    Mess I just did while editing on Friends (season 10)

    Hello kind helpers ! I wanted to add Danny DeVito (as Joe the Stripper, episode 11)) in the § "Guest Stars" of the article , but it seems that after my action the list overlapped on the text of "Recurring stars" .     If you click on the "History" tab at the top of the article you can then have the option to look at differences for each edit. From that you will see that you deleted {{col-end}} from the end of one section, so I've added it back in for you. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:41, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi,

    I am a director of a company. Would it be reasonable, or against policy, to post the below to Wiki? Given they are all factual statements, and its fairly basic, I hope it allowable? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

    No, you should not create or edit content about your company because you have a conflict of interest. Wikipedia is not a directory. Subjects merit a stand alone article when independent, reliable, third party sources have covered the subject in a non-trivial manner.     There is a basic principle of life here: if a place exists where you can advertise your business for free, that place is flooded with ads for bogus diet pills, male anatomy enhancement pills, female bust enlargement creams, etc., etc., and nobody reads it. If you see place that looks like it might allow you to advertise for free and it isn't flooded with spam ads, somebody is stopping the spammers and they will stop you too. The solution?     Are you referring to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Haagsche Zwaan? If so, it is as visible as it is supposed to be. It also would need considerable work before it is ready for mainspace. Drafts in the articles for creation space are not indexed by Google or other robots-compliant search engines. DES (talk) 15:59, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    If so, one of the reasons it is not visible, is that you did not submit it for review. However, before you do that, you need to show that it is "notable" in Wikipedia's terms, and has received "significant coverage, in reliable sources, that are independent of the subject." Currently the only reference is to the building's own web-site, which is clearly not independent.
    Without such coverage, your article will be rejected - for a basic explanation of these terms, please see WP:42 Arjayay (talk) 16:06, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    drop down lists

    there used to be a space in your preference where you could eliminate the drop down list when making a search. I see it's been eliminated. How do I get rid of the drop down list now?     @Mohpat: There's a discussion about this at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 121#AJAX suggestions now mandatory?. Apparently the solution is to edit Special:MyPage/common.css and add the following:

    If you go to Robert C. Fulford and look at the history tab you can see who made the change and what edit summary they left. In this case the edit summary just says "(Reverted 1 good faith edit by Rajivly using STiki (Mistake? Report it.))" but it does tell you who made the change and you could ask on that editor's talk page at User talk:Epicgenius. RJFJR (talk) 19:35, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    (edit conflict) It seems that it was reverted because you did not provide reliable sources for this change. Notice that there are two source citations after the original statement. These are books that I can't find right now, but they probably support the statement. If you have a source that says that these two medical practices are different, feel free to make the change again and add the source. (Referencing for beginners and introduction to referencing can help if you aren't sure how to add the source.)     First, you will need to go to the the image's page on Commons. Click the image, and there will be a box that reads "This is a file from the Wikimedia Commons. Information from its description page there is shown below." Then click "its description page". There you can edit the page to update the information.     Incorrect name for Madeline Island Museum

    The article titled Madeline Island Historical Museum, should be correctly titled Madeline Island Museum - see the museum's website for verification that this is the correct name. Google also had the incorrect name in their places search response and this has been requested to be updated too.     Template parameter syntax

    This isn't specifically related to anything on Wikipedia (it's actually Wikia, though that uses MediaWiki, so I figured it appropriate enough to ask here). I'm attempting to make a template that says something along the lines of "It has been suggested that this file be renamed to File:Example.jpg" where "to" only pops up if the parameter for the filename is defined (that is, if the template is invoked without that parameter, it would say "It has been suggested this file be renamed" rather than "It has been suggested this file be renamed to ").     The above works but the usual solution would be the simpler:
    It has been suggested this file be renamed{{#if:{{{1|}}}| to {{{1}}}}}.
    It would also be common that the user only gives the file name and the template adds the link formatting:
    It has been suggested this file be renamed{{#if:{{{1|}}}| to [[:File:{{{1}}}]]}}.
    If the file exists and the user adds the link formatting in the first option but forgets the colon before the file name then the file would be displayed instead of just linked. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:13, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Richard Charles Gould, American Shotokan Karate Federation (ASKF)., and David Gould

    which spawned of the Japanese Karate Association with Richard Gould as the director and founder after being stationed in Japan, after serving in the U.S. marine corp. in the Korean conflict. He learned Shotokan Karate-do in Japan reaching third dan (third degree black belt) and climbed his way up to a national and international recognition as a 9th dan (which is the highest rank while alive. 10th dan is only in death.

    The ASFK is a world renown instructor while his students formed the federation that produced countless world competitors. He is well known world wide as a senior instructor and is the second senior karate-do in the U.S. after one man who he trained with in the 50's.

    He is most noted as being one of the first American to bring Shotokan Karate to the Americas. Unlike many karateka, his linage and student carry linage back to Tokyo, Japan and Gichin Funakoshi, as Master Funakoshi's students became his instructors. The ASKF is a growing international force producing some of the best karateka in the world.

    The ASKF holds a true karate organization unlike most dojo's advertised. He is, also, respected in Japan as an experienced instructor.

    Hanshi Richard Gould's son, Richard David Gould - 5th dan, is a renown international competitor and sensei to many and was at one time a feared kumite expert(fighter)internationally and nationally. He is also a well known teacher of karate-do students and holds fame in his own right.

    The ASKF works closely with the Ryukyu Karate Research Society headed by Hanshi Patrick McCarthy in based in Australia as it does with countries in Europe and Asia.

    Many published books have noted Richard Gould, the ASKF, and the linage is published in books like Randy Hassel's Shotokan and its evolution.

    The ASKF is opposed to karate money groups such as the UKAI out of New Jersey and its members.

    Wikipedia:Requested articles is where you can request an article be written on a topic. However, I'm not finding much in the way of coverage in reliable sources that are independent of American Shotokan Karate Federation from which to summarize into a Wikipedia article on American Shotokan Karate Federation. There is some book information on the American Shotokan Karate Federation,[1] but some of that information is from books written by Richard C. Gould, so the source is not independent of the American Shotokan Karate Federation topic. I also am not finding much source material for an article on Richard Gould, whether for Richard Charles Gould or Richard David Gould. Richard Gould is too common of name to find information about a particular Richard Gould.     I thought that Wikipedia could make use of a screenshot of a fake police website intended to scare users into paying a fee, so upon encountering such a site, I grabbed a screenshot and uploaded it to Wikipedia.     You have uploaded it to English Wikipedia, but as it appears to be written in Finnish, it might be more use at Finnish Wikipedia, if they will accept it. But as you don't have permission from the copyright holder, it's probably not acceptable on any Wikipedia. There is no "correct licence" for an illegal copy.     Wrong Cincinnati head coach (Ed Jucker) listed for 1958-1959 season - it should be George Smith

    On the following wikipedia page

    1958–59 Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball team

    it lists Ed Jucker as the head basketball coach for Cincinnati Bearcats. On the wikipedia page

    Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball

    it shows George Smith as the head coach through the 1960 season. This is true. In fact Ed Jucker was not Cincinnati head coach until 1960.

    Please make the correction on the wikipedia page listed at the top.

    replacing current Mackinac College article

    The current article (Mackinac College) has one introductory sentence that is actually about Mackinac College. It is followed by 3 other categories of information: Pre-college, Post-college, and the college’s ‘MRA problem.’

    I am prepared to replace this wiki with three separate articles: --Mission Point (Mackinac Island) --Mackinac College (1966 – 1970) --Mackinac College (1971-1973)

    Unlike the current article, these three articles are each extensively researched with primary resources, online resources, and personal communications. These three articles encompass the information that is in the current article and much more.

    Hi Karin. The best idea would be to try to add this information to the main article, and then when it becomes too large to split it off into other articles at that point.     Not quite. As per WP:PRIMARY, published primary sources can be used with care, mostly for non-controversial facts. But "personal communications" are never acceptable as sources in Wikipedia articles, any more than "personal recollections" are. DES (talk) 00:49, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    There are quite a few Wiki articles that link to Mackinac College. I want these links to default to the Search Option page where it says 'The page "Mackinac College" does not exist'.     Without commenting on your proposed new articles, simply deleting the old page would almost always be inappropriate. At the very least that would break all the links pointing there. More likely you'd want to crease a wp:Disambiguation page or use hatnotes to allow users to find the other pages. If one of the articles is reasonably the primary meaning of the term, then it can get the primary name (although from your statement that would seem not to be the case).     How can I copy mathematical equation to external document editor?

    I was making notes and I wanted to copy Distance_(graph_theory)#Related_concepts. Unfortunately copy pasting it resulted in blank objects in place of equations (from Firefox 26 to LibreOffice Writer 4.0.1.2). Exporting to pdf and copy pasting from created file ended in even worse mess, equations were missing and bogus newlines were everywhere. Some time ago I was manually downloading equation images ( files like https://upload.wikimedia.org/math/a/a/1/aa1f80acca8417a5c530bc706ef7063e.png etc ) and placing in in .doc document but this is absurd.

    What is the proper method for doing this?

    I don't know if there's a recommended method. If I were doing it, here is what I would try.
    Check whether LibreOffice handles AMS-LaTeX. If it does, click the "Edit" link at the top of the Wikipedia paragraph you want to copy from, copy the stuff between the <math> tags, and paste it into LibreOffice. Maproom (talk) 09:41, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Adding a mini-icon for a flag onto a page.

    Hello. I would like assistance if possible in adding a mini-icon (like a 23x14 png file) to a Wikipedia page. The page is - One Day International#Teams with ODI status.

    The imagine I'd like to add is a flagicon for the East African Cricket Team. It's the only national team whose flag isn't shown on the page, but not the only union of several countries placed into a combined team (ie. West Indies for the Carribean and Ireland for both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland). The imagine flag I'd like assistance with placing onto this page is available here.     Unfortunately that image File:East And Central Africa Cricket Logo.jpg is copyrighted, and under the fair-use rules can only be used in restricted ways. It would not be possible to add it in the way you describe. Rojomoke (talk) 11:18, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    The error message on the Fette Fraktur page said "Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page, but the references will not show without a {{reflist}} template (see the help page)." In that message the words "help page" are in blue, showing that it is a link, in this case to Help:Cite errors/Cite error refs without references.     Moving house

    My question is I have moved house and changed address for my council tax but my ex-husband paid the council tax yet the credited money has moved with me instead of staying on the address, is there any way to put the credit back on instead of it following me to my new address, any advice would be great thank you

    Council tax is levied on residential property, not individuals, but the bill is sent to the named person in that property who is on record as taking responsibility for paying the tax. It is more than possible that a credit would therefore be transferred to that person's new account, should they move house within the authority.     Edits and NPOV

    I have a member that has totally gutted a page that I spent time on editing (I am not the original creator of the page). The information that they changed "could" be deemed accurate in some cases, but it is not in accordance of NPOV terms. I edited this information, kept all the edits, citations and footnotes of the person that changed the page, But I put the exact quotes for the edits that are biased from the cited source (the editor paraphrased sentences and did not take exact quotes).

    Now I look at the page and it has been reverted to the gutted page again. It did not even contain the accurate and cited references, from the exact same source no less, that I had added that would put this page in accordance of NPOV. I got a message that my edits do not follow NPOV. What should I do. This page as it stands now is not neutral in any way and biased. Any help would be appreciated.

    Your two edits were here and here. The second one was clearly problematical; you removed unfavorable material and added blatant advertising.
    In particular you replaced
    "ABC News identified the company as one that manufactures 'Adderall knockoffs'."
    with
    "ABC News identified the company as one that manufactures 'prescription -strength study aids'."
    Note the title of the ABC news article: "Adderall Knockoffs Are Unapproved, Potentially Dangerous, Experts Say".
    You also replaced
    "The companies products have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA for sale as medications in the United States."
    with
    "All of Gentech Pharmaceutical's products are Over-the-counter formulations that are regulated by the FDA, Regulation of food and dietary supplements by the U.S Food and Drug Administration."
    when the same ABC news article clearly stated

    I can't find a record of the deletion discussion, but "not enough google links" is not a grounds for deleting a page. What is grounds for deleting a page is if there are not enough reliable sources, independent of the subject which have written about the subject. If two books have been issued by reliable publishers which discuss the series, that might establish notability. But if, as I suspect you mean, there have been books published from the same source as the series, then they do absolutely nothing to establish notability.     Adding image inside Taxobox

    I'm trying to insert a picture into the Taxobox of an article I am expanding. The picture has been uploaded and accepted by Wiki Commons. There was a poor picture there and I've used the same format as the original author, plus every combination Wiki gives me and nothing appears.     Hey Mct5548. Are you trying to add File:Laemophloeus germaini Montage.jpg to Laemophloeidae? If so I have previewed it and it works fine. I can think of three things that might be causing your issue. First, in some preformatted templates, the template suppliesthe image markup so it will break the image display if you append "file:" or "image:" before the file's name. Second, some people try to type out a file's name rather than copying and pasting it and any change in capitalization or spelling will not work. Third, and I would expect most likely, this is a page caching issue--even though you are correctly placing the image markup and previewing, you are being shown the existing version--you didn't say but is what's happening that when you preview you are seeing the old image, i.e., no change? If so and you deem that the image should be replaced with the one you uploaded, go ahead and replace it.     On this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impro-Visor there are notations of Unknown Parameters in the References section. There are 5 references. I would like to fix those problems, but when I open the Edit, there are no references listed. I don't understand how those references are even being displayed currently.
