Sneaky suspicion

Do you mind a look at the SOP investigation I just created: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Likelovewiki, and see whether they remind you of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Accostapp/Archive#23_December_2016? I vaguely remember that Zhanglei guy before his ban creating many similarly ungrammatical/Linkedin-esque articles about Chinese tech companies/entrepreneurs, but as they have been mostly deleted I can't be sure. Thanks Timmyshin (talk) 14:27, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Timmyshin, The two you've identified I would agree with. I also note their user pages have the appearance of shared authorship.
As for an overlap with Accostapp...
  • The dates kind of fit together, suggesting the two groups may be one;
  • The last checkuser on the Accostapp case was on 3 Nov, so another CU would likely be fruitful;
  • There's no overlap in edit-titles or usernames which, given that Zhanglei1122 fell into that tell-tale as late as 23 Dec suggests they may well be two separate groups.
  • The grammatical flaws and the choice of edit topic doesn't seem way out-of-the-norm for a country of 1.2bn people.
All-in-all, I'm as much in two minds on the matter as you are. Given the 10 weeks since the last CU and the profusion of socks revealed last time round, I think another CU would be useful. Sorry I can't offer anything more concrete. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 15:48, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Accostapp used to like linking to the apps' download links on Google Play and the App Store, something missing from Toutiao. Cabayi (talk) 15:52, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks a lot for your input. Grammar flaws from China are unsurprising, but I'm very suspicious of users who only WP:PROMOTE non-notable Chinese companies/individuals, especially when the companies aren't even in the same business. But I think you are probably right, we'll see what the CU says. Thanks again. Timmyshin (talk) 16:08, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Hi, I'm DrStrauss. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Zooper Dooper, and have un-reviewed it again. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you. DrStrauss talk 10:53, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

DrStrauss Thanks. Strange that you couldn't identify the subject, a quick google suggested a redirect to Ice pop would have been appropriate, but it was deleted before I could do that.
Is there any reason for the double headers and double signature to your message?
Please remember to let the author know on their talk page that you've nominated their article for deletion. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 11:13, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Cabayi,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 803 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Cardfight!! Vanguard articles deletion

Hello, Cabayi

I realized I saw your proposed deletion thing on Cardfight!! Vanguard G: GIRS Crisis, but there other articles and pictures made by Acodomy. Here's a run-down.

File:Official_Title_poster_of_Asia_Circuit_Cast_(Season_2).jpg File:Official_dvd_cover_of_Cardfight!!_Vanguard_Season_3.jpg File:Cardfight!!_Vanguard_Legion_Mate_(BOX_1)jpg.jpg File:Cardfight!!_Vanguard_G_official_promotional_poster.png File:Poster_for_Cardfight_Vanguard_G,_Stride_Gate.jpg File:Official_Poster_of_Cardfight!!_Vanguard_G_NEXT.png File:Title_of_Cardfight!!_Vanguard_G_GIRS_Crisis.png

I hope you'll take care of this. Landingdude13 (talk) 03:11, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

The first one I tagged because it was sourced solely by a fancruft website, http://cardfight.wikia.com/wiki/Cardfight!!_Vanguard_G:_GIRS_Crisis - it's possible the rest were copied from there too. If you feel there's a problem, please tag them for deletion. I don't want to make this a personal vendetta between me and Acodomy - it should just be a matter of wikipedia's editors enforcing the policies and standards. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 09:26, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
Landingdude13, the article I PRODed has been given more credible sources, and cleaned up a bit. It was then claimed for a project by an IP who looks to have a good track history in project tagging new articles. I'm now inclined to let it be. It's not an article I'd willingly volunteer time to work on, but it's not one that needs to be removed for the good name of the wiki either. My 2¢ without any prejudice to how you choose to respond to them. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 21:10, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Ali khaliqi

Hi. sorry You deleted the page that I made for my ex-professor. that was not a ads page it was only troduction of him who is artist of large scale carpets in the world. his name is in sheikh zayed wiki pages and website and all other pages. I was his student and have mission to do sth for him even if he is so much busy to dont have think about these things. he made revolutionary in handmade carpet design and art. so please if you don't mind and can turn the page back, I will be so much thankful (Kobi41 (talk) 14:39, 14 February 2017 (UTC))

Pubs

Not by the definition of Commercial building and not in Retail or Convenience store either. Pubs are a type of restaurant, which is not commercial building. Thanks Hmains (talk) 18:48, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Hmains, If you can come up with another category to cover the, um, "building"-ness of a pub, I might not disagree. But without the building component, the category could just as easily encompass a beer tent. An outright removal seems to strip the Pub category of a whole aspect of its definition.
The mismatch between the removal and the edit summary "category create" didn't inspire confidence in the change either. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 19:23, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Hmains, Wow, that's deeply nested. Go for it, with my apologies for not researching deeper... about another 4 levels deeper. Cabayi (talk) 19:36, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks Hmains (talk) 19:38, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Hmains, That leaves the puzzle, where would a beer tent fit? It's a drinking establishment, but not a building. I'll go have a beer and ponder that one. enough wiki-ing for one evening. Cabayi (talk) 19:40, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
I tried and found: Beer tent redirects to Tent, which has a category of Category:Portable buildings and shelters, which is a subcat of Category:Buildings and structures by type. Hmains (talk) 19:45, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
Hmains, It seems odd, if not perverse, to categorise the pub solely in the context of its use, and the beer tent solely in the context of its structure. Beer tent's redirect isn't entirely satisfactory. Cabayi (talk) 21:30, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
I am just saying what it is, not justifying it. The article redirect presumably because there is not enough content to create a beer tent article; that is up to article writers. The categories would be none if there are not enough specific beer tent articles to create a category for them. I have not read the articles to check on the truth of this. Hmains (talk) 21:38, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Ustinov Artur

Good day! What's wrong with my article? I posted the article because it is a well-known person who has put Vlad in the development of the case of Carl Faberge in Russia. I demand you leave my article! I pay a donation to Wikipedia when you ask for money. I pay. Please take this into account, to be adequately to my article. Комичева Анна — Preceding unsigned comment added by Комичева Анна (talkcontribs) 12:18, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

  • There's very little wrong with the article. However there's nothing notable about Artur Ustinov - he doesn't merit an article.
  • "I pay a donation to Wikipedia", thanks! I volunteer my time and effort to Wikipedia to build an encyclopedia, not to publicise no marks, or to provide a trade directory for lawyers.
  • If he is, as you say, a well known person, why did you not show that in the article?
  • Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Artur Ustinov is the place to make your argument for keeping the article, not here. Cabayi (talk) 12:28, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Good afternoon! On what basis is blocked article Ustinov Artur? You make mistakes. If you continue to do this action, I will complain of you. This is a decent man. Anastasia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.162.65.42 (talkcontribs) 06:44, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

Комичева Анна,
  • The article isn't blocked. Nor are you.
  • Yes, I make mistakes. Nominating this article for deletion is not one of them.
  • Feel free to complain. WP:ANI is the place to do it.
  • The decency of Artur Ustinov is not in question. His notability, and the failure of your article to show any notability, is in question.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 803 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.

Back4App recreation

Hi, I just noticed that you deleted the stub article Back4App that I just published. This is quite shocking to me because I do not understand the real motive behind it: "G5: Created by a banned or blocked user (Highstakes00) in violation of ban or block (TW)" What do I have to do with this editor? Although your motivation may be noble, I really do not deserve to be a collateral damage of this operation. Please take a second and closer look at this article and restore it. I would appreciate your cooperation given this WP advice: "Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djukicivan1 (talkcontribs) 15:21, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

The entire point to the sockpuppet investigation is that I don't believe you are a newcomer. You are not "collateral damage". Cabayi (talk) 15:53, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Cabayi,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am afraid that there appears to be a misunderstanding here. In my humble opinion, my recreating the Back4App article does not make me de facto guilty by association. In fairness, I deserve the benefit of doubt as long as Check User has cleared me entirely of any wrong doing. Please check the other page to see for yourself the Check User investigation results. Therefore, I would very much appreciate that you reconsider your position and restore this stub article as my modest contribution to Wikipedia. I am confident in a reasonable outcome of this situation. Thank you for your cooperation.Djukicivan1 (talk) 11:29, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

Djukicivan1, if you want to retrieve the article you'll need to ask the admin who deleted it, Amortias.
I'm sorry that you've had the misfortune to be the subject of a sockpuppet investigation. Your pattern of editing, a new user with a number of trivial edits, waiting several days, then the recreation of a previously deleted advert is typically a strong indicator of a spammer returning under a different name. Nor did your knowledge of wikipedia's processes give any reassurance that you were a newcomer.
Be aware that the article, if restored to mainspace, draftspace, or your userspace, still needs to satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for notability and not being an advert, the problems which led to its first deletion. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 12:54, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

AfDs

While I disagree with your AfD nominations of Fiera Capital Corporation, Mudrick Capital Management, and Black Diamond Capital Management, I do appreciate you taking them to AfD as opposed to PRODding them. Help with possible article spamming

Hi, since you helped me with the warning levels, i'll take this to you (yay, more work): User:Simongraham's activity raised an eyebrow or two. Q: Is creating boatloads of stubs about spiders considered unwanted behaviour and if yes, how do i deal with that? Thanks in advance! MikeTango (talk) 09:08, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

MikeTango, in short, no. If, hypothetically, Simongraham was the owner of Simon Graham's Jumping Spiders Inc, and their website offered to sell you a bucket of jumping spiders to eradicate the greenfly or aphids in your garden, that would be a spam problem. These articles are just a straight-up record of species about which there's little to be said. What little there is to be said is said quite neatly and succinctly.
The only improvements I could conceive (and this is if I dial the pedantry all the way up to eleven, and using Menemerus plenus as the example) are:
You can take it from the fact that Simon has been granted autopatrolled that he knows what's required. Indeed, documenting something as unglamorous as jumping spiders, he deserves our admiration for his dedication a neglected part of the wiki. Cabayi (talk) 10:26, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
@Cabayi: Thanks. I was not sure about the notability etc. of hundreds of spiders from africa. I'm still learning the patterns of recent changes. MikeTango (talk) 10:33, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Deletion of S. N. Sadasivan

Hello, S.N. Sadasivan, that I created was tagged for speedy deletion as it was found to be a direct copy of a biographical article. after it was tagged and informed to me, I had thoroughly reviewed the article and rewritten with all available references. I presume that the article was deleted earlier on the grounds of notability. I would like to challenge if that is the same reason for its deletion for the second time as well. --Challiyan (talk) 17:08, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Challiyan, you've answered your own question, it "was tagged for speedy deletion as it was found to be a direct copy of a biographical article". I'm not an admin so I can't see it now it's been deleted. As the article's foundation was a copyright violation you're unlikely to get it restored. If you really want the article back you'll have to start over, but be sure to do it in your own words. Cabayi (talk) 18:47, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

I am sorry, that I took you for an admin. I spend quite some time on it for the overhaul. Thanks anyways for the suggestion. --Challiyan (talk) 20:19, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Concerning Selux

I have declined the speedy deletion: the article is not purely promotional, and having contributed to the 9/11 memorial museum is enough to prevent an A7. If you think this is not notable, please use WP:AFD. Regards. Lectonar (talk) 13:10, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Lectonar, thanks for the heads-up. As a COI, self-sourced, promotional article from an SPA, which doesn't even make it clear what they contributed to the 9/11 museum (aside from the WP:INHERIT issues), I'll be taking it to AfD. Cheers, Cabayi (talk) 13:18, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Scepter Publishers

Hi. May I get please access to the content that was deleted? It was not my intention to run afoul of Wikipedia guidelines. I was trying to tell the Scepter story, which is notable. The organization was founded by Venerable St. Joseph Muzquiz to publish many important works in the history of the Catholic Church. He was personally sent by St. Josemaria Escriva to the United States. These facts were referenced in my footnotes with the original articles of incorporation in Chicago in 1952. And the reference "Putting Down Roots" by John Coverdale.

I had contested the Speedy Deletion, had removed all the offending link,s and was in the process of rewriting the page in a more encyclopedic style it when it was deleted. I think this is an important story. There are many references to Scepter Publishers, Scepter Publications, Scepter Publishing on numerous Wikipedia pages. The correct name is 'Scepter Publishers' or merely 'Scepter'.

I would like to update the incorrect links.

When I initiate the rewrite I will disclose my affiliation and potential conflict of interest, ask a 3rd party editor for help, and follow the Wizard to make sure it's done in a collaborative manner. Without links. The important thing is the content. Even if it's only a stub. There are many incorrect links on Wikipedia that need to be updated.

I see that the first step is to appeal to you. And then a third party. And then a dispute resolution. You can rest assured that I was, and continue to do my best, to provide useful content for Wikipedia readers.

Thank you! LesTP 15:10, 8 April 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by LesTP (talkcontribs)

syntactic noise--declined A11

Hi, Cabayi, I've declined your A11 speedy deletion request on syntactic noise. The term might not be notable, but it was not made up yesterday, in either a literal or figurative sense: a Google search shows that it's been used since 2008-2010, and it's a fairly straightforward analogue to the (older) real term syntactic sugar. Thus, the A11 tag doesn't apply. When doing CSD tagging, it's usually a good idea to at least do a Google search before deciding to tag things like this. Thanks, Writ Keeper  19:24, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Writ Keeper, I checked the source used for syntactic sugar & drew a blank. I didn't consider a wider Google search. Point taken. Cabayi (talk) 19:36, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
Haha, okay, that's fair. I didn't find anything in the way of reliable sources either, just enough to see that it goes back a bit. Carry on. :) Writ Keeper  19:38, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Birch Grove Software

Hello Cabayi. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Birch Grove Software, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: significance asserted, not exclusively promotional. G4 cannot be applied since the previous article was about the product, not the company. Thank you. SoWhy 13:07, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

SoWhy, the fact that the sources in the new article have access dates matching the dates of the previous article's existence doesn't fill me with warm & fuzzy feelings of confidence that the new article is any more than a re-run of the previous article under a different title to get around G4. Can you reassure me please? Cabayi (talk) 13:55, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
The previous article was about "ActivTrak", a software created by this company. The new article is about the company and features ActivTrak prominently, so G4 can't be applied since company and software are different subjects. That said, I have no opinion on the notability of the company itself, the article just does not meet A7, G11 or G4, which is all I checked. The new article might survive AfD though for the reasons mentioned at WP:NPRODUCT and WP:ATD-M. But I leave this for you to decide whether you want to take it there. Regards SoWhy 14:02, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
SoWhy, Thanks for the reply. I'll wait for the SPI to conclude before deciding on any further action. Cabayi (talk) 17:15, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

I salted it at the autoconfirmed level for 6 months, I think that should be sufficient. Please let me know if it needs to be raised/increased. Legoktm (talk) 07:53, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Request not to Speedy Deletion : Sudhir Kumar Mishra

Hello Cabayi. I have re-created a new page for Sudhir Kumar Mishra following all norms. I hope this time the page is not being deleted without any reason. Last time by mistake I created a new page instead of editing the previous page. So my page was sent for speedy deletion. Please guide me if there is some scope of improvement, instead of deleting the page. That will be very helpful for me. I have created this page for Dr Sudhir Kumar Mishra, the new CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace, who has significantly contributed in the indigenisation of BRAHMOS missile. And I have given all possible references about this page. Regards Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sudhirmishraji (talkcontribs) 05:14, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Sudhirmishraji, you've already been advised not to write your autobiography. I have nothing to add to that advice. Cabayi (talk) 07:34, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Dear Cabayi, I have already mentioned to all other mods, I am not the same person for whom I am making the page. I am just an employee of BRAHMOS Aerospace, and very new to wikipedia. I was trying to create a page for Sudhir Kumar Mishra, CEO & MD BrahMos Aerospace, While creating the wiki account to draft this page, I thought the username should be same as the page title. so I used the username- Sudhirmishraji, even my mail address name can justify that. Anyway, better I should change the user name. Is there any way to change the username? Once again thanks for your suggestions. Or better I create a new account with my real username? Sudhirmishraji (talk) 08:23, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

‎Template:Infobox Swiss town/sandbox2/testcases

You removed the CSD tags on Template:Infobox Swiss town/sandbox2/testcases on the basis that it's a subpage of Template:Infobox Swiss town. It's a subpage of, and dependent on, Template:Infobox Swiss town/sandbox2 which has been deleted. It's a copy of Template:Infobox Swiss town/testcases which was reworked to use sandbox2 and, now that sandbox2 has been deleted, serves no purpose. I hope you'll reconsider. Cabayi (talk) 12:03, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

No. It's ultimately a subpage of an extant template, so it does not qualify. Nyttend (talk) 12:06, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

Nyttend, the wording of G8 is "subpages with no parent page". Template:Infobox Swiss town/sandbox2 is the parent, Template:Infobox Swiss town is the grandparent. But, if it makes you happy, I'll tag it for G6 housekeeping. Cabayi (talk) 12:22, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

Brisbane football clubs

If you've come here to query why I placed a notice about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Centenary Stormers FC on your talk page... There were 33 nominations for non-notable amateur football clubs, many dating back 10 years or more and where the original authors had long since stopped editing Wikipedia. I chose to notify anyone I noticed had edited any of these articles on multiple occasions, or more than one of the articles. Sorry if I missed you, and sorry if you didn't want to be notified. i didn't look at the substance of the edits in an effort to avoid any chance of bias. Thanks for your understanding, Cabayi (talk) 17:12, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Just an FYI on that, playing in the qualifying rounds confers notability just as much as playing in the first round and beyond – any English club that plays in the FA Cup qualifying rounds is eligible for an article. Cheers, Number 57 08:54, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
Number 57, Given that you're not the first to have said that, can you point me to the guideline/policy that says so. It seems a long stretch to say that a team which hasn't qualified to take part is still a participant. On the figures from the English FA Cup campaign just finished that would stretch notability from 256 teams to 763 (both numbers plus their historical predecessors). Cabayi (talk) 10:57, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
I think a better question is whether you can point me to the place where it says qualifying rounds are excluded from the concept of participation? By playing in any round of the competition, they are participating. We have articles on all clubs in England down to level 10 (see List of football clubs in England) as that's the lowest level for FA Cup participation. If you want evidence from AfDs, here are several on clubs that have never gone beyond the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup, see 1, 2, 3, 4. The AfDs are quite old, but that's because the issue has been settled for years and people very rarely try and delete the articles anymore. However, if you have any doubts about what I'm saying, you're more than welcome to ask at WT:FOOTY. Cheers, Number 57 11:34, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
Number 57, What do winners of the qualification process qualify for if it's not for the right to participate in the Cup competition? Logically participation in the qualifiers isn't participation in the cup itself. Perversion of all logic aside, I'll let it be. Thanks for the links, Cabayi (talk) 12:06, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
I think you are applying logic incorrectly – participation in any round is participation in the cup itself – the names applied to the rounds are just that – names; in the FA Cup they've changed over the years and at one stage Football League clubs played in rounds that were named qualifying rounds. Every round is a form of qualifying round – clubs from the third and fourth tier play in two rounds before Premier League and Championship teams enter. Similarly, in the Scottish Cup they change the names of the rounds quite frequently, and in 2008–09 the very first round was named the First round, with SFL teams only entering in the second round and SPL teams in the fourth. Also, there are no "winners" in the qualification rounds because they don't end in a final. Number 57 12:21, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
Number 57, OK, "winners" was a poor choice of word, perhaps "qualifiers" would have been better. I see your logic, but since it relies on using Qualifying as a meaningless name, rather than an English word which has an actual meaning, it's not a logic that is sustainable. The whole point to the wiki relies on words having meanings. Once you abandon that, what's the point? If I reserve the right to arbitrarily change the meaning of any word in this conversation to suit my needs - what's the point of the conversation? Cabayi (talk) 14:03, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this. As I said, you're welcome to bring the matter up at WT:FOOTY if you feel you have a valid point. Number 57 14:16, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: King keraun

Hello Cabayi. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of King keraun, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: not promotional language, coverage in RS indicate significance. Thank you. SoWhy 09:55, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

SoWhy I see you're putting some effort into rescuing this autobiography. I'll just draw your attention to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Keraun21 & leave it to you what you choose to do about it. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 10:13, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Well, as long as being a autobiography is not a reason for speedy deletion, it shouldn't matter who created the article if the subject itself is notable (which seems to be the case). As for the SPI, I doubt it will result in anything, looks like the previous account has been given up before the new one was created. Regards SoWhy 11:18, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Lachancehugo/sandbox

I Have created Lachancehugo sandbox on his request. Is it a problem ? --YB 12:59, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Yes YanikB, more than one problem.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 13:30, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Oups. I fixed the problem. :s --YB 13:40, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
YanikB, Moving it left a redirect which now needs to be cleaned up.
Why is Lachancehugo incapable of creating his own sandbox? It doesn't seem a good sign for his future contributions.
Looking at fr:Special:Contributions/Lachancehugo I guess he intends creating a version of fr:WD-40 (groupe), the article about his band. Please explain WP:COI to him. Advertising his band is not welcome on this wiki. Cabayi (talk) 13:53, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Hugo is a french contributor how asked me to help him to create a translation of a page on WP:en. Thx for your help. --YB 14:04, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
YanikB, It's not just the language that separates the wikis. Enwiki has far stronger policies against advertising and self-promotion than most other wikis. He's likely to be wasting his time, but it's his choice, and his time to waste. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 14:10, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
I think the band has enough fame for WP. We'll see. --YB 14:21, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
YanikB, maybe so but it's not a good sign that one of the band members has to create the article - it suggests that nobody else thinks they're notable. It's also incredibly difficult for someone that closely connected to the band to write about it in an impartial, unbiased way. Cabayi (talk) 14:27, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Maybe I shoul do the translation myself. But because I have less than 500 edits I can't use the translation tool on WP:en. Since I have more than 20 translations with the tool on WP:fr, is it possible to request permission ? --YB 14:52, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
YanikB, I'm not aware of any process to grant WP:EXTENDEDCONFIRMED except automatically when you reach the threshold of 30 day & 500 edits. Because the restriction on the use of Wikipedia:Content translation tool is based on a mis-trust of the tool and aims to prevent its use without thorough checking of its output, it seems unlikely that your self-declared level of English (en-3) would persuade an admin to grant the privilege for this purpose even if it were possible. Cabayi (talk) 15:34, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Now then I will do 150 micro-edits to get granted. I thought that WP was a single entity, it does't seem to be the case. Thanks for your kindness. --YB 16:20, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
YanikB, WP:GAME. Cabayi (talk) 16:23, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
I'm a serious condtributor. Please WP:5P4. --YB 16:52, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
YanikB, I've done nothing but treat you with courtesy and respect, offered you help, and assumed good faith, but tell me, is there any other way to interpret "Now then I will do 150 micro-edits to get granted."??? Cabayi (talk) 16:58, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Question my level of knowledge of English was unnecessary and reminding me of my error after I corrected it, as well. --YB 20:41, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
YanikB, I wasn't pointing at any error, I was pointing at YOUR declaration of your abilities on YOUR userpage. Cabayi (talk) 20:52, 27 June 2017 (UTC)
Beside, I welcome new users on WP:fr and when I see such an obvious mistake I correct it myself and send a friendly message to warn the author of his error. To make sure that the community do not believe that I try to pump up my edits, this will be my last comment here. --YB 23:17, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

South Herts Golf Club deletion

I refer to your deletion of my article on grounds of copyright. As I made very clear, the author of this entry I submitted on his behalf was also the author of a book on the same subject and as the subject was of historical significance in golfing circles. How the author of an article can be accused of copyright of his own work is beyond me. The words are not even taken from the book. The writer of this article could have produced this entry before he produced the book. If you could explain where teh copyright issue is if teh text is not taken from teh book and the author of teh article and teh book is the same person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jjsnorth (talkcontribs) 10:02, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Jjsnorth, I wouldn't care to cast the matter in terms of accusing someone. It is definitely the case however that Wikipedia is unable to accept copyright material except via the routes indicated in the message on your talk page.
The author's paraphrase of his book is still his own work (though a different piece of work than the book) and is still his copyright. He can sign it away, you can't.
Wikipedia's content is free for anyone to use in any way that they wish. At the top of the edit window it states "Work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used, and redistributed—by anyone—subject to certain terms and conditions." Is the author willing to contribute his words under those terms, and how can Wikipedia be sure unless he follows the process and explicitly says so?
Beyond the copyright issues, as I recall, the tone of the text was not impartial and encyclopedic. I suspect that the author shares your conflict of interest. Any hint of puffery or use of peacock wording would lead to the article being deemed promotional and so deleted.
It's quite likely that you're right and the club is notable but that needs to be verifiable through the use of independent, reliable sources. Relying on a book written by a member, or commissioned by the club itself, or privately published by a vanity publisher won't cut the mustard. Also, the club needs to establish its own notability - it doesn't automatically inherit notability through its association with Vardon or Ryder, though they may contribute to the clubs notability.
It's also clear that your association with the club prompts your desire to write an article about the club. It's just as clear that your passion for the club is likely to prevent you writing the dispassionate encyclopedic material that would be acceptable.
If you're determined to try again please, please take the time to read the guidelines I've linked to here, and those linked in the messages that I and others have placed on your talk page.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 22:20, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
I vaguely recall you mentioned (and forgive me if I'm wrong) the South Herts was as notable as one of the clubs which regularly hosts the Open because it has hosted regional qualifiers for the Open. That's the kind of distinction that a conflict of interest will blind you to. Cabayi (talk) 22:26, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Jjsnorth (talk) 23:57, 29 June 2017 (UTC) I will abandon this task as you determine by your language that this can only be performed by smart people wise to the ways of technical editing. A man of 80 who could not publish his own book and relies on an editor and publisher has no hope of enriching Wikipedia burt should be cast aside as a past generation and llet the socialites and twitterites rule. These is no loss to me and I will explain to teh author the point we have reached. In terms of what gets through your edit and what does not, as I look to Royall St Georges Golf Club entry which starts with the phrase: The Royal St George's Golf Club located in Sandwich, Kent, England is one of the premier golf clubs in the United Kingdom, then I ask myself - so who decided that this is a Premier golf Club if not a member of that club or a closely linked person. What is teh value of showing teh scorecard if not to promote business for teh club. My life must move on - once I have removed my account.

Jjsnorth, Every club has its rules and Wikipedia is no different in that regard. I regret that you feel unable to accept Wikipedia's rules.
To field a golfing analogy - you've openly turned in somebody else's scorecard and now expect the handicap committee not to discard it.
I regret that you feel picked on - all anybody ever needed to know was contained in your contributions. Your status as an octogenarian, as a club member, as a non-"socialite and twitterite" is completely immaterial and only arises because you chose to make it part of the discussion.
In regard to Royal St George's Golf Club, the relevant guideline is WP:SOFIXIT. I certainly don't wish to devote my time to being your cat's paw.
Your closing comment makes it pretty clear that your use for Wikipedia is limited, that you either manage to publicise the South Herts and have no further interest in Wikipedia, or you don't and you have no interest in Wikipedia at all. You have made it pretty clear you have no interest in Wikipedia beyond this article. My interests are in working to build a free encyclopedia, if you're not here to help then I have no interest in spending more time on this discussion. John Howarth (British politician)

Hi there, I just noted your PROD for this article. I had actually contemplated a PROD when this was created over the weekend, but instead I toned down the article. Following the UK election, the incumbent as Labour MEP for the South East of England will stand down. Anneliese Dodds was elected MP. As John Howarth was number 2 on the running list, it is quite likely that he will step up in line with European Parliament rules for succession. No harm keeping the article for a week or so until this is sorted. Thoughts? pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 16:42, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Jake Brockman, thanks for clarifying what wasn't in the article. At present I feel he's at the tail end of a string of WP: CRYSTAL balls. IF Dodds doesn't double-hat (if it's still allowed), IF Howarth is still interested in taking the seat for what looks like only a 21 month job... One way or another it ought to be resolved within the 7 days of this PROD - as reliably as anything can be predicted in British politics at the moment. Since rePRODding isn't possible it's probably better to leave the tag rather than have to go to AfD next week. The PROD will also act as a reminder to add some sources when the succession comes to pass.
That said, if you feel strongly, feel free with my blessing. Cabayi (talk) 17:19, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Jake Brockman, looks like Howarth eventually got the promotion yesterday but Skuipers beat you to recreating the article. Cabayi (talk) 11:43, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
Lol, I'm not emotionally invested in this article. To be honest, this had dropped completely off my radar screen until I saw the re-creation pop up on my watchlist. Interesting though that there are not many good references. Neither the party nor the MEP seem to be shouting about it. Only ref being the EU parliament list. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 12:25, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

eRa Eternity deletion

Hello, I believe that eRa Eternity was wrongfully deleted and confused with other articles that were rightfully deleted upon determination. If we can have a discussion about the article so I can link sources to prove that it is a notable and worthy wikipedia page. Even after the discussion I would like to request if you could move such content to a draft page so I can improve on such things that need improvement. Please get back to me as soon as possible, thank you! Willhire — Preceding unsigned comment added by Willhire (talkcontribs) 02:52, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Willhire, All the guidance you need has been posted on your talkpage. You've chosen to delete it rather than read it.
Your sole focus on wikipedia, along with Jdaiey (see WP:MEAT), has been to promote (see WP:PROMO) your group and your narcissistic autobiographies. Since you're clearly not here for the good of the wiki (see WP:NOTHERE) I see no point wasting time and effort explaining things for which you have already been given explanations. Global Strategies Group deletion

Hi Cabayi

Global strategies group has already a german entry, why can't I do an English version entry? This company was very relevant in the Iraqi reconstruction and was indeed controversial and was linked to the CIA director John Brennan, who has his own entry. I'm not promoting it, and I was indeed very generic. I have all intentions to improve it but it seemed like a good start to me.

Also, why can't I "contest" the deletion? there's no contest button the page.

Thank you, Katakiuchi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katakiuchi2020 (talkcontribs) 18:52, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Damian Perl deletion

Hi Cabayi

I do not believe the deletion qualified for either "promoting", which clearly did not, or being not "encyclopaedic" as it was as balanced and diverse as possible. I tried to contes the "speedy deletion" but there was no contest button whatsoever.

I do accept advice to improve the page, and I'll gladly work on it, but I believe this is a controversial figure, a prominent current businessman associated with US GVT and whose previous associates include high profile people of the caliber of John Brennan. Frankly I struggle to understand how this is not an encyclopaedic entry.

If it's a matter of improving it please tell me how and I will but it should be there in the public.

Many thanks indeed, Katakiuchi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katakiuchi2020 (talkcontribs) 18:59, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Katakiuchi2020 Both articles have been deleted so the opportunity to contest the deletion has passed. As outlined on your talkpage, you can ask to have the articles restored to your userspace or to draftspace so that you can work on them.
The English wikipedia has different rules its content than the German wikipedia. What one finds acceptable the other may not. The cases of both your articles, and your arguments here, are based on previous associates. The subjects need to be notable on their own merits. They don't inherit notability from their associates.
There's plenty of advice and guidance in the Welcome message on your talkpage. Please use it. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 19:30, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Dear Cabayi,

Thank you for your message on my talk page regarding the possible copyright problem with the page Siddharth Kara. I fully understand your concern and caution regarding this issue and completely appreciate the need to respect and adhere to Wikipedia's copyright policies. I must apologise for not having provided evidence sooner on Talk:Siddharth Kara that the copyright owner had indeed provided their permission to release the content from their website siddharthkara.com freely under license allowed by Wikipedia. Upon request, he has just sent an email to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org with a declaration of consent for use of any or all content and images from his website in the page Siddharth Kara. I very much hope this resolves the copyright issue and the page can be restored.

If there is anything else that is required, please do let me know. As a relative newcomer, I very much appreciate guidance and input from more seasoned editors such as yourself and look forward to making further contributions, in full adherence with Wikipedia policies of course!

Martinjonson (talk) 02:17, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Martinjonson The tone of the text that was copied is too promotional for an encyclopedia entry. It ought to be rewritten rather than licenced from Kara. I note that your picture on Aditi Shankardass is also "donated" by the subject - again improperly - and causes confusion about its copyright status. Why are you in contact with the subjects of your articles? Are you being paid to write them on behalf of the subjects? I'll add a coi advisory to your talk page for you to consider. Cabayi (talk) 08:12, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

Dear Cabayi, Thank you for your message. I am actually heartened by your meticulous attention to these entries in Wikipedia and very appreciative of your time and efforts to make it a reliable and responsible source of information.

With regard to the potential COI issue with the page Aditi Shankardass, I wanted to give you my assurance that I will always declare any COI that I may have in adherence with Wikipedia's policies. For the avoidance of any doubt, I am not in any way related to, associated with, employed by (past or present), nor have I ever had any contact with the subjects of my articles, Siddharth Kara or Aditi Shankardass. In early 2010, I was given a project to write an unbiased and fully referenced article on a notable TED fellow or speaker and I chose Siddharth Kara as my subject. In the course of my research, I also learned about TED speaker Aditi Shankardass and of the extreme rarity of two family members being TED fellows/speakers in the same year. Given the extensive information I had accrued from a range of reliable public sources, I decided to make my first Wikipedia contributions those for Siddharth Kara and Aditi Shankardass. In so doing, I made every effort to conform to Wikipedia's requirements for representing information fairly, without editorial bias and ensuring no copyright violations. I used and referenced content from bios and descriptions of Aditi Shankardass provided in interviews and on websites of organisations with which she was affiliated (all in the public domain), many of which of course had similar content, and so did not have to rely on her website. However, I did contact the assistant listed on the sites.google.com website for Aditi Shankardass for permission to use a photo on her social media site for my original article, and I was informed by him that it was available with the owner's consent to use freely for any purpose. At the time I noticed the assistant's name was very similar to mine (same first initial and almost identical last name except for the extra "h" in theirs) so shortly afterward when I registered for Wikipedia to commence my contributions, I had the idea to use the same first name as them (but my own last name) to lend some anonymity to my handle. I admit that was probably not a good choice, albeit an innocent one, since it has created some confusion as to my identity and consequently the appearance of a potential COI, but I assure you wholeheartedly I am not the Martin Johnson listed on the website. Were I indeed the assistant, I would certainly not have chosen my own name as the Wikipedia editor!

With regard to a potential copyright problem with the page Siddharth Kara, I was absolutely certain that if I had used any information from any source, the copyright owner would have most certainly provided consent, and so as I said in my message to you, I assumed I had merely failed to note it on the talk page. Nonetheless, in an effort to be respectful of your valid concerns, I immediately sent an email to the publicly available address for the copyright owner requesting that he might provide consent via the Wikipedia's "declaration of consent" template for all future use of content from his page. I received a response from their assistant that he would send such consent to Wikipedia Permissions, and I informed you immediately. However, I have since gone back to review the history of my contributions (you must forgive me, but I have not made contributions to either page in a few years). I realise now that no part of my Wikipedia contribution could possibly have contained work copied from siddharthkara/publications.html because that website did not exist at the time that I created or contributed to the Wikipedia page Siddharth Kara. According to ICANN WHOIS his website was created in 2013, whereas my Wikipedia entry was created in 2010 and my last contribution to the page was in 2012. So I can only assume that his website has in fact borrowed from some of my original contributions to Wikipedia, not the other way around! Or, I suppose they could have used some of the same public sources as I did at the time.

I reiterate that I have no external relationship or contact with either Aditi Shankardass or Siddharth Kara, and have never been paid or employed by either. I have only once made contact with the former's assistant in 2010 and with the latter's assistant some days ago, both for the purpose of ensuring I adhered to copyright requirements. I also created and contributed to the page Siddharth Kara well before the website was created and did not copy any content from his site. I hope this clarifies the issues relating to any potential COI or copyright problem for my entries. That said, with regard the photo for Aditi Shankardass, please could you let me know how best to ensure there is no ambiguity about the consent for use? This has been a learning curve, but I give you my sincere assurance that at every juncture I have strived to be a responsible contributor to the Wikipedia community. I welcome any advice or guidance you can provide on ways to do so more efficiently and constructively. Very sincerely, MJ :)

Nurida Kurbanova - sources

hi there

Thanks for your review and notes on my 1st article - I am afraid all sources would be available in Russian or Azeri so my question is - would it be better to create an article in Russian Wiki space? Thank you and all the best Irada83 (talk) 13:09, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Irada83. Good idea. I've tagged the article's talk page as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Russia which will hopefully draw some collaboration onto the article. Even so, you're more likely to find a better pool of collaborators for this particular article on the Russian wiki.
As the article stands at the moment it has several problems:
  • It doesn't link to any other wikipedia articles.
  • The references are all clumped at the end. WP:REFB is a good starting point for citations.
  • Some of the language is too vague & "peacock".
"Kurbanova was awarded a number of high international awards" - if they're worth mentioning, and they're notable awards, why not name them?
"revealed extraordinary abilities" - what abilities?
"awarded a gold medal "For Merits to Society" with the title "Ambassador of the Mission of the World"" - what medal? Awarded by who?
"is known as a public figure" - how do you justify that claim? It needs good sources.
  • It hasn't been added to any categories which help people find the article.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 18:21, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

thanks a lot for your comments, all noted! will rather continue with the Russian version Irada83 (talk) 13:33, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

CSD Declined - Moaid Mahjoub

Hi,

Just to let you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Moaid Mahjoub. You tagged it as G11 and A7, but it was not blatant advertising, and there was notability asserted (journalist and TV host). You might wish to re-review the criteria for WP:CSD#A7 and WP:CSD#G11. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a note on my talk page. Stephen! Coming... 11:29, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

CSD criteria is really down to the administrator, and I took the assertion to be credible for notability. However, I agree that without proper references, the article should be removed. As such I have nominated it for PROD. With regards to G11, blatant advertising is more akin to reading like advertising copy or someone's posted an obvious CV. Stephen! Request Undeletion - Jayesh Mehta

Dear friend, the article was about the founder of a noteworthy company, Tekfusion for which a page has been requested for undeletion, and the reason I created the article was in extending the information about the founders of this noteworthy company, as it will save time for readers who would want to know more about the company's cofounders. The article was created in good faith and was not at all promotional in any sense. I hereby humbly request you to undelete it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RaviKumar86 (talkcontribs) 12:59, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

I'm not an admin, and you've already requested undeletion. If the article reappears and fails to make a case for the company's notability, or looking as promotional as it did last time, I'll request its deletion again. Especially if you're apparently using more than one user account. Cabayi (talk) 13:45, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

Jake Brockman, thanks for the heads-up. I agree entirely with your assessment. I've re-tagged Jianghaiqingjianghaiqing's socks with Tianqingle's SPI and added a new sock to the SPI. Hello! Thank you for your reply on that page. I think it's obvious that I am new and I am not aware of Wikipedia's policies. That is, just excuse me for any minor mistakes I make.

I knew that I was going to make a mistake in that edit requests from the very beginning, so if it is possible, I would like to ask some things.

I) Is it possible for that page to have the

editnotice box when editing it? Is it necessary to start with?

II) Thank you for reverting the non-constructive edits I made to Kingdom of Greece. I am now wondering, do you think it can be nominated as a good article? I believe that the improvements I made along with some other additions improved it a lot. And if so, what shall I do?

Thank you in advance, and please do excuse me for the number of questions. --Morretor (talk) 17:48, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Fair enough. I didn't think there was a COI but thought I should check before carrying out your request.
I've not been involved in the Good Article & Featured Article area. The only article for which I have a GA credit was because I happened to have the necessary history book on my shelf to provide many of the source references. The article's talk page lists a couple of projects where you'll probably be able to get some help on this. It may also help to take a look at WP:GACR and to watch a couple of reviews to see how they play out just to get a feel for the process before diving in. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 18:25, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: List of all boxing glove brands

Hello Cabayi. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of List of all boxing glove brands, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not an unambiguous copyright infringement, or there is other content to save. Thank you. Primefac (talk) 14:29, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Primefac, Sorry, I don't understand. It's a direct copy. Even down to "TOP King" being out of sequence. There's nothing ambiguous about it. Cabayi (talk) 16:28, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
Lists cannot be copyrighted. It sucks, and it's a stupid page (hence the PROD) but that's the way it goes. Primefac (talk) 16:31, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
Primefac, Thanks for the explanation. I guess it's also too trivial for Sui generis database right to apply, which doesn't apply in the US anyway. Cabayi (talk) 16:43, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Random question

Hello Cabayi, sorry for dropping by randomly. Thank you for answering my request for opinions at WP:PERM the other day. I was wondering, have you ever been approached about potentially running for adminship? (I ran a search of your archive but couldn't find any relevant comments). Regards, Alex ShihTalk 17:19, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

Alex Shih, Thanks for the thought. I responded to Anna Frodesiak's trawl for potential admins back in April and took the WP:ORFA poll - Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Optional RfA candidate poll/Archive 7#Cabayi: April 26, 2017. I'm interested, but not sure opinions will differ much from that poll. Cheers, Cabayi (talk) 19:48, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of The intellipool project article

Hello,

First of all I am completely new to creating Wikipedia article - so please bear that in mind

My article The Intellipool project was just deleted due to violation of copyright issues. However, my company is the coordinator of the EU project, and we are obliged, as part of the deliverables, to make a Wikipedia page on the project and its results, which is also presented at www.intelli-pool.eu which we were accused of violating. Yes, we took som text from the homepage, which is quite logical.

I would like som help to go about that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MortenMK (talkcontribs) 12:36, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

MortenMK, you have a conflict of interest. Your involvement in the project is in conflict with your obligations as a Wikipedia editor. In particular you have issues under WP:PAID & WP:TOU.
Copying material from your website is a really big problem. Wikipedia grants a licence to anybody to copy, reproduce, & modify any material they find on the site. You're giving away the copyright on your company's material. Are you authorised to do that? How do we know? The procedures outlined on your talk page are designed to protect Wikipedia from accusations of stealing your company's material.
Permissions aside, does wikipedia want your material? Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a platform for your company to publish its research. We want articles which are supported by reliable, independent sources, not self-published research.
I don't think your obligation with your deliverables is compatible with your obligations as a Wikipedia editor. If you want to try re-creating the article you'll need to make the appropriate declarations about your PAID COI status and to start the article through the Wikipedia:Article wizard. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 18:07, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Felipe Smith

Hello Cabayi. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Felipe Smith, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: clearly claims significance, language is not really promotional . Thank you. SoWhy 07:13, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

SoWhy, thanks for the explanation. I came across this creation through edit filter 867. The author's contributions show someone making enough edits to gain autoconfirmed, going to sleep for a few weeks, and as soon as autopatrolled is acquired, creating a large promotional article. The language may not be overly promotional but the vanity highlighting given to his other projects is, as is the number of promotional external links. The article is clearly not the work of a new editor's 17th contribution. Based on our past discussions I'm pretty sure I won't convince you to change your mind, just as you won't convince me that this article is what it pretends to be. Hi Cabayi. Thank you for your comments on the above-named page. I created the page and I agree with your assessment, but not the decision to speedily delete. I have removed the puffery in the piece and left only the verifiable claims. I am familiar with the subject and I'm working to add even more third-party sources to add to what we already have. Please remove the deletion tag while I do this. Thank you. Igwatala (talk) 09:29, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Igwatala, it's not a speedy deletion (WP:CSD), it's a discussion (WP:AFD). The tag remains in place while the discussion is ongoing, usually a week, though it can be longer. You're welcome to try and improve the article in the meantime, and to request that anyone who has argued for deletion revise their opinion after you've improved it. As the article stands his sole claim to notability is as a pastor, which doesn't get past wikipedia's threshold of notability. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 10:51, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

The New Otaibah Tribe Edits

I noticed that you have reverted the page back to before I started working on it. Now I've done a lot of research on the topic, and I need to add this information for prosperity, as the books I'm reading, then translating into Arabia, then writing in English from, will never see the light of day in the states. Therefore, please, I have worked hard on this, how do I restore my contributions without being blocked? Do I remove all the blog refrences, because I will do that easily. Please, please, please. Help. Dawihq (talk) 15:00, 26 November 2017 (AST)

Dawihq,
Once you've read the advice above (and on your talk page) and you're sure you understand the problems and how to resolve them, go to the article, click on View history find the latest dated version you want to work from, click on the timestamp which will then bring up that version of the article, then click on Edit. If there are any edits by other editors dated after the version to which you revert it would be a good idea to leave an explanation on that editor's talk page, and to re-include their changes, to avoid having your changes reverted again.
Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 12:25, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

Cabayi, I will resolve the problems to the best of my ability. However, if I make a mistake, I'm only human. So I believe that there should be an open dialogue in terms of the information added to the page. Dawihq (talk) 15:32, 26 November 2017 (AST)

It's not being human that's the problem. It's being so closely bound to the Otaibah tribe that you're unable to write about it in a balanced and neutral way. If you want to have open dialogue, write up your changes on the article's talk page and ask for opinions from the relevant project teams, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ethnic groups and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Saudi Arabia in a neutral way (see WP:CANVASS). Cabayi (talk) 12:43, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

Cabayi,

There are no editors that have added information after my updates. I will revise the entire article so that it will become more neutral and I will delete bias information to the best of my abilities. Also, I have requested help from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Saudi Arabia and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ethnic groups Don't know when they will respond though. Furthermore, after I click 'edit' on the previous undeleted version, then what do I do? Do I copy and paste the changes in the article's talk page and wait for a review? Dawihq (talk) 16:10, 26 November 2017 (AST)

Cabayi,

I'm sorry to bother you again, but I removed all the unreliable references and saved. It updated the page. Was I not suppose to do that? Should I revert it back to how it was before my contributions? I know you are busy, but please guide me in doing this the right way. I have valuable information that I believe should be accessible to people in the West, to people all over the world, and for prosperity. Dawihq (talk) 16:26, 26 November 2017 (AST)

Cabayi,

I will add better book references tomorrow or later on tonight. I also requested a conflict-of-interest edit to the article. Please tell me if there is anything more I can do at this time since I don't want all my hard work to end up in the garbage can. Your comments are very important for me. I have worked all day in removing biases and unreliable references to the best of my ability. When you have time, please take a quick look. I will make further edits at your command and guidance. Moreover, I still haven't heard from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Saudi Arabia and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ethnic groups do they usually take time?

Finally, I want to be a regular, reliable, professional contributor in this community since I have an extensive library that my father collected his whole life that needs to be put to use.

I enjoy my time here and take anything that might jeopardize that very seriously. I would love to hear from you soon and thank you. Dawihq (talk) 23:24, 26 November 2017 (AST)

Dawihq, I've not replied sooner because, frankly, I'm put off by the huge mass of text on the page. Let's start with the section Otaibah#The Settlements. You've effectively written 20 articles about places in Saudi Arabia and hidden them away in this article. Split them out into separate articles and link to them, like Al-Muzahmiyya. The lack of content in List of governorates of Saudi Arabia, Category:Governorates of Saudi Arabia and Category:Populated places in Saudi Arabia show how badly we need these articles.
If you're going to cite the bible, {{Bibleverse}} is a useful template to use.
The whole section on Otaibah#Branches of the Tribe rests on just one source.
Otaibah#The Battles of Otaibah has no sources at all and doesn't link to any of the other tribes.
"Prominent Members" is usually called "Notable people" in Wiki articles. If the people don't have an article, they're not notable, so don't include them.
We already have an article on Nisba (onomastics). Link to it, don't rewrite it in your article.
I'll take another look once the article's down to a more manageable size. Regards, Cabayi (talk) 09:27, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

RileyBugz, tag it G5 if you prefer, I've just finished filing the SPI at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lilianarice. It could just have easily been tagged A7 as it's about the company's funding, not about what the company actually does. Cabayi (talk) 13:58, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
...and it's now a redlink. I didn't think I'd got it wrong. ;-) Cabayi (talk) 14:00, 4 December 2017 (UTC)

RileyBugz, Thanks. I like to think I give the CSD nominations enough consideration that I can defend them if challenged. In this case the sock connection, and the confirmation of spammy behaviour only became clear to me after I'd nominated the article and looked closer at the author's edit history. Setting up archives

Hi, when you set up a a page for archives, there's no need to immediately use OneClickArchiver. Just wait for the bot to visit, and it'll handle everything for you. If it doesn't archive the page, check to see if it's archiving other pages. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:48, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

"Up to a point, Lord Copper." ~ I understand your point Redrose64 but...
  • one of the talk pages (can't recall which) began with an undated section which wouldn't have been archived;
  • the archiving on Template talk:Frac threw DePiep into a confusion of trying to "fix" it when no archive was visible within 3 hours; and
  • I don't want to have to revisit each edit the following day, I'd prefer to have some confirmation immediately rather than a to-do list for the next day.
-- Cabayi (talk) 03:12, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Undated sections may be fixed by appropriate use of {{subst:unsigned}}
DePiep (talk · contribs) should have waited much longer, since Lowercase sigmabot III (talk · contribs) typically does its rounds once a day, beginning at 00:01 (UTC) and taking anything up to six hours to visit each page once - so it never visits immediately archiving is set up, but waits for the next cycle. For some high-use pages like WP:ANI, there are extra runs.
A success with OneClickArchiver does not prove that the archiving bot will also succeed. For one thing, they use different behind-the-scenes code. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:09, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
I had not noticed that Cabayi had added the archiver bot only hours before. I thought it was there all along and did not function somehow. So I made minor changes, looked for spelling errors, and did one manual archiving as a check (typos would show BTW). Only after that I saw that the bot was invited only yesterday. Is there any harm done? -DePiep (talk) 11:18, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Redrose64,
  • "Undated sections may be fixed" - they may, and where they're recent edits I often do. When it's at the top of a large talk page (which is the reason for archiving) and is long past any current importance, I'm reluctant to spend time chasing down whether it's a careless or accidental unsigned initial posting, a clueless top-posting at some point in the talk page's long life, or a "helpful" new header added to the middle of the initial post at some other point in the page's life.
  • "DePiep should have waited much longer" - perhaps he should, and perhaps I could have prevented the confusion from arising by archiving the first item so that the archive page existed. Personally I take DePiep's actions to be those of someone who cares about the wiki which is why I didn't ping DePiep. WP:AGF
  • "A success with OneClickArchiver does not prove" - I didn't say prove, I said have some confirmation.
To return to your initial point, "there's no need..." I'd echo DePiep's question, "Is there any harm done?" -- Cabayi (talk) 15:01, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
