Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated is the eleventh incarnation of Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo series of Saturday morning cartoons. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and is a reboot of the franchise.

This series is aimed at a somewhat older audience than other recent entries to the franchise, featuring a more suspenseful tone emphasizing "spookyness" and more detailed drawings and backgrounds, as well as more dramatic, dynamic lighting and camera angles (sometimes enhanced with CGI). The characters are now more fleshed-out, and more is learned about their individual lives. There is also a more prominent romantic element. The humor, too, is often more mature and self-referential than that of any previous series.

It is the first series in the franchise with Shaggy voiced by Matthew Lillard, who portrayed the character in two live-action films, Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004). Casey Kasem (the original Shaggy) remains present in this series by voicing Shaggy's father. Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated premiered on Cartoon Network on July 12, 2010 and airs new episodes every Monday at 7 pm ET (11 pm UTC). A special sneak peek episode, which also serves as the pilot, was aired on April 5, 2010. The series will make its UK premiere on Boomerang in October.

Plot

Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers and Scooby-Doo make up the team of teenage mystery solving sleuths who live in a small town called Crystal Cove. The older generation and parents use the town's long history of ghost and monster sightings to bring in tourists out of greed, which leads to conflicts between the gang and their elders.

While solving mysteries, the gang must deal with a mysterious character, who is not yet revealed as friend or foe, named "Mr. E" (a play on 'mystery'). He gives the gang cryptic hints and clues revolving around the disappearance of four similar teenage sleuths who called themselves "Mystery Incorporated".

Aside from the main story, the show also focuses much of the attention on Velma and Shaggy's relationship as well between Fred and Daphne, although Velma and Shaggy are currently the only ones actually dating. This series marks the first time there has ever been a romantic relationship between the two characters.

Episodes

Crossover

According to voice director Andrea Romano, a crossover between Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated and Batman: The Brave and the Bold is in the works. It is believed to be based on the original Batman/Scooby Doo crossovers that occurred in The New Scooby-Doo Movies.

Episodic online video game

Cartoon Network released an episodic video game on their website called Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated Crystal Cove Online, which will have a new mystery every week based on the aired episode.[1] The player takes control of Shaggy and Scooby as they explore Crystal Cove, solving mysteries and helping other citizens with the rest of the gang. There are 26 pedestals for each monster, indicating the series' initially-planned 26 episodes. This amount was confirmed at Comic Con 2010.

Within the show there have been numerous references to Pop Culture as well as older Scooby Doo and other Hanna-Barbera series.

Beware The Beast from Below
  • The unmasked villain Professor Emmanuel Raffalo was supposedly inspired by the horror host Mr. Lobo.[2][3]
  • One of the tourist on the Crystal Cove Haunted Tour, resembles Don Knotts who appeared multiple of times in The New Scooby Doo Movies.
  • Of the monsters on the tour, the outfits for the Space Kook, Miner 49'ner, Charlie the Haunted Robot, a Giggling Green Ghost, Creeper, and the Ghost of Captain Cutler were monsters from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! with Velma explaining the true backgrounds of them before her parents intervene. The Luna Ghost which appeared at the beginning of Scooby-Doo can also be spotted.

The Creeping Creatures
  • The tourist family driving down Gatorsburg in the beginning of the episode are inspired by the Griswolds of the National Lampoon's Vacation series of comedy films. The father strongly resembles Clark Griswold in appearance and ineptitude, and he drives a similar station wagon.
  • While staying at the Drowsy Gator Fred shows Daphne a scrapbook which is filled with different traps. He mentions how they used them to capture The Phantom from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! Episode A Hassle in the Castle, And Big Bob Oakley (Gypsy who disguised himself as The Wolfman, a Vampire, and Frankenstein) From Episode A Gaggle Of Galloping Ghosts, though they didn't use a trap to capture him in that episode. In the Gatorsburg flashback, you can see Nugget Nose from the Buford and the Galloping Ghost show, as the one who strikes gator instead of gold in gatorsburg.
Revenge of the Man Crab
The Legend of Alice May
  • Alice claims to be the daughter of Mr. Carlswell/The Creeper from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!. Part of "Jeepers it's the Creeper" is shown in a flashback. Oddly, the Mystery Inc. team do not look any younger in the flashback, while Alice has a flashback of her father being taken into custody while she is a small child.
  • Throughout the episode there were references to Vincent Van Ghoul, a recurring character in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.
In Fear of the Phantom
  • The featured band of the episode, The Hex Girls were original characters of the Scooby Doo Direct-to-DVD series of movies such as Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost and Scooby-Doo and the Legend of the Vampire. They also made guest appearances on What's New, Scooby Doo?. To fit in with the new series animation style their appearence has been altered. These alterations range from minor to radical. Thorn is the least changed. She still has long, red and black hair. Her outfit now incorporates white and has a shorter skirt. Luna's outfit is a flowing gown with more of a Victorian influence. Her hair is longer and slightly spikier and is now white instead of orange. Dusk's appearance is by far the most changed. Her pig-tails are bigger and have red highlights. Her whole outfit has been completely redesigned. It now has a more punk rock feel and is no longer green. Also Daphne briefly join their band, under the stage-name "Crush".
  • Also in the episode Vincent Van Ghoul appears in a monster movie Shaggy & Scooby are watching (according to Shaggy, he & Scooby are fans of Vincent Van Ghouls movies. In the movie, he reveals he has the head of a lizard monster to his girlfriend in response to her claim she would love no matter what. Repulsed by his lizard face she flees in terror with Vincent chasing after her in typical monster movie form.
  • The video web site Shaggy and Scooby were watching Fantzee Pantz's video on was called Ear Tube, which is an obvious parody of YouTube.
  • The way Fantzee Pantz was dancing was similar to Michael Jackson's Moonwalk.
