This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Thursday, West Virginia, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Thursday West Virginia. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. MadmanBot (talk) 14:43, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Jenkinjones, West Virginia has been reverted.
Your edit here to Jenkinjones, West Virginia was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u4gpeYpAiw, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0ThhuH9J8w) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 14:29, 29 March 2012 (UTC) I understand and will comply. As a note, Jenkinjones are freakishly remote. The probability that a video, I made on a flip after driving 9 hours to get there serving a violation of copyright is highly improbable. HOWEVER, I will of course comply as I need to wait a few more days before I have the rights to upload media. I will strive to preserve these places to the best of my ability. The recert will be removed as none of the material I linked to could be considered an infringement of any copyright. I will however, NOT include the video links as I would enjoy uploading these for viewingCoal town guy (talk) 14:39, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's generally a bad idea to link to YouTube, since it trips a wide variety of bots that are in place to deal with the problems generated by such links (you can imagine the possibilities). Best to upload, as you intend, so the copyright is unambiguously cleared. Acroterion (talk) 16:50, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MUCH apprciated, there are a few towns that are called coal towns due to their proximity, but no coal was mined in that area, nor were there any mines there, HOWEVER, LOTS of miners lived there. I have also seen a few redundant passages on County pages where there is a "other towns" section and these also appear in the Uni9ncorporated template, I think I can condense thiose as well. Otherwise, KLOTS and LOTS of coal towns need to be added. WHEN I get my permissions, I own just over 1000 postmarks from WV and many are of course coal towns. I can add those as sort of a proof of concept that towns of that name did existCoal town guy (talk) 17:04, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Generally, if a place had a post office, it's prima facie notable, although there might not be enough sourced information for a stand-alone article in many cases. Acroterion (talk) 02:26, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Noticed a lot of your edit summaries start with four tildes. There's no need to do this. You only need to sign edits you make to article or user talk pages, and you do that after the text you enter, not in the edit summary. Total-MAdMaN (talk) 16:35, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am signing because I am adding alot of new pages. Unincorprated communities etc etc However, in a new page, where would I "sign"Coal town guy (talk) 16:53, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to sign in your edit summaries. The article's history page shows who has made edits to the article. Total-MAdMaN (talk) 17:05, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Towns coords

[edit]

Hi - nice job with the WV town articles. If you don't mind, I noticed that the USGS pages also include coordinates of each, so adding those to the articles would be a good idea. See what I have done here and here for examples. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Cheers! "Pepper" @ 18:59, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I will make sure to do so and thanks for the examples. There are so very many places that are unincorprated that at this point, I feel like I am just trying to keep afloat documenting places I recall as a kid or from my relatives. My next adventure will be to create the Coal Town Page where there is an agreed upon Wikipedia definition for a coal town, and its not easy.....much of the literature is ciontradictory and at times, wrong. Very much appreciate the advice and I am rather new at this, thanks againCoal town guy (talk) 19:07, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for the articles about the unincorporated communities in West Virginia RFD (talk) 20:01, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I came across the subject article on new page patrol. Currently Venus, West Virginia redirects to Gary, West Virginia, which according to the article is also in McDowell County. I'm not familiar with West Virginia geography; are these the same place? If so, the page with "Mcdowell County" should be moved to the page without the county identification. I think WP:RM is the only way a non-admin can do this. Let me know and I can help list it at RM if necessary. Cheers! —KuyaBriBriTalk 14:46, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled right

[edit]

Hello again. In light of the many articles you have created in a short amount of time, I was wondering if you would consider getting the autopatrolled right on your account (it may be called a "right" but in reality all of our Wikipedia user rights are privileges). Having this "right" does not necessarily benefit you directly, but it would lighten the workload on new page patrollers like me by automatically saying that an article created by you is not going to be vandalism, copyright infringement, a BLP violation, or otherwise inappropriate for Wikipedia. In order to get the autopatrolled right, you need to go to WP:AUTOPATROLLED and follow the instructions for requesting it. Alternatively, with your permission, I can request it for you. Once the request is made, an administrator will take a close look at your contributions and determine if you can be trusted with the user right. I should note that the short length of time your account has been registered will work against you, but the worst that the evaluating administrator(s) can say is no. Take a look at the page for more information and let me know if this is something you might be interested in. Cheers! —KuyaBriBriTalk 16:22, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and flipped the autopatrolled switch. It makes your new articles show up in white on Special:NewPages so new page patrollers can see that your articles don't have to be checked. Acroterion (talk) 18:17, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Penile, Kentucky

[edit]

While tagging your latest batch of unincorporated communities in Kentucky, I checked out the aforementioned Penile, Kentucky. It actually redirects to Penile, Louisville, which calls it a neighborhood of Louisville. That's not surprising; basically everything in Jefferson County is a neighborhood of Louisville by now. The problem is, now we have that article as well as Penile, Jefferson County, Kentucky, which you created. I can't imagine that they are not the same place. The content of the two needs to be merged instead of having two articles on the same subject. The proper title is probably Penile, Louisville, so if you wouldn't mind, could you merge the content from your new article into that one and leave a redirect to Penile, Louisville at Penile, Jefferson County, Kentucky? Island City, Kentucky

While checking new Kentucky-related articles, I found Island City, Kentucky, created by November Klause (talk · contribs). Someone else tagged it as having no reliable sources. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Forest Hills, Wood COunty, West Virginia. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Forest Hills, Wood County, West Virginia. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Forest Hills, Wood County, West Virginia - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Buggie111 (talk) 15:49, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for creating articles on lots of smaller communities. Sometimes it is worth mentioning in these articles whether a railroad line serves the community (or once did), and whether a numbered highway goes through it. If you do a quick search for the community's name on Google News at http://news.google.com/ , you may find some interesting facts that you can use to expand the article. My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

It sounds like you have had a few adventures in the mines!

I'd very much like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia. Hey, dude. Saw the rather contentious discussion about this. Don't let it get you down. Copyright on WP is a major pain. Unless I can prove 100% that an image was published before 1923, that the author died more than 100 years ago, or that there is a rock-solid notice of free-use permission, I don't even mess with it. I'd recommend that strategy to you as well. It isn't worth the fight in most other cases. I went back-and-forth on three separate occasions with an editor who told me I couldn't claim fair use on a portrait because the editor knew there must be a free equivalent out there since the subject served in the military and as a federal judge. The editor could not produce such an image, but claimed the burden of proof was on me to prove there wasn't such an image, which is, of course, impossible. Don't sweat this kind of stuff. Your other contributions are too important to the project to get bogged down in the quagmire of copyright. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 15:13, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. Its the improper application of a standard that destroyed a town I played as a child and to see it here, its....less than pleasing. However, I will take heed of your words and I very much appreciate them. Coal town guy (talk) 15:38, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The reliable list of all places counted by the 2010 census is here; CDPs are under "places", and the state-based files page has the lists for WV and KY. Actually, it looks like you stumbled onto an error in the GNIS. Montgomery should be listed in Fayette, not Putnam. Little Kentucky places

[edit]

Looks like your drive to document little places all over Kentucky is still going well. Kudos on that. My latest project (a massive rewrite of the article on Vice-President and native Kentuckian Alben W. Barkley) has brought me to Wheel, Kentucky, his Graves County birthplace, which is sadly lacking an article. Could you remedy this for me so that I'll have something to link to when I deploy the rewritten article? I'll add the relevant notable natives section with a cite once you're done. Thanks again for all you do. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 15:44, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another request: Do you have any information on the community of Rosslyn in Powell County, Kentucky? After being caught in a flash flood, Governor Bert T. Combs' body was found near there. While that probably doesn't rise to the level of something that should be mentioned in a Rosslyn, Kentucky article, it would allow me to create a solid incoming link for the article. Combs is high on my list of articles to target for FA promotion, so creating a blue link for a significant place in Combs' life would also be a benefit. New article needs attention

[edit]

Just noticed that another user created Colville, Kentucky, but he or she was not so thorough as to add categories, an infobox, a county-level navbox, etc. Could you drop by and give this article "the treatment", which I'm sure you can almost do in your sleep by now? Thanks. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 14:09, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you also do this for Olmstead, Kentucky, newly created by Doncram (talk · contribs)? I've actually been to Olmstead a few times. Ir's the kind of place that, if you've been there, it was because you were going there; it sure isn't on the way to anywhere else! Acdixon (talk · contribs) 13:24, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take care of most of it; I'm just going through his contributions, and it might be confusing if multiple people were working on it simultaneously. I'll try to remember to tell you when I'm done, because there will surely be pages that I missed, and I expect that you'll be able to find them. On the coal towns category — it's not going to be deleted. I'm simply asking for its name to be changed, since categories for common nouns are supposed to be plural, not singular. Once an administrator accepts the request, a bot should be instructed to go around to all of the articles that are presently in the category and move each one from the old name to the new. The unincorporated community of Wisconsin, Kentucky, in Knott County

[edit]

Hi-In Knott County, Kentucky, there is supposed to be an unincorporated community called: Wisconsin, Kentucky-GNIS is 517015. I am wondering if this another name for Wiscoal, Kentucky which is also in Knott County. I thought you might be interested-thank you for yourwork with Wikipedia-RFD (talk) 13:17, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wisconsin was the namesake of the Wisconsin Coal Company. However, the community was named Wiscoal. They are ALMOSt the same because GNIS has zero data for them as far as local coordinates. Locals know it, but GNIS does not. We would need to find a source or ref to link the two...which I have tried. The closest I got was the KY coal heritage site. BUT, the link is not explicit....Coal town guy (talk) 13:49, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi-A suggestion-you could e-mail the government agency that operates the GNIS database. They may be able to help concerning Wisconsin, KY-many thanks-RFD (talk) 00:32, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi-Juddville, Wisconsin in Door County, Wisconsin-if there is any information. The GNIS only lists it as a cemetery not an unincorporated community. Communities in Wisconsin

[edit]

Hi! I wonder at times how many unincorporated communities existed in Wisconsin that did not make it to the GNIS or the Wisconsin Historical Society. I am thinking about the lumber, railroad, and lead mining industries in the state, etc. I am think also the Native Americans who had their communities also especially on the reservations that never made it to GNIS or the Wisconsin Historical Society. The various counties of Wisconsin have histories about the various towns, city, villages and the unincorporated communities so that helps-Wood County, Wisconsin is a good example. Many thanks-RFD (talk) 18:51, 1 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Places for the GNIS

[edit]

I do have a few places that I want in the GNIS, now that you mention it. I've talked to Lou Yost before, and pointed out a few missing communities in the GNIS (some of which were even on USGS topographic maps), though I haven't mentioned any in a while. I just sent him a few more from Wisconsin, and if I come across any others I'll mention those too (I know there are places missing in other states, I just can't think of them right now). Most of the missing places I find are ones I see on county maps while looking up other places, so references shouldn't be an issue. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 18:11, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This could be a VERY good thing. There are many places that I know, played in etc etc which should be in GNIS. You should have heard him when I said 200+ places...Coal town guy (talk) 18:13, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I figured you have a ton of places to add to the GNIS, though 200+ is still a lot. I never find more than a few at a time, but then again I haven't lived around them like you have. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 18:30, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I sent him 3 that are rather out of the way. Paint Creek, Take In Hollow and the populated place of Eight in McDowell County. There are remains of it, and we do have coordinates for the PO that closed in 36....but walking up the Cucumber River and finding it was rather cool.Coal town guy (talk) 18:32, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Bitch Creek Cow Camp, Idaho has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence that this is a "populated place" and therefore considered notable as such; no evidence that it has any notability. Yes, it exists, it's on the map ... but that's not enough.
FALSE, its in the GNIS survey and is part of the Bitch Creek Region and, yes, it does meet the requirements.Coal town guy (talk) 17:47, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PamD 15:55, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the PROD and you are correct. Being on the map is the notability requirement for a place. BTW, you could have removed the PROD, too. You cannot remove a nomination for AfD or a speedy delete template, but removal of the template is how you contest a PROD. FYI. Gtwfan52 (talk) 17:54, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are really doing some jammin work there, fella. I am not able to dedicate very much time to wikiland these days due to some very pressing RL things. Just give me a lead and I will be happy to crank out some material. BTW, I think WP:USCITY might have some guidance for you in raising up the rating of articles about settlements. Redirects

[edit]

Hello,

I've taken the liberty of creating some redirects for pages you create. It seems none of your pages have (or, perhaps more accurately, had) the standard two-letter state abbreviation redirects, e.g., "Wakefield, MA" redirecting to "Wakefield, Massachusetts." As you can probably see by my contribs page, I've done quite a few of them. They literally only take about two seconds to create.

I see you have quite the affection for small towns with very unusual or humorous sounding names — as a part-time New Englander, I think I'd have to say my favorite so far is Bread Loaf, Vermont.

If there's anything else I can do to be of assistance, please don't hesitate to drop me a line!
RedSoxFan274 (talk~contribs) 09:11, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I was just following the form was all. I actually first stumbled upon it when I looked up a town you wrote the article for using that form and it didn't redirect as usual. That was actually the first time I had ever encountered that. If you see it as a hindrance, by all means, I'll refrain, but I don't see how it can do any harm in any way.
RedSoxFan274 (talk~contribs) 23:04, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, no, please don't think I was ever offended, by no means. As you say yourself, you're still learning, and it was an honest mistake—I've had more than my fair share of those, that's for sure! Glad this was sorted out.

Jenkinjones store

[edit]

Just to be clear — do you mean the Pocahontas Fuel Company Store and Office Buildings, or are you talking about a different place? Furthermore, I'm somewhat confused about what you want to do; are you asking about uploading the photos that you already have, or did you mean something else? I'm also not clear why poverty or vandalism would be an issue. If you can help me understand better what you mean, I'll be able to give you a more relevant response. Nyttend (talk) 14:21, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, if you have photos of vandalised buildings in impoverished places, there's nothing wrong with uploading them. Look at many of the photos for places in Gary at National Register of Historic Places listings in Lake County, Indiana, such as Van Buren Terrace and the Gary Public Schools Memorial Auditorium; it's just as important to get images of these places as it is the more prosperous and better-maintained sites. Nyttend (talk) 14:31, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, feel free to upload the photos and add them to the Store and Office Buildings article, as well as the McDowell County NRHP list and any other pages where they might be relevant. As far as the videos: be careful. They're quite fine by policy, but there are some other difficulties with them. Some editors prefer copyleft over quality service to our readers, so we're forced to upload all videos in the rare ogg format. Moreover, I've never seen them used in articles; while this is probably because we don't have many videos, it does mean that I can't provide you any examples of where videos have been used well. As long as you can figure out how to convert your videos into ogg, they'll definitely be fine at Commons, however. Nyttend (talk) 14:44, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

on talk page stalking

[edit]

Almost anyone who has been here a while stalks some other editors talk pages. I stalk a bunch! And that is fine; it provides a great way to learn how things work around Wikipedia, and an opportunity to learn from other people's mistakes. I would, however, like you to remove the last comment you posted on my talk page. I don't mind you replying to people on my talk page, but please start it with a notice that you are not me (something like: (talk page stalker)), and please, please...use a tone like the answers that are given at Teahouse. Be friendly, not confrontational, and be as positive as you can in your answer. I actually kind of appreciate you watching, because I am not here as much as I would like to be anymore; but if someone needs their ass chewed for something they posted on my talk page, I would prefer to be the one that does it. No worries, my man, I am not mad at you or anything like that. Just please remove that last thing you wrote. Thanks....off to work now! Happy editing!

I will most likely go to that fellas talk page tonite and explain again why it is actually better not to have any connection to the place you are writing about. But I am thinking he is what we call a WP:SPA and as such, probably won't be interested in what makes for a good edit at his school's page. I am thinking all he wants to do is put what he wants in there.

Also, if you see anything really horrid on my talk page, you can always use the email thingie on here to let me know and I can usually take a quick look no matter what I am doing. I get my email almost immediately. Gtwfan52 (talk) 18:30, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ubet, Montana

[edit]

Hi-I came across some photos about what used to be Ubet, Montana. There is an airport on the former townsite. There was also a photo of a postmark for Ubet, Montana. Any additional informations, etc., about Ubet, Montana would be appreciated. I checked some ghost town websites and there is no information about Ubet, Montana. I will let OrangeMike know that I contacted you about Ubet, Montana. Thanks again-RFD (talk) 12:17, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It needs some work, but here is what I have found. Garneill, which is the historical reference, has a cemetery also called, the Ubet cemetery. BUT, the real deal is that Judith Gap Post Office was originally established as the Ubet Post office. SO, Judith Gap is in Wheatland County, The cemetery is in Judith Basin County and Garneill, the historic reference is in Fergus county. SO, we need to get a consensus, IMO, and I stress, IMO, the "tradition" has been that the PO should be the indicator of a town, SO, that means that this place is a former name for Judith Gap. BONUS: If you take a look at the Judith Gap PO entry in GNIS, it lays down a history of the Ubet PO. IF, there are no objections, Ubet would then need to be in Wheatland County. We will need some help moving the article. Does this sound good?Coal town guy (talk) 13:27, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
