Running Man (Korean)

Keep Running (Chinese: 奔跑吧; pinyin: Bēnpǎo Ba), previously known as Running Man (Chinese: 奔跑吧兄弟; pinyin: Bēnpǎo Ba Xiōngdì) before 2017, is a Chinese variety show broadcast on ZRTG: Zhejiang Television.[1][2] It is a spin-off from the popular original South Korean variety show Running Man by SBS.[3] It was first aired on 10 October 2014. The show is classified as a game-variety show, where the MCs and guests complete missions at a landmark to win a race.

Program name

When the show was first announced, it was known as "跑男" or "Running Man" in Chinese. Zhejiang TV programs required five stars names,[4] hence the program was then renamed to "奔跑吧兄弟" or "Hurry Up, Brother". But, before the official name changed, ZRTG had registered "跑男" as a trademark with the SAIC.[5]

Episode style

撕名牌 or "Nametag Elimination" is one of the highlights of each episode and is usually the longest game. There are also many games played by the MCs and guests that often contribute to their result for the final mission.

The team that wins the final mission will receive a prize, usually related with the theme for the episode. However, even if a team wins most of the games, victory is not guaranteed (for example in Season 1 Episode 2, Deng Chao and Guli Nazha did not win many games but the other teams who had won did not make the right choices of switching the waters, therefore causing their team to win).

Personnel

Cast

The original members of Running Man are Deng Chao, Li Chen, Chen He, Zheng Kai, Angelababy, Wong Cho-lam, and Wang Baoqiang. After season 1, Wang Baoqiang recorded his last episode and has left the program to focus on his career but returned on season 3, episode 10 as a guest. In season 2, Bao Bei'er was a replacement for Wang Baoqiang but left at the end of the season as he was cast in Stephen Chow's Journey to the West II. Singer Luhan then replaced Bao Bei'er from season 3 onwards. In season 5, Dilraba Dilmurat replaced Angelababy, who left the show "temporarily" to take care of her baby. From the 8th episode onwards, Angelababy returned to the show and since then there have been 8 cast members.

Wang Baoqiang

Bao-Lam Brothers
Because the two are of similar height, they were close to each other from the beginning of the series.

Cuckoo Couple

White and Green Snake sisters

Inspired by the Monday Couple on SBS Running Man, the two became known as the Friday Couple. Whenever there are no teams, they ally, the others mostly assuming that Zheng Kai is protecting her from punishments. After Angelababy got married, the pair has developed into a 'sisterhood'.
Zheng Kai
Wang Baoqiang
Zheng-Wang Combination During Episode 4, they formed a team to manufacture a cardboard boat. The surnames of Zheng Kai and Wang Baoqiang were combined to create the team name. The name was a homophonic pun of "zhen-wang" (perished) and they were made fun of, especially after theirs became the only boat that sank. The relationship name appears in Episode 9. In Episode 10 of the 3rd season, the group appears again, now with Wong Cho-lam and a different name: "bao-zheng-bu-wang" (guaranteed not to perish).
Deng Chao
Chen He
Chao He Union
Sky Ba Move Ba Tua
In Episode 10, the two had fun acting as dummies and the subtitles referred to them as the dummy brothers. In Episode 4 of the 3rd season, they grouped again and create their catchphrase, Sky Ba Move Ba Tua (in pinyin, "tian-ba-dong-ba-tua"). In one episode, "pao" was tacked on to the end for Luhan, because it meant "deer" and so did "lu". This slogan later appears several times in the latter episodes of the show.
Li Chen
Chen He
Mother and Child
Chen-He Combination
Li-Chen Combination
Since the fight before Episode 4, Chen He often succumbed to the rules set by Li Chen. Though he occasionally disobeys him, he still follows obediently along to Li Chen's instructions. Li Chen comes help Chen He a lot, even though he tends to "betray" Li Chen a lot, ripping off his name tag and such.
Lu Han
Zheng Kai
Leopard Deer Combination In Episode 5 of Season Three, the two were in the same team. Lu Han's nickname is little deer (鹿, or Lu, is his surname and can also mean deer) and Zheng Kai's nickname is leopard (because of his speed), ergo "Leopard Deer".
Deng Chao
Luhan
Father and Son At the beginning of season 4, Deng Chao asked if he was allowed to help his son in the game they were playing. Ever since then, Luhan has called Deng Chao his father many times and vice versa (in and outside of the show). This might be partially because Luhan is the second youngest and Deng Chao the second oldest of the cast.
Angelababy
Luhan
Siblings
Brother and Sister
Throughout seasons 3 and 4, Angelababy and Luhan sometimes paired up together and would not betray each other, even referring to themselves as siblings in an episode. As a team, they managed to rip the name tag off of Blackie Chen in season 4 Episode 1, who is very strong, which shocked and impressed everyone. In the season 4 finale, Angelababy was sad he was eliminated because she would have protected him until the end.
Diliraba Dilmurat
Luhan
Lu-Di Combination Since Angelababy went on a temporary hiatus post-pregnancy and Diliraba Dilmurat joined the cast. Luhan and Diliraba are paired together in many episodes.
Diliraba Dilmurat
Angelababy
Attractive Sisters After Angelababy returned from her hiatus as a special guest to signify her return on season 5 episode 8, she was temporarily paired up with Diliraba, to jokingly spite the rest of the male members for being unattractive and being unwelcoming.
Chen He
Dilraba Dilmurat
Ba-He Combination Ever since the beginning of the show, Chen He has been known to be the member that eats the most. Also, since Dilraba arrived on the show, she has known to always be eating throughout the episodes, and always pulling out junk food from random places. In episode 9 of season 5, they, along with Li Chen, were paired up by chance to eat seafood. Surprisingly, although they did not have the most people in their group, they finished the most food within the given time.

List of episodes

If more than one set of teams are used other than the Race Mission teams, they are divided and distinguished to the corresponding mission under Teams. Team members are listed in alphabetical order from Team Leader to Members, to Guests. As some episodes consisted of road missions and were not confined to a single landmark nor was a landmark officially recognized on-air, the landmark shown for those episodes is the final mission venue.
