Welcome to The Wikipedia Adventure!

Hi Tronvillain! We're so happy you wanted to play to learn, as a friendly and fun way to get into our community and mission. I think these links might be helpful to you as you get started.

Thanks, it was a fun little exercise. --tronvillain (talk) 22:58, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Working in Wikipedia

If you don't have access to a reference, please don't make claims that X is not supported by the reference. If you can't access a source you should ask if someone else has it and could provide it to you. (i got the Houglum book from google books, so you should be able to as well). I have a shitload of work to do and you have wasted my time. Jytdog (talk) 16:46, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I literally said "or at least the associated quote." What do you think the quote is supposed to be, if not support for the sentences the citation is attached to? As I said in the talk page, the existing quote doesn't appear to be used support anything in the article. -tronvillain (talk) 17:33, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Here is what you wrote: "Ah, I see you've switched to the Houglom reference, which doesn't actually contain the quote you mention," So now in addition to not checking sources before you challenge content, you are misrepresenting what you yourself said. If you continue to do things like this, people will just start ignoring you. This is not a game, it is scholarship. Do your own homework. Do not waste other volunteers' time - it is the most valuable thing Wikipedia has (and my time is the most valuable thing I have) Jytdog (talk) 18:30, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that? Sorry, I meant that the attached quote didn't contain the quote you mention, not the text itself... which is why I suggested changing the attached quote. --tronvillain (talk) 18:41, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And I wasn't trying to misrepresent what I said, I thought you were talking about(further down on that same diff) "Also apparently unsupported by its citation (or at least the associated quote) is 'She also saw the body as continually under attack from gravity; in her view, gravity tends to compress fascia...'." --tronvillain (talk) 18:55, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So you are not even able to acknowledge that you raised all kinds of "concern" - in great detail - without having checked the source yourself. I have little patience for bullshit and none for people who double down when called on it. You get no more of my time. Jytdog (talk) 19:10, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I totally acknowledge that I didn't originally check the source myself... because I was talking about the quote attached to the reference. If the quote was just removed entirely, I wouldn't even have commented, but a large quote attached to a reference should support something in one of the three spots using it as a citation. Perhaps it was added as support of something else which was subsequently removed? Anyway, when you quoted a different part of the two referenced pages, I suggested changing the quote. And now that I've checked the source, it raises a few concerns of its own, as I mentioned on the talk page. --tronvillain (talk) 19:35, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That

What about removing "that"? It is sometimes just extra verbiage and doesn't change the meaning. http://www.dailywritingtips.com/five-words-you-can-cut/

- Example - "Can you remember the time that you reverted changes removing a word?" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikehenke (talkcontribs) 15:56, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Follow up comment to your remark

Hi Tronvillain: That ED site certainly contains blatant, over-the-top, absurdly exaggerated statements about people and topics, in an attempt to appear humorous, I suspect. However, certainly on the JzG page, it provides a series of links to real, existing Wikipedia web pages / discussion pages that contain highly profane quotes authored by the admin. I'm sure I'm not mistaking what I'm seeing with my own eyes on Wikipedia discussion pages. So there evidently appears to be absurd falsehoods mixed with sprinkles of truth. Reason for fixing edit to The Daily Beast

Hi, I just wanted ask why you undid my edit to The Daily Beast article that removed the line referring to it as liberal because of it's source.Scholar200 (talk) 03:53, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I undid that edit because The Daily Caller is an adequate source to establish something as subjective as it being described as liberal - there are countless other instances of it being described as such (usually by various conservative sites). That doesn't establish it as actually being liberal, which is why I have their self description there as well. --tronvillain (talk) 13:12, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Escape from New York

You are right—"Barricade" it is. I was basing it off my CD edition (not found at Discogs), which for some reason lists it as "Barricades". Mac Dreamstate (talk) 16:05, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also thinking I might have a high-quality bootleg, since Discogs has no trace of my one despite the vast amount of versions. Nonetheless, good spot. Was there a source for that release date I had to revert, btw? I could only go by AllMusic. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 18:56, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Horizon edit

I added information I compiled from several articles on the calculation of the distance to the horizon. You deleted it stating it was an unsupported opinion. But as a traumatic brain injury survivor, I don't understand things all the time. Can you explain what that means to you and why you applied it to my addition. What I read concluded that no equation is accurate enough to calculate the distance to the horizon because there are too many variables. These are what I thought were facts so can you help me understand. OK thank you and have a great day. Ldecarlo36@gmail.com Ldecarlo36 (talk) 10:15, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The effects of atmospheric refraction are discussed both at the beginning of the section, and in the subsection below. The assertion "The earth is circular so no matter what way we look the curve should be visible in this coastal photo, but the horizontal line separating the ocean from the sky appears just as it is, a horizontal line with no visual evidence of a curve." is simply inaccurate - at sea level on a sphere, the math does not predict any visible curvature of the horizon line. --tronvillain (talk) 17:30, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Index medicus/MEDLINE/PubMed/PubMed Central

This is mistake? In other articles see Journal of Bacteriology, Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Experimental & Molecular Medicine.. --Мит Сколов (talk) 20:53, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Index Medicus exists as a curated subset of MEDLINE, so it seems very odd to have it first in the order. --tronvillain (talk) 21:02, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
..And PubMed Central? --Мит Сколов (talk) 21:14, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Is an archive of open access articles. PubMed is the search engine for MEDLINE. --tronvillain (talk) 21:22, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Tronvillain. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
