River Crest Sanitarium (New York)

Hello Quisqualis, I see you removed George Dimitropolos (pulo) a second time from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Crest_Sanitarium_(New_York). Dimitropolos was director of landmark building in Romania called Palatul_Bragadiru and he owned a hotel called Hotel Olympia in NYC (200 East 42nd Street) around 1914 (research in process) and then ended up in River Crest. He is not your average individual. Can you tell me your reasons for having removed him from River Crest? He is listed on this wikipedia here https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palatul_Bragadiru. Sources include death certificate and Play Bill from the Romanian Theatre. Please advise.

Your reasons for removal are below: 1. We do not use Wikipedia as a source for Wikipedia. 2. not a notable individual 3. lack of citations of reliable sources so that others may access the same information independently My responses: Wikipedia is not the only source presented, there is hard documentary evidence, death certificate and playbill. The role of director and owner of a NYC hotel is notable. If we only relied on obtaining information which others may access independently then why do we have special institutions called Libraries or Wikipedia. I feel Libraries provide a valuable service and help obtain information that other people CANNOT source independently. Sorry but I am not following your reasoning. 23:15, 9 January 2019 (UTC)Josephintechnicolor (talk)

Wikipedia's standards of notability require coverage of a subject in WP:Reliable sources. Also, notability in Romania does not confer notability in the English-speaking world. Was Dimitropulo a national hero of Romania? Did he have an obituary in the New York Times? What books were written about him? Owning a hotel in New York City is something which many people have done. Some of the owners of multiple NYC hotels or national hotel chains have WP articles written about them, but maybe not Dimitropulo. Small fish, big pond. Do you see my point? It's the viewpoint of Wikipedia itself. Also note that we NEVER use WP as a source for WP, and that a theatre playbill is not a reliable secondary source, but a primary source, mainly for cast and crew information. A death certificate is a valid source on Wikipedia for verifying death, its time and its place. For en:Wikikpedia to consider Dimitropulo notable may take a lot of WP:Original research on your part. Unfortunately, OR is forbidden in WP articles.--Quisqualis (talk) 01:06, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Quisqualis
I am sure you are quite busy but I wanted to point out that I fixed the photos on River Crest, (no water mark, they were provided by Greater Astoria Historical Society) did you notice, any comments? 01:54, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Josephintechnicolor (talk)
The results look good. You may want to note that Wikipedia has an WP: Image lab which can remove the ink stamp from the sky area of the colored postcard brochure. They do a very good job there. Apparently, the wrong face of the postcard was inked in the stamp-cancellation process back in 1920--Quisqualis (talk) 05:12, 4 February 2019 (UTC).[reply]
Thank you. I've submitted to the lab. 09:25, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Josephintechnicolor (talk)
Hello Quisqualis

I noticed you removed Kelly (Mohre) Hyman stating she is not notable on this wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doin%27_Time_on_Planet_Earth Recently I found this PDF, hoping it will give some more credibility to the actress. Do you think so?

Hello,

Will you be updating the sly syndrome article page to include the additional information posted on the talk page from Gary?

Hello, IP editor. The material presented in Gary at Ultragenyx's post regarding Mepsevii contains a disclaimer,

which negates its inclusion in the article until further studies suggest otherwise.--Quisqualis (talk) 21:15, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your edits. Hi, Ylevental. I have a good excuse: I edited that article over a 24-hour period (with sleep), and had so exhausted my brain by reading that article about 25 times in its entirety in a most granular manner, and most of the references as well. I left those tags to remind myself, or another reader (whose initials might be YL) to put in the cite. Would you please do it for me? 1st, I was on the plane that crashed. I have just finished writing a book about the crash and the numbers of 10 dead out of 45 on board the North Central plane are correct. There is no better source than the NSTB - AA-73-15 which is the investigative report on the accident by the National Safety Transportation Board. The link takes you to that report, but you then have to click on it. Trying to copy the link of the report itself did not work. So, I need more insight into your comments and exactly what you did. Regarding your comment while undoing my edit of article Duke Cunningham

Duke Cunningham is a decorated veteran to say the least. To not write about his military history because he is mostly notable for his political and criminal background is quite injudicious. So I believe there can be a healthy debate about including his military career in the introductory paragraph.

But to undo a edit and deliberately accuse someone of violating WP:COI is highly disrespectful, more so when the language used is in line to policies of WP:NPV. I would request you to refrain from these inflammatory remarks. SoloKnowHow83 (talk) 17:55, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse

In my opinion, you are at times too acerbic in comments at Teahouse. Often, the questions are posed by new editors, and they should not be hit with a stick, regardless of how righteous they come across. David notMD (talk) 13:18, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mt. Olympus Edits

You are getting too acerbic with all of your comments. You told an experienced editor that "Wikipedia isn't about the truth. It's about what is stated in reliable sources. Please cite one." Yet, my edit summary explained that you cannot cite things that are no longer there. Not to mention that items in the infobox do not need to be cited when the material in the text of the article is already cited. In this particular edit, the body of the article lists five roller coasters at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park. When I changed the infobox to agree with the text in the article you insisted there be a citation. Sorry, but your opinion is incorrect. The information is already within the body of the article. There are hundreds of infoboxes without citations for each entry.JlACEer (talk) 17:54, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In case you are unfamiliar:
From Help:Infobox
What should an infobox contain?
In general, data in infobox templates should be:
Already cited elsewhere in the article. Infoboxes, like the introduction to the article, should primarily contain material that is expanded on and supported by citations to reliable sources elsewhere in the article. However, if necessary (e.g., because the article is currently incomplete), it is possible to include footnotes in infoboxes.

To add information

Hello sir, I have a request. Here it goes, on Shamsheer Vayalil wikipedia there is an infobox in which there is a column named alma mater. In that column name of two medical colleges are given: 1:) Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. 2:) Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai. When I clicked on the link of second college I found that the college is not actually located in Chennai. It is located in "Porur" a city in "Chennai".But in early life paragraph " Porur" is indicated. So I request you to add "Porur" in the format I am showing you below. "Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Porur, ChennaiChennai(in alma mater column). Thanks. (left by IP editor 223.230.167.170 on 15 June 2019)

You appear to have added "Citation Needed" to lots of things on the page about Phil Konstantin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Konstantin

Please forgive me if it wasn't you that added the Citation Needed markers.

After I noticed this, I looked around and found quite a few things which were once on the internet in newspapers, stories, books and websites. Some of them have been deleted as time goes by, because most publications don't keep large backups, or old articles very long. TV stations in San Diego had a lot of this information on their Reporter Profile pages. Since I have retired, those pages were deleted. Some of this information was also posted on my personal website. It may have been deleted during my change in web hosts and site reorganizations. In any case, I found verifications for quite a few things. I posted several in February 2019 in the Talk section of the page. I posted more recently. So far, no one seems to have done anything about adding the citations. Since the page is about me, I cannot do it.

With a few very minor exceptions (which I noted on the Talk page), the profile/article/page/whatever you want to call it is accurate.

Any suggestions?

Phil Konstantin Phil Konstantin (talk) 21:43, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Therein lies the problem. A "page about you" isn't an encyclopedia article. If you wish for citations to be added to it, feel free to suggest the additions on the Talk page of your "whatever".--Quisqualis (talk) 23:38, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I have checked out the page. Who wouldn't check out an article about themselves. The page is not an autobiography. That is against Wikipedia rules. I have readers or viewers in many different places. For example New York Newsday once wrote a review about one of my websites many years ago. I had never seen that publication before. I found out about it while doing an unrelated web search. Some people have contributed to discussions on the Talk Page, whom I do not know personally. I don't know who created it originally. Since the 'encyclopedia article' is about me, I don't know what else to call it. A few years ago, I did correct one error in the article. Another editor informed me that was inappropriate, since you are not supposed to change things about matters you are part of. I removed the change. Someone else then reapplied the change a few days later. I did suggest the additions for some of the Citation Needed matters on the Talk Page after someone (it appears it was you) added 'Citation Needed' to many parts of the article. Since then, nobody has applied those suggestions. Perhaps you are not the person who added the Citation Needed markers to the article. I do know that if I had added Citation Needed to an article, I would check back later to see if any information had been provided to clarify or support something.
I mainly use Wikipedia as a source of information. Occasionally, I try to improve it. With due respect, I doubt any additions to your profile actually improve the encyclopedia.--Quisqualis (talk) 22:57, 20 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. But, why add Citation Needed if it won't make any difference?

Hi Quisqualis,

I see that you blanked Pittosporum pentandrum, because species pages shouldn't point to genus pages. I've undone the change, because it's better to have a bad redirect than a blank page. You can now propose the page for deletion through some suitable process, either RfD or PROD, I guess.

Question about page Renewable energy in Vietnam

Dear Quisqualis

Thank you for the contribution you make on page Renewable energy in Vietnam. I'm really appreciated. I have a few questions I would like to ask for better understanding your contribution:

In Hydropower section, you said that "not all readers of this article live in Vietnam"; in Solar energy section you wrote "article is for a worldwide audience, not only your boss" and "Wikipedia articles are aimed at a worldwide audience, not one country". I edit this article with the purpose of bringing new information about types of renewable energy in Vietnam to everyone so all sections like Solar energy, Hydropower,... are written for the public. The page speaks itself: update situation in Vietnam for everyone may or may not live in Vietnam can read.

I don't understand much about your comment. Could you explain to me?

You Removed some edits from the Afridi article

I noticed that you had removed some of the names from the Afridis article from the notable figures section stating that they are non-notable . Can I know your reason why they are not notable enough ? they are very highly regarded people in the Afridi tribes . I also cited a reference to the book written by Major Warburton giving extra information on the subject. Thank You Zaros Holstein (talk)Zaros Holstein —Preceding undated comment added 10:07, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,Zaros Holstein, I did so on the basis of their not having articles written about them on Wikipedia, but soon afterwards I read that red-linked people are permissible on lists if the addition is sourced. Apologies for removing the two names, and I hope you or another editor will be able to write the articles about them which Wikipedia lacks.--Quisqualis (talk) 20:29, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

thank you for clarifying your actions , no problem . I will write then back. Zaros Holstein (talk)Zaros Holstein —Preceding undated comment added 12:40, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Book , "Eighteen years in the Khyber"

I had given the source and url to the wiki article of the book eighteen years in the Khyber , but it seems like someone may have deleted that page for some reason , Now the only link available is the review for the book and where to read it , including on the article of it's Author Robert Warburton in the family section. And since it's a very old book I can't find the publishing house/publisher and the orignal writing date or the book. ~~Zaros Holstein Zaros Holstein (talk) 18:10, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User page

Hi Quisqualis, If it is ok to ask: Why do you not have an User page (anymore)? If I see a contributor with a "red name" I (wrongly) assume it's a newbie...

Thank you and have a good weekend --F.Blaubiget (talk) 06:44, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Long story. Initially, I made an edit of one space character in order to turn my name blue. I recently realized that other editors might waste their time visiting a blank user page, and changed it back to red. I dislike summing myself up, and have minimal social media presence. An additional benefit of having a red name is that I can find my posts on discussion pages a little more easily.--Quisqualis (talk) 15:39, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you and interesting to read. I never thought about that (avoiding that others visit a blank page; finding yourself more easily). Made me think... All the best and stay in touch. --F.Blaubiget (talk) 11:25, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

strikethrough

You closed it with <s/> when it needed to be </s>. Schazjmd (talk) 23:43, 31 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A Suggestion for Quisqualis

Dearest Quisqualis,

You've responded to several things I have posted on the Wikipedia Teahouse. I don't always find your thoughts or suggestions useful or helpful, but, your input does not go unnoticed, and there is some insight, often mirroring subsequent comments.

That said, you don't have a user page. When I see your comments, your name is in red. Is there a reason you have not created a user page?

At the time I'm writing this, I'm new, but I took the time to at least create a minimal user page. On the other hand, you have many sections on your talk page, and it seems you've been around for a while.

Just a thought.

Regards,

PhanChavez (talk) 06:16, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Quisqualis once had a user page, but chose to have it deleted. I've no idea why. Maproom (talk) 08:11, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

I don't understand, i found proper sources and they are removed, why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by IntercontinentalEmpire (talkcontribs) 22:07, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me for addressing you in English. Did you read the 3 edit summaries? Two said "unsourced" the third one (reverting your first edit) said you removed an archived URL for no good reason.--Quisqualis (talk) 22:55, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category

I didn't change categories. I add one. It wasn't for political purposes. It was for factual information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ovalsign19 (talkcontribs) 03:59, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just cite a Reliable source and it will all be good.--Quisqualis (talk) 04:06, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Preview

Why did you send me this message? My modification was correct, I always use the preview button. --d-n-f (talk) 08:51, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It was an error. Look at the final edit once more, closely. And thank you for using the preview button.--Quisqualis (talk) 14:47, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your editing suggestions

Thank you for assisting me into becoming a sufficiently better encyclopedic editor. Not sure how to send a star or smiley emoji to you on Wiki, but if I did, both would be gifted to you straight away! EMETIB MAILLIW (talk) 23:48, 9 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is Wikipedia normally so toxic ?

Hello - following your kind welcoming message ([1]) I decided to register. However, I have been horrified with messages I have received within hours of registering, (see [2]) As you appear to be experienced here could you explain is this is normal ? Certainly, I have no interest in being involved if such aggression and toxicity is either accepted or commonplace.--SnowyMalone (talk) 19:06, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was posting on this talk page, SnowyMalone, and I get the impression from the Help Desk and the Teahouse that some people do have this experience. It's not what we want. We want Wikipedia to be welcoming to newcomers.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 19:41, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I want to write a company page in wikipedia

I have created a page over here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:4th_%26_Reckless which is for the company. But it is not getting accepted. Please tell me how can I make this an article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 43.251.171.23 (talk) 14:33, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at your draft, and now I will take some time to read your sources and do a bit of Googling to see what kind of WP:notability 4th & Reckless have achieved. Will get back to you. I like the company name very much.--Quisqualis (talk) 06:02, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
