Zorro Productions Inc., incorporated in 1986,[1] controls over 1300 trademarks registered worldwide [2] and over 100 copyrights registered with the U.S. Library of Congress, in addition to thousands of common law copyrights on products and writings [3] in the name, visual likeness and the character of Zorro. The brand is represented worldwide by licensing agents, including Licensing Works,[4] DIC2,[5] Biplano,[6] Exim Licensing,[7] and Gorian,[8] for all ancillary products. John Gertz, CEO and President of Zorro Productions, has been guiding the brand for over thirty years through major films, television, stage productions, publishing projects and promotions in addition to hundreds of licensed products.[9] The corporate offices are located in Berkeley, California.
The company has litigated against others they believe have infringed on their trademarks and copyrights.
The original story The Curse of Capistrano and the first film The Mark of Zorro were published and shown before 1923 and are out of copyright. [10]
