Elvaston is located in west-central Hancock County at 40°23′49″N 91°15′1″W / 40.39694°N 91.25028°W / 40.39694; -91.25028 (40.396983, -91.250296).[4] U.S. Route 136 passes through the center of the village, leading east 6 miles (10 km) to Carthage, the county seat, and west 5 miles (8 km) to Hamilton on the Mississippi River.[citation needed]

According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, Elvaston has a total area of 0.80 square miles (2.07 km2), all land.[5]
