Eritoran

Hi Ed! The reference you added to the lead of Eritoran seems to be invalid (#4, see refs section). Could you please fix it? Thanks, ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 15:41, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Too new for the DOI to be active yet, I guess. I have filled in the details manually. Thanks for catching it. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:03, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Move a page please

Could you please move acyl chloride to acyl halide? It seems like acyl chlorides are more important than all the others and no reason is given why. As an IP editor once wrote:

"I know, right? The article claims this specific class of compound to be more important than any other, then doesn't bother to explain why. I think the distinction is silly. " 2602:304:CE23:C319:F8EB:899B:C5C1:3F53 (talk) 22:11, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

The article currently titled "acyl chloride" cannot be moved to the title "acyl halide" because there is already a separate article using that title. Merging the content of the two articles is reasonable, but not really necessary, in my opinion. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:37, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Taxadiene

Hey thanks for your work on Taxadiene. How did you get a chem diagram for that one? Also I need some help if you are able. I tried to start some other pages (on my profile page) but some user deleted them all. Seems unjustified, as they all had pubchem and chemspider pages linked. If you could help me generate images for these pages, or revert their deletions, or help somehow, it would be awesome. ThanksJatlas (talk) 21:31, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jatlas. Welcome to Wikipedia. I was happy to help out with taxadiene and I can understand your frustration. Wikipedia's way of doing things and its rules can be quite hard to figure out for newcomers. The pages you created were problematic because they contained so little content. As an encyclopedia, all the articles in Wikipedia need to have a bare minimum of information. Several of the articles you created fell below that minimum because they contained no text at all - and without any content, a reader only sees a box with some numbers in it and it's not meaningful. That's why a couple of the articles were deleted (see WP:CSD#A3 for details about the deletion criteria). The other articles were moved to a different location - into your "user space" from "article space" as RHaworth noted above (see Wikipedia:User pages for details). You can work on the article where they are now, and then move them back to the regular titles when they are ready. Specifically, they should contain a minimum amount of information so that any reader could at least determine what the article is about. Articles, including those about chemical compounds, must also meet the general notability criteria to be included. So you should include some information that indicates why they are notable chemical compounds. Basing the information on cited references is helpful too. I'd be glad to help out in any way, including answering any other questions you have. You may also find others willing to help out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry and Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemicals where Wikipedia's chemists discuss issues related to chemistry articles. I hope this helps, -- Ed (Edgar181) 10:42, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Ok thanks for checking back with me guys. I figured all the "stubs" were going to expand eventually. For the majority of these compounds I can get their pubchem/spiderchem IDs and write a few sentences based on scientific papers. I figured notability wouldn't be a problem since the compounds are related by origin, and chemically related to docetaxel, 10-deacetylbaccatin, paclitaxel, baccatin III. Would a few sentences be enough to legitimize the pages? I also would like to generate images for the compounds but do not know how (although I was successful in creating one for baccatin III). ~ thanks again ~ Jatlas (talk) 14:17, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I think a few sentences would be enough provided the compounds are notable in some way (such as some scientific study beyond the mere isolation and identification). For images, there are instructions at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Chemistry/Structure drawing. But if you just leave the structure out of the chembox template, someone will almost certainly create an image and fill it in fairly quickly. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:08, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Who has requested deletion? What was the argument? Has it been discussed? --Avoided (talk) 13:51, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are asking. What is the exact title of the article you are referring to? -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:54, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

That article was started by User:Smtchahal in March and then he requested deletion by adding the {{db-g7}} template a few days ago. Since Smtchahal was the only significant contributor to the article, it met criteria for speedy deletion, and I deleted it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Housekeeping?

I'm not sure how this qualified as non-controversial cleanup, considering it hadjust been mentioned on ANI. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 20:54, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

As an image talk page containing only an off-topic comment with no content specifically related to the image, it was a typical G6 deletion. At the time I deleted it, the page hadn't yet been mentioned at ANI (timestamps show that the ANI comment and my deletion occurred within one minute). If anyone thinks there's value in undeleting the comment, I can do so. -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:03, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Lagon Bleu

Good Morning Edgar181, Please could you explain why the Lagon Bleu page that i submitted was deleted? I deleted Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Lagon Bleu because it was empty. It contained no content whatsoever and appeared to simply be a mistake. If you wish to write an article about Lagon Bleu for the Articles for Creation process, please feel free to do so. If you are having trouble with the process, please let me know and I'll try to help. Deletion of team season NBA template

What possible reason could you have for deleting this template? Do you not check for the damage you do to other pages before you do such a thing? What in the world could this template possibly hurt??? This deletion is going to cause a major revamping of the NBA Post season drought page. Please let me know why in the world you did such a deletion. If there is not a technical reason, it was not appreciated, and it is causing damage to pages. Spparky (talk) 01:45, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

It was a simple mistake. It was marked for speedy deletion by another user, and I don't recall what led me to think it was not in use. I've restored it now. Thanks for catching the error and letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 02:35, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Thank you very much - saved a lot of rework. Spparky (talk) 03:41, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Problem with blocked editor

As you were the blocking admin of the last editor that was vandalizing articles I created, I'm wondering of you would know how I should handle this. Mobility99 was indef blocked for vandalism and edit warring. Several account have popped up with identical edits, attacks on articles I created. I filed a sockpuppet report as it's obvious it's the same person. However, with the frequency of new accounts appearing, all doing the same thing, what can be done? I can't imagine the whole list of articles I created being protected. This is a nuisance (obviously this editor's plan). Where can I go from here? freshacconci talktalk 00:30, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Filing the SPI is the right place to start. I've blocked all the accounts listed there that are currently active. If others appear, report them there or let me know and I'll block. Some of the targeted articles have already been protected, and you can request protection of any others that get targeted. This kind of situation happens on occasion, but the good news is that most people like this realize the futility of what they are trying to do fairly quickly. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:16, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Atom AMPD

Hello Ed.

An article I submitted (Atom AMPD) has been deleted (May 8) due to copyright infringement. Assuming I can find the copyright infringement in the article I will delete and would like to resubmit the article. How should I proceed??

Thanks,

Tom — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tom Bergmann2 (talkcontribs) 17:31, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Some of the text is taken directly from atomampd.com. At second look, there isn't all that much, so it's probably in the gray area between what would generally be considered (by Wikipedia's standards, which may err on the side of caution) a copyright violation and what would not. So for now, I have restored Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Atom AMPD temporarily to give you a chance to work on it. However, I suspect that the article will be turned down for other reasons. As written, it does not appear to meet Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines for notability (see WP:CORP for details) and it is clearly promotional in tone. Also, as an executive in the company you're writing about, you should probably have a look at Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines as well. I hope this helps. I hate to say it, but that kind of childish vandalism is common around here and is tame compared to a lot of what I see every day. A 31 hour block is standard practice for a dynamic IP that has only a few edits and has never been blocked before. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:31, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
OK, but if they do it again in 31 hours it is not my fault. It was up there for more than 2 hours before I happened to see it. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 17:59, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for removing the vandalism from the article (I'm surprised the vandalism wasn't something that the bots would catch and automatically revert). And, yes, I agree that if they do it again it is certainly not your fault. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:06, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Invitation to take a short survey about communication and efficiency of WikiProjects for my research

Hi Ed, I'm working on a project to study the running of WikiProject and possible performance measures for it. I learn from WikiProject Chemicals talk page that you are an active member of the project. I would like to invite you to take a short survey for my study. If you are available to take our survey, could you please reply an email to me? I'm new to Wikipedia, I can't send too many emails to other editors due to anti-spam measure. You sure this is real? Not my field of expertise, but I can't find anything on it, even with the source. No patent found, no news, no web hits. Dennis Brown - - © - @ - Join WER 15:41, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

This is very typical of the many articles we have on designer drugs. It doesn't appear notable to me. Here's what I have found with a brief literature search. The chemical structure doesn't appear in any chemical database (Chemical Abstracts, Reaxys, PubChem, ChemSpider, etc.) and therefore is unlikely to have ever appeared in the scientific literature. The cited patent describes a genus of chemical compounds which encompasses the structure given in the article, but I haven't looked closely enough to say that 5-EAPB is specifically described - at best 5-EAPB is simply just one of many related chemicals described in the patent. I've tried to nominate such articles for deletion in the past on grounds of WP:GNG and WP:V without much success because there are too many editors here that are interested in cataloging all designer drugs no matter how unimportant they are. If you would like send this one to AFD, I would support deletion. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:14, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
I don't feel knowledgeable to defend it at AFD, although I would support a delete based on my findings. I ran across it quite accidentally while patrolling new articles and wasn't even able to verify it wasn't a hoax. I was tempted to tag it as such, but again, it is so far out of my expertise it is best left to someone like you that is familiar. Dennis Brown - - © - @ - Join WER 16:16, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Dear Ed, Who and where can I talk to someone about de/revulcanizing rubber, or at least being able to attach two vulcanized pieces together? This would be useful for example in recycling inner tubes into garden hoses. Perhaps it would be better to talk over email? I saw that you were a major contributor to the Vulcanization page, but perhaps another contributor would be better to contact? Clejan (talk) 01:32, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

If you would like to start an article about revulcanizing rubber, you are free to do so at any time. If you would like input from others first, I would suggest asking at Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry and anyone who is interested could give suggestions. I'm not sure I have contributed much to vulcanization, and I'm not terribly familiar with the topic, but I can probably help out. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:43, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Deleted page

Hi Ed. I added a new page to the sandbox (re: Cefn Blaenau) but for some reason the text vanished and it saved blank, so you deleted it. I would like to try again but I'm not sure where to do this (either in the sandbox or edit the stub directly). As this is my first attempt i thought it best to use the sandbox but any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

I'm not sure what might have happened to make the text vanish. Hopefully you have a copy of it and haven't lost your work. You can try the Wikipedia:Articles for creation process again, or you can simply create a page titled something like "user:EJTBK/articlename". You can then work on the article at that location and then when you think it is ready to be a Wikipedia article, you can move it to the appropriate title. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:15, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Alleged use of Agent Orange in the recent protests in Turkey

Hello;

I am the user who edited the forementioned title today. I am aware that the added section had nothing to do with the title substance but today in Turkey, Agent Orange is a household name. And still the public is not %100 sure that it isn't being used. I had to investigate online to find solid proof that the substance the Turkish police is using isn't agent orange. So in my opinion any moderate internet user will go on the Agent Orange page in wikipedia for information. This is why i think the page should have an "alleged use in 2013 Turkey protests" section to clarify that the substance that is being used is not Agent Orange ( it is actually this substance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CR_gas) . If Wikipedia is an environment that displays correct and helpful info, i can't think of a more appropriate case than this to help and illuminate people that are currently in distress. This state of disinformation and false assumption causes unrest in many Turkish internet users. Please take these into consideration. Please consider these to make Wikipedia a website that conveys more practical info. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.13.219.111 (talk) 14:48, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

I think it is still an issue of relevance. The problem you are describing is only temporary and local. If it is a problem, it is an issue primarily for our Turkish readers and the confusion will not last long. If the issue is to be discussed on Wikipedia, I think there are much better, more logical places for it, such as 2013 protests in Turkey, instead of at Agent Orange. -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:21, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

The problem here is about general website navigation in my opinion. In this case I really believe many of the internet users will initially look for the Agent Orange page for quick information and the edit i made would probably be beneficial in the short run. At least for the following week. But since I am not in any way a chemistry or Wikipedia regulation authority I leave this to you. Actually this was my first non-grammatical edit. Thanks for replying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Umit.Kybs (talkcontribs) 22:37, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log/delete&page=Henry_Hey I wonder why you deleted the Henry Hey page. I have no vested interest, while we are distantly related, I have never met Henry in person. - Jon Hey — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonhey (talkcontribs) 15:21, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

The entire content of the article at the time of deletion in 2008 was a single sentence fragment that was clearly insufficient to establish notability of the individual. The article consequently met criteria for speedy deletion (WP:CSD#A7). If you believe that Henry Hey meets Wikipedia guidelines for inclusion (see WP:BIO and WP:BAND for details) and you would like to write an article about him, the prior deletion does not preclude you from doing so. Faldaprevir

Hey Edgar181. You reverted my edit on Faldaprevir, which was to add a "more footnotes" tag. I was not disputing that the references were inline, I was disputing that there were enough inline citations - not in the sense of necessarily needing more sources, but in the sense of needing the sources there are to be cited more. That article contains five prose sentences and three of them, all at the end of paragraphs, completely lack inline citations. If you can suggest a better tag, feel free to WP:BOLDly overwrite mine, but in the future please reach out if you've got a problem with an edit I've made and talk to me about it. Updating Links to Citations

Hi Edgar,

Sorry for the username infraction. My name is Andrew and I'm the webmaster to MyjestikBlog.com. It has since changed to Myjestik.com and I was just updating the links to articles that people use from my site. I tried again, but I don't believe I was logged in. Some of the links were reverting back to the old site. Once I finish updating links on various sites, I'll get rid of MyjestikBlog.com. I just want to make sure all the links are accounted for. If I can't do it, maybe someone with more Wiki clout can.

Old link: http://www.myjestikblog.com/source-ranks-top-50-lyricists/ New link: http://www.myjestik.com/source-ranks-top-50-lyricists/

The link can be seen on this pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Daddy_Kane http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Pun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Busta_Rhymes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canibus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guru_(rapper) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gza http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Cube http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Method_Man http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mos_Def http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rakim http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarface_(rapper) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slick_Rick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Notorious_B.I.G.

If you, or someone can make sure the links stay current, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thank you, Andrew — Preceding unsigned comment added by BornDrew (talkcontribs) 01:14, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

It looks like someone else has already removed the links entirely. There are currently no links to either myjestikblog.com or myjestik.com anywhere on Wikipedia except on this page. -- Ed (Edgar181) 10:46, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Looks like they took the link out that I edited and replaced them with citation needed tags. I did the edits with my old Myjestik username. Could it be because of the username infraction that the links were deleted altogether? BornDrew (talk) 22:42, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

No, I don't think it was the username issue. The links were removed by User:Noq with edit summaries such as "remove blog link that does not back up claim ", so it looks like an issue of reliable sourcing (WP:RS) and verifiability (WP:V), but it would be best to ask Noq himself. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:03, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Why was the Pubmed external link for sunifiram removed without so much as a reason? --IO Device (talk) 00:38, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

According to the policy on external links (WP:EL), links to search result pages are to be avoided. If there are specific items in the search results that would be useful for the article to link to, it would be best to link them directly. -- Ed (Edgar181) 10:34, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)

Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization consisting of over 28,000 volunteers in more than 100 countries. The collaboration was formed to organize medical scholarship in a systematic way in the interests of evidence-based research: the group conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.

Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account. Thank you Cochrane!

If you are stil active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)

Emotional Jukebox

wondering why this was removed by you as Non-notable music by artist with no Wikipedia article see below

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Chorney

Linda Chorney was the fist Independent artist nominated for a Grammy where legends were the only ones recognized prior. Emotional Jukebox was the body of work recognized for Best Americana Album for the 54th Grammy Awards. The industry was not happy bout this due to the fact that she was virtually unknown in the circles of the Americana Music Association, a group of genre protectors.. so ask if you have an association with them, and why something historically factual might have been removed, and what was the motivation

I am not a contributor or a writer, but in the realm of fairness and information I would like this to be noted and linked to the article below

Grammy Award for Best Americana Album From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Grammy Award for Best Americana Album

Gilded gramophone trophy presented to Grammy Award winners Awarded for quality Americana albums Country United States Presented by National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences First awarded 2010 Last awarded 2013 Official website grammy.com The Grammy Award for Best Americana Album is an honor presented to recording artists for quality albums in the Americana music genre at the Grammy Awards, a ceremony that was established in 1958 and originally called the Gramophone Awards.[1] Honors in several categories are presented at the ceremony annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to "honor artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry, without regard to album sales or chart position".[2] In 2009, the Academy announced that the award for Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album would be split into two separate categories: Best Contemporary Folk Album and Best Americana Album.[3][4] The distinction between the two award categories is based on the use of acoustic versus electric instruments; acoustic instruments predominate in "contemporary folk" and electric instruments are characteristic of Americana.[4] Jed Hilly, executive director of the Americana Music Association, called the new category's inclusion "a huge acknowledgment" of the music genre.[5] Hilly admitted to working hard at convincing the Academy to include Americana as its own category.[6][7] The music industry had been using the term "Americana music" for about 15 years before the new award was created.[4] Following is the award's purpose, according to the category description guide from the 2011 Grammy Awards: Americana is contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. While acoustic instruments are often present and vital, Americana also often uses a full electric band.[8] The award was first presented in 2010 to Levon Helm at the 52nd Grammy Awards for the album Electric Dirt.[9] The second winner, in 2011, was Mavis Staples. Helm, Willie Nelson and Lucinda Williams are the only artists to be nominated more than once.[9] Contents [hide] 1 Recipients 2 See also 3 References 4 External links Recipients[edit]

One criteria for deletion is WP:CSD#A9: "An article about a musical recording that has no corresponding article about its recording artist". At the time that I deleted Emotional Jukebox several years ago, there was no article for Linda Chorney, so the article about the album was appropriately deleted. Since there is now an article for the artist, I have no objection if you want to write an article for the album. Since the album itself may not have much notability, there probably isn't a real need for standalone article for it and it might be better to just include whatever you would like to say about it on the artist's page instead. For now, I have simply redirected Emotional Jukebox to Linda Chorney. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:21, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Mass CSD nominations of news anchors

Hi Edgar. Looks as if we have been working simultaneously on the same issues. User talk:75.15.215.12 has tagged over 20 such articles for deletion in rapid succession today and I have also reverted one. I'm not sure about the others. There may be an agenda here. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:05, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

I reverted all the CSD nominations. Clearly they were not well considered nominations. Since the IP editor continued the rapid fire nominations after I asked him to stop, I also blocked for 24 hours. I'd be happy to unblock if the editor is willing to talk, but he has simply blanked the page. So there's probably nothing else to do for now. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:07, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Link to site www.aluminum-production.com on Wikipedia page about Aluminum

Hi Edgar. Some days ago I have added to the External Links section of the Wikipedia page the site www.aluminum-production.com. This link has been removed. Since this site is entirely devote to explain with a lot of details how the aluminum production process works, I thought it wouldn't be considered as link spamming. I would kindly ask you to go to that site and check if its content is appropriate for that Wikipedia voice and others too related to aluminum production processLonelyMountain (talk) 11:47, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

The link you added to multiple articles was removed by several different editors. I suspect that because you were adding the same link to so many articles, it appeared to those editors that you were simply trying to promote the website (spamming). Since your entire set of contributions to Wikipedia has been to add external links to various articles, I can understand that conclusion. There does seem to be some useful information on the website, but it might be better to link to specific, more relevant subpages instead of just the website's front page. I removed the link once with the comment "this has been repeatedly removed by different editors - please get consensus on the talk page first" and that advice stands. Please use the articles' talk pages to suggest adding the link to the articles and see what other editors think. If others agree with you that it is useful, then it can be added. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:40, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

I've recently done some digging into my own personal Wikipedia history, going back to my first account (Michael90), which I used in 2006 and 2007. As I was digging through my old edit history and tying together the loose ends by finally linking that account to my current one with an "abandoned" template, I realized that you were one of the very first administrators with whom I interacted on Wikipedia. You blocked an IP address, so none of my students from an entire class are able to edit in Wikipedia. Please unblock. I hope you only blocked the IP address temporarily. Your edit history does not indicate that you posted a warning or block notice, so I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what you blocked. I'll go look up that IP address now. Incidentally, you blocked an educational institution. Wikipedia has some strict rules about that. Doczilla @SUPERHEROLOGIST 19:40, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Here we go. User Rockbaum used our lab. Rockbaum appears to have been blocked appropriately. Blocking our university lab's IP address is not appropriate, not that you had reason to know that would happen necessarily. Odds are that you have no idea what I'm talking about because Rockbaum inserted childish sentences into articles back on June 11. The "Autoblock any IP addresses used" would have blocked our university lab IP address because of him today. I had to change that setting on the block and I hope students can use it. Doczilla @SUPERHEROLOGIST 20:12, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
I know full well when it's appropriate to block an IP address. I think it's a bit unfair for you to accuse me of not doing it appropriately before even knowing the situation. The block on Rockbaum is over five years old and consequently not related to the problem you are you are experiencing. Changing the block settings on a five year old block won't help. If you can tell me the IP address you are having problems with, I would be happy to help out. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:00, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

General Notability on Acetylacetonates

Hey Edgar181, I've noticed that you marked the three articles I created yesterday as potentially not meeting the general notability guidelines of wikipedia. What sort of information am I missing? I have seen articles about very similar compounds that warranted being on wikipedia with about the same amount of information. What is the difference between my articles and these ones? For example, Palladium(II) acetylacetonate is one of these compounds. I am not calling your judgement into question, I would just like some tips and/or suggestions on how to proceed. Thanks for your time, Calvinatlan (talk) 17:06, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

I added the template to those new articles because they don't contain any content that suggests they have any notability. For example, are they used for any specific purpose? I'm not sure that palladium(II) acetylacetonate would meet the notability guidelines either, but one difference is that at least it has a sentence describing a use. Articles about chemical compounds that don't assert notability occasionally get deleted, and the {{notability}} tag was intended more as a request for additional information in the article than anything else. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:16, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Won't bother you with this stuff anymore, but for future reference, is something like this enough to warrant notability? If so, can I remove the tag myself, or should I wait for an admin/moderator to do it? Thanks for helping me out Calvinatlan (talk) 20:01, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
It's not a bother at all. And yes, the additions to cerium acetylacetonate are the kind of thing I meant. You can remove the tag yourself. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:13, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Egg oil

Why has the entire section on Burns on the page Egg Oil been deleted? If animal studies are not adequate, they can be accordingly mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.97.100 (talk) 12:19, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

As I mentioned in my edit summary, the content that I removed was not supported by adequate sources. Information about medical uses needs to be based on references that are compliant with the guidelines at Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (medicine). Using references that describe studies performed on animals, for example, are not sufficient for a medical use claim. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:37, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

In this case, the claims can be suitably edited or qualified as based on animal studies instead of deleting the entire section completely. The readers have a right to be informed about potential uses even if they are based on initial animal studies. All drug discoveries start with animal studies or patent claims before the drug is taken to human trials. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.97.100 (talk) 08:46, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

It doesn't matter where drug discoveries start. The consensus at Wikipedia is that we don't report those discoveries until they are medical uses that are discussed in reliable secondary sources . If you disagree with this policy, you may work to change it, but you are not free to violate the policy just because you disagree with it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:43, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of Hitachi ID Systems, Inc.

Hello Edgar, our wikipedia page Hitachi ID Systems has been deleted. We are wondering how we can make the changes necessary to restore the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by OnlinepresenceHID (talkcontribs) 20:08, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Hitachi ID Systems was deleted about a year ago by the administator User:INeverCry. His reasoning was "Unambiguous advertising or promotion". Looking at the content of the deleted article, I would agree with that rationale. The promotional content of the article was added by you. If you want to recreate the article you should first make sure that it meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion (WP:CORP) and you would need to write a neutrally worded article about the company. However, it appears you have a clear conflict of interest and you should also have a look at Wikipedia's relevant policy in that regard: WP:COI. In general, I would advise you to simply wait until someone else writes the article. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:34, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Diketopiperazine vs 2,5-...

Alandb had actually done a cut'n'paste move of the former 2,5- specific isomer, to 2,5-Diketopiperazines, leaving Diketopiperazine as a newly written page about all the isomers. I left him a note about c&p being a problem. Now you have revived the 2,5- specific but also kept the general. Would be safer to do the actual pagemove and then revive the general from scratch? DMacks (talk) 18:32, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

I didn't notice that there was a separate article created. Thanks for letting me know. In my opinion, the content really isn't long enough or in depth enough to warrant splitting - the content of the two articles would be best handled in a single article. Currently, that could be achieved by simply redirecting 2,5-Diketopiperazines to Diketopiperazine. I'll leave a comment to that effect with Alandb. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:40, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion. This was a preliminary move with the aim to fully rewrite the 2,5-Diketopiperazines article, that I’m in the process of doing, by condensing a recent review I wrote on the subject covering the last 20 years (doi:10.1021/cr200398y.). So this article will be a lot longer and I would prefer to keep the two separate articles one being a subset of the other as in Oxadiazoles and 1,2,5-oxadiazole ManyThanks. Alanb (Alandb (talk) 09:33, 8 August 2013 (UTC))

In that case, I don't mind if you want to revert my edit to Diketopiperazine, and I'll wait until you're done expanding the articles. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 10:48, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

I think you missed a diff here on Sadomasochism when Revision Deleting edits made by 212.36.226.185 (talk). Michaelzeng7 (talk) 19:41, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

I see now, they were different people. Anyway, use your discretion. Cheers! Michaelzeng7 (talk) 19:43, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
I've deleted the edits from that IP now too. Thanks for catching that and letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:47, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
FYI There's also this previous, identical diff on the WikiLeaks page. --Rhododendrites (talk) 21:00, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
That IP only had one other edit here with the same idea. --Rhododendrites (talk) 21:03, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, I got those now. If there are still more out there, please let me know and I'll take care of them. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:21, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 23

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Passiflora, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Harman (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
