Siddipet (For more Information of siddipet Visit website http://www.manasiddipet.info and for siddipet info Andriod App: click here to download http://www.manasiddipet.info/r/) is a town and selection grade Municipality in Medak district of Telangana State, India, with a population of 61,901.[1] It is one of the important town in Medak district and is 104 kilometres (65 mi) away from the state capital, Hyderabad, and 92 kilometres (57 mi) away from Secunderabad.

Geography

Siddipet is located at 18°06′N 78°51′E / 18.1°N 78.85°E / 18.1; 78.85.[2] It has an average elevation of 675 metres (2,215 ft). Komati Cheruvu, Narsapur Cheruvu and the Yerra Cheruvu are the major lakes nearby Siddipet.

Demographics

According to the Indian census of 2001,[1] Siddipet had a population of 61,809. As per 2011 census,.[1] The population of males constitute 50% and females 50%. Siddipet has an average literacy rate of 81%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: The male literacy rate is 89.84% and female literacy is 69.44%. In Siddipet, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. The municipality consists 32 wards/divisions.

There is a need for forming Siddipet as a district because it is far away from the present district headquarters Sangareddy . It has all resources to exist as a new district.

District name Medak, district headquarters Sangareddy, and big town in district is Siddipet. The new and first Chief Minister of Telangana State Mr. K Chandrasekhar Rao born in Chintamadaka village near to Siddipet taluk.

Education

Siddipet is the education hub in Medak district. The Government Degree College is the second biggest college in the Telangana state. The degree college campus also consists Osmania University's Post Graduate College that offers courses including MCJ (Master of Communication and Journalism), MA (English), MA (Economics), MSc (Organic Chemistry), MBA and MCA. However, the PG College is going to withdraw MCA course from the academic year 2014-15. According to the policy decision, department of MCJ ( Master of Communication and Journalism) has been shifted to Kotilingala campus, half-a-kilometer away from the PG college from August 1, 2014. Ending Osmania University MCJ department's monopoly over MCJ course, local MLA Tanneru Harish Rao Garu had introduced the MCJ course in the PG College in 2013 after a brief fight with the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state government. Siddipet is also having a Govt. Degree College for Women. The town has 3 engineering colleges, namely Indur Institute of Engineering and Technology, SSR Engineering College and Medak College of Engineering. Besides, three B.Ed. colleges, Telangana College of Education in Duddeda, Islamia B.Ed College on Mustabad road and Princeton College of Education in Ponnala. The pharmacy college Sri Krupa Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences ( www.srikrupaips.com )has been established near Duddeda village.6 Vocational colleges are there PRAGATHI VOC JR COLLEGE, Near Bridge - Hyderabad Road,Sri Chaitanya Voc Jr College, GNR Voc Jr college, Gnanasarawathi voc Jr college, Newgeneration voc Jr college, Govt Boys voc Jr college, Govt Girls Voc Jr college.The town has first English medium school about 45 years ago. St. John's high school near Madhina function hall (www.stjohnssiddipet.com) [Vidyaniketan high school and Sharadanikentan high school are also imparting education in English instruction.

Transport

Road

Since Siddipet is near to Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Warangal. It is well connected by roadways and is located on Rajiv Rahadari (SH-1) which passes from Hyderabad to Mancherial. It is also connected by SH-16 from Suryapet to Ramayampet via Jangaon. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation ply public transport buses to major destinations from Siddipet are Hyderabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Jangaon, Godavarikhani, Adilabad, Mancherial, Bodhan, Vijayawada, Guntur, Narsapuram, Tirupati, Medak, Zaheerabad, Sangareddy, Jagitial, Manthony, Suryapet, Yadagirigutta, Basara, Metpally, Dharmapuri, Kaleshwaram, Vemulawada, Asifabad, Kamareddy, Mumbai, Pune, Sholapur, Chandrapur, Gondia, Aheri, Gadchiroli, Bangalore and Bidar.

Siddipet has old and new bus stations, which offer ordinary and super fast bus transport services. The bus depot ply buses in 6 mandals with a total fleet of 103 buses. The buses ply in Siddipet, Mirdoddi, Togutta, Kondapaka, Chinna Kodur, Nangnoor mandals. The depot also operates 2 interstate bus services to Mumbai and Gondhya.

Rail

Nearest railway stations are Jangaon which is 55 km away, Warangal, 80 km far and Secunderabad, 85 km. There has been a proposal to lay a railway line connecting Hyderabad and Karimnagar via Siddipet but it has yet to be implemented. In 2010-11 Railway Budget, a plan was announced to survey for this proposed railway line. If this track is completed, it reduces the distance between Hyderabad and Delhi by 60–70 km.

A new line from Akkanapet to Siddipet was proposed to conduct survey in Railway Budget 2013.

And there is also a plan to construct a new line from Siddipet to Kazipet railway junction. And one other line from kothapalli to manoharabad via vemulavada,siricilla,SIDDIPET,gajwel was sanctioned in november 2014..

Air

Nearest Airports are Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, which is 125 km away and Warangal Airport, 85 km away.

Industries

Siddipet is famous for rice mills. The town is surrounded by more than 120 rice mills. Arch Pharmaceuticals, a pharma industry, is situated near Mittapally, Siddipet. There is also a textile mill in Siddipet. This town has lots of poultry(Layer) farms, which in terms stood as number 1 in India. Almost 3 million eggs would be collected from all the farms every day. There are many fried pulses industries, like Girija Dall Mill, Raghavendra Industry, and has also Alankrutha handloom industry. There are also famous super markets like Vaishnavi Super Market,More super market and Gattu Krishna Murthy jewellers. There are also many poultry & Egg traders like Lateef poultry's, Royal egg traders and many more

Places of Religious Worship

Temples

There are more than 50 temples in the town. Sri Bhogeswara Swamy and Sarabheswara Swamy temples are the oldest temples in the town. Many people believe that there is a tunnel between these two temples. Another beautiful temple is Siva temple on Medak cross road. It is also known as Kotilingala Gudi, which was founded by Sadguru Sree Madanananda Saraswatee Swami Garu with the financial aid of Thadkamadla Mallaiah Gupta family. Sri Seetha Ramaswamy temple is another old temple.

Other temples include Sri Venkateswara Swamy Gudi, Gadi Maisamma, Borra Hanumannthudu, Ganesh Nagar Hanumannthudu, Naga Devatha, Sri Sathya Narayana Swamy, Rama Raju Ragichettu Hanumannthudu, Sri Neelakanteswara Swamy, Sri Shiridi Sai Baba, Gita Bavan, Panchamukhi Hanumannthudu, Ayyappa Swamy, Yellamma, Markandeya Swamy, Jai Santhoshi Mata, Bangaru Maisamma,Shankar Nagar Siva temple,Sri Sathya Sai Baba Prashanthi Nilayam, Brahamam gari temple at Kanchari bazar, Dikonda Maisama near Magistrate court and Pancha Mukhi Hanuman temple.

One of the very interesting things that you find in Siddipet is that Hanuman temple across the main street.

The famous Komuravelli Mallikarjuna Swamy(komuravelli mallana) temple is 25 k.m.away from Siddipet and Ananthasagar Saraswathi Kshetram is 20 k.m. far from the town.

Mosques

Jama Masjid is a very old mosque located near Lal Kaman. Makkah Masjid is located at Charwadan Street and Sufia Masjid is located at Khaderpura.

Churches

The Baptist church (Calvary Grace Baptist Church) was founded nearly 25 years ago in Sreenagar colony.

Tourist spots

Siddipet is also known for its historical monuments like Lal Kaman and Burj. The term Lal Kaman is originated from red color as it was built with red stone. The Lal Kaman was recently renovated to conserve its antiquity. The locals believe that there were 72 towers (buruju) in and around the city but all of them were disappeared due to negligence. A single Burj is still found in the town.

Health Care

A Government hospital provides health services to the patients at free of cost. Private hospitals are also offering health services.

Entertainment and food

Siddipet has four 70mm cinema theaters include Seeta Ramanjaneya,Srinivasa,Balaji,Venkateshwara talkies which exhibit recently released Telugu and Hindi movies.

Siddipet is famous for dhabas along the way to Karimnagar in Ponnala village and suburbs of Siddipet. The town is known for Sarva pindi ,Kachori's and Prem Nagar's (masala poori).

There is Mahatma Gandhi Park, Nehru Park and Chaman.

Politics

Siddipet is an Assembly constituency in Telangana state. Sri Guruva Reddy was the first MLA of Siddipet. Very well known politician in national politics from Siddipet is Sri.K.Chandrasekhar Rao (popularly known as KCR), founder of Telangana Rastra Samithi and Present Chief Minister of Telangana state .KCR has performed well in the elections from this constituency since 1983. He first contested as a TDP candidate and lost narrowly to the Congress candidate. However, he resurrected from the electoral debacle and never lost any election since afterwards. During 2004 elections, he defeated his rival with nearly 40 per cent votes. The famous politicians in Telangana state, Sri. T.Harish Rao ( TRS) and Sri.Farooq Hussian (Congress) hail from Siddipet. 2011 - Farooq Hussain (Congress MLC)

History

Siddipet town was named after an emperor called Nawab Siddique, Who ruled the town.
