Hello Bri, I'm requesting a message to be sent out to all members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia Awards/Participants about to my proposal: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Wikipedia_Awards#Splitting_topical_barnstars, thank you. Jerm (talk) 02:03, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Jerm: Not sure this is the right way to go forward with your proposal. Have you considered formatting an RfC and publicizing it through the means discussed here? Or other alternatives given at WP:Publicizing discussions? ☆ Bri (talk) 20:05, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
- Bri I didn't use RfC because it's a split proposal which RfC isn't supposed to be used for per WP:RFCNOT. Jerm (talk) 20:10, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, I've sent notifications to related WikiProjects. Jerm (talk) 21:05, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Inclusion in Signpost News and notes
Hello Bri, I just wanted to thank you for including my article on netzpolitik.org in the newest Signpost issue. I was hoping to be informative to the larger Wikipedia community, and for that I can't imagine a better way than to be included in the Signpost. You might also be interested in a few more Belarussian articles that have since been published on the topic: 1, 2 and 3. All the best, Zarasophos (talk) 15:56, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Awesome, I didn't make the connection between the article author and the WP account name (though now I notice your domain posted at netzpolitik). It's good to say hello – did we perhaps meet in person at the Berlin Wikiconference in 2017? ☆ Bri (talk) 17:24, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Probably not, since I only started editing Wikipedia in 2018 and have only lived in Berlin briefly in summer 2019. But yes, indeed, good to say hello! I always read the Signpost anyway, but please feel free to let me know if there's any matter you think could profit from my attention. You know where you can find my mail.
- And while I have your attention, let me quickly draw it toward a good old case of what I suspect to be COI editing at Kakuzi Limited, in itself rather limited but interesting, I think, because of the real-life backstory. @Smallbones: might also be interested - Zarasophos (talk) 23:01, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

- I've had some IRL good news, and other stuff, and have been using challenges to build up Wikipedia motivation again, so I didn't do as much in the collab this year as I would've liked (and didn't prioritise the DYK nom, despite wanting to get it through), but watching your dedicated updates has kept my faith in the project alive! - @Kingsif: I really appreciate this recognition. Every year working on the 420 collab has been enjoyable and I'm glad you were part of it this time around. Sadly I also feel worn down by the DYK process lately and when I feel I'm not finding joy in an aspect of this volunteer activity I feel it's time to back off. The moving goalposts that resulted in five (!) proposed hooks and finally a demand to re-source the thing have just been unreasonable IMHO. ☆ Bri (talk) 04:02, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- Ha, though I can't say five hooks seems excessive for me (I nommed this today), I agree that the change this, then that, then... response was not the productive kind of DYK review I'd like to see. Kingsif (talk) 04:07, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello Bri, one editor is paid editor writing about a movie and asking to hurry and review the entry because his client needs it due to upcoming premiere while his friend edit immediately after him and the first thing he do is asking to be a reviewer — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:14F:83:85E5:0:0:0:1 (talk) 13:32, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- The creator of the draft has properly declared a COI here and here. I'll keep an eye on the draft but it's hard to make a presumption of COI stick in the case of any reviewers. Also the second editor you referenced has been around here for about as long as I have, they don't look like they are likely to be also paid. I'm not sure what makes you think they are connected to the creator? ☆ Bri (talk) 14:47, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not saying that he is probaly get paid (although this could be the case), but I'm arguying: 1. There is curcumstancial evidence that he asked reviewing permission for this reason. 2. There is a highly probability that they know each other, this a prevalence practice in the Hebrew Wiki and in Israel altogether: "please help I need a favor" (maybe in the social media) and this is a good human practice, but a bad wikipedia one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:14F:1FE:BA90:0:0:5301:D77F (talk) 15:35, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah I'm not going to go further with this; "they both probably speak Hebrew" is kind of an offensive thing to bring up as an accusation. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:00, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- This I didn't say and didn't mean. The movie deserve an entry and its written reasonably, but I'm guessing now Tomer is going to approve all the drafts of his colleagues from Hebrew Wiki, regardless their quality. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:14F:81:B817:0:0:0:1 (talk) 19:45, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello Bri,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 807 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 851 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

DateCountdown
Hi Bri - I know you're on wikibreak, so no rush. Is there any reason why User:Bri/DateCountdown is hard-coded to use 23:49 as the time? Also, would you be opposed to changing the link on there to use ZoneStamp (OSS, hosted on Toolforge)? It uses Unix timestamps and I think this would work to generate a link: [[toolforge:zonestamp/Error: Invalid time.]]. Cheers! 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 20:02, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- @EpicPupper: All I can tell you is that the editor who did extensive rewriting of the logic in that template left a terse comment when they added a link to an off-site time zone calculator with the 23:49 time included in the URL [1]. I suppose it didn't handle 00:00 correctly or it was ambiguous? I should note that that editor has not been interested in maintaining a relationship with The Signpost. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:49, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Bri: Noting that Headbomb has expressed their wish to continue working with The Signpost. Thank you for the information. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 17:25, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

Solaris current location
Would photos of Solaris moored in Yalikavak marina be of use? 88.248.180.214 (talk) 04:52, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yes please upload to commons.wikimwdia.org, and the photo can be added to the article. But as for actually adding the location to the article text, that would probably be considered original research based on the photo alone.
- Please note that reliable sources don't have to be online, only verifiable. So a notice in local media is OK even if print only. A harbormaster log should be acceptable as well. The source is less likely to be scrutinized or challenged for an uncontroversial statement such as moorage location. ☆ Bri (talk) 14:23, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Extended content
|
---|
Hello Bri,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May. Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b] In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month). While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
There is a new template available, Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 11628 articles, as of 02:00, 7 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022
Hello Bri,
- Backlog status
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.
- Coordination
- MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
- Open letter to the WMF
- The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
- TIP - Reviewing by subject
- Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
- New reviewers
- The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

someone add ecuador ,no confrmation by the miss earth page Gerspedia (talk) 07:04, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks Gerspedia for the heads-up. For this and the other issue it's probably best to make a note on the article's talkpage, so everyone can see it. I will see the notes if they are on my watchlist, which includes Miss Earth 2022.
- By the way the
editoraccount that made that change was blocked as a sock. That seems to happen a lot in pageant pages. ☆ Bri (talk) 17:16, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

I seem to be affected by a rangeblock or something ... at a free wifi location where I was hoping to help put The Signpost to bed today. ☆ Bri (talk) 22:07, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
tag from Miss World Panamá 2022, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}}
back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! 221.148.188.81 (talk) 04:54, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
Enhancing date-template parameters
I've written a sandbox version of {{Days Left}}
that will accept a full date string in the unnamed parameter, instead of requiring separated parameters.
I'd like to teach your {{User:Bri/DateCountdown}}
and {{User:Bri/Days Left Percent}}
templates to handle date strings as well. (Fortunately {{age in days}}
, which Days Left Percent uses, already supports them, so that makes it a lot simpler.) Once that's done, I can get rid of the separated values in {{Signpost/Deadline/core}}
completely and just pass around YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM strings where needed.
Would you prefer I copy the templates somewhere else to update, and change what's called by {{Signpost/Deadline/core}}
? Do you care if I just edit the code here in your userspace? I can provide updated code as Talk page messages for you to [review and possibly] apply, if that works better for you? FeRDNYC (talk) 06:36, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
Google News Or Bing News
Hey Sir Help me. How many Google news article and bing news article are enough and helpfull for new article creation on Wikipedia. Bijender dutta (talk) 01:09, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- Three is generally regarded the minimum number of reliable sources.[a] The page Help:Your first article can help answer how to find good sources, and how to get started. ☆ Bri (talk) 01:13, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

Thank You Bri Last Question
Google News Or Bing News is a reliable source Yes or No? Basically i am user of google news app and somestimes breaking news from google news notifications comes in my phone. For more information on topic i comes here on wikipedia but no page i found on wikipedia thats the reason why i am asking you about Google News Or Bing News.and then can i create new article on those notifications who comes in my phone through Google News Or Bing News. Bijender dutta (talk) 21:18, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- "Sometimes" reliable. Depends on what they are quoting, and what it's used for. They usually keep the really bad news sources out, but you have to use some discretion. If you're not sure, a good first thing to check is the source's status at WP:RSPS.
- One thing to keep in news is WP:NOTNEWS. Wikipedia doesn't need to be totally up-to-date with news, and it's probably better when it isn't. Just waiting at least a couple of days to let more reliable sources build up might be a better decision than jumping into a new article to keep up with breaking news. ☆ Bri (talk) 01:27, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you Bri I am confused but i understand. Thank you for your guidance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bijender dutta (talk • contribs) 03:33, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
Hey, Bri! Ladsgroup told me to ask you about this: Is it ready for a copyedit? Because it honestly looks done, and I'm happy to knock off another article to ready for our good EiC. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.2% of all FPs. Currently celebrating his 600th FP! 05:55, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Well, that was quick. I made some mild edits - As you may know, I actually have an old account that hasn't edited since 2010, and another from a couple years before that when a harassment campaign made me switch to a pseudonym for a while, and we don't have a lot of the tools we had back then. Hell, back then your Commons login was different from your English Wikipedia login, although I think I was one of the last holdouts for keeping my Commons and En-wiki accounts seperate during the pseudonym-on-en-wiki period, because my Commons account has been consistent. I'm sure one could at least have a decent chance of finding those old accounts of mine with such analysis, but they're not exactly sockpuppets, since I didn't use both and - well, I don't imagine that many people remember it now after 12 years, but it used to be a pretty open secret. - We have a very high standard for sources in Biographies of living persons. The sites you added, distractify.com and starsunfolded.com, didn't seem to meet that standard. The latter site is listed as "generally unreliable" at WP:RSPS, in fact. Also, the formatting was irregular; it could have been fixed but just undoing your edit was my choice because of the first issue. ☆ Bri (talk) 22:12, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for reaching out previously about the SignPost article. I realize I'm a little past the deadline, but I was able to get something drafted.
