Ciraparantag structure

Hi! Just out of curiosity, what did I get wrong with this structure? I didn't notice it was about to be deleted. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 10:33, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Both guanidine groups were short one hydrogen atom. The image was tagged on Commons by User:Vaccinationist with Commons:Template:Disputed chem late last year and he uploaded a replacement with a different file name, File:Ciraparantag.svg. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:01, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Deletion Error

Hi there,

A few hours ago, I believe you deleted my Wikipedia page called Andrew Baker. Would you be able to restore this, if possible? I was planning on continuing work on it to credibly indicate the importance or significance. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Thanks!

Andrewcbaker — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewcbaker (talkcontribs) 18:21, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of that article was not an error. It clearly met criteria for speedy deletion as outlined at WP:CSD#A7. I have moved the article content to a draft at Draft:Andrew Baker, but unless there is something substantially new to add, the subject of the article is not notable enough to be included in Wikipedia (see WP:BIO). -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:16, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

new CAS numbers

Hi and Happy new Year, Edgar!

Well, on the three molecules, fr:3-Méthyltritriacontane, fr:4-Méthyltritriacontane, fr:5-Méthyltritriacontane, the atom of carbon which have the methyl is chiral. So my question is, could you find CAS numbers of :

  • 3-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS 14167-69-2 , racemic
    • (3R)-3-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS ?
    • (3S)-3-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS ?
  • 4-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS 149037-52-5 , racemic
    • (4R)-4-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS ?
    • (4S)-4-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS ?
  • 5-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS 132171-36-9 , racemic
    • (5R)-5-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS ?
    • (5S)-5-méthyltritriacontane, numéro CAS ?

Thank you in advance --Titou (talk) 08:15, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Happy New Year to you too. SciFinder returns no results for all those isomers. They have not been assigned CAS numbers. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:01, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Message: Hi, are you OK with giving access to talk page back so he can appeal there - pretty much all he did was remove a warning which is permissable?

@Just Chilling: This is an IP sock of a long-time disruptive editor. See for example 95.49.35.209 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) for another recent IP sock. I don't really object to giving talk page access, as long as someone is prepared to handle the ensuing disruption that is likely to result - bad faith requests to be unblocked, etc. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:25, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Australia-China Youth Dialogue

Hey Edgar181,

First time editing info on a page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia-China_Youth_Dialogue and I didn't refer to relevant sources in some sections. What's the process for me to get back in and update sources to as to not infringe copyright.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Manelle.issa (talkcontribs) 01:14, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

In order to not infringe the copyright, you must write the article in your own words rather than simply copying text from the organization's website. Please see Wikipedia:Copyright violations for details. Also, you might want to have a look at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) and first be sure that Australia-China Youth Dialogue meets the notability guidelines for inclusion in Wikipedia before taking the time to rewrite the article. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:10, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Bo's Place draft

Hello Edgar181,

It appears that you may have seen my submission on "Bo's Place". Unfortunately I'm unable to locate the draft and I don't have a copy. Do you know if there is a way to retrieve it? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LufferTracker (talkcontribs) 22:38, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Draft:Bo's Place was most recently deleted by the administrator User:RHaworth. The reason that he gave in the deletion log was, "G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.livestrong.org/we-can-help/survivor-stories/lindy-n/". If you have questions about the deletion, it would be best to address it to him. (I merely deleted the redirect at User:LufferTracker/sandbox because it was no longer needed when its target was deleted.) I wouldn't mind emailing you a copy of the deleted content, though, if you would like it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:39, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
Thank you - yes, I'll contact RHaworth to see if he can restore the text in a draft form again, and then see what to do about the LiveStrong "infringement" (it was a referenced link, maybe I did it incorrectly). If he can't recover the text I'll revert back to you for help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LufferTracker (talkcontribs) 18:53, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

Restore Lists of taxa described from....

Could you restore those Lists of taxa described from... pages? It will take time to fill up, but as far as I know taxa have been described from every state so deleting them before I can even start them is unnecessary. Abyssal (talk) 14:06, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Empty lists aren't appropriate in article space, especially if it is going to take a lot of time, as you say, to add content to them. I have restored the ones I deleted and moved them to draft space. It looks like you created a bunch of others that you should probably move to draft space before they get deleted too. Once you have added content to them please feel free to move them back to article space. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:15, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia has specific guidelines for including biographies. Please have a look at Wikipedia:Notability (people). The article I deleted read like a self-promotional resume and did not demonstrate significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject. You should also have a look at Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, which seems to apply here. -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:23, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

User Bilgamis added this content to Turukki: 1. It is exactly the same with newly banned Tirgil34 sock's edit: 1. His previous additions are also resembling the same LTA vandal. Since "Bilgamis” is also registered on en.wikipedia, i think it should be banned as being sleeper sock.80.233.134.123 (talk) 17:45, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Because of the language difference, I'm unable to evaluate whether the two editors might be the same. Viola group page deleted due to ‎R2: Cross-namespace redirect from mainspace

Hi Edgar, I would like to resolve this issue, but i am not sure what needs to be done- would it be possible to elaborate? I would highly appreciate your help, Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Orlysetv (talkcontribs) 10:41, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

The article you created, Viola group, was moved to Draft:Viola group by User:Robert McClenon. I then deleted Viola group because it had become an inappropriate redirect that met a standard criteria for deletion (see WP:CSD#R2 for details). The text of the page has not been deleted, just moved. If you have questions about why the page was moved, it would be best to contact Robert McClenon. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:57, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
User:Orlysetv - In my opinion and that of another reviewer, the article needs more independent (third-party) references to satisfy corporate notability and be ready for article space. I suggest that you find third-party references, not just internal references and press releases. You may then submit the draft for review, or you may move it back to article space, but if it is moved back to article space without satisfying corporate notability, it may be nominated for deletion via Articles for Deletion. I moved it to draft space as an alternative to nominating for deletion. If you have any more questions, I would suggest that you ask for the advice of other experienced editors at the Teahouse. Rajkumar Mishra socks

Hi Edgar181, I noticed that you deleted the user page and put a block notice at User:Rajkumar Mishra (Actors). There are a few more of his socks that have been blocked recently. Can you do the same for these?:

I guess you need to be an admin to do this, right? Thanks, First Light (talk) 16:19, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

how long do you let someone edit a page before you just delete it?

I was still editing and you deleted it, which was frustrating, so what is the actual process so i can get something done and not waste another hour? Sallyodes (talk) 16:45, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Sallyodes: you can create pages in the draft namespace (such as Draft:Example), where there is less chance of the article being speedily deleted. clpo13(talk) 19:10, 14 March 2017 (UTC)
@Sallyodes: The time it takes to delete an article will depend on the situation. Assuming you are talking about ODES UTVS, it was a couple of hours after it was created before I deleted it. That's probably a bit quicker than normal, because in this case the entire content of the article was "ODES UTVS", so clearly no actual content was lost when it was deleted. Starting an article as a draft, as Clpo13 helpfully suggests above, will give you all the time you need to work on it until it is ready to be an acceptable article. You may also find the process outlined at Wikipedia:Articles for creation to be helpful, as well as Wikipedia:Your first article. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:32, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Re: Request at AIV last week

Hi, you asked me to let you know if the disruption in the 175.158.201.* range continued after the block elapsed. Today, Special:Contributions/175.158.201.8 in that range just added a fake title to Family Guy (season 15) (the "reference" they provided was completely bogus, upon searching for that Reg. # in the U.S. Copyright Database ref, I was redirected to a "The page does not exist" screen) as well as adding questionable information to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012 TV series) (season 5) article and adding the fake element "Unseepawesomeium" to the Extended periodic table article. Diffs: 1 2 3. It appears Special:Contributions/175.158.201.125 is also adding fake information to Ben 10 (2016 TV series) 4. The one-week rangeblock obviously did very little to change this user's disruptive behavior. Thanks! Katniss May the odds be ever in your favor 04:16, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. Looking at the edits, it is clear that this is a single individual and due to the persistence, a longer block is needed. I have now extended the block on the 175.158.201.* range to 3 months. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:39, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

Fair Use??? This wasnt a complete paragraph, chapter or book..., it was all that someone had tried to add to their sandbox as their first edit. We are being very silly. I will paraphrase the 30 words if someone will restore it. Victuallers (talk) 16:33, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
@Victuallers: You don't seem to understand they copied the entire web page. --NeilN talk to me 16:37, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Victuallers, the content (now redacted) was entirely, completely, 100% copied (bullet points and all) from this page. That is G11, G12, and U5 all rolled up into one. Granted, the page is blanked and the copyvio handled, but I see no justification for saying that we should be allowed to keep that content (at that point, of course). Primefac (talk) 16:39, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
I didnt realise it was the whole page - however its a tricky message for new users. Pioty we could'nt make the pages less visible to prevent any copyright damage. I will fix the page.... but I guess I dont need the original Victuallers (talk) 22:35, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
Victuallers, this is just sloppy use of the admin tools. You have the ability to look at past versions of deleted articles before you undelete them. You also have the ability to look at versions that have been revision deleted. --NeilN talk to me 12:34, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

I think it is fine to speedy delete a user talk page that has nothing but advertisement in the history as was done with Shahdahmad's user talk page. However, once another user has made edits to the user talk page, such as giving them a warning or other attempts to contact the user, I don't think speedy deletion of the page is appropriate anymore. That's why I just removed the promotional text from Nessie2017's talk page rather than deleting the page entirely. (As an aside, my teen son showed me this YouTube video recently, and now it's the only thing I can think of when I see your signature.) -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:28, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – April 2017

News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2017).

Administrator changes

added TheDJ
removed XnualaCJOldelpasoBerean HunterJimbo WalesAndrew cKaranacsModemacScott

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion on the backlog of unpatrolled files, consensus was found to create a new user right for autopatrolling file uploads. Implementation progress can be tracked on Phabricator.
  • The BLPPROD grandfather clause, which stated that unreferenced biographies of living persons were only eligible for proposed deletion if they were created after March 18, 2010, has been removed following an RfC.
  • An RfC has closed with consensus to allow proposed deletion of files. The implementation process is ongoing.
  • After an unsuccessful proposal to automatically grant IP block exemption, consensus was found to relax the criteria for granting the user right from needing it to wanting it.

Technical news

  • After a recent RfC, moved pages will soon be featured in a queue similar to Special:NewPagesFeed and require patrolling. Moves by administrators, page movers, and autopatrolled editors will be automatically marked as patrolled.
  • Cookie blocks have been deployed. This extends the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user if they switch accounts, even under a new IP.

By the time I saw this, it looked like the user was gone, so I didn't do anything. Sorry for the late reply, I just realized now that I hadn't responded to you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:14, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Good Lord...

Thanks for fixing the mess and for protecting János Áder. I was keeping it under control earlier, but I stopped keeping eyes on it after I was pulled into other messes like this one ;-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:41, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Around here, there's always another mess to deal with.  :) -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:11, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

I figured ~10 years was enough

FYI. --NeilN talk to me 20:38, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

That makes me feel old.  :)
I certainly have no objection to the unblock. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:47, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
Funnily enough, the only reason why that talk page is on my watchlist is that I warned them, eons ago, during one of my first days doing recent change patrolling. Pre-Twinkle, even! --NeilN talk to me 20:55, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
Old talk page warnings were deleted for some reason. I have restored them since the editor has decided to return. -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:00, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Why?

You deleted Josh O'Brien. Why? I was trying to make it look proper and professional — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joshob1991 (talkcontribs) 14:50, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

I deleted it because it was essentially empty of content. Sometimes it is hard to tell if anyone is still actively working on an article such as that. I have restored the content to Draft:Josh O'Brien where you can work on it without interference. When you think it is ready, you can then move it back to Josh O'Brien. I hope this helps and sorry for the confusion. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:56, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi @Edgar181:, I don't think there even needs to be a draft page. Before the page was cleared down, it had content which was nowhere near satisfying WP:NRU, so there is no possibility of this ever moving out of draft space. Also, on the subsequently-cleared-down talk page, the author stated the article was created was a test. Five other non-sensical pages created by the user was also speedily deleted earlier today. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 15:31, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I didn't catch that there was additional content in earlier versions of the article. Looking at those edits, I think you're right that the subject doesn't currently meet notability criteria. But it's not going to do any harm for now in draft space, and I'll put it on my watchlist and redelete it after awhile if nothing ever comes from it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:16, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Donnie Hogan

Hi Edgar18. You deleted Donnie Hogan per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Donnie Hogan, but the article was just recreated. Can you tell if it should be tagged for speedy per WP:G4? -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:27, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

It was indeed substantially similar in content to the article which was discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Donnie Hogan, so I have deleted it again. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:59, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for checking on this? -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:20, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

FYI

That page you deleted, went back up minutes later. Cheers, — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 11:57, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

I deleted it again. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:54, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
Err... Now a third time! — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 06:49, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Looks like NeilN deleted it and protected the page from further creation. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:54, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Move suggestion

Methyl trifluoromethansulfonate probably should be moved to Methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate, but it appears that such a change requires an administrator. That is if you agree that this change is a good idea (seems like a dumb typo or translation from German to me). --Smokefoot (talk) 23:12, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Done. Seems long overdue. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:34, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

AIV bots

Is there a noticeboard somewhere where anything has been mentioned about the bot(s) that patrol WP:AIV not working? None of the blocked users are being removed (I have that script active that crosses out the blocked ones, makes it easy to see). Home Lander (talk) 16:03, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

User:HBC AIV helperbot5 was the most recent bot handling the task of removing blocked users from AIV. According to the bot's user page, it is currently run by JamesR, and there is already a message on his talk page informing him of the issue. Unfortunately, it looks like JamesR hasn't been active for several months. So maybe leaving a message at WP:VP or WP:AN would be helpful. -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:40, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
@Edgar181:@Home Lander: I'm still receiving mail pings for my user talk! I'll take a look at the bot process now and get back to you shortly. — JamesR (talk) 20:15, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
@Edgar181:@JamesR: Looks like it's working again. Thanks. Home Lander (talk) 20:27, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

CAS numbers

Hi Edgar. Can you check if 484123-01-2 is a real CAS number? It is listed by various chemical suppliers as the CAS number for SGT-263 / CUMYL-5F-P7AICA, a synthetic cannabinoid. However it looks too short to me for a CAS number for a compound that recent, and I am suspicious it may have just been made up by someone. Cheers Meodipt (talk) 04:03, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

I can tell you right now that 484123-01-2 is an impossible CAS number because the check digit doesn't match. I'll look tomorrow and see if CUMYL-5F-P7AICA has a CAS number assigned to it yet. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:42, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
@Meodipt: According to SciFinder, CUMYL-5F-P7AICA does not currently have a CAS number assigned to it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:29, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Mistake

Did you delete the wrong page? ~ GB fan 23:52, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Yes, apparently I did. I intended to delete a page that was in the category, but somehow deleted the category instead. Thanks for fixing it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:24, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
