Hi Xaosflux, I'll adopt the both boxes mentioned above, do we have an bot or something to bypass the redirects? Best Wishes! CharonX/talk 17:38, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks alot! CharonX/talk 17:58, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I appreciate your ruling, but just wanted to note that {{inactive}} is not really applicable to Portals. It actually results in a display that says "this WikiProject is believed to be inactive", so it doesn't really work. Portals don't really need to be "active", since they aren't a collaboration of editors so much as a entry point to the topic for users. No complaints though.--Doug.(talk contribs) 04:47, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

You may have intended {{historical}}.--Doug.(talk contribs) 05:07, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello Xasflux, according to the log for Vanessa Anne Hudgens, you changed the protection level for this page on September 8 to set an expiry date. Just so you know, the page was requested on RFPP for reducing the protection level to semi-protection, and I have done so, as the page has been fully-protected for over a month. You may reverse my action if you wish. As you were the admin who changed the recent protection, I thought it was best that you knew. Acalamari 16:43, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. Glad the note was appreciated. :) Acalamari 02:01, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

Saw your post to unicyclegirl. The problem with vandalism, it is usually made up of three types. Humorous is one. Then there are guys who have a dogma or a rigid belief and post BS that backs up their postion. And three, by far the most numerous, is from yuppie scum that are dead set on rewiting the history of Los Angeles, replacing historical fact with gibberish. I always say, yuppies should keep their hands off history and stick to something they know, like writing bad scripts and/or bar-hopping. Garagehero 08:52, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Protected pages

I noticed you've gone through indefinitely protected pages on what you call a "clean up" and set dates for the protection to expire. As well intentioned as it may be, I don't believe it is wise to set an expiration date on an article that was fully protected due to edit warring. That tends to defeat the purpose, especially when a page such as Rickroll‎ was protected to preserve an apparent consensus at deletion review. - auburnpilot talk 02:10, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

replied on your talk. — xaosflux Talk 02:42, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
I must apologize, as it appears I read through the logs a bit too fast. Looking at the dates you set, I misread the 2008-10-31 expiration dates as 2007-10-31. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why you had set the expiration to expire so soon (an expiration that would have passed just 3 hours ago). Seeing how far in the future they are actually set to expire, many not for months or even years, there's nothing that needs to be reversed or changed. Thanks for the quick reply, - auburnpilot talk 03:02, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks...

...for the heads-up on the table formatting in the thank you notes. Argh! Serves me right for lifting the template from someone else. Dppowell 02:55, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair enough. I suppose you could have tagged it with {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed}} instead of removing the original Replaceable fair use template, but I'll assume good faith on your part and leave it at that. -- Chris Btalk 12:33, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Sagbliss

I tried to get the Foundation involved (again), but Cary said it was manageable by admins. That was on October 28. Since then, she's made a number of legal threats, and it might be best to contact the Foundation (specifically Cary, since he's dealt with this user before) about this again. Nishkid64 (talk) 04:14, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, she keeps claiming I'm in some sort of conspiracy. Meanwhile, she's pestering Riana over the whole issue (Riana made a simple editprotected request, and now she's constantly e-mailing her). Nishkid64 (talk) 04:25, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Fred Thompson

Could you please take another look at the debate on the Fred Thompson talk page and make some sort of suggestion as to what it would take to unprotect the page? The regular media might pick up the story on the suppresion of numerous cited articles claiming notability of the age difference, the way they did before with Thompson's talk page. Hi Xaosflux/Archive25! I see you're from Florida. If you're in the Orlando area, please check out this brief survey. I'm looking to start a meet-up of CopyNight, a monthly social discussion of copyright and related issues (like Wikipedia, Creative Commons, and open source). If that sounds neat, please answer this short survey to help with scheduling the event. Thanks! --Gavin Baker 12:36, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Year long protection?

Hi, I was looking at Simon Wessely and I saw it was protected by you until October 2008? Did something happen to it? I saw that Violet Blue (author) was also not set to be useable until 2008 also? I was reading Wessely's page when I noticed. • Lawrence Cohen 07:45, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

My recent change in the protection level of this article was only a cursory cleanup of articles that were protected forever. I set an expiration date so that it would eventually become editable again. Other then wanting to remove the indefinite protections from the protected pages list, I have no specific interest in this page. Unprotection can be requested from the admin that originally protected the article, and or on Requests for Page (Un)Protections. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 00:26, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Indefinitely protected article

I'm curious as to why Bryten Goss has been indefinitely protected. There's been no edit warring and he doesn't seem a particularly controversial subject. I had started a clean-up of the article (added an infobox + some categories, etc.), but when I came back to it I found it protected. I'm asking you in addition to Vishal (who initially protected it) because he hasn't edited for a while so I figured he might be on a wikibreak or something. Thanks, Precious Roy 15:01, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

The creator's web reference suggests that they may be more of a translator then the original creator. I have no personal interest in this article, and deleted 2 other pages by that editor, but it feels like they are trying to be productive. Should this assumtion not be right, OR is not a speedy deletion criteria. {{prod}} may be effetive is this is a drive by contributor, if not there is always AFD. — xaosflux Talk 04:08, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Can you please lock the Whitechapel murders article (redirected if it's been reverted) and redirect the discussion about the lock to the discussion on the Jack the Ripper article? The person who was blind reverting the JTR article to get it back to his own preferred way of handling it just up and decided to make his own, competing article because the main one is locked, in violation of WP:FORK and a number of other policies. I'm not quit sure what that means but I could sure use the help. I hope that you keep in touch and if you see something that would be cool or that needs to be on my page or whatever, please feel free to have fun with it on my page. non native student work on wikipedia

I'd like to discuss the multiple deletions of my student's work (Satoe2158) in her user page. I am teaching students for whom English is a second language, so am asking them to use their user space to construct their articles which will then be moved to the namespace. The first deletion was by User:hmwith and occurred approximately 20 minutes after she had copied a portion of the Uzbekistan-Japan_Center, while she was still logged in.

(I just noticed that you also deleted portions of my student's user page and so am appending this note here)

The second deletion by User:Dlohcierekim occurred after a smaller section had been inserted and the inital process of converting the explanation so as to provide a template for an appropriate article, which was done at the end of class to give the student some basis to complete the first steps of the assignment. There was no warnings or discussion for the Uzbekistan-Japan_Center, so it certainly appears to be an appropriate model, but if there are problems, they should be addressed in the authentic namespace and not going into a student's personal user page. I appreciate the problems with spamming and vandalism, but for constructing an article and having it proofread by a native speaker, the sandbox is not a feasible alternative. Furthermore, the Minamata Open Center is an non-profit academic center, established by the Japanese Ministry of Education, to research Minamata disease, so I believe that it fulfills the requirements of inclusion in the wikipedia.

Please advise if there is an alternative process to this, the other students who are working with wikipedia are utilizing the same process and do not seem to be having the same scrutiny applied.

I'd also note that in the WP:SPEEDY speedy deletion section it specifically notes that

Testing is permitted in the sandbox and in users' own user space. If this is not official Wikipedia policy, please let me know. Tomeiter 08:16, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I can not find where I've deleted any pages from this userspace, please provide me a link to the deletion log if I've missed it. Nonetheless I've reviewed these pages, restored the deleted content, and helped to organize it in to a sandbox that will be less likely to be tagged as a deletion candidate. I've also left Satoe2158 a note about the whole thing at User_talk:Satoe2158#Page_Deletions. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 12:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Question, to my knowledge, a checkuser was not performed for [1] it was withdrawn by the user who submitted it because of feedback. I would like to see you correct your comment " This is a recently closed case, where checkuser was performed and cleared the suspect. Deleting this page won't undo the actions. " and remove the part where it says checkuser was performed. I don't have you on my watchlist so if you could let me know on my talk page that you responded here, I'd appreciate it. --Maniwar (talk) 17:32, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to nit-pick, but the user was not cleared. The case was withdrawn by the editor. Because of that, it was then closed. I think that one comment is deceptive and misleading making it seem that the user was cleared, but that is not the case. There is a vast difference between being cleared and having the case withdrawn. Not trying to be a pain, but I am a stickler for facts, and the comment "...the suspect was cleared" is not accurate. Cheers! --Maniwar (talk) 20:04, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Why was this done? Courtesy blanks are supposed to be done at the request of the user affected, not just because other people in an MfD think they might want it. And why was the page protected as well? -Amarkov moo! 05:26, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

The courtesy blanking was done to reduce the emotional distress that this page is apparently causing. The protection is temporary and in place to also help reduce the distress from this page. No immediate edits should be needed on that page, as it is already closed. The blanking is simply a new revision, with all of the information safely stored in the revision table in case anyone really wants to read it again. As per the MFD, if User talk:TTN wants this unblanked, then I support that, they seem to have gotten on with the business of writing the encyclopedia, can't the rest of us? — xaosflux Talk 06:57, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Open Source Resource Center

Hi,

I am Iftikhar Ahmad (Database Technologies Expert) working at Open Source Resource Center (OSRC). The Open Source Resource Center (OSRC) is a project of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), Ministry of Information Technology. It is based in Islamabad, the federal capital of Pakistan. The project began in 2003 with an objective to promote and support open source initiatives in the country.; a project of Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Ministry of Information Technology.

I added a page about OSRC in wikipedia, but it has been deleted for some reason which I dont know. Please, allow me to add the OSRC page in wikipedia. For further references, please visit:

Website URL: http://www.osrc.org.pk, http://www.pseb.org.pk Contact Me URL: http://www.osrc.org.pk/component/option,com_contact/task,view/contact_id,2/Itemid,3/

I would appreciate your kind considerations in this regard.

Best Regards, Iftikhar Ahmad Database Technologies Expert Open Source Resource Center Pakistan Software Export Board Ministry of Information Technology Islamabad, Pakistan Office: +92-51-9208748 Email: iahmad@pseb.org.pk URL: www.osrc.org.pk

Thank you

I think that was my third attempt to get that image deleted, seeing as the first two were wikilawyered around so that the closing admins of both the IFD and the DRV were convinced it passed the NFCC when it really didn't. Will (talk) 16:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Image:AnonymousDemotivator.jpg

Image:AnonymousDemotivator.jpg, which you deleted, had an IfD discussion which was closed as keep on 2008-03-01, and a deletion review which was closed as no consensus to overturn earlier today. I had not participated in either debate, and would not have thought further about it if either of the two had been closed as delete. However, they were not, and I do not feel it is right that an editor single-handedly overturns this result. I would have preferred to hear your response first, but since you have stated that you are going to be inactive, I am constrained to take this to WP:ANI. Ayla (talk) 17:31, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

In case you happen to be active, please see the discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Image:AnonymousDemotivator.jpg. Thanks. Ayla (talk) 17:47, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I have marked off the issue as resolved, so you need not worry about it. Sorry if I caused any inconvenience. Ayla (talk) 22:29, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Removing this image and immediately deleting as an orphan fair use is totally wrong. Use of the image was upheld in deletion review. The next step in the dispute resolution process should be followed. I restored the image and replaced it in the article. Please do the right thing if you wish to keep discussion on the use of this image going. -Thanks Nv8200p talk 01:27, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I will not be acting anymore on this issue, too much of a headache. FWIW my deletion was as a result of agreeing with the CSD nominator, not as an WP:IAR move against prior closures. It would be helpful for everyone in the future if some sort of {{oldxfd}} tags were on that image. — xaosflux Talk 01:42, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
I understand. Sorry for the accusation of impropriety. The CSD tag that was on there was not quite kosher I don't think. It was placed on the image on Mar 8 but was dated as Mar 3. Maybe the tagger thought that was legitimate as he had put a "no source" tag on the image on Mar 2, but I don't know. -Regards Nv8200p talk 05:02, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
