You are aware that the advice is WP:BRD and that you should have discussed my revert on the talk page, rather than just re-instituted your edits. Furthermore, you are supposed to give meaningful edit summaries, explaining why you are making edits, as described in WP:ES. I note that you have done a whole slew of edits without paying attention to providing meaningful edit summaries. I would have expected more than this from an editor with your history. DDStretch (talk) 11:41, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- I apologize for not noticing your revert of my edit to Template:User WikiProject Cheshire before making another edit. I am making hundreds of userbox edits in succession and sometimes overlook things. My edits are primarily to modernize to current Template:Userbox preferred grammar and to resize to the standard 252x47 pixel userbox dimensions. I could have used the edit summary "Updated.", but I felt the explicit changes made were more useful. You can compare the previous version with the revised version with Template:User WikiProject Cheshire&action=history. The obsolete term Image: should be replaced with File:. The terms | id-fc = #cd853f and | id-s = 12 are meaningless since there is no id text. Common web colors are usually spelled out. Most userboxes now use | info-a = center. Please see Wikipedia:Userboxes/WikiProjects/alphabetical 03. You can make whatever edits you like to my version. Thanks for your feedback. Yours aye, Buaidh 18:56, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the apology, which I completely accept. I think you are doing good work, but that the rather terse edit summaries can lead to misunderstandings. May I suggest the following solution? Describe the reasons for the changes you are making in a short section somewhere on your user space, and in the edit summaries, provide a link to that summary. This would allow people to see and understand more easily what you are doing. However, this is just a suggestion to support your work and to try to avoid any additional misunderstandings that might happen. May be I am unusual, though, and such explanations are not needed for most people. DDStretch (talk) 20:11, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- That is a wonderful solution which, I must admit, had escaped me. Thank you so much. Yours aye, Buaidh 20:20, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject userbox templates
I am currently updating most WikiProject userbox templates. My updates are primarily intended to modernize templates to current Template:Userbox preferred grammar and to resize to standard 252x47 pixel userbox dimensions. Most updates will make little or no change to the appearance of the userbox.
Among the changes being made are:
- Change the image file prefix from the deprecated Image: to File:.
- Use the default border width.
- Resize most opaque images to x45px or less.
- If the image size is x45px, use id-c instead of border-c for the border color.
- If the image size is x45px and the image is taller than wide, use id-w = {{{id-w|0}}}.
- If the image is transparent, set id-c to info-c or a contrasting color.
- Do not override the default link colors. If the background is dark, try using #FFFFBB for text and white for links.
- Use info-a = {{{info-a|center}}} where appropriate.
- Spell out common web colors.
- Use the proper name of the project.
- Make the project name alone bold.
- Remove unused parameters.
- Order template parameters alphabetically.
- Make all text readable.
- Use Template:Ucat to designate user membership categories. If the userbox template resides in User namespace (NS:2), including User:UBX, the ucat template must be enclosed in <includeonly> </includeonly> brackets.
- Place template categories, including [[Category:WikiProject user templates]], enclosed in <noinclude> </noinclude> brackets immediately following the template body.
- Create or update template documentation.
You can use View history to view any changes to a userbox. Feel free to make whatever edits you like to my updated version.
You can view all WikiProject userbox templates at Wikipedia:Userboxes/WikiProjects/alphabetical. Please add any new or missing WikiProject userbox templates to this table. Yours aye, Buaidh 03:22, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi there, I came across this project of yours from a change to {{User WP ACCT}} which changed the display size of the project's font, and I see you've made that same change to some other wikiproject userboxes. Might I suggest you make this an option in the templates? I don't want to suggest I speak for everyone using these userboxes, but to me it is unusual to have one or two userboxes with different font sizes, and in fact I make a habit of only selecting ones which don't. Cheers. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 20:43, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your comments. For most userboxes, I use style="font-size:8pt;font-weight:normal;" for the info text and style="font-size:10pt;font-weight:bold;" for the name of the WikiProject if it will fit, otherwise style="font-size:8pt;font-weight:bold;". This is primarily to promote the WikiProject. Please see Wikipedia:Userboxes/WikiProjects/alphabetical for examples. I have converted Template:User WP ACCT to style="font-size:{{{wp-s|125%}}};font-weight:{{{wp-w|bold}}};" so you can use {{User WP ACCT|wp-s=8pt}} to give it a uniform 8pt font-size. If this will work for you, please let me know so I can apply it to other WikiProject userboxes. Yours aye, Buaidh 21:22, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Southwest Asia
Just FYI - we don't have a category hierarchy for SW Asia - Category:Southwest Asia is a redirect to Category:Western Asia. Le Deluge (talk) 14:26, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- I think Southwest Asia is a far better term for the area than Western Asia, especially since we all use the term Southeast Asia. If a Wikipedia consensus likes the term Western Asia, that's what I go with. Thanks, Buaidh 20:20, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
Page mover granted
Hello, Buaidh. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.
Useful links:
- Wikipedia:Requested moves
- Category:Articles to be moved, for article renaming requests awaiting action.
If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! TonyBallioni (talk) 19:06, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Long time, no see
As you know,
I got bogged down in outlines. I mean, really got bogged down. I'd like to build 10,000 of them, but at less than 100 per year, that'll take over 100 years. It finally dawned on me that I wasn't going to make it. So...
I switched over to writing programs, with the idea that once I get good enough at programming, I could write programs that write outlines. Then the programs should be able to write 10,000 outlines in a few hours.
Well, not there yet. While learning how to program, I've been building interactive programs to assist editors in building outlines.
One of the programs I've been developing has turned out to be rather general purpose. Which is why I'm here. I thought you might find it useful...
It is a user script called SearchSuite.js that provides a selection of on/off enhancements to search results. I use it for gathering links, for, you guessed it, outlines. But...
Seeing that you do things so fast, I figured you'd like it because with one of the combinations of its on/off features, you can show search results one per line, with all other extraneous crap stripped away. Showing just the links. Used in combination with the parameters explained at WP:PARAM, it can make for some pretty streamlined navigation. It even has a sort feature, which is especially useful when you use &limit=5000
appended to the url to show 5000 search results at a time (instead of the usual 500 maximum).
If I guessed wrong. Simply disregard this message.
I saw your name pop up over at WP:VPT, and thought I'd stop by and say "hi".
Have fun, — The Transhumanist 08:00, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
P.S.: {{ping}} me if you reply. -TT
User box changes
I'm an active member of the US President's project and have been working on US Presidents articles for a good number of years. I appreciate your efforts but the new userbox, with one solid dark background looks rather skinny and subsequently had a smaller image of the U.S. Presidents seal, which made it almost unrecognizable, while the dark background with white letters posed too much contrast. The previous version has a format that is consistent with most other users boxes and doesn't stick out when stacked in with the rest. With this in mind I have restored the previous version. Hope this doesn't present any issues for you. All the best. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 02:08, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
- Your revert is no problem. I would recommend that you reduce the size of the presidential seal from 50px to 45px. The standard size of userboxes is 47px by 238px (see Template:Userbox.) An image in excess of x45px tall will force the userbox to exceed standard height and make it difficult to stack with other userboxes.

Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing
Hello,
There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.
There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).
If you are interested in helping with this project, please see Wikipedia:Linter. There are also some basic instructions (and links to even more information) at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2018-April/001836.html You can also leave a note at WT:Linter if you have questions.
Thank you for all the good things you do for the English Wikipedia. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:18, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
The article Western Express Bicycle Route has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No evidence of route's notability
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. StarM 02:38, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
Deleting "the" from many of your userboxes
Hello! Thanks for all your work on userboxes.
Is there a reason why you removed the definite articles from the userboxes of the states of Mexico?
They are required in both Spanish and English for the sentences to be grammatically correct. I'm sure that you wouldn't say: "I live in State of Colorado." You would either say: "I live in Colorado State." or "I live in the State of Colorado."
J. E. C. E. (talk) 14:17, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- You are absolutely correct, however when working with multiple languages it seems somewhat confusing to have the definite article in one language and the proper name in another. When I first created these templates, I included the article "the". When I updated these templates recently, I thought it better to drop the English "the" rather than use "el Estado". I guess it is a judgement call. Thank you for your thoughtful note. 16:07, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- I agree that using a non-English definite article would be strange and unnecessary. However, I would still include the English definite article to help readers understand that they are about to read the title or form of government of a territory. In Wikipedia articles, I would expect to read about the Rzeczpospolita, the Jamahiriya, the Krai, the Länder, the Reichskommissariat, the Département, the Eyalet, the Wilayah and the Vilayet. Other terms like Oblast, Raion or Arrondissement that are now accepted as English words are also referred to with the definite article. Would you be comfortable with me re-doing the changes to the Mexican states userboxes that I did back on 1 December 2017? I wonder if there is a way to make many small repetitive changes like that that isn't so labor-intensive. --J. E. C. E. (talk) 19:00, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

Template:User Mexico State/doc1 is currently identical to Template:User State of Mexico/doc1.

However, an English Wikipedia "Jece" account with just a single log other than creating the account already existed when I first tried to set up an account in August 2008 and both a "JECE" and Russian Wikipedia new "Jece" account already existed when I returned to Wikipedia in November 2017. Wikipedians by ancestry
Hi Buaidh,
I noticed that you recently created a significant number of categories for users by ancestry. Some of these are recreate categories that were deleted previously, and in general ancestry/heritage user categories have been deleted as not facilitating collaboration—see e.g. here, here, here, here, and here. I do not see how ancestry user categories are appropriate under the user category guideline, but I wanted to have a discussion with you first instead of going directly to WP:CFD in case I am missing some aspect of how these categories "aid in facilitating coordination and collaboration between users for the improvement and development of the encyclopedia".
Thanks, -- Black Falcon (talk) 17:10, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Ancestry is a subclass of ethnicity. With vastly increased world migration, many Wikipedians have interests in the lands of their forebearers. This is particularly true of nations and regions that have been subject to diaspora. The African diaspora, the Jewish diaspora, the Palestinian diaspora, the Armenian diaspora, European emigration to the Americas and Australasia, and South Asia and East Asia migration have created large communities of people with mixed ethnic identities. Some of these migrants maintain the full ethnic identity of their forebearers, while others maintain a lesser identity. In the United States, we have many citizens who consider themselves hyphenated Americans: African-Americans, Anglo-Americans, Franco-Americans, German-Americans, Irish-Americans, Italian-Americans, Mexican-Americans, etc. These ancestry categories allow exploration and exposition of the effects of emigration on the emigrants themselves, the region of immigration, and the region of emigration. These are increasingly important subjects for Wikipedia. Yours aye, Buaidh talk contribs 17:53, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
New Zealand
I see that you have a second time tried to create Category:New Zealander Wikipedians. The term "New Zealander" is a valid demonym, but it is not an adjective. It is valid to talk about a "New Zealander", but not to talk about a "New Zealander person". The correct term for the latter is "New Zealand person".-gadfium 01:30, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will be happy to revert this to [[Category:New Zealand Wikipedians]] if this will make all Kiwis happy. Yours aye, Buaidh talk contribs 01:35, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- Great, thanks. I am in the process of nominating Category:New Zealander ancestry Wikipedians for renaming, but if you are willing to change it to Category:Wikipedians of New Zealand ancestry, or a similar name (Category:New Zealand ancestry Wikipedians is grammatically correct but seems very clumsy) I will abandon the nomination.-gadfium 01:41, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- I'll take care of it. I'm doing all nationalities at once and I'm afraid I bungled the Kiwis. Thanks, Buaidh talk contribs 01:43, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Flag of eSwatini.svg
A tag has been placed on File:Flag of eSwatini.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Do not make edits against consensus per discusions at Talk:Czech Republic.
At Talk:Czech Republic there have been at least 6 discussions on naming conventions on Wikipedia in regards to that nation and the conclusion was that Czech Republic was the WP:COMMONNAME and preferred for usage across Wikipedia. Discussions also reached the conclusion that in articles Czech Republic should remain and not be changed to Czechia. Your edit at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Location/Czech Republic where you renamed it to Czechia and moved it and proclaimed that it is "preferred name" is not valid. Please do not make these edits anymore as they are against a clear consensus on Wikipedia using our existing policies. For the major discussions see here:
- R9tgokunks ⭕ 17:41, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- Czech Wikipedians disagree with your consensus. Please see cs:Česko. This was the basis for my change. But, you English-speakers know so much more than the Czechs. As you wish. Yours aye, Buaidh talk contribs 18:34, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

I've managed to clear 200 articles out of there, but there are just too many for one person to fix. Thanks. - X201 (talk) 08:09, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

Duplicate params
Just a heads up this edit of yours introduced a duplicate argument and dumped a ton of pages into Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:58, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- Looking back I'm now seeing that you have been warned about this a number of times before. Please start using the preview function to make sure you aren't introducing duplicate parameters and check that category on a regular basis. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:07, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
- You have inadvertently edited substituted code. I restored the original substituted code and removed the second parameter invocation. Thanks for trying to help. Buaidh talk contribs 21:12, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Uncompaghre County is really Uncompahgre County
I stumbled across Uncompaghre_County,_Colorado and I saw that you defended its existence on the talk page. I wondered about the non-standard spelling. It turns out to be incorrect, and the citations are also incorrect, at least according to the "Laws of the Fourth Session of the General Assembly of the State of Colorado", which I have cited. I made the changes I could, but I don't know how to change the name of a page.
