gurt, last week I've entered links to the official band biographies of the following bands: nightwish, dimmu borgir and they were deleted by you. I only got automated emails regarding this but don't understand why they were deleted. these were links to both band's official record company nuclear blast who get biographies directly from the bands or from their management so I assume these are highly relevant links to the band's entry on wikipedia. please let me know if I'm wrong with this assumption and if you could undo those deletions which would be highly appreciated.

if you agree, I'd like to continue to place links to the official band profiles on nuclear blast to all nuclear blast bands if they do not get deleted then. please let me know!

many thx!

Please have a read of WP:Conflict of interest and WP:LINKSPAM: the links you added were to sales pages at your company's website, accompanied by highly WP:PROMO blurbs on the bands. The templates you created consisted solely of one link to the corresponding product page. However, you're very welcome to write about any other subjects with which you don't have a commercial conflict of interest. Please post back if I can be of help with that. Lincolnshire County Council

Call me astute, but whilst spending your entire life deleting pages, you may not possess sufficient knowledge on other parts of the UK when it is required.

Do you know where Lincolnshire is?

Have you ever heard of Martin Hill, before today? - unlikely to be a yes.

Because I revoke your alterations does not mean I lack relevant knowledge, when I think you possess 0% knowledge on this subject. You do not know the first thing. Would a chimpanzee know as much? - please correct me if I am wrong.

Why not stick to the subjects you know something about? Your persistence oversteps your thoroughness. DinosaursLoveExistence (talk) 14:57, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Oh my, oh my, this is the most hilarious thing I have read in a long time. There's a small crowd gathered at my desk to see what made me nearly shoot tea out my nose.
Memo to self: first read new morning talk page messages, then drink tea. :-)
Now then, to answer what appears to be your real question. Please don't take this quite so personally. It's not a criticism of you, or of Mr. Hill (assuming that you are not him), or of Lincolnshire CC. It's a matter of Wikipedia's guidelines on notability. They often don't match up to our "real-world" expectations of what constitutes notability: articles on heads of major corporations, for example, often get deleted or merged into their company article, if they don't show notability outside of association with the company. I could be wrong about Mr. Hill, which is why we have the WP:AFD process here on Wikipedia: it's about reaching a consensus on matter of opinion, and in this case the existing guidelines are a bit unclear about notability in UK local government. Cheers! Gurt Posh (talk) 08:20, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Help!

Hi there!

I recently had my page Thomas fontaine tagged by you for notability and after reviewing the Wikipedia:Notability (people) guidelines I must agree with your tag. I do however now have the problem of deletion and unfortunately am unaware as to how this process works. I have read through the WP:deletion policy but still a little confused. Would you be able to help me with this at all? Thanks in advance Pereirab04 (talk) 01:33, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello, and thanks for the article. Yes it appears that he hasn't yet played a professional match, and so doesn't meet notability per WP:FOOTY yet. Would you like me to move the article to a WP:User subpage, so you can have it all ready to go when he does play this season? Gurt Posh (talk) 08:24, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
That would be fantastic if you could do that! TI'll update and complete it the second he does. Thanks heaps for the help! Pereirab04 (talk) 02:43, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
No worries! Moving a page is easy once you've done it the first time. Here's what I've done:
a) Went to Thomas Fontaine
b) Clicked on the "Move" tab, fifth from the left
c) Gave it the new title User:Pereirab04/Thomas Fontaine, and added a note in the "Reason" box about my discussion with you here
d) Clicked the "Move page" button. That's it, now you're done.
"Moving" a page is the same thing as renaming it. When you move a page, it will automatically leave behind a redirect to where you moved it. Redirects from article titles to user pages aren't allowed, so I've now tagged that redirect for deletion, and it will probably be deleted by the time you read this.
So there it is: if you get the spelling or spacing wrong in a name title (and that happens a lot with new articles), then to rename an article you simply move it.
Hope that's useful: you're welcome to ask back here if you have any more questions. Gurt Posh (talk) 06:55, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Very useful indeed! I'm still learning the ins and outs of wikipedia editing but your help has been most valuable. I'll keep this in mind, always keen to learn more! Many thanks. Pereirab04 (talk) 08:10, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi again Gurt,
I think there may be more more than meets the eye about this.

Hm, can't see anything sub-eye there, apart from the obvious WP:COI by the creator (who has now changed account names using proper process), but the original promo tone has been toned right down now. Yet your spidey sense is tingling? Gurt Posh (talk) 07:25, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm just wondering whether the Buckswood School is aware that there is similarly named educational institution in Tblisi. This is, of course, pure spidey-speculation on my spidey-part. Penrose Prozess page

Hello Gurt, I have just finished writing a new page, and it was already deleted. I have received your message warning me about it being a duplicate. I was trying to figure out a way to link it from the English version to my German version, but didn't any information. Would you know how to indicate a page being a translated version of another, so maybe I can add it to mine, which sadly was just deleted....thanks alot, MB MadameBruxelles (talk) 16:38, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Not to worry: we can easily re-create Penrose Prozess on the German Wikipedia. I'll ask the deleting administrator to undelete it to a WP:Subpage of your user page. You can then click "edit" on that temporary article, and copy its source to http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penrose_Prozess. Once that's done, we can link Penrose process to that new German article, using an Interlanguage link. Hope that all makes sense! Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 07:36, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Atlas THON

Hi Gurt Posh,

You recently requested that my article, Atlas THON, be examined for speedy deletion. I believe that this is erroneous, as the problem with the article, as claimed in the mark for speedy deletion, was that the article did not explain the significance or importance of the organization. The article I have written describes how Atlas THON has raised over $1 million in 6 years to help children with pediatric cancer, as a part of the annual Penn State Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. This seems to me to be quite significant, as the amount of money raised, coupled with the fact that it is raised by students in their free time, is quite astounding. Thanks for the inquiry, and let me know if you have any questions about the article. Mtk180 (talk) 09:49, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Mtk180

I'm sure it's a fine organization, and it's great to hear that they're raising money for such a good cause. But the article doesn't assert how it's notable: please have a read of WP:CLUB for more information on notability of clubs and similar groups. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 09:53, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
I have edited the page to include multiple independent sources that verify the notability of Atlas THON, including the Massachusetts General Hospital, The Daily Collegian, and Onward State. Also, I would consider recognition from the Massachusetts General Hospital as one of the" top 100 organizations fighting cancer" as national recognition. Please remove the speedy deletion tag if this is sufficient evidence for the notability of the organization. Mtk180 (talk) 16:54, 28 July 2011 (UTC)Mtk180
