Spinefarm Records is an international record label responsible for notable rock and heavy metal releases from Sleep Token, Scorpions, Bullet For My Valentine, and Killing Joke, among others. Founded in Finland in 1990, Spinefarm was acquired by Universal Music Group in 2002.[1] Spinefarm Music Group purchased English indie Candlelight Records in 2016 and launched the (country, blues, and southern rock)-oriented Snakefarm Records in 2017.

History

Riku Pääkkönen began Spinefarm Records as a mailorder distribution company. The company evolved into a record label for Finnish acts such as Nightwish, Children of Bodom, and Sonata Arctica.[2]

In 1999, a sub-label titled Spikefarm Records was started by Sami Tenetz from Thy Serpent.[4]

Since 2002, Spinefarm has been part of Universal Music Group, but operates as an independent business unit.[5]

In autumn 2007, Spinefarm launched in the UK, starting with reissuing deluxe versions of the first five Nightwish albums, including the Over the Hills and Far Away EP.

Spinefarm Records acquired Candlelight Records in 2016.

On 18 August 2017, Spinefarm Records announced the global launch of sub-label Snakefarm Records.[6] Snakefarm is home to Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, Marty Stuart, and Austin Meade, among others. [7]

As of 2024, the Spinefarm roster also includes Atreyu, Saint Asonia, While She Sleeps, Dayseeker, and Creeper.

Bands

Spinefarm Music Group consists of three sub-labels: Spinefarm Records (mainstream heavy metal and hard rock), Candlelight Records (extreme metal, black metal, and death metal), and Snakefarm Records (country, blues, and southern rock).
