this is a new page for Morris and/or Khalidi-material

Khalidi, 1992, errata

As any book plowing new fields, Khalidi, 1992, has its errata. I now see it is making its way into other books; therefore I start noting them here:

  • p. 45: under Al-Bira, Baysan ‎..the leStrange quote..There are 3(?) different Al-Birahs? BUT: "strong fortress and vast lands" is between Halab (Aleppo?) and "Greek Fortresses" .. & note: "On the north-east bank of Euphrates"(??)
  • p. 46: [Burckhardt 1822:842]...should be [Burckhardt 1822:342]...se under Danna ..(and Burckhardt, 1822, doesn´t have as much as 842 pages...)
  • p. 216: Robinson -ref should be p. 352-353, *not* p.252-253. See Talk:Deir al-Dubban
  • p. 521: ref to [Burckhardt 1822:250] should be [Robinson, 1856, p.396]???? See: Talk:Hittin NB: Petersen, 2002, p.150 also notes the Burckhardt-ref; probably he only took it from Khalidi.
  • p. 542: ...khan is *north* of the palace (not *south*), see Talk:Khirbat al-Minya, Tabgha,
  • p. 610: "Hütteroth, Wolf-Deiter".. should be "Hütteroth, Wolf-Dieter"

Bibliography

  • Khalidi, Walid (1992), All That Remains: The Palestinian Villages Occupied and Depopulated by Israel in 1948, Washington D.C.: Institute for Palestine Studies, ISBN 0887282245
  • Petersen, Andrew (2002): A Gazetteer of Buildings in Muslim Palestine: Volume I (British Academy Monographs in Archaeology)

Morris, 2004,

Ok, I´m trying to add the time, and cause of depopulation from the Morris, 2004-book. Village by village. Those which I am not sure about are mentioned here, also; those Khalidi-villages not mentioned in Morris are noted.

...............

About: El Mansurah (disambiguation).... we have:

  • Al-Mansura, Tiberias is marked on 1939 and 1944 maps as a little spec (not the usual mark used for a village) 1km east of Maghar, Israel. If it was a village then, it was tiny. As can be seen from Khalidi, it was statistically combined with Maghar. Not in Morris I think. Zerotalk 12:26, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
    • Ok, since Khalidi has 418 villages, while Morris only names 392, then there will be some missing. Huldra (talk) 12:33, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
  • Al-Mansura, Khirbat (Haifa) - similar story. Not in Morris. SWP map shows ruin. Zerotalk 12:46, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
    • 1931 census p94 shows a place "Arabs Mansura" with 192 Muslims. There is no map but I assume it is this one. Zerotalk 13:32, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Morris-list, as given in Morris, 2004

Galilee Panhandle (p. xvi):

Upper Galilee (p. xvi):

-------------------------p.xvii: ----------------------------------------------------

  • village #75: "Arab al Suyyad: -(?) M/E. 4 May 1948" ...is what??
It was a bedouin tribe. There is no specific village marked on any map I have though presumably they had an encampment. Zerotalk 11:33, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Western Galilee:

Lower Galilee, Jordan, Jezreel and Beit Shean valleys:

  • village #116: "Arab al Subeih - C, 19 April, 1948", ??? , according to map it is located west of #105 Ma'dhar and #106 Hadatha...and just north of #110Indur...Should be in District of Tiberias ..or Nazareth????
Nazareth subdistrict in the 1931 census (pop 716; quite big). Zerotalk 05:23, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Interesting; Khalidi only gives the four villages for District of Nazareth already in the 48-template, though. Huldra (talk)

*village #133 Arrab al Zarra'a -(?) C, 20 May, 1948... according to Morris-map it is located north of #130 Arab al-'Arida and #132 Arab al-Safa,...so: is it another name for Masil al-Jizl?????

No, Census 1931 has both "'Arab ez Zara" and "'Arab Masil el Jizl". I'll check maps later. Zerotalk 05:30, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
  • village #137 Al-Mujaydil, Nazareth
  • village #138 Ma'alul, Nazareth
  • village #139 Saffuriyya, Nazareth
  • village #140 Beit Lam, Nazareth -M 15, July 1948
  • village #141 Waldheim (Umm al 'Amad) -M April 1948 (this seems to be Alonei Abba...but a lot of information is missing, it seems)
  • village #142 Khirbet Ras Ali -Not known (is..??? On Morris-map: #142 is halfway between Haifa and Nazareth)
  • village #143 Yajur, Haifa
  • village #144 Balad ash-Sheikh
  • village #145 Arab Ghawarina -(?) W, M, mid-April 1948 ..(...On Morris-map: #145 is on the coast, between Acre and Haifa)
  • village #370 Nuqeib (Arab Argibat) - E, 14 May 1948
  • village #371 Khirbet Sarona (Arab al Masharqa]] Not known
  • village #372 Arab al Mawasi (Khirbet al wa are al Sawda) -E, 2 November 1948
