Adding a new category?
WP currently has an Age Controversies category "for people for whom there are, or have been disagreements and discrepancies regarding dates of birth and death." Would it be worthwhile to add a category called Birthplace Controversies for biographies of those whose country of birth is/was disputed? e.g. Peter Wyngarde, Merle Oberon, Carlos Gardel, etc. (I don't think such a category currently exists.) --Muzilon (talk) 03:58, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Sounds good to me, except don't capitalize "controversies". It would also be worthwhile to create Category:Birthplace or Category:Birthplaces and make your creation a subcategory of that and either Category:Controversies or Category:Historical controversies. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:04, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- P.S. The way to link to categories without adding the page to the category is to add a colon to the beginning, as I have demonstrated. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:06, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I haven't created a Category before, so thought I'd ask here in the hope that a more experienced editor could do it (assuming others agreed it was a good idea in the first place!)--Muzilon (talk) 04:13, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- You should really try it yourself. It's pretty easy. Just type "Category:Birthplace controversies" in the search box. You'll get the message "You may create the page 'Category:Birthplace controversies'". Just click on the redlink. After that, it's almost the same as an article (you have created an article before, right?). You can add categories and an optional sentence or two explaining your inclusion criteria and press the Publish page button. Presto! You've given birth to a brand spanking new category, and it didn't take nine months. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:31, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hmmm. I'd change the name of the category to something like "People whose birthplace is disputed", as it will most likely be populated by people rather than controversy articles. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:35, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- I can envisage concerns being raised about "is disputed" vs. "was disputed". For instance, it's now universally accepted that Merle Oberon (deceased) was born in India (not Australia), whereas there is still ongoing debate about BLPs like Amanda Lear.--Muzilon (talk) 04:59, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- "is or was" then. Clarityfiend (talk) 05:01, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Since you are unwilling to proceed, I'll go ahead and create Category:People whose birthplace is disputed. After further consideration, I now feel that "was" should be a separate category. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:00, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Clarityfiend: My two cents: I think I see your point, but... How long after the last public voice on topic should we move a corresponding article from the 'is disputed' category to 'was disputed'? If the topic is ever raised again, should we move an article back to the 'is' category? --CiaPan (talk) 07:20, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- That is a difficulty, isn't it? Still, Chester A. Arthur pretty firmly belongs in the "was" column, not in the "is", so I'd hate to lose the distinction. Clarityfiend (talk) 07:38, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

That was one of the reasons I suggested the category name should be Birthplace controversies. As with Age controversies, it avoids the "is/was" problem. Carlos Gardel is another example. It looks like the English-language Wikipedia is solidly on the side of France as his birthplace, whereas the Spanish-language Wikipedia is still giving equal weight to France and Uruguay.--Muzilon (talk) 10:49, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- Addenda: predictably, there was an argument when this category was added to Barack Obama. I have started a discussion about renaming the category at CfD.--Muzilon (talk) 03:10, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank You G A Ferrari// — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabriel Adrian. Ferrari (talk • contribs) 04:49, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello Gabriel, I've listed the responses to your queries:
"how do I make additions?"
: See Wikipedia:Tutorial/Editing and Wikipedia:FAQ/Editing"how do I...write a new article?"
: See Wikipedia:Your first article"Is the information from the Original Scrolls and the multitude of bibles translations accepted ?"
: As any material or article being added to Wikipedia requires to be verified necessarily by reliable sources, the answer to your question depends upon the context in which you'll use the information. On the face of it, the sources you mention seem to be primary, and should be broadly avoided; and if used, then only with absolute discretion. See WP:PRIMARY for more details."Is the revelation from Our Creator Holy Spirit which can be proved in real existent fact accepted ?"
: Well, this seems like original research, which Wikipedia articles and material should not be based upon. See Wikipedia:No original research for more information on this.
- If you have further queries, feel free to ask here. Warmly, Lourdes 05:27, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Autoconfirmed, yet not?
I replaced a category in John Cabot, but got this request to "Re-review this revision". Bug? Clarityfiend (talk) 06:45, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Maybe because you're a pc reviewer and the page is under pc protection, that you were suggested to review the revision. Otherwise, I don't know but the software didn't ask me to review the revision when I added the same change; I am not a reviewer. This is just a blind guess; someone else may have a better answer. Problems editing table
I want to edit the list of Jean Sibelius' compositions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_compositions_by_Jean_Sibelius) by adding works that are missing. I want to use Live Editor, as I find source editing too complicated. But it seems I'm doing something wrong - I select the top row, click on the left arrow and then I select 'Insert below'. After inserting the information into the table, everything looks fine when I preview, but after publishing my changes, the table is somehow re-formatted so that the line below the one I just added is merged with that line. What am I doing wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eliasnoreland (talk • contribs) 11:17, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- It's not a table, it's a collection of templates inside a containing template. Each row is a separate entry of the {{Classical composition row}} template. Each new entry requires a new template to be inserted. If you look at the code, what is actually happening will be clearer than my explanation. - X201 (talk) 11:28, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Eliasnoreland: The above means List of compositions by Jean Sibelius#List of compositions is not suited for VisualEditor. You can use the source editor and follow the existing format. If you want to insert a new row then I suggest to start by copying the template code which generates one of the existing rows. Then you can just change the parameters. - Hey Serial, how are you doing? I'm not quite clear about your query. If you know the name of the bot, and if the bot main page does not have enough information about its master, then you can visit Category:Approved Wikipedia bot requests for approval and search out the bot's original approval page for more information. - Users can specify their username when they run the bot, which will then appear in the edit summary. (This feature was re-enabled this week; it will be lacking from older edit summaries.) Shy users can choose not to do so (in which case it will display "activated by a user") or to specify someone else's username (though the bot does check that the username is a valid user before re-printing it). Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 13:24, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks Martin While I love your reference to "shy users" :D ... I wanted to ask whether it was possible to do away with the choice to avoid inputting one's user name or in fact placing someone else's name. As much as I appreciate the option, I would hope we would get to know who activated the bot for any edit, given the general philosophy of transparency on Wikipedia. Do you think this could be pragmatically achieved? Thanks, Lourdes 17:38, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of an API that allows third parties to obtain and validate a user's Wikipedia credentials. If you have a specific proposal for how this might achieved, then we can look into how it might be implemented in the context of the bot. Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 07:19, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- Aside of https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?format=json&action=query&meta=userinfo , can you not use an OAuth-authorized request to Special:OAuth/identify? I guess that should return the username as a signed JSON token. Lourdes 09:06, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- (Courtesy ping to Martin. Lourdes 09:36, 26 August 2018 (UTC))
- A couple of the move to commons scripts do that, so the user's username ends up as the uploader on commons. See Wikipedia:Move_to_commons#Tools for those that use OAuth. Ronhjones (Talk) 12:50, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

- Hello Noble. Such lists are usually confined to subjects who are "notable" in the special sense used by Wikipedia, which means there either is already, or plausibly could be, a free-standing Wikipedia article about them.
- In this (your) case, Noble, this means that an actual or potential article would have to meet the requirements of Wikipedia:ENTERTAINER, and be based on multiple extended decriptions of you published in Reliable sources such as (though not limited to) academic or professional journals, or reputable magazines or newspapers. Mere inclusions in cast lists, or passing mentions in reviews, for example, are insufficient to confirm "notability" even though they may be sufficient to corroborate specific facts. Every single fact mentioned needs to be referenced by an in-line citation to a reliable source.
- I myself am not sufficiently expert in this field to judge whether or not you are likely to be "notable" in this sense, and since, like all Wikipedia editors, I am a spare-time volunteer working only on what I choose, I'm not going to undertake an attempt at an article about you, but with any luck someone else will be interested in doing so.
- Please note, however, that you yourself (or anyone directly associated with you), should not do so, because of our policies explained in Wikipedia:Autobiography, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and Wikipedia:Paid. Such an article would also have to adhere to Wikipedia:NPOV, avoid any hint of promotional or subjective description (except in direct quotes) as per Wikipedia:Promo, could contain anything reported in reliable sources that might not be to your credit, and would in no way be under your control. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.121.162.183 (talk) 05:21, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
Following up on a page I created
I created a page for DexYP and it was rejected twice. I made the requested changes to the page and resubmitted it on June 28 and it hasn't been reject, but it also hasn't gone live. I am trying to check the status. Here's the url https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:DexYP — Preceding unsigned comment added by James00011 (talk • contribs) 16:50, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Draft:DexYP is once more in the queue for review. If it is still in its current state when it gets reviewed, it will certainly be rejected. Some faults are:
- It uses ™ and ® symbols, against Wikipedia policy.
- It contains many direct external links. These are not permitted in the body of Wikipedia articles.
- It cites no references. Several references to reliable independent published sources which discuss the company will be needed, to establish that it is notable. This is the most serious problem, and may be the hardest to address. I recommend that you read Help:Referencing for beginners.
- The section headers are not correctly formatted. Ok, I've fixed that for you. Maproom (talk) 17:58, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, James0001. Unfortunately you have made the classic beginner's mistake of writing from what you know. Wikipedia does not care what you know (or what I know, or what any random person on the Internet knows). It only cares what reliable sources, mostly ones independent of the subject, have said about the subject. Which independent reliable published source says that "[i]n the 2000s, the company began offering digital search marketing services"? If there is one, cite it. If there isn't one, remove the claim. Which independent reliable published source has descrbied Thryv as the company's "flagship" offering? No Wikipedia article should ever use such evaluative language in Wikipedia's voice, but only when quoting a reliable published source.
- Does this help to see why the draft has twice been declined as "reads like an advertisement"? --ColinFine (talk) 21:06, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
- James0001 If you have a conflict of interest you must declare it. If you work directly or indirectly for an organisation, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. If you are paid directly or indirectly by the organisation you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:James0001. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=James0001|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. - Dex Media (DexYP before it was DexYP) is already on the site. We should rename it, and add the recent history to that article. I'll take a look and see what I can do. In the future, if you have a COI - put in an edit request on the talk page. Here's info on how to do that: Wikipedia:Edit requests. BTW - there's also a Dex One and Dex Media (Dex One). It's going to take some merging and sorting to fix this, but we don't need another article. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 22:25, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

When you click onto the link for bassist Keith Christopher, it takes you to a link about an actor Keith Christopher, who died in 1998. That is NOT the same Keith Christopher as the current bass guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyd, who joined the band last year (2017).
You may want to correct this.

- By erdo can, apart from what S Philbrick says, you need to get ipblock exempt status on the English Wikipedia separately for your VPN to work here (because despite your global ipblock exempt status, the English Wikipedia can still block – and would have effectively – your VPN addresses). I know this is a Catch 22 situation (how can you apply for ip block exempt status on the English Wikipedia if you can't edit here?), but that's the conclusion that was reached the last time another poster from another country that had blocked Wikipedia came here. - Sphilbrick, how are you doing? While I also was wondering about the editor editing the English Wikipedia, I realized that it's quite possible that the editor might have moved out of Turkey temporarily and may have obtained access to editing Wikipedia. Anyway, hope all is fine with you. Warmly, Lourdes 11:59, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

- It's an unfortunately ambiguous name - it's not a global exemption, but an exemption from global blocks (and Tor blocks which are usually global), and Lourdes is right that we'll probably have locally blocked the IPs. Anyway, due to the particular circumstances, this user now has a local IPBE. -- zzuuzz (talk) 13:06, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Is my submission 'important' enough for a wiki?
Hello! My name is Chase, and I was interested in making a wiki for my original character, Kaos. He's quite popular on the Marvel Amino, and if you search up his real name (Ausar Villahus) he even shows up on Google! I was still confused if it would be considered acceptable though, because only around 200+ people have given him a 'like' on the app. This is still considered a lot though in my mind because he happens to be the highest liked OC on the amino. If its possible he's important enough to be accepted to have a wiki made for him (by me of course) please let me know and I'll start right away! Click here to see: Kaos on Marvel Amino
Note: The biggest reason I want to do this is because its my dream to have Marvel see this character and maybe accept him to be part of their universe!
Thanks so much again! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chasedreid (talk • contribs) 04:19, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello @Chasedreid: Unfortunately, Wikipedia only accepts articles on subjects that are covered in reliable, independent sources as per our notability guideline. Marvel Amino doesn't count, because it's a user-generated source. However, we have many articles on Marvel characters which you might be interested in contributing to! Thanks for understanding. - Kjhfcbkk: you write "without source". But the section Azerbaijani language#North vs. South Azerbaijani cites 14 sources. Maproom (talk) 07:36, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
Since the article looked to be well sourced I reverted the edit. The lead where Kjhfcbkk's editing took place doesn't necessarily have to be sourced, even though it had one, as it is a general introduction to the subject. The rest of the article appeared to have adequate citations. So the comment about it not being sourced didn't look right to me, so took it to be vandalism. Jackfork (talk) 04:14, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

- @Viking6767: (edit conflict) Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. Your draft is at Draft:Kata Farm and is still awaiting review. If you were using a search engine like Google to search for it, you would not find it as draft pages are not indexed by search engines. Quickly looking at your draft, it probably needs some work in order to be accepted, as the draft primarily relies on a single source(with a second used a couple times); which is not an indication of significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. 331dot (talk) 09:38, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

How to find all templates with specific string as part of parameter?
I was editing the page Pyongyang International Airport and see the coordinate template in the article used to say {{coord|39|13|26|N|125|40|12|E|region:NK|display=inline,title}}. NK is not a correct region for North Korea and KP should be the correct one so I changed that. But how can I search among all articles with Template:coord and find out which of them still have region:NK as label? Note that because of the structure of the template, region:XX might only be part of instead of being the entire string for the template when other similar kind of descriptions also applies. Lists with show / hide tables -- edit ?s
Hello and thanks -- The List of third party performances in United States elections is rich in information about elections, with tables organized as hide / show options. As presently formatted, the page shows a long column of "[show]" with blank captions. I looked at editing but the source code has various complications that I could not easily resolve at mw:Manual:Collapsible elements. When I switched to Visual editor from the Source editor, naively hoping for clarity, alas the Visual editor shows a caption for each hidden table.
Any technical (how to) advice appreciated. I've seen many hide / show entries with simple captions, but the inner workings varies. GeeBee60 (talk) 15:45, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi GeeBee60, take a look at this section of the article now - is this what you mean? I added the captions in this edit, and I can do it to the rest of the page as well. Previously the tables weren't set to have any kind of caption, but I'm not sure why it looks different when using the visual editor.
- As for the technical explanation (speaking in source editing terms here), adding
|+ ''Caption here''
to the beginning of a table will add a caption that is visible even when the table is hidden. For this article, previously, the header of the table that contained the text "Notable Third Party Gubernatorial Performances," was a normal table row that was spanned across multiple columns, rather than an actual caption, making the header disappear when the table is hidden. Tables are quite difficult to edit when using the visual editor, particularly with more advanced coding such as this. Let me know if you have any more questions about this. Cheers,--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 18:54, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- I went ahead and did it for the whole article. You might want to check it, though, to make sure that's what you want.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 21:12, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

NETV
Hello there, I 've tried to edit - change the current information about the NETV - I own the trademark and I would like to use it! I edited the page twice and you cancelled it!
please put it right! thank you Simone
NeTV™ Networks, LLC — Preceding unsigned comment added by Netv (talk • contribs) 14:45, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Netv: You have been blocked due to your username. First of all, you have a conflict of interest, meaning that you should not edit the article directly - if you have constructive changes you wish to be made, you may use the {{request edit}} template on the article's talk page. There is no reason for us not to use your trademark to refer to your company in an encyclopedic article. You do not own the article, and removing the content found at NETV is considered disruptive. Thank you. LittlePuppers (talk) 15:30, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- Furthermore, Netv, you have repeatedly edited a page about a completely different organisation in a different country. If your company is notable (in Wikipedia's special sense of the word) then we could have an article about it. (It would not be your article, and you would be discouraged from editing it). This would be completely separate from an existing article about another organisation which happens to have the same name. --ColinFine (talk) 15:37, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Tried to create account
My account MartyGMon would not except the password, but seemed to create the account. Got a temp password by email, but that would not work. Very frustrating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.253.23.132 (talk) 15:59, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- The account was created, that much can be seen from the logs, but I’m afraid it’s more or less impossible for us normal users to determine with any certainty why your password might not be working. I’d try that temp one again, and if it still doesn’t work request another one. If I recall those temp passwords are time-specific, you have to use them right away. Sorry we can’t be of more help but we can’t see the password interface and obviously you should never be posting details of your password, so there’s only so much we can do from here. - Are you trying to log in to the English Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:UserLogin. New users sometimes confuse us with unrelated wikis and think they can log in at Wikia or elsewhere. Usernames are case sensitive (except the first character) but you wrote MartyGMon correctly here. How to edit my article's title and opening paragraphs
With Nick Moyes's kind help I have developed my article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patients_and_public_involvement_(PPI).
Around the New Year I asked Nick how to change the title by deleting the first two words and changing the PPI to PI (as the field's name has changed); I would also like to minorly edit the opening text (before the Contents box) but it shows no "edit" hotspot.
I'd much appreciate help in either or both regards, please!
Thanks in advance - Eric Deeson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eric Deeson (talk • contribs) 16:22, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- Eric Deeson: it's unclear what the article is meant to be about. The opening sentence says "Public involvement, or PI, is a UK National Health Service initiative"; but most of the body of the article, and most of the sources cited, are about "public involvement" in its everyday sense. You should decide which topic is to be the subject of the article, and remove content related to the other topic, before you request a name change. Maproom (talk) 17:28, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Why has the archiving here stopped?
At Talk:Pashtuns. Thanks. Doug Weller talk 17:59, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Doug Weller: It looks like the page was moved which confused the bot - I've changed the article to the correct name in the config, which should (hopefully) fix it - I'll check back in a little while to see if it's been archived. I'm not sure how often the bot runs. LittlePuppers (talk) 18:43, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Doug Weller: Another cause of problems might be several broken or manually created user signatures in old posts, which could prevent these specific threads from getting archived. But it's probably best to wait a few days to see the effect of LittlePuppers' fix first. Atleast some threads should get archived now, when the bot is able to work with the changed parameters. GermanJoe (talk) 19:47, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- Looking at the bot's edit history, it should be in 4-9 hours (it runs every 12, and appears to take several to finish). LittlePuppers (talk) 19:59, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

A little guide on analysing Wikipedia text locally
I am trying to create a database for word usages in sentences. So, at first I went to the dump page, and downloaded the XML file. It was very large (14 GB compressed), but I managed to open the first few hundreds megabytes of it and take a look at it. It was not that difficult to understand by eyes, but with all the special marks etc, extracting a plain, human-readable sentences (and then I will extracts words from them to create maps) would take me a lot of coding.
So, I thought I could use existing code to save time. There was a .NET project (I prefer .NET/C#), but its Git page showed that it is an SQL dump parser. And I am not sure where I can download the equivalent SQL dump for the XML I had downloaded. I do not need pictures, history, or other meta data; I just need the article text (including the title, categories). Could you tell me which data file is the best for my scenario, and where I can download it? Sin Jeong-hun (talk) 19:32, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Sin Jeong-hun: I urge you to try checking at this location:data dumps
- In particular, try contacting Ariel Glenn, whose contact information is on that page, and who knows a lot about dumps and should be able to help you.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:22, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Writing a wiki about a public figure
Hello, last year one of Wikipedia team deleted an entire wiki page entry I created for an artist that I represent. Please advise how to create the same page again without any cancellation from Wikipedia admin team. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bilalrahal (talk • contribs) 21:14, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I have to ask you to read Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest, which, in a nutshell, will tell you that you shouldn't do that.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:18, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Bilalrahal: (edit conflict) I assume you created it under a different username, as you have made no edits(other than this discussion) with this account so I can't locate the page you are discussing(its name would be helpful). You need to read and comply with WP:COI and WP:PAID before you do anything else. (the latter is mandatory for paid editors like yourself) The best thing would be for you to not attempt to create a page about your client, as Wikipedia is not intended as a means of publicity or promotion. If this artist is sufficiently notable, someone independent of them will likely take note of them and create an article. 331dot (talk) 21:23, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

I have stuffed up infobox. Sorry175.32.106.109 (talk) 00:01, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, I have restored the original article version. When your edits break the article's formatting by accident (happens to all of us), please revert the edit before asking for help. Could you be more specific and describe what kind of information you tried to add please? Or were you trying to link a new image? With a few more details it's easier to help you with the problem. GermanJoe (talk) 00:19, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
I have failed to correctly add a file in the "Family and Royal connections" section of this page. Please fix if you are able and please just place the name of Sophie, Countess of Wessex as the only words under the file if you are able. Sorry. 175.32.106.109 (talk) 10:07, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- Fixed As has been mentioned to you previously, there is a pre-formatted link at the commons page for use of the file on Wikipedia. Copy and paste that into the Wiki article. Further, as has also been asked of you before, please do not start multiple threads with the same heading. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 10:40, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
Help with "noindex" tag for article M. H. Krishna
Hi, I recently created a page on a personality who passed away in 1947. It is of M. H. Krishna - the eminent Indian historian, archaeologist and Epigraphist. I have sufficed enough references and bibliography links. Sadly, there is a noindex html attribute which prevents leading search engines from picking up this page. Can someone please remove this tag..? This historian needs to be read by Indian youngsters today for his vast corpus of academic work. I have no personal gain in doing this nor I am related to the personality. Please advice. Julie Bishop MP (Australian politician)
Julie Bishop (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Someone has ceased her term as Minister for Foreign Affairs. This is wrong. All she has announced today is that she is gong to the backbench. She has not resigned and is still the Minister for Foreign Affairs until that appointment is determined by the Australian Governor-General. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.152.108.110 (talk) 04:59, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- FWIW, the title of the current BBC website report on this is "Julie Bishop resigns as Australia's Foreign Minister." The link is here. Whether under the Australian constitution she is de jure still in the post until a successor is appointed, or not, is outside my knowledge, but by de facto everyday understanding, she clearly is not. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.121.162.183 (talk) 06:44, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- Technically she may still be Minister for Foreign Affairs until the Gov-Gen says she isn't, but I'd be pretty certain she won't be doing much Foreign Ministering in the interim. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation, one of the best sources on such matters, says "Former deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop has quit her job as minister for foreign affairs" That's good enough for me. New page creation for Vijay Babu Sreedharan - edit 1
He is a well known personality who doesnt want to come to forefront but as his fb viewership croosed 1 lac/day, fb has contacted him and was asked to create a wikipedia page so that his account will not be deactivated. As i m new to wikipedia as an editor kindly guide me on how to get through it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vijay Babu Sreedharan (talk • contribs) 11:39, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Vijay Babu Sreedharan: I am assuming you are talking about yourself; if you are not Vijay, you will need to change your username at WP:CHU. You really should not create an article about yourself, please see WP:AUTO. If you meet the notability criteria for an article at WP:BIO, someone independent of you will eventually create an article about you. Wikipedia has no interest in your online presence or Facebook verification. In terms of notability, it doesn't matter if you have 10 viewers a day, a thousand viewers a day, or ten million viewers a day; if no independent reliable sources write about you, you would not merit an article on Wikipedia. 331dot (talk) 11:44, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- ... and Google doesn't seem to know about you under that exact name, or at least returns only your request here when I search. I suggest that you go back to Facebook. Dbfirs 15:55, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
reference numbers
Can anyone tell me why reference numbers appear in the text within square brackets in English (and also in German), but without square brackets in French (and also in Spanish)
Am I missing something ?
Fuhndhu (talk) 18:32, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Fuhndhu: Each language version of Wikipedia is pretty much independent (with the exception of a few certain very serious things that would potentially threaten the Wikimedia Foundation itself). The communities at Fr.Wikipedia and Es.Wikipedia just decided no square brackets looked nicer (which is pretty standard), we just decided square brackets were easier to read. Ian.thomson (talk) 18:41, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- I hope I'm doing this the right way. Thank you for clearing this up. I agree with you that square brackets make it easier to read. But now I know the convention I'll work with it.
- I'm having a lot of difficulty. I did the online WikiMooc course, but I seem to have forgetten everything. I'm trying to clean up a page with links to "no page found", but when I touch one link, another one disappears. I'll get there eventually.
