I am a 57 year old married man, live in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, and have a life long interest and passion for popular music.

Over the past decade, I compiled my own 'Pop Star Birthday File' database. It currently has almost 3,900 entries, which has been researched through more media than I care to remember. Subterfuge over actual birth details is a popular occupation by show business managers, promoters, etc. Consequently I learned to check, double check, and triple check every piece of information that I uncovered regarding date of birth, place of birth, real full name and so on, of every artist. I have not kept a note of exactly where each minutiae was uncovered, but I have a copious library of reference work (see below), and at one time spent an inordinate amount of time trying to be as accurate as possible. To be frank, I do not know why. Rather like collecting stamps or noting railway engine numbers, you seemingly have got to do something.

For a considerable time, I was a hospital radio presenter in East Yorkshire, where part of my then weekly programme made use of the forthcoming week's entries in that 'Pop Star Birthday File'. I can not pretend I am always correct - indeed I welcome alternative evidence to confound my so-called 'facts'.

In recent years, my input to Wikipedia has concentrated on creating, enhancing, expanding and referencing many music related articles.

Reds or blues

This is a provisional, 'work in progress' list, relating primarily to 'obscure' blues musicians. However, several of those listed may well fall into the R&B, country and/or jazz genres. It is likely that some of those currently listed will fail the current Wikipedia notability criteria. If that is clearly the case, then I will remove those names. Otherwise, and allowing for the usual verifiable sources being available, then the quest is to change a fair number of the 'red links' into 'blues' (pun intended).

As this list is now public property, I have absolutely no objection to anyone with an interest seeking to assist. It would be helpful, to avoid potential duplication of effort, if anyone contributing makes their interest known. Thank you.
