Season's greetings
Thank you for being one of the people who has made 2009 such an interesting and enlightening year for me. It has certainly had its challenges, but also many highlights. I wish you peace and contentment in 2010, and a joyous holiday season to you and yours.

Question: Articles 1530 BC xxxxBC etc.
Question: Articles 1530 BC xxxxBC etc.
Hello!
Would you please explain me why the wikipedia has nearly only christian reminiscents according to the article series 1530 BC. Why are there are no 1530 BCE - articles, respectively?
I would like to mention, that BC means Before Christ - which is a christian confession of faith and never a neutral appointment. Whereas BCE can be rendered Before Common Era or Before Christian Era alike, which is was more strong neutral appointment.
Would you please help me on this - or guide me where I may get help?
Sincerely --87.160.202.82 (talk) 14:39, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

- Hi Luk! Thank you for your kind answer:
- "Hi, I see that you have raised it at the correct place. My opinion is that BC being shorter and most widely used in the "real" world, you would have a hard time convincing everyone to switch to BCE. Should you gather a sufficient consensus that people use both systems, we could have someone create the corresponding redirections. As of yourself, you apparently can use them indistinctly on Wikipedia when you write a new article (even if I find this confusing). -- Luk talk 10:20, 15 January 2010 (UTC)"
- I would like to add, that once the english wikipedia _had_ both BCE and BC systems and IMHO has now changed towards a christian style. In most book or literature in general, concerning both Judaism and Islam, I see it different than you: The books, texts and articles on this - in the "real world" - rather use the _more neutral_ BCE and CE respectively (instead of the christian terms BC or AD). Its kind of a reminiscence to the christian supremacy claim over both "old" (sic!) judaism and islam!. Sincerely --87.160.198.91 (talk) 17:45, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of 'Mark Carder'
You deleted the page entitled 'Mark Carder'. Mark Carder is the artist who painted the official presidential painting of George W. Bush in 2008.[1] This clearly warrants a Wikipedia entry. IainUK (talk) 01:14, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of the Episerver
Hi Luk
wondering whay the page on Episerver has been removed from wikipedia? The last reference I could find was that it was removed by you, but that was 2 years ago. It does not seem right, since the page got removed earlier this week, so in early February 2010. Any help you can provde is much appreciated

Deletion of Talk Page
Why did you delete the talk page for File:CannabisSeeds.jpg? Unless the image itself just has not been deleted yet, the talk page contained the image-class template for WikiProject Cannabis. If the image has been deleted, why? (It is in the public domain). --Another Believer (Talk) 03:34, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for the response. However, deleting the talk page removed the image-class template that belonged to WikiProject Cannabis. Are we not supposed to be adding WikiProject templates to the talk pages of images? Or can the template be added to the talk page over at Commons? --Another Believer (Talk) 18:40, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Final discussion for Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people
Hello, I note that you have commented on the first phase of Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people
As this RFC closes, there are two proposals being considered:
- Proposal to Close This RfC
- Alternate proposal to close this RFC: we don't need a whole new layer of bureaucracy
Your opinion on this is welcome. Okip 03:20, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Editing blocked from IP
Hello Luk, A while back, you blocked editing from 198.189.140.0/22. I did request for an administrator to allow me to login with my account here a while back and my request was followed. Why is this IP blocked, though? This is a large higher educational institution (with several tens of thousands of students), and I assume there are others who would be interested in contributing to Wikipedia and who would be valuable contributors to it. JBFrenchhorn (talk) 19:20, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- Looking at my logs, someone was creating multiple accounts there used solely for vandalism. I can't really recall if it was widespread (eg: if the network was compromised and someone used it as a proxy) or if it was a student there. Since it's going to expire later this month anyway, I'm gonna lift it now. -- Luk talk 13:41, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Mmm my block was supposed to only block anonymous users, I guess my finger slipped. I have removed your IP Block exemption since it is no longer needed :). -- Luk talk 13:44, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. JBFrenchhorn (talk) 07:43, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Luk,
Would you mind checking my last edit at article Frédéric Chopin page. Several edits done by Noozgroop (talk were disruptive & had not been caught by other editors who brought changes afterward. In order to revert all of Noozgroop's edits, I went back to last by Graham87, then worked my way back reestablishing good revisions; however, I am not sure that I did well with your change of Chopin's 1847 photograph.
Cordialement, --Frania W. (talk) 20:59, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

expired block still in place somehow
See [2] Am I wrong or was this intended to expire a long time ago? For some reason it still shows up as an active block, and someone is asking for an unblock of the ip. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:07, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- The block expired, but there's a rangeblock on 170.213.0.0/16. You should probably ask J.delanoy :) -- Luk talk 08:59, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll do that. Is it just a software glitch that it still shows your block as active? Beeblebrox (talk) 18:44, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism Acts by User Sanam001
This is user [3] is involved in Vandalism activities. Please stop him. He's changing articles, before having proper discussions, reaching consensus. It is not a way to edit wikipedia. It is not at all the first time he's doing such vandal acts.90.46.32.29 (talk) 16:46, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- Please keep in mind that content disagreement is not vandalism. I unfortunately can't mediate disputes, but there are several ways of asking for help (for example asking for a third opinion) in these circumstances. -- Luk talk 17:17, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- He is abusing ethnic groups such as Ezhava and Nair by claiming that they were Sudra, their women were concubines and Nair men are like dogs. He is actively pushing forward with his hate speech for the past 3 months and no one is stopping him. And above all, he is using a University Library Ezproxy to edit wikipedia. Axxn (talk) 17:40, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- The third opinion has been done. People disagree with his statements, POV; but he's still continuing with his disruptive edits. It is not normal at all.90.46.32.29 (talk) 19:03, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- That is true. If you look at the Nair talk page, you can clearly see that the 3O has been done and people there very much disagree with his rampant POV pushing. Suresh.Varma.123 (talk) 02:22, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

My issue is the content, The issues of content dispute is an anthropological one and complex issue . Can we we work out a dispute resolution through an arbitration committe comprising of anthropologists/social scientists to comment the scientific validity of references cited by individual parties with dispute. I am ready to comply to it.--Sanam001 (talk) 18:26, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
Due to failure of resolution of content dispute using WP:30 and multi-party discussion and given the sensitivity of issue and tendency to detour in to personal allegations during objective content dispute, the best way may be formal mediation of content dispute. I kindly request Anandks007 and suresh.varma 123 to help me in taking the dispute resolution to next stage. I would be greatly thankful to the administrator if he could impress upon these users to go to the next level of dispute resolution so as to avoid future edit conflicts. Orphaned non-free image File:Czech Airlines logo 2007.png
Thanks for uploading File:Czech Airlines logo 2007.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. - Indeed oO. This is weird, the bot should never go through the same set of images twice, I'm sorry for the inconvenience... For now I'll assume this was either an error from my part (for example if 2 instances ran concurrently) or an issue with Wikipedia which told the bot the old image was still on the page. Rest assured that I have never encountered it before... :/ If/When I run it again, I'll be extra careful. Thanks a lot for the notice! -- Luk talk 12:39, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello Luk,
A vandal closely matching IPs and behavior associated here with Genesis vandalism has been targeting the olpc wiki for a year, and has recently become threatening. You concluded the {{prod}} on Maulana Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi.

Could you please check to see if the article that was prodded was about that individual? It it was could you userify it for me, to User:Geo Swan/review/Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi?

- I am going to add the reference I have, fix the inline URL that hasn't gone 404, and ask the person who placed the {{prod}} if the article still concerns them. Correct me if I am mistaken -- the rules for {{prod}} would authorize me to move the improved version back to article space, even if the prod nominator still objected? And if they objected strongly enough their option would be to initiate an {{afd}}?
- Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 15:30, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

User talk:Nimi61
Hello Luk. Back in 12 February 2008 you deleted User talk:Nimi61. I don't suppose that this long a time afterwards you either remember or care about this page, but I thought as a courtesy I should let you know that I have undeleted it. I have undeleted it for the following reasons: (1) we normally do not delete user talk pages unless there are quite exceptional reasons, and I can see no such exceptional reason in this case; (2) the editor has recently returned to editing after a break of over two years, and since the editor's history consists largely of creating unsuitable pages, it may be useful to have a record of the user's warnings in case the same pattern continues. If you do have a good reason for thinking the page should be deleted please let me know, and of course re-delete it. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:57, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Nops, go ahead :). It looks like someone requested the User Page to be deleted (I don't really remember what was the spirit of the community back then) and I extended the courtesy to the talk page. -- Luk talk 18:42, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Deletion of Tera Melos Wiki?
Hey Luk,
The Wiki page for the band Tera Melos was recently deleted and I wanted to know why. The reasoning was listed that it was "an article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject." So I'm assuming that this means the band is not seen as important? That's just not true. 1. Who's to say how important a band (or anything really) is? It's a personal opinion, and 2. This band has quite a following and should therefore be seen as important. It seems like the whole idea of Wikipedia (getting information to anyone about damn near anything) is kinda destroyed when something like this is taken out without reasoning besides personal opinion. Apparently the original deleter was this fellow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SchuminWeb.
Thank you and hopefully I can see that page back up soon :)

I'm sorry but "I don't think the band is big enough (yet) to warrant an article on Wikipedia." seems like a really badly justified reason to take something off Wikipedia... Plus, Tera Melos definitely meets the "criterion for bands" defined by Wikipedia. Do your research. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.247.235.178 (talk) 14:40, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- Replying here, since it appears your IP is dynamic. The last part of my comment was merely my personal opinion and not the reason why the content was deleted. The deletion has been carried under the speedy deletion process:
“ | The criteria for speedy deletion specify the only cases in which administrators have broad consensus support to, at their discretion, bypass deletion discussion and immediately delete Wikipedia pages or media.(...)
|
” |
- There is no research to be done. If the article (as it did at the time) doesn't assert the significance of the subject, it shouldn't be kept (or it would be impossible to manage and would deleted very quickly as not meeting the notability criteria. Cheers! -- Luk talk 15:09, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Tera Melos Wiki
Alright not exactly how to directly respond to your reply so this will have to do for now.
After doing some simple google work I've found 4 (though finding more would be easy) "non-trivial published works" relating to the band.
http://www.wired.com/underwire/2010/07/tera-melos/ http://musicremedy.com/t/tera-melos/album/patagonian-rats-8835.html http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/5802/Tera-Melos-Tera-Melos/ http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=208107
These clearly shows that the band "has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician or ensemble itself and reliable." So obviously the Wiki should be put up again.
Thank you,
Alek —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.211.15.77 (talk) 20:01, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Tera Melos page deletion
I realize you are following up on schuminwebb's work but I would like to know why the page was not flagged for deletion first, thus giving a chance for cleanup. A band with over 1,000,000 plays on last.fm is significant (that only just begins to cover the matter, but it is a reliable site that simply shows you what people listen are listening to). I do not understand why Tera Melos was singled out in this case. Cyclopseslayer (talk) 07:46, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

The Tera Melos page should not have been deleted. So is there any way you can undo that and put the information back up? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.137.229.142 (talk) 07:18, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of Parle Magazine Page
Hi there, I'm unaware as to why the page for Parle Magazine was deleted. I was working on it and then came back to check and it was gone. Please forward me any information as to how I may retrieve this page back, thank you very much. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tyleranthonyyang (talk • contribs) 22:23, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

- As it stood, the article didn't meet the criteria for inclusion. I have no personal opinion on the subject of the article since it went through speedy deletion. If you wish to bring it up to our standards without restarting from scratch, You may register an account, and I will move it to your userspace sp you can work on it. Cheers. -- Luk talk 12:36, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Guinea Page Deleted
I'd like to ask your reasons for deleting the page on the ethnic slur "guinea"...was it simply offensive to you, lacking enough relevance or what? Sauceyboy (talk) 07:01, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Something on this page is putting it into CAT:CSD, the list of pages tagged for speedy deletion. At a quick look, I can't see what; but you might want to fix it before the page gets zapped. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:49, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- Forget it - been fixed. There was some funny transclusion in the SPI pages that was confusing things. JohnCD (talk) 20:06, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Dino Elephante should not have been deleted. His brother John may be more famous, but Dino made quite a name for himself as a professional musician and producer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.250.79.235 (talk) 08:55, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Luk,
I liked the way you made sub-pages to your page. Refer : https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/User:Luk#Other_Stuff
