List of episodes

The seventeenth season of The Bachelor premiered on January 7, 2013.[1] This season features 29-year-old Sean Lowe, a former Kansas State football player from Irving, Texas.[2] Lowe placed third as a contestant during the eighth season of The Bachelorette with Emily Maynard. The season concluded on March 11, 2013 in which Catherine Giudici was named the winner and eventually became his wife. Lowe and Giudici are currently living in Dallas, Texas with their two sons, Isaiah and Samuel, and daughter, Mia.

Filming and development

Casting

Casting began during the airing of the sixteenth season of the show. First "The Bachelor" approached Tim Tebow, then-quarterback of the Denver Broncos; but he never signed an agreement.[3] Lamar Hurd, a sportscaster from Portland, Oregon, had been another potential candidate, vying to become the first African-American "Bachelor."[4] Other rumored possible candidates included The Bachelorette season 6 winner Roberto Martinez, Lowe's fellow The Bachelorette castmate Arie Luyendyk, Jr. (runner-up from Maynard's season), and eleven-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte.[5] Luyendyk dropped out to focus on his racing career. Martinez and Lochte also declined.[6][7] Luyendyk would go on to become the star of The Bachelor five seasons later.

Production

This season traveled many places including Montana, the Canadian province of Alberta, St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands and Thailand. Appearances including Ben Taylor, Eli Young Band and Sarah Darling.[8]

Contestants

This season has been the first time the official website listed 24 new contestants along with one contestant from Bachelor Pad who joined the others, for a total of 25 suitors. In addition to the 25 new contestants, the premier revealed one mystery woman, bringing the total to 26.[9][10]

  1. ^ In episode 3, during the start of rose ceremony, Kacie was eliminated before the call-out is going to start. Desiree was shown to be the last to receive a rose, but she is clearly holding one in the background while Selma and Sarah receive theirs during the rose ceremony. Therefore she must have been higher in the call-out order and was shown last through editing.
  2. ^ Kacie was eliminated by Sean before the start of rose ceremony.
