Welcome

[edit]

Nice to have a new chemistry editor at WIkipedia. Lots of people can address questions you might have, which are readily posed on the talk pages, such as Talk:Organosulfur compounds. Here you can present more general comments about gaps or suggestions. One step that is helpful to fellow editors is to describe yourself and your intentions on your user page. It is obviously helpful and collegial to describe oneself and one's perspectives, even briefly. Good luck, --Smokefoot (talk) 13:46, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Me2S3

[edit]

Re "Can anyone begin a new entry for dimethyl trisulfide?" Great idea: You start. See if you can do this without ref to E. Block? I'd be glad to help.--Smokefoot (talk) 02:32, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Check this out

[edit]

Nice job on Me2S3. As you seem to sense, Wikipedia prefers secondary sources (WP:SECONDARY) . Some editors, academic wannabes and students who lack perspective, do not follow this guideline because they lack perspective. We have no article on dithiins either.--Smokefoot (talk) 12:58, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thiosulfinates

[edit]

Even though they have not been authored by Bloch, there are useful reviews of thiosulfinates. Please check out WP:SECONDARY. It is a service to the readers to cite such broad sources, and the ability to do so reflects well on the editor! --Smokefoot (talk) 23:53, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Great photos

[edit]

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia from me too, and thank you particularly for the beautiful photographs! Just one thought: have you considered uploading your pictures on Commons instead? I'm sure many of these photographs would be very useful for other projects too – e.g. Wikipedias in other languages – and having the files on Commons would make them much easier for others to find and use. Best regards, – Fut.Perf. 11:55, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Garlic: Allium family allergy

[edit]

Your edit of April 21, 2012, of Garlic, added a reference for "Some people suffer from allergies to garlic and other plants in the allium family." The reference is Block, E. (2010). Garlic and Other Alliums: The Lore and the Science. Royal Society of Chemistry. ISBN 0-85404-190-7.. I searched within this Google book for the word "allergy" — the word is found 11 times. There is definite reference to garlic allergy on page 288, but I don't think there is a reference to other plants. I'm writing to you about this because allium is a genus, not a family. The family is Amaryllidaceae. I think we should remove "and other plants in the allium family" and leave your reference in. What do you think? —Anomalocaris (talk) 18:06, 3 March 2013 (UTC) You are correct concerning genus/family usage. This has been corrected in both the garlic and onion articles. I checked the book reference you cite and did find mention of allergic-type response to onions on page 288. This, and additional literature information has now been added to the onion Wiki page [1]. Thanks for pointing out my errors! Dolly442 (talk) 19:06, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ernest Guenther Award

[edit]

I see in your edit summary that you requested that we add links to the German and Portuguese versions. We can do that pretty easily if we know where they are, but as I don't speak German or Portuguese I don't know how to find them myself — could you advise me of the titles? Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 18:00, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I found them. Turns out that the German title just uses the word "award" instead of a German translation — not what I expected, but it made it easier to find than I thought it would be. Thanks, I'll look after interlinking them now. Bearcat (talk) 18:08, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Docking theory of olfaction

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Docking theory of olfaction. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Shape theory of olfaction. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Shape theory of olfaction. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. PamD 09:25, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Having first nominated it for speedy deletion I then reconsidered, but what needs to happen now is that you add any new material from your new article into the existing article, and we then do a proper Requested move to change the title of the long-standing article to the new title. We do not want to lose the work which many editors have done over 13 years in creating the existing article at Shape theory of olfaction. I think it was a mistake for your draft article to be moved into mainspace, as this was the wrong way to go about changing things. @CASSIOPEIA: for info. PamD 10:16, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Docking theory of olfaction moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Docking theory of olfaction, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 10:44, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dolly442, Greetings to you. I have reviewed your article but after the conversation with Pam D - see Duplicate article creation, it would be better for you to add the information and sources from Draft:Docking theory of olfaction to Shape theory of olfaction. Once you have done that then (1) insert {{Db-g7}} on top of Draft:Docking theory of olfaction and put "author request to delete the article" on edit summary before saving. (2) inform me when it is done, and I will rename the page from "Shape theory of olfaction" to "Docking theory of olfaction". Pls let me know if anything is unclear. Thank you. The file File:ChemDraw structure of methaneseleninic acid.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Dolly442/Thiarubrine requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from {{{value1}}}. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". File permission problem with File:Chester James Cavallito photo 1996.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Chester James Cavallito photo 1996.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 15:03, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
