Kone

[edit]

Hi, you add this source a couple of days ago, citing The Hindu of that date. The link does not work, I can find no article of that title using the paper's search engine, and it is not on the Wayback archiving system. Did you get the url wrong? Given that it is so recent, the thing will have to be removed unless we can fix this quickly because The Hindu don't usually shift things around anything like so soon after they have published a story. - Sitush (talk) 01:45, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article has been removed according to The Hindu website, the categories are still listed. I leave it to you, how to deal with it. Regards, --Dravidianhero (talk) 01:53, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OH, that's a shame. I'll have another look around their website just in case they have moved it to another headline title etc. - Sitush (talk) 01:56, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fictive Policy??

[edit]

What is so fictive about the policy that are you talking about here and here? Have you gone through the consensus? Please do so!  Abhishek  Talk 16:50, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

He cited a red link, so I thought, it might be a deleted policy. Thanks for the links. Regards, --Dravidianhero (talk) 16:57, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. It would have been a typo. So you should have just left him a note seeking explanation.  Abhishek  Talk 17:10, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Mahesh Babu

[edit]

Hello, i have seen your edits to the Mahesh Babu article. The content you have removed have citations and is not entirely useless. If you think the lead section doesn't need to specify the brand endorsements, then use that cited content and create a new section called "brand endorsements". I believe that many people would be interested in reading about his endorsement deals. Also about the Times of India survey, i don't agree with your reasoning for deleting the content. I think that TOI is very well known in India and about the survey being online, it is the most common way how such surveys are conducted. Again, if you think it's not "leadworthy", then make sure you put it somewhere in the article. I believe that deleting well cited content doesn't really help the article and for that reason i have reverted your edits. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks and have a nice day. krZna (talk) 03:04, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Krzna. I saw your change by making a separate section, and I think it's the best solution. The survey is mentioned in the section 2011–present, and my point was not, that TOI has no credibility, but that the survey itself can't taken to be representative for all Indians, as they are still many Indians, who have no internet access.--Dravidianhero (talk) 09:19, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re:professional critics

[edit]

review Raja is that a professional critic? you must be kidding. critics who write for newspapers and notable sites are professional critics. If not me someone else will remove it, because such amateur reviews wont be accepted. Believe me.. Karthik Selvanayagam (talk) 19:14, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Amateurish? Have you seen any of his reviews? He brings much more technical expertise than most of The Hindu or any other Online reviewers and the points are given per topic and are fully transparent. We all know the problem with paid news in India as well, he is surely not paid when he gives ratings. Let's have some sort of balance here and don't discriminate on basis of media platform.--Dravidianhero (talk) 19:27, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would like add, that he has been invited by Canadian national television too. So he is a well known international reviewer for Tamil films.--Dravidianhero (talk) 19:35, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I have seen his reviews, but you cannot consider him as professional critic. that would mean that everybody could film his opinion and become a critic. sorry bro, its really not possible. it was removed from other pages too when it was added. it will definitely be removed, I didnt make the rules bro. Karthik Selvanayagam (talk) 19:44, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Galatta is one the oldest film magazines and he is associated with them on their website, infact has an own section. Why is their website blacklisted?--Dravidianhero (talk) 20:22, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I support Galatta in being accepted by wiki as a reliable source. But I m neutral to Review Raja, though I'd prefer if he submit any written and online-published reviews as a step to become reliable. Kailash29792 (talk) 03:49, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I like review Raja's videos, but it seems its not notable enough. maybe as Kailash said, if he wrote and published his reviews it may be accepted. I don't know why Galatta is blacklisted, I dont see anything wrong in their site. Karthik Selvanayagam (talk) 10:56, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, let us close the discussion about Review Raja, now that the majority of us accept him as unreliable. Talking abt Galatta, i think we can request for it to be de-blacklisted. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:10, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks both of you. --Dravidianhero (talk) 12:20, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I asked for de-blacklisting referring to this discussion: Link--Dravidianhero (talk) 12:44, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

added 1 word of the critics claim of Anti Islamism / Anti Muslim, as I feel critics are on both sides, 1 stating it is anti political islam & the other being Religious islam. pls correct if u feel, this is not right (Alex.mathews (talk) 08:24, 29 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]

It appears that Galatta.com is still blacklisted. did anyone request for it to be removed from the list of blacklisted sites? Kailash29792 (talk) 08:30, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did. They asked me to put exclusive content such as interviews in future requests. They didn't want to whitelist regular pages at this stage.-- Dravidian  Hero  15:31, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you are interested, an article on the magazine Galatta Cinema can be created, for it is the "largest circulating English cinema magazine in India for South Indian movies". seeing that, wikipedia will even accept Galatta.com as reliable, for it is actually "South India’s No.1 movie portal" and it has even launched an iOS app. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:31, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Review Raja

[edit]

I think it is time an article on Review Raja be created, for he has appeared in The Hindu paper on a high note. Pls use this source: http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/distance-language-no-barrier-for-review-raja/article4404947.ece ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 15:09, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I will start it with joy --Dravidianhero (talk) 15:27, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I find the article well written, although informal terms like "exotic", "kollywood", "hanging out", and "movie" can be replaced with more formal terms, or at least appear in quotations. The phrase "Review Raja was born" doesn't sound formal either. Kailash29792 (talk) 15:59, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Review Raja

[edit]

Hi, I'm Anne Delong. Dravidianhero, thanks for creating Review Raja!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. I've added a couple of references. You may need to adjust the page to be more encyclopedic; leaving out stories and feelings and such that fans like to read but shouldn't be in an encyclopedia. —Anne Delong (talk) 20:22, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Re: Lack of pictures

[edit]

I still don't fully understand this concept of image policies on Wikipedia. All I can understand is that Non-free images (like film soundtrack images, posters, screenshots) cannot be used anywhere in any article except the infobox, and that images of people (to be out in infobox) are difficult to put because of in-understandable licensing issues. Notice of Dispute resolution discussion

[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute in which you may have been involved. Content disputes can hold up article development, therefore we are requesting your participation to help find a resolution. The thread is "Talk page of Culture of India".

Guide for participants

If you wish to open a DR/N filing, click the "Request dispute resolution" button below this guide or go to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/request for an easy to follow, step by step request form.

What this noticeboard is:
  • It is an early step to resolve content disputes after talk page discussions have stalled. If it's something we can't help you with, or is too complex to resolve here, our volunteers will point you in the right direction.
What this noticeboard is not:
  • It is not a place to deal with the behavior of other editors. We deal with disputes about article content, not disputes about user conduct.
  • It is not a place to discuss disputes that are already under discussion at other dispute resolution forums.
  • It is not a substitute for the talk pages: the dispute must have been discussed extensively on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) before resorting to DRN.
  • It is not a court with judges or arbitrators that issue binding decisions: we focus on resolving disputes through consensus, compromise, and explanation of policy.
Things to remember:
  • Discussions should be civil, calm, concise, neutral, and objective. Comment only about the article's content, not the other editors. Participants who go off-topic or become uncivil may be asked to leave the discussion.
  • Let the other editors know about the discussion by posting {{subst:drn-notice}} on their user talk page.
  • Sign and date your posts with four tildes "~~~~".
  • If you ever need any help, ask one of our volunteers, who will help you as best as they can. You may also wish to read through the FAQ page located here and on the DR/N talkpage.

Please take a moment to review the simple guide and join the discussion. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 06:59, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Galatta

[edit]

Did u know that a website's article on Wikipedia establishes its notability? Well, let us not count IMDB, Facebook, YouTube and other socializing sites, but if an article on Galatta is created, that will even have it removed from its blacklisted status. In fact, if anyone created an article on it, I'd like them to say it exists as a magazine named Galatta Cinema (claimed to be the "largest circulating English cinema magazine in India for South Indian movies") and as Galatta.com (claimed to be "South India’s No.1 movie portal"). Another fact that establishes its notability is that it has even launched an official app for Android and iOS. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 14:23, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The notability is clearly established, but the whitelist admins didn't find it relevant enough. I told them the situation, but they unilaterally decided to leave the site blocked, until we make use of their exclusive content. But most interviews are in video format only, quite unsuitable for our standards in wikipedia.-- Dravidian  Hero  14:59, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Butting in, reached here quite serendipitously, we can cite videos, if they are from reliable sources, for example we can cite Zee News, etc. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 14:27, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks alot for this highly valuable suggestion Yogesh. I guess, you arrived here by the Kwamigami case on Talk:Dravidian languages#Recent changes. I would appreciate your input there as well. Am I correct in my thinking, that Kwamis conduct is a general problem on wikipedia? Once again, thank you very much!-- Dravidian  Hero  16:28, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(You are right about how I landed here, AN/I is on my watchlist). I've been on the opposite side of Kwami in the Ganga v/s Ganges argument, and perhaps a few more where I was exasperated by his intransigence, however at one place (I think at ANI) I've stated that despite being an admin Kwami didn't use his admin powers to browbeat opposition (me) in an argument, I don't I would say that Kwami or anyone is a general problem, Wikipedia is big and there is opportunity for everyone to be useful. I am sorry if I my reply is not to your liking. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 14:10, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why did he lose admin rights then?-- Dravidian  Hero  14:26, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That is news to me, you see I am like the proverbial blind man, I held the elephant's tail and said that he is like a rope. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 14:30, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

These reliable sources mention both Galatta the magazine and Galatta.com in high light, and that clearly establishes notability of Galatta overall i think. the sources are listed as follows:

Courtesy, Kailash29792 (talk) 15:24, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also I'm under a topic ban wrt Indian history broadly construed, so I may not be able to contribute to the discussion. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 06:22, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like Galatta has been removed from blacklist? -- Dravidian  Hero  23:04, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, it has not been removed yet. Contacting an admin and showing him the above sources may settle the matter. BTW, the last quote in Parasakthi article is unsourced, and this line "The film also had its share in giving the DMK the necessary stimulus to overthrow the Congress party in Tamil Nadu", its page in the R. Kannan book source is not provided. do u know which page it is? Kailash29792 (talk) 12:03, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

descriptors in section headings

[edit]

It is my position that descriptors in the section headings are violation Original Research with Wikipedia editors making a determination that 20XX-20YY were a "Breakthrough" or "Setback" if there is not a reliable source quoted in the article describing the period as such, so WP:ORN would probably be the best place. (it could also be argued that descriptors applied by editors without sources are POV so i wouldnt be opposed to WP:NPOVN)-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 21:23, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Neram first look poster.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Neram first look poster.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:21, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gouravam poster

[edit]

Hi. I am Pavan Jandhyala, who discussed with you regarding the merging of Naan Ee with Eega in the past. I recently observed that the poster you uploaded for the 2013 Bilingual Gouravam is bearing a tamil title. Though all the stars are of tamil origin, it is better to upload a poster bearing an english title, as it would give a universal impact and can be easily approached by both Tamil and Telugu audience. Please reply soon about your feelings regarding my message to you today. Thank you.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 13:01, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pavanjandhyala. First I wanted to ensure, that there is a poster in an Indian script, and secondly we can't be sure that we always get Roman alphabet posters. I don't like the idea of Roman alphabet posters at all to be honest. I also thought of including both language posters in the box, but this would require additional work. What you think?-- Dravidian  Hero  13:21, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It defenitely needs. But i can do it. Select a poster of your choice in Tamil. I already uploaded a poster for this movie in Telugu Wikipedia. i am giving the link below.

link : http://te.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B0%A6%E0%B0%B8%E0%B1%8D%E0%B0%A4%E0%B1%8D%E0%B0%B0%E0%B0%82:Gouravam_poster.jpg

if you like it, give a link of the Tamil poster and i will develop it. Thank you.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 14:06, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please use the present EN poster. Make sure the Tamil poster is in first place, then Telugu at the bottom, since there is the problem with the width of the infobox.-- Dravidian  Hero  14:13, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. But i will keep Tamil Left and Telugu Right. Or else, the whole image would be longer than necessary, thus being a bit odd. Thank you.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 14:18, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I fear the width will really blow up the box, but let's see.-- Dravidian  Hero  14:26, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I did the changes. Please visit the page once.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 14:30, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

as mentioned, it has a too blown up width. please try the top-bottom case.-- Dravidian  Hero  14:36, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. I did the changes you prescribed. Check it.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 14:40, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

change the width to 250 pixels. It should look ok.-- Dravidian  Hero  14:44, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The image's present resolution is 88x240. If i change it to 250px, it would be of 91x250. Will it be comfortable.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 14:46, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You would increase height with 91x250. I mean 250x__ or 220x__-- Dravidian  Hero  14:49, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In that case, 220x600 is the resolution that would appear finally, and i did it. But things didnt go favourably well. Check it.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 14:56, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ok, let's try 160x-- Dravidian  Hero  14:59, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A Bit better than the previous. Check it.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 15:05, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It looks perfect on my Display. It could be 5-10 px wider.-- Dravidian  Hero  15:14, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Then lets stick to this. Thanks for your co-operation.Pavanjandhyala (talk) 15:55, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to you for the work. I'll take care for the rest, when I am in the mood to do so ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:South_Indian-language_films I guess we have a 160px standard now, which is good-- Dravidian  Hero  16:00, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An English poster could have done to give balance to the bilingual film, and there was already one, which was removed. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:34, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have listed the article for peer reviewing, because I find it capable of becoming a GA. Pls share ur thoughts in it if u like. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:34, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I's a very good article on first evaluation. Will give a detailed feedback.-- Dravidian  Hero  17:09, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Caldwell

[edit]

Thanks for your message. I saw the reverts which you did to almost all of my edits to Robert Caldwell. Please explain the reason for each of your reverts on the talk page. I understand that Subramaniam Swami is not liked among the so called Dravidian political circles in TN but Wikipedia is about facts not opinions. Other references could have been provided if Mr Swami's article was not of your liking but whole sale revers were not warranted. Your revert of Dr. R. Nagaswamy and his book "Mirror of Tamil and Sanskrit". Which had all the citation was clearly unwarranted. I also challenge your labeling of my edits as original research. Kindly provide reasons for each and every revert on the talk page of Robert Caldwell which I have created for my edits titled "Balancing the Article with All views about Robert Caldwell".Indoscope (talk) 18:52, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't it old news that she was married to a man named Ashwin, because of which she is publicly known as Soundarya R. Ashwin? Even the posters of Kochadaiyaan show her name as the same. So pls tell me if the page can be moved or not. Kailash29792 (talk) 15:25, 21 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Nagarjuna (actor), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Santhi (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

thanks. the "reception and legacy" section must contain all the great achievements of the film, and "controversies" section has a link which can b used. Hello Dravidianhero,

Your recent edit to the page Melayu Kingdom appears to have added incorrect information, so I have removed it for now. If you believe the information was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Dravidian Hero 10:33, 5 May 2013 (UTC).

In fact ther is no reliable source proving that "the term "Melayu" is [...] derived from the Tamil etymons Malai and ur, meaning "mountain" and "city, land", respectively". No linguist would support such an assertion. "Melayu" is a local, i. e. Sumatran name, that's it. To have recourse to a Tamil etymology amounts to "chercher midi à quatorze heure" as we say in French, "to look for noon at 2 pm". There is no evidence of Tamil having any influence in Sumatra. All that has been found so far is a Tamil inscription in Barus, on the western coast of Sumatra, dated 1088 AD left by merchants [2], which of course cannot be regarded as a proof of Tamil influence in Sumatra. This is why I call this claim of a Tamil etymology "Tamil nationalism" :-) Humboldt 11:21, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough. But Ms Weighman is a geographer, not a linguist, nor an historian, archaeologist or anthropologist. I don't know about the Indian gentlemen. However, the world of academia is full of recognised specialists of the Malay World, Southeast Asia and the Austronesian world : K. Alexander Adelaar, Peter Bellwood, Robert Blust, Denys Lombard, Anthony Reid, M. C. Ricklefs, O. W. Wolters, to name a few. To my knowledge, and I am currently doing research on Indonesia, none of them ever hinted that the name "Melayu" comes from Tamil. Anyway, I don't care: either Wikipedia can become a reliable source of knowledge, or people let it become a kind of potluck where they find what they bring. I am not going to fight on that front. As a researcher, I prefer to concentrate on my own work... :-) Humboldt 13:07, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
A geographer should know, why places are named as such.

Certainly not. A geographer knows place names, that's it. You need a linguist to know where the name comes from, and an historian to know when the place was named, and why.

I agree wikipedia needs a lot of improvements, but be frank, you were not an improver either.-- Dravidian Hero 13:11, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

You're right. I was a reaction of irritation to a proliferation of Tamil-biased mentions I see in an number of Wikipedia articles regarding the Malay World, and also in various sites, for example this one: "Hindu Wonders in a Muslim Country!", the title of which itself is wrong, because Indonesia is not a "Muslim country" but a country which happens to have a Muslim majority. It has Garuda Indonesia as its flag-carrier because the country's culture borrowed a lot from India and an Indonesian Red Cross, not Red Crescent...Humboldt 16:29, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

I see no such thing in wikipedia.

There are, for example Tamil place names in Malaysia (which you have reverted) and Chola dynasty and its incredible map claiming sovereignty over the Malacca Peninsula, Borneo, Java and Sumatra, just because in 1025 AD a Chola fleet attacked Sriwijaya, which was not an "empire" as the article claims but a city of 30,000 to 50,000 inhabitants today called Palembang [3].

Most people are decent.

I have no doubt about that! :-)

Thank you for the tip.

Hope you contribute more on Malay topics.

To be honest, I'm tired with two other nationalisms, Indonesian and Malaysian. Correcting the non-sense many Indonesians (my parents are Indonesians) and Malaysians write in Wikipedia is an uphill battle which I have given up fighting. I have even given up doing it in the Indonesian Wikipedia! This is why I limit myself to contributing to the French Wikipedia, where you won't find Indonesian and Malaysian nationalists... :-)

Do you have any special interests?-- Dravidian Hero 17:38, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

I work within a team of French researchers whose interest is in understanding national cultures through the functioning of organisations. In a way, what we do is an anthropology of modern societies. Thank you for the discussion, --Humboldt 18:12, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
