The Samsung Galaxy M series is a line of online-exclusive budget smartphones manufactured by Samsung Electronics. The first models in the series, the Samsung Galaxy M10 and M20, were released on February 5, 2019; they were followed by the Samsung Galaxy M30 on March 7 and the Samsung Galaxy M40 on June 18. The Galaxy M10s and M30s were announced on September 18, and both were released on September 29.[1]. The Galaxy M01 and M11 were released on June 2 and were available for sale on both online and offline platforms.[2]
The Galaxy M series serves as a successor to both the Galaxy J series and the Galaxy Mega phablets.
Description
Being positioned at the mid-range and low-end segments, all models in the series have the essential features of a smartphone and differ in size and design. The letter M stands for millennial and alludes to the older Galaxy Mega series, which have similar screen sizes. However, new features are left out or other materials are used, with Samsung targeting Asian markets or the European entry-level market. The models are updated at least annually; minor updates or variants are displayed with name additions.
In September 2018, there were rumors that Samsung would reorganize their smartphone lineup by discontinuing the Galaxy J series along with the online-exclusive Galaxy On in favor of extending the mid-range Galaxy A series to lower-end segment and introducing the Galaxy M series as the new online-exclusive series of smartphones[3] to better compete against Chinese smartphone brands, such as Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Samsung later introduced the Galaxy M10 and M20 in January 2019.[4]
