Disambiguation link notification for November 16

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Politics of Oregon, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Republican and Trail Blazer (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WP:MMA Invite

Thanks for helping to make MMA articles on Wikipedia better! In November 97 people made a total of 899 edits to MMA articles. I noticed you haven't listed yourself on the WikiProject Mixed martial arts Participants page. Take a look, sign up, and don't forget to say hi on the talk page.

MMA afd

i could not agree that the articles lack good sources. i've been working on a cheat sheet for sources that cover MMA, finally have this {{MMA find sources}} built to the point that i can actually show people. might help people to find better sources to cite. If you have any concern about barnstars, take a look at Wikipedia:Barnstars and Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia Awards. Actually, i just had to choose the barnstar and write the message to Kevlar (they're template-based). Regards — Poison Whiskey 15:30, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note

Please have a read of WP:CANVAS as your post to WT:MMA was canvassing, overall the WP community is taking a very dim view of that sort of thing with relation to MMA AfD's this discussion is evidence of that. Mtking (edits) 23:52, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All I did was make note of it. I swear it says somewhere in the whole AFD process to notify interested parties. Isnt the mma wiki an interested party? I didnt instruct anyone to do anything in particular. I stand by my post. Its not like I went onto Reddit. Maybe the pushing out of the boat thing wasnt the best way to put it. But I made that post realising that there are a sizeable chunk of people in this community who are looking to jettison dead weight.PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 00:26, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ignore Mtking, he is trying to bully you. The first bullet point under 'appropriate notification' on WP:CANVAS is The talk page of one or more WikiProjects (or other Wikipedia collaborations) directly related to the topic under discussion. In other words, you did nothing remotely wrong. Also, Mtking is fond of saying that his own singular opinion is reflective of the 'WP community'. The 'WP community' wouldn't know him from a hole in the wall. --SubSeven (talk) 00:59, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And your comments are not as civil and angelic as you're claiming. "No Personal Attacks" means exactly that. Never comment on the editor, comment on the content. Hasteur (talk) 12:51, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PortlandOregon97217, Those editors who are interested have the Article Alert system (located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mixed martial arts/Article alerts) if they're interested in fighting the good fight. You've been asked by TreyGeek, MtKing, Kevlar to use that system rather than posting non-neutral messages to the MMA Project talk page. This constitutes a second warning about canvassing now in relation to the Ricky Shivers AfD. Hasteur (talk) 12:51, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It won't be the last. You might as well just flag down an admin so that you can see that you are wrong. Theres nothing wrong with placing neutral notices in the appropriate wikiproject. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 03:51, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and I only posted 1 that could be classified as non neutral. oops. my bad. But the other two were a-ok. I mean, last time I checked there wasn't a WikiKing of a Wikiproject who made concrete rules. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 07:35, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aarhus Gymnastikforening

Following this recent AfD that was speedily kept, please be aware of WP:BEFORE, which requires you fully understand policies and guidelines and carry out relevant notability/sourcing checks before nominating an article for deletion. Regards, GiantSnowman 09:04, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your nomination was completely, 100% incorrect - hence why the AfD was speedily closed. Your response to me indicates a lack of WP:COMPETENCE as well. GiantSnowman 09:17, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd advise you to put your attitude to one side and listen to what people are saying before you wind up getting blocked. GiantSnowman 09:23, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. That'll show me...

You're not making any sense either here or at my talk page. If you're in Oregon it's approx. 1:40am? If so I suggest you go get some sleep. GiantSnowman
Because the article is not "non notable" and therefore does not belong in the "garbage bin" - if you unaware of how notability works on Wikipedia, then you should not be editing. Please also learn to format your talk page posts. GiantSnowman 09:58, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, could you please have a read of the Wikipedia Civility policy Wikipedia:Civility. While this is the internet, Wikipedia has rules and guidelines to follow. An idea to end the MMadness.

Why create an omnibus separating the free events by type. Like UFC on Fox, UFC on FX, UFC on FUEL TV, and so on. And for PPV numbers we also have UFC 1-10, UFC 10-20 and so on in incrimants of 10? We can also made an omnibus page for the TUF Finales. But they must be AS detailed as the stand alone articles. And very notable events like UFC 94 and UFC 148 must have their own page. Also needs to be updated and have NO spelling or grammatical errors. Can this be an idea to stop the madness over MMA on wikipedia? JonnyBonesJones (talk) 08:37, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly I would be OK with whatever resolution people come to so long as the baby isn't thrown out with the bathwater in regards to MMA as a whole. Mainly lowkey events/people who received big coverage outside of the UFC or were on TV. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 09:06, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

TUF Notability

I'm pretty much getting tired of trying to explain it over and over to people who have no clue how things really work. Newer MMA fans seem to be about the least knowledgeable know-it-alls around. It's actually nice to know that there is at least 1 other person who is also passionate and knowledgeable about the sport working on this project. If you need any help with what you are planning on working on, let me know. Willdawg111 (talk) 09:52, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP:TUF

I suggest metioning something to the effect of once you are a professional MMA fighter, you are no longer elligible to compete in any MMA fight other than Professional MMA fights. I was looking for some type of article that actually stated that but my initial search came up empty. I guess it's not something the media doesn't really talk about.
You make good points, I just don't know how much they will help to make people understand. To me it just seems so simple, they are professional fights, they are put on by the UFC, so they meet the current notability. People keep getting hung up on the word exhibition or not being on the record, like that it somehow means they aren't a professional fight.
With some of the arguments we are seeing now, like the UFC isn't top tier when putting on TUF fights, and some other off the wall, insane arguments, I just think we are dealing with some people who refuse to admit that they were wrong or are seriously delisional. I just don't know if there is anything you can tell them to make them understand because they don't appear to want to understand. Willdawg111 (talk) 00:40, 24 December 2012 (UTC) I'm not sure if that first statement is accurate. If you check Melvin Guillards mma.com record he has an ammy fight mixed in from like 08. My bud was gonna fight Andy Eichollz in an ammy fight, and we went to look his record up and were all like wtf,and you can see his pro and ammy record kinda bounces around. It looks like Hastuer's recent attack on my essay failed tho so that's a good sign. I'm just gonna keep pushing it to try and make something happen. Then maybe we can dig up some of the old TUF guys who have gotten deleted. Not sure of any examples but im sure they are out there. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 04:12, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've asked Delinquent to go to the article talk page. If he continues to edit without consensus I will consider taking further action - I also advise you not to edit war in retaliation. GiantSnowman 22:06, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of comments and Afd from a banned user

I was wondering the same thing. It would make sense that you should be able to go in and close all of them out, however I haven't been around long enough to know for sure. I am also hesitant to try to do one or two of them because he appears to have some sort of connection with somebody else on here. There is another editor that was following him around, backing everything he did. When he was getting locked out, this user was even going to his talk page trying to defend him with basically the same arguments that he was using. I'm fairly certain there is a connection between the two, whether this guy has multiple accounts, or its a friend or family member, I don't know. I just picked up on a very odd connection between them. This person is still going after my articles and posting bogus reasons to delete sections of them. Until we can be certain we can do it, I'm not going to risk it because I'm sure his other account/partner will immediately report us if we do. Willdawg111 (talk) 19:15, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Who do you think is his partner? If we contact a bureaucrat or administrator before we strikeout/delete his AfD's nobody would report us. --LlamaAl (talk) 19:47, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. --LlamaAl (talk) 15:57, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi guys, let me get this straight - there is a user who is currently blocked/banned who is using a sock to vote in AfDs? GiantSnowman 12:54, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We aren't sure the exact connection, whether it is a second account, a close friend, family member, etc. And the account that was banned was what appeared to be a secondary account, the account that was following the banned account around backing everything he said, appears to actually be the older of the 2 account. Speaking of which, there appears to be another account that hasn't been active for awhile, who popped up today and looks like he might be picking up where the banned account left off. Things are looking very suspicious in this project. Willdawg111 (talk) 18:14, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you have suspicions then I suggest WP:SPI to get confirmation. GiantSnowman 18:22, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't want us to take over somebody else's talk page, but thanks for the heads up. Willdawg111 (talk) 19:08, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think it might be worth it. You guys have been at wikipeding longer than me and would probably know. PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 20:10, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Meh PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 03:55, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
you know it took me a couple minutes to figure out what they were issuing a warning for. Don't feel bad, I got a temporary block for putting removing vandalism in the comment section. I wouldn't have considered that a personal attack until somebody pointed it out in one of the hundreds of pages of stuff people are supposed to know. I just wanted to hit you up and let you know that it looks like you had the right to delete that speedy deletion tag, and that the person who undid it actually violated the policy. Thanks for realizing that people are ignoring the guidelines when it suits them and for standing up for what is right. All of these pages full of procedures and abbreviations are starting to make my head spin. I hit up that admin and asked him for some help. Hopefully he can help me make sense out of all of this mess. Willdawg111 (talk) 05:08, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There's no delicate way to say this, so, basically, I would strongly encourage you to completely ignore the above comment. Your edit summary was highly insulting, and whether or not you're on the right side of policy is immaterial. Don't get me wrong, as a formerly blocked user myself, I'm all for second chances and forgiveness, but it's irresponsible of Willdawg to imply that you won't get blocked if you are rude like this again. IMHO, the most important thing to remember on Wikipedia is that once an dispute becomes a disciplinary issue, the content that provoked it doesn't matter; Willdawg appears to have forgotten this, but I urge you not to forget it yourself. — Francophonie&Androphilie(Je vous invite à me parler) 05:55, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was in no way trying to encourage him to add comments like that. I thought I was doing the opposite by pointing out that I had recieved a block just for referring to unwarranted edits as vandalism. I'm sorry you interpreted my comments as something different. Willdawg111 (talk) 07:41, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, mtking has been wrong before and they will be wrong again. They also didn't notice that the Ricky Shivers one was the third. I noted about Mike Ricci, Shivers, and the NAAFS yet no one protested except the aforementioned. A few people would prefer I put them somewhere else but that somewhere else seems burried away where people won't notice. That's why I'm constantly asking that giantsnowman admin for advice; it's hard to find stuff around here. For me anyway. And if i'm having a hardtime I figure there are others. Even if its something that we disagree on, I can honestly say that you are one of the editors that really seems to have the good of the project in mind when you do things. Keep fighting for what you feel is right. I also hope you didn't interpret my comments above as saying you should insert those types of comments. I was trying to point out that even calling unwarranted edits vandalism was considered a personal attack, and that if you get blocked for something like that, you aren't going to be able to help out the project. Even if the person is wrong, we have to suck it up and be diplomatic about our comments. Willdawg111 (talk) 07:46, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Beware dangerous words

Yes, PortlandOregon97217, I saw you mentioned at WP:AN, and I echo the warnings above, as another formerly blocked long-term user, that saying a few "forbidden" words can still get you wp:blocked (multiple times), so rather than say "vandalism" I use the phrase "hack edits" which covers experimentation or accidental hacking of text (rather than implying someone is a "vandal"). As you may already know, some mentions of legal phrases can result in a block, such as beware saying, "libelous" or "slander" or "illegal" which can be twisted as claiming you are gathering evidence to file a lawsuit after talking with legal notices, as covered by wp:THREAT (wp:NLT), and instead, refer to insulting comments as "derogatory" or "disparaging" or similar phrases which are not so closely associated with legal actions (as "libel"). Also, note that most user-blocks tend to be temporary, and you would be allowed limited conversations on your talk-page, or to edit any other-language Wikipedia, such as German Wikipedia (dewiki) or Ukranian Wikipedia (ukwiki), while blocked from editing English Wikipedia (enwiki). I have strongly advised WP to change, from draconian blocks, to a system of accumulated demerits, and opposite merit points, so that a user could be calmly penalized with "100 demerits" for an improper phrase, where additional demerits would total to a block-level count unless offset by merits earned for fixing several pages which had specific copy-edit problems. Anyway, this place can be very scary, and admins have even blocked other admins, but remember some editors have been blocked over 12 times yet returned, again, after another few months or so. Also, don't let threatening remarks rob you of your personality. And, BTW, welcome aboard! -Wikid77 (talk) 12:30, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comments for WP:TUF essay on my userpage

after taking a glance at WP:TUF, should fights televised on The Ultimate Fighter be included as a notable fight for the purpose of WP:NMMA?

Of course. The current guidelines only require the fights to be professional and be for a top tier organization. TUF fights are sanctioned, professional fights. The UFC is top tier. Easily meets current requirements. Willdawg111 (talk) 07:41, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MMA notability proposal

I was actually coming to your page, to let you know I came up with this idea of creating a point system of notability. I've layed out an initial plan. I know you have been working hard on trying to close out the debate about TUF, but I really think that with the amount of change in the sport over the years, the best bet might just be to redo the entire notability layout. Your one of the editors that has always shown to be open minded, so if you get a chance, please check it out and let me know what you think. It's on the bottom of my talk page. One of the things I could use some help with is with all the promoters popping up, I'm looking to get a good list together of 100 point promotions, such as the NAAFS, WSOF, ones that would be debatable as second tier. You'll see what I'm talking about if you get to look at it. Thanks. Willdawg111 (talk) 07:41, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy keep/delete criteria

Hello, i noticed that you are voting for "speedy delete" and "speedy keep" at some AfD discussions. However, apparently none of the articles matches with the criteria for speedy deletion (WP:CSD) or speedy keep (WP:CSK). If you are wanting to show the certainty of your vote, i recommend you to say "strong keep/delete" rather than "speedy keep/delete". Regards — Poison Whiskey 01:59, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

January 2013

Hello. It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on biased users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote—in order to influence Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jamie Yager (2nd nomination). While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. TreyGeek (talk) 21:30, 6 January 2013 (UTC) No. I am asking the person to vote. We have also disagreed in the past so I don't feel this is canvassing. He is easily the most informed contributor on this wikiproject, aside from myself of course. And as for paralympiakos, he is the only person i've seen talking at any length about the IFL. these are THE MOST INFORMED MMA WIKIPROJECT MEMBERS. I'm not sure what his prevailing opinions are other than the fact that he would like the IFL added to the list of tiers. The other guy, well as you can see he had valuable input at the Jamie Yager discussion which had previously not been discussed. Rather than other yahoos who just appear at the afd's and say "fails X guideline/user essay" and calls it a day. And you also interupppted my currrent train of thought. So I will get back to what i was doing before you jumped to conclusions PortlandOregon97217 (talk) 21:34, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I put a comment in that talk page asking him to remove the link to my talk page. I really felt it was out of line to imply that you were canvassing my talk page. I was already a big part of that discussion, and all you did was point something out to me. I feel like by doing that he is trying to discount my comments and imply that I was only there because you asked me to and maybe get the closing admin to ignore my comments that point out the facts that show that he was clear notability. I was working an out of town show yesterday, make sure you check your email because I sent you some info that you might be interested in. By the way, Bellator is picking up one of our local guys. Finally getting on the map. Willdawg111 (talk) 06:47, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question Have you seen any guidelines as to closing out the deletion requests of sock puppets? I know after JonnyBonesJones was banned people were claiming they needed to stay, but I think I saw somewhere that you can remove stuff done by the sock puppets but just not sure where I think I saw it. MMA Project

I hate to see you give up on the MMA project but believe me I understand. As a fellow martial artist, I hate to see the MMA project being dictated by cyber bullies that have never been in the cage or on the mats, but it is what it is. What we do gives us a level of self awareness that most people will never understand. They might be able to win some debate on the internet but they can never beat us. Remember a true martial artist is unbeatable because no matter if we succeed or fail in what we are doing, we have the self awareness to evaluate ourselves and the situation and become a better person because of it. Julian Lane passed multiple notability but I'm not worried about it right now. I feel like it was targeted because I pissed off a certain editor, who is now banned, and that there are a few people who just don't like them and refused to accept the guidelines actually backed his notability. I removed a list of articles that I've created off of my page so they won't get targeted. I'm going to give it some time and try to figure out how to challenge it down the road. I have the guidelines on my side if I can get the evaulating admin to look at them and realize it. It was absolutely insane that they tried to get an organization like the NAAFS deleted. These guys put on more shows than the UFC and are licensed up and down the east coast. At least the admin reviewing that realized that the people claiming it wasn't notable didn't have a clue what they were talking about.

It is what it is. I'm going to stick around for awhile. I'm hoping to find a doctor to fix my damaged shoulders and back and get my arthritis under control so I can get back into a training camp, but until that happens, I have extra time on my hands. Not a sockpuppet

I'm not a sock. I was blocked before for using multiple accounts - but that's in the past. I work in many WIkimedia projects, not only here, and my Ip is very easy to spot, so don't worry about me. --LlamaAl (talk) 15:04, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Michael Corey for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Michael Corey is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Corey until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Hasteur (talk) 22:49, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I put in the tables, and filled out his entire professional MMA career. If you want to fill in some of the article information and references at the top of the page, that would be helpful. I also left Hasteur a note on his talk page telling him the article has enough information now that there isn't any reason for him not to close it out. Only time will tell if he will step up and do the right thing. Willdawg111 (talk) 01:54, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

JonnyBonesJones

I was talking to the admin who closed out the JonnyBonesJones sockpuppet investigation after they confirmed JadeSnake as a sockpuppet. I guess they didn't investigate the other names because they weren't put into the top section to be investigated. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/JonnyBonesJones. The investigation was re-opened to investigate the other accounts mentioned. There was another account that I know you mentioned in the first report that wasn't ever looked at. Feel free to add that account to the list and add on the evidence if you wish. I'm not canvassing for support, just figured since you were a part of the original discussion and you had concerns about a specific account, you may want to know that it was re-opened. Hey, will you kindly refrain from this type of comment please? An IP user posted on your page what he claimed to be your real name and that of another MMA editor. Whether they were correct or not, that's clearly an attempt at WP:OUTING and needed to be removed, which is why you can't see those two edits. If you wish to know what they claimed your real name was, please email me. Black Kite (talk) 10:27, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Had a bunch of insults and my personal information placed on my page by the same IP addresses. Dennis Brown was kind enough to quickly ban those 2 IP addresses. Unlike yours, Black Kite caught most of the attacks and got rid of them but a couple were missed and I saw what they said. The IP addresses addmitted to being the same person as JonnyBonesJones and he said that he had plently of proxy servers to keep on coming after us. I have a real issue with bullies including cyber bullies, so personally I have no plans on changing anything up because of it, however, I felt that you needed to know what he was saying so you can make an educated decision about what you want to do.
