Miss Grand International 2022 will be the 10th anniversary of the Miss Grand International pageant[1][2] scheduled to be held on 25 October 2022 at Sentul International Convention Center in Bogor Regency of West Java province, Indonesia. Nguyễn Thúc Thùy Tiên of Vietnam will crown her successor at the end of the event.[3]

Background

Date and venue

Miss Grand Indonesia national director, Ivan Gunawan [id] (Right) and businesswoman from Bali, Maharani Kemala [id] (Left) made initial coordination with the Deputy Governor of Bali, Prof. Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati for the preparing of Miss Grand International 2022.

On the final coronation night of Miss Grand International 2021 in Thailand, the host of the event additionally announced that the 10th anniversary edition of the pageant will happen in Indonesia on 25 October,[4][5][6] with the pre-pageant activities in the tourist destination island Bali,[1][7][8][9] and the final coronation night in the capital city Jakarta.[10] The event was supported by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia.[11][10][9] and the implementation of the contest is expected to encourage the recovery of the Indonesian economy after being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic through increased employment in the community.[9][12][13]

After a venue selection survey with the Dunia Mega Bintang Foundation [id], the licensee of Miss Grand Indonesia, in mid-May, the organization had later informed that the grand final of the Miss Grand International 2022 pageant is opted to be arranged at Sentul International Convention Center (SICC) in Bogor Regency of West Java Province.[14] Furthermore, the SICC also served as the location for the other two main sub-contests including the national costume parade and the preliminary competition.[14]

Selection of participants

As of 11 July 2024, 18 contestants officially confirmed to participate, 7 of which were appointed to the position without competing in the respective national pageant such as the representative of Dominican Republic,[15] Guatemala,[16] Indonesia,[17] Mauritius, Mexico, and Peru,[18] while other 4 candidates obtained the national position after receiving the supplementary title at other national pageants, namely the candidates from Canada,[19] Czech Republic, Kyrgyzstan,[20] and Panama.[21] The remainders were selected through the national pageants which was separately held to determine their representatives for Miss Grand International 2022.[22][23][24]

Of the appointed candidates, the representative of Myanmar, Kansuda Chanakeeree [th], was elected by the national director Htoo Ant Lwin after participating in Miss Grand Thailand 2022 where she was placed among the top 20 finalists.[25] Kansuda is half Thai-Myanmar with Karen descent.[26] Previously, she had participated in the Miss Universe Thailand 2019 and 2021 pageants, in which she qualified for the finals of 20 and 15, respectively.[27]

The 2022 edition will see the debut of Kyrgyzstan[20][28] and the return of Jamaica, Ghana, and Singapore; Singapore last competed in 2016; making it the first time the country has competed after 5 years of absence. Ghana last competed in 2018, meanwhile Jamaica last competed in 2020.
