How do I know the material was copyrighted? (Akmaie Ajam)

Hello, I made many edits on OnePlus Nord, and you deleted it. Why? Which material is copyrighted? How do I know if the material is copyrighted? I need clarification. Please answer this. Help me. Thank you. (Also sent to Emir of Wikipedia) Akmaie Ajam (talk) 00:36, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Sorry for me moving it up, but this is important. Please clarify now. How do i choose uncopyrighted material? Thanks. Akmaie Ajam (talk) 00:47, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Pyrrho (RDBMS) and bikes

Regarding: Pyrrho (RDBMS). While at DRV it is arguably not necessary to restore the talk page with an unspeedy it is, both because it can contain notability information/references and because it probably triggers notification to relevant wikiprojects. I do not believe Talk:Pyrrho (RDBMS) has been restored. Pyrrho is likely most skeptical about this. I am somewhat hopeful you will be more happy to do this than you were with the refund of Guardian Bikes ... you might care to read this ... User_talk:Scruitineer#Guardian Bikes - explanation of deletion. ( I also have a couple of essentially technology bike articles based in draft ... they may or may not go forward if I take the urge ) As to my position on bikes you may read this ... User talk:Djm-leighpark/Archives/2018 1#Car user and Daily Mail only reader?. Please be aware I have a wry and dry sense of humour and at least someone has taken that DRV and unspeedied it and AfD was inevitable. Please keep up your good work .... you get through a lot (though please refund my stuff in future!) ... thanks in good faith.Djm-leighpark (talk) 21:41, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Alright, there's no need to offer a long argument about the talk page, it just didn't occur to me that there was a talk page which should be restored and hadn't been restored already. I've restored it now. Hut 8.5 06:48, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

Hello. :) I just wanted to drop you a note to say that I wasn't sure if you intended to close out the FIFA listing at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2018 June 24, so I have gone ahead and done so. Apologies if that was redundant to your intentions! As it happens, we agree on the conclusion, so that works out handily. I did drop a honking big wall of text about copyright law and precedence and our own policies, as I saw a lot of alarming misunderstandings in the talk page especially about the way things work. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:56, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Job Order Contracting Page Deletion

Hello Hut 8.5: I'm inquiring on your deletion of the following page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Job_order_contracting

What can we do to get you to restore it, so we can amend to meet your guidelines? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gssmith1986 (talkcontribs) 12:26, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

edited 13:23, 21 July 2018 (UTC) Thank you Hut 8.5 for replying to my query on this deletion. I hope I am responding in the appropriate place here. "We" in my inquiry above, are the Center for JOC Excellence, which is a US based non-profit Industry association comprised of Public Agencies (Federal, State, and Local Governments) and Contractors utilizing the Job Order Contracting technique. I'm providing a link to CJE Association here:

https://jocexcellence.org/

I am a former National Board member of this association, and currently on the education committee for it. I did not create the original article nor have I previously contributed to it; I concur with your assessment that the page had evolved into an advertising medium, which we attribute to certain JOC practitioner promoting its own version of JOC. I'm not certain who declared CJE ownership of the article either, but I understand that no one "owns" any articles. Perhaps we should have had a custodian responsible for monitoring the article evolution, but we did not. To that end, we'd like to recreate it in compliance with Wikipedia guidelines, however I don't have a copy of the original...is there somewhere we could recover that, amend it in compliance, and then republish? Also, thank you for your earlier prompt reply and help in this matter.Gssmith1986 (talk) 13:23, 21 July 2018 (UTC)gssmith1986

Josve05a incorrectly marked content on my page for deletion

Josve05a has marked a load of labourously created press citations as copyright violation, when that is not correct. I have brought this to his attention, and he has asked me to request the undeletion of this mistakenly tagged content here. The page in question is for the game Insane Robots. Thank you.

Page recreation

Hi Hut 8.5. You recently deleted Wikipedia talk:UPIMAGE, which I had nominated as WP:G2. Do you find it strange that it was the second time that it had been created? I had nominated it back in May, for the same reason, and RHaworth deleted it. It was created the first time by Official Hoxaifa and the second time by FRANCIS EMMANUEL FISAYO.

It's a pretty obscure page title, especially given it's a talk page. Do you think it's the same person? Is it even worth the effort to see if it's a sock? --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:52, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

  • @Drm310: I suppose they could be socks but I doubt it and it doesn't make much difference. Googling the word "Hoxaifa" returns names of people living in India or Pakistan, so I suspect that user is from somewhere around there. The other user claimed in an edit summary to be a Nollywood film producer and director. Even if that's not true I suspect they're from Africa. The contents of the pages doesn't show any similarity. Neither user has made any other edits other than creating their user pages so it doesn't make much difference if they are socks and we don't have anything else to go on anyway. Why was my page deleted?

You have deleted my page on Language MOOCs:

Apparently due to:

22:26, 8 November 2016 Hut 8.5 (talk | contribs) deleted page Draft:Language MOOC (L-MOOC) (G7: One author who has requested deletion or blanked the page)

Who asked for it to be deleted? Can I have it back please?

I appreciate that it needs to be finished but will do so.

Thanks.

You calling my work "Drivel" and deleting a biography Draft Page

You deleted a Draft page written by a 3rd party (not by me) entitled "Draft:Richard_P._Crandall".

You said it violated copyright restrictions and you called my physics research "Drivel".

I am Richard P. Crandall (physicist), the person whom the Draft article was about. The author of that was simply referencing my autobiography which is on my website. I have written 2 published books, and have appeared on at least one television show, which aired in the state of Connecticut. I am ALLOWING that third party person to use my content Without Restriction. He has my permission to publish such article about me. Also my physics is not "Drivel". That is unfair and pre-judgmental BIAS. And it's not nice to say that to a person whom doctors have given only 1 more month to live!!!

I ask that you un-delete the article, and THEN let OTHER editors handle it!

And, I demand an apology.

Question

Hi, I just came across the page Dynamic Armor (now) and noticed it had been moved by you (a few years ago) from "Dynamic Armour". I was just curious why, as it appears there was nothing wrong with the original British English spelling, (the article states it's a development of the UK, a majority of the sources use the Br.Eng spelling and the page creator, Kitchen Knife, identifies as both British and a user of Br.Eng), so why move it to the American spelling? Thanks - wolf 13:20, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

@Thewolfchild: the move I did in 2015 was to fix a cut-and-paste move done by someone else. At the time I worked on reviewing listings created by a bot of potential cut-and-paste moves. The original move was done by DeeJaye6. At the time the article didn't mention the UK at all but did note that the system was being considered for inclusion on a US Navy aircraft carrier. I suspect I didn't do any particular research into it at the time other than to note that the reason for the move wasn't ridiculous. The current article makes it much more clear that it's a British system and I have no problem with it being moved back to the British spelling. Hut 8.5 18:04, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
I see. Like I said, just curiosity (not criticism). Thanks for the reply. - wolf 18:13, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Hut 8.5. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Socking

Hi, Hut - I'm not sure if you're aware of the history behind the BLP you restored and moved to Draft:Naman_Ambavi. There is an open SPI case Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Brianna_Wiest. The article has been reviewed by at AfC and NPP, and the attempts to get their BLP published (there is reason to believe the editor has a COI) date back to 2013. The BLP fails GNG and is quite insistent on getting published, regardless of the failed reviews, thus the sock activity and concern over the COI. Atsme✍🏻📧 02:05, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

  • @Atsme: the page was only deleted in the first place because the author asked for it. Given that the creator requested restoration minutes afterwards I suspect that they didn't really mean to do this and were instead asking for something else, such as moving it back to draft space. I moved it back to draft space as an alternative to relisting the AfD which was going on at the time of deletion. If the author moves it back into mainspace without massively improving it I'd be happy to delete it if possible or prevent the user from moving it again. I'm not sure the alleged socking is a big concern here as it appears to be a new editor editing while logged out. Hut 8.5 08:09, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
Perhaps you overlooked this AfD? I'm not sure what you're referring to about author's request to delete. AllyD may be able to explain this situation better than I. Atsme✍🏻📧 13:38, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
No, I'm not overlooking the AfD, as you can see from the fact that I've mentioned it above. The AfD was not closed as Delete, it was closed as Speedy Delete because the author requested deletion. As I said, the article was deleted because the author requested it and not because of the result of the AfD. I could have reopened the debate after the creator requested restoration but I opted to move it back to draft space instead. Hut 8.5 18:19, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
The non-admin closure further complicated things because there was a draft in existence, AND an article in mainspace, which may explain this edit and the parallel histories mentioned by Anthony Appleyard. The author was asking that the Draft be deleted and history merged, and he tagged it incorrectly as you can see by the red text. You see, when his AfC was declined, he ignored the decline and moved the article himself leaving the draft behind:
07:05, December 15, 2018 Brianna Wiest (talk | contribs) deleted redirect Naman Ambavi by overwriting (G6: Deleted to make way for move) (thank)
07:03, December 15, 2018 Brianna Wiest (talk | contribs) moved page Naman Ambavi to User:Naman Ambavi (revert) (thank)
12:52, August 22, 2013 Peridon (talk | contribs) deleted page Naman Ambavi (A7: Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject) (thank)
Look at User talk:Brianna Wiest and you will see that on Dec 14th I tagged the article A7, and the tag was deleted by his IP sock here. Removal of that tag was his 1st policy vio as author of the article, if like you say, he edited without logging in or if he was socking which equates into 2 policy vios. I don't have access to the actual article history to know which was the article and which was the draft because it all shows up as if was always in draft. What I do know is that we have an open SPI, and a mistaken G7 that should have been an A7 for the article (that also included deleting the draft), and that 5 years ago the same article was an A7: Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject (deleted by Peridon). Nothing has changed to make it pass GNG.
After I tagged the article A7 my tag was quickly removed by the IP (sock) - 1st policy vio. Another editor restored the CSD tag and it was removed again - 2nd policy vio. Then the IP (sock) prepared to move the draft into mainspace (read the edit summaries), and added the hist merge tag. You don't go through all that effort when you want to delete your article. He was wanting to delete the draft and merge the history into the article. Somehow, among all the disruption caused by the author, the efforts of the NPP reviewers became lost in the confusion and the G7 request for the existing draft/merge history is what floated to the top in lieu of the A7. The author's improper tagging, IP disruption and tag removals, his attempt to move the draft into mainspace himself which created this mess, and well, his non-notable article lives on in draft space. For our efforts, we're left to deal with a SPA, potential SPI and COI editor all rolled into one with their same non-notable promo BLP in Draft space they are bound and determined to get back into mainspace. I am forced to leave it at that considering the sequence of events are much too complex for me to explain. Sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused you. Atsme✍🏻📧 20:40, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, what exactly are you asking me to do here? I can't immediately see anything which would justify deleting the draft again, or blocking the creator. Hut 8.5 21:35, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
Hi Hut - now that we have taken the proper steps to AGF, can you please help expedite this case? After you moved the article back to Draft, the author added more promotional material cited to sources he authored. It's a rather obvious case of promotion-sock activity-COI involving a non-notable person. Can you please speedy delete the Draft and do whatever is necessary to prevent this user from wasting any more of the community's time? [1] I've asked Berean Hunter to look into the open SPI case. The MfD is here. I have always been willing to mentor and help problematic editors who are here to build the encyclopedia, but this SPA has a different plan for the pedia. Thanks in advance...Atsme✍🏻📧 13:52, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
I suggest we just wait for the result of the MfD. Most of your complaints against this editor aren't valid reasons to speedily delete a draft. I think it is definitely getting close to being a G11 candidate but I'd rather let the MfD sort it out. Hut 8.5 16:21, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

hi there - many thanks for taking a look at my draft page for E G Brisch recently. I just wanted to say that I am his son and wrote the text.I thought his details would be of interest as his classification scheme was widely used and forms the bases of many such systems today. Regarding: Deletion of Boundless (production company) I would argue that since it's a functioning entertainment company, responsible for making many of the most popular programmes on British Television it should never have been deleted, but rather expanded. However rather than expand the page, edits have been reducing the size (not helpful in my view). I had not got round to cleaning up the page or explaining it. If it's reinstated, I can expand the page and clean up any outstanding issues.  The Emperor of Byzantium  (talk) 00:30, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

I'd like to unprotect the page MeWe, if possible. I've worked up a draft article which should pass notability, citation, and other standards. Help

Hello Mr Hut, I saw you reverted one deletion of Sanjay Razdan. I think the nominator felt shamed and came again and this time involved some people. But I am unable to understand that those guys are evaluating the page on WP:GNG whereas WP:GNG clearly indicates that if the subject received significant coverage and even WP:Prof verifies the notability. I am really unable to understand the agenda. Should I focus on written policies or personal opinions of the nominators? Because articles with almost no references are on Wikipedia because when we google we knows the notability. Anyway, I am really confused because I want to create more pages. Please suggest a better place to learn how to create a page to satisfy the users opinions. MaxiColeman40 (talk) 16:11, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Hey H, I saw many years ago you move-protected Portal:Organized Labour; I think it makes sense to move it to Portal:Organized labour, as (probably becasue of the protection) it was the only portal that was not moved to follow article capitalization back in 2010 when the rest of the portals were retitled. Could you please unprotect it so I can do the move? Thanks! UnitedStatesian (talk) 22:18, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

@UnitedStatesian: sure, done. Hut 8.5 06:38, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. Could you also remove your move protections of Portal:Aviation and Portal:Catholicism? Think it makes sense to have them located instead at Portal:Aircraft and Portal:Catholic Church respectively, to match the titles of the article. UnitedStatesian (talk) 00:05, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
Sure, unprotected those as well. Hut 8.5 20:47, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
Last one (I think): can you unprotect Portal:Military of Australia? It should be at Portal:Australian Defence Force so the title matches the article on the subject. Thanks! UnitedStatesian (talk) 16:25, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
I'm sorry for butting in here User:Hut 8.5, but I'm letting User:UnitedStatesian know I would oppose such a move. The page might have been created in 2018 but that doesn't mean the text has been at the URL for that long. Note that currently the URL doesn't have that text at all. Hut 8.5 21:29, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation, hadn't realized that. Sorry to take up your time.Onel5969 TT me 21:32, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Scots language.

The text you removed is on the public domain (as it was written sometime in 1800) and the English translation was not copyrighted. Wouldn't that mean, that there is no copyright violation?

Lou Marinoff's wiki page

I do not find particularly helpful your deletion of my material, nor your snarky comment that Wiki is "not my CVC host". --> FYI, my CV contains three times as much as I posted. If you don't like my listing of books, book chapters, and articles then just say so. --> You have also deleted descriptive biographical facts about my work which have NOTHING TO DO with my CV. --> You have reverted to an ugly, incomplete, and fatuously misrepresentative page that does a profound disservice to my profile and your credibility. I would appreciate some clear guidelines about what will pass muster on my Wiki page. Loumarinoff (talk) 22:29, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Requests for Undeletion? EnPowered

Hi there, I was curious if you could help me determine the status of my request for undeletion (EnPowered - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Requests_for_undeletion&diff=897565387&oldid=897565252#EnPowered ). I'm asking since you would be familiar with it, as you commented on it. I assume it timed out after 7 days without a response. Are you able to confirm that was the case, and if so what next steps are? Thank you in advance, JScott-NL (talk) 14:22, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Request for Undeletion

Edwin of Northumbria seems to be requesting the undeletion of Felix Römer (disambiguation) to User:Edwin of Northumbria/sandbox, from which they seem to have accidentally moved it. See their comments at User talk:DannyS712#Thanks re. disambiguation plus query and User talk:Edwin of Northumbria#Restoring sandbox. Based off of the deletion reason, I don't think that this should cause any problem. Thanks, StudiesWorld (talk) 18:27, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello and thanks for your edits. I reverted an addition by User Geofq of copyvio material to the above page; I see you also reverted Geofq's addition of the same material about a week ago. Does this kind of thing need Revdel? Just curious. Thank you. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 03:11, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

@ThatMontrealIP: You can certainly request revdel for pieces of copyvio which were quickly removed, yes. It isn't required, the main thing is that the copyvio is removed from the article. I'm not sure offhand why I didn't revdel that edit. Hut 8.5 21:15, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Lindbergh Lavista Corridor Coalition

Why did you delete this page Lindbergh Lavista Corridor Coalition? Material was not copyrighted. Facts are just facts regardless of sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LLCorridor (talkcontribs) 21:26, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Your decline of CSD for The Castle Convent School

Hi. With this edit you chose to "decline, A7 doesn't apply to schools and there's enough context to identify the subject". As you'll know, A7 "applies to any article about a real person, individual animal, commercial or non-commercial organization, web content, or organized event that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, with the exception of educational institutions." Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)'s WP:NSCHOOL says "For-profit educational organizations and institutions are considered commercial organizations and must satisfy those criteria." The Castle Convent School article says it "is a professionally managed co educational institution" (my emphasis). This page on its web site discusses fees, which to me indicates it is a for-profit school. What do you think? It's still an article with just the one line of prose and 2 sources, neither of which describe why the subject is important. Thanks. -Lopifalko (talk) 20:30, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

@Lopifalko: if it's a for-profit private school then A7 still doesn't apply, as a private school is still a school. A7 does apply to companies which provide educational services, as long as those services aren't done through a school, college, university etc, but this one does claim to be an educational institution so I think we'll have to act as if the exception for educational institutions applies. WP:CSD does say "Administrators should take care not to speedy delete pages or media except in the most obvious cases". I'm happy for you to nominate the article for deletion through WP:PROD or WP:AFD, it certainly isn't much of an article and the subject may well be non-notable. Articles on non-notable schools are often dealt with by redirecting the title to an article on education in wherever the school is. Hut 8.5 20:56, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the RevDel

Hi Hut 8.5, thank you for deleting the copyvio revisions on Sean McGuire. When created, the article was a copyvio so that's why I tagged it with G12. I wasn't sure if any material would remain, so thank you for sorting through it and rescuing the information that was acceptable. Hope you're well, Jip Orlando (talk) 22:48, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
