Hey.
I'm new and looking to be adopted. :)
Help?

Revision as of 18:15, 17 November 2008

I will be going to Los Angeles to attend the annual Screenwriting Expo from Friday, November 14 to Sunday, November 16. I will be seeing

I will be taking pictures and may get to ask a question in the panel discussions so if you have anything that you would like to be asked of these writers, then please leave me a note on my talk page. I will try to film it and we may be able to cite that as a primary source or maybe the press will be there anyway and hear the question.

SarekOfVulcan RFA

Thank you for !voting on my RfA. If you supported, I'll make sure your confidence is not misplaced; if you opposed, I'll take your criticism into account and try to adjust my behavior accordingly.

See you around the wiki!--SarekOfVulcan (talk) 00:50, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main page requests moving along ...

We have a compromise I'm satisfied with. We've developed a more precise organization for the current five-nomination system that could provide the infrastructure for more nominations in the future, if we're confident we can maintain it after trying it for awhile. You can see the discussion on the requests talk page, of course, but a sample of what we have in mind is here. Wrad (talk) 01:43, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AIV revert

Hello. I noticed you recently reverted your report of 190.51.136.69. I am watching WP:AIV and I was wondering why you reverted it since the IP did vandalize after her/his last warning. After I saw that, I added the report back my own. I don't know why you reverted it, but I was thinking you looked at the above report I did and they had almost the exact IP address number and they were vandalizing the same pages. I was thinking you reverted your report because you thought the above report was the same IP you were reporting. The above IP report was 190.51.178.67; you can see how they are a like. Well, anyway, they were both blocked by User:Xenocidic. I would still like to know why you reverted your report if you don't mind. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 19:34, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that it was possible that he (or she, let's just say he) had not vandalized after his final warning, as his last vandalism and warning both occured at 19:07 (UTC). Soon after, I saw that the article he was vandalizing was being protected and his various IP accounts were being dealt with. –thedemonhog talkedits 20:14, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, just making sure. They were blocked anyway so no problems. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 20:15, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFA

Heh, thanks. I've hated that question for long before your RFA (because my 3rd RFA got opposed because I felt that blocks to cool down the general climate of Wikipedia discussion areas were appropriate, and WP:CDB is horribly defined). I don't know what I can do to thank you... although I am in an editing mood, so I might get back to finishing of the Lost episodes. Sceptre (talk) 21:20, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations!

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your successful RFA! :) (Though I do apologize for a lack of a congratulatory pic.) :P -WarthogDemon 00:06, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats on the successful RFA! I had to indent one of the last votes because it was a duplicate, but you still hit WP:100 :p Gary King (talk) 00:06, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are now an administrator

Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful and made you an administrator. Take a look at the administrators' how-to guide and the administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Also, the practice exercises at the new admin school may be useful. It looks like Lost (season 4) has been on your to-do list for some time now. I just put it on mine today (after reviewing a few The Office GANs and deciding I should do some episodes myself). Sorry if I'm intruding on your territory as I see you are an experienced Lost content contributor :) Gary King (talk) 01:28, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, how's the FT coming along? I know that Cabin Fever passed GA (weirdly, I never nominated it), and I know Something Nice Back Home and Shape of Things to Come passed too. Sceptre (talk) 22:22, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Gary King formatted the references in "Cabin Fever" and "There's No Place Like Home", nominated them both for good article status and added them to his "contibutions" list on his user page, with ThinkBlue quickly passing both of them as good articles. I am now trying to speedily clean-up Lost (season 4) so that it can get to featured list candidates and the topic can get to featured topic candidates by the time that I leave for a one-month vacation starting on the 18. Also, your comments are welcome at Talk:Lost (season 4)#Changes. –thedemonhog talkedits 23:39, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible) system - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:42, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA Thanks

Thank you for your support at my RFA, which closed as a success. I would also like to congratulate you on surviving my 160K coaching page. Thanks for the barnstar; it means a lot. I was meaning to give you one too, but I didn't know what to give you one for. Re: Lost FAC

I'd be very happy to do a copyedit (sorry I hadn't got around to commenting on the FAC); I'll probably take a stab at it later today. —97198 talk 04:14, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, this is really the best I could do. Feel free to write and rewrite as I doubt you'll agree with absolutely everything I changed. ;) I might leave a few comments on the FAC page in a sec. —97198 talk 11:04, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to break your record :)

Did you know that Through the Looking Glass (Lost) is the longest episode FA, at 49.1KB? Well, I'm trying to break your record with The Stolen Earth (not yet an FA). It's currently at 44.5KB, but given that three production accounts (uno, dos, tres) are coming out soon, I think I might get to 60KB. My ultimate goal is to get it on the main page for 23 November 2008 (Doctor Who's 45th anniversary). Reckon I'll suceed? Sceptre (talk) 04:28, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Other Woman

Hi Thedemonhog; I removed the new FAC as I archived it only a few hours ago. The FAC should be able to sail through successfully if you bring it back when everything is cleared up. I see another editor started a thread at the Reliable Sources noticeboard, and there's the pending image issue. If you can nail down those two issues, the chances of the article passing next time will be much greater, and you'll likely get more attention from reviewers. It's understandable, with the high traffic at FAC, that reviewers may be reluctant to engage until other issues are sorted. Please take a few days to sort out those two kinks, and then bring it back when it's ready. Good luck next time; that was a great episode, and I'll be pulling for it. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:39, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning demonhog. I was going to say that I won't have time to copyedit it during its FAC, but I see it got archived anyway. Since we have a bit more time, can you give me about a week? I'm coming off a very busy period at work but I will have more time coming up this week. --Laser brain (talk) 17:08, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it. Since you are busy, I will just find someone else.  ;) –thedemonhog talkedits 22:26, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt I'll have time anytime soon to do a copyedit of this article. If you still need my help on October 20, let me know. Good luck! Scartol • Tok 18:18, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lost

Um, I just looked over those episode pages. If I were you, I would nominate them for FA status. As far individual episode articles goes, they are pretty comprehensive. Not all episode articles have scholarly analysis on them. Though, given the depth of those reception sections, I would remove those horrid (horrid meaning the actual site, not the Wikipedia writing) TVSquad sources. Those people are some of the most unprofessional reviewers out there, and when you have stuff like Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly, you don't need to fluff up the section with stuff from TVSquad.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:06, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just look at The Shape of Things to Come (Lost), it's the same structure as Eggtown and the other you listed. There might be a bit more information, but "comprehensive" means that you've covered all major points the best of their ability. It doesn't mean that every episode article must contain X, Y, Z topics. Not all episodes win awards. Not all episodes have "themes" that are analyzed by critics. If there isn't anything else to say about those particular episodes, the rather large production info and reception section is a pretty comprehensive look at those episodes. Unfortunately, Smallville episodes don't get that type of coverage, and that's why they don't have articles.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:11, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, you might be right. Thanks for the posts! –thedemonhog talkedits 23:14, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Quick point, the Leads of both articles do need some work, but that's not a reflection of comprehensiveness.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 23:17, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a big deal, but I didn't understand

I didn't understand on the TFAR page your summary "September 30: Not supporting per removal of another article" I guess not supporting is better than opposing, but the "per removal" suggests to me that you think I did something wrong. Any help straightening me out would be appreciated.

BTW, as a kid I got to hang out in Vancouver while visiting my Grandmother. Are Stanley Park, English Bay and Jericho Beach still as nice? Well they have articles, so I'll check those out.

Smallbones (talk) 04:21, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, for some reason, I did not want to just add a "formatted TFA blurb box" edit summary, so I added one on why I was not supporting when I normally support just about everything that goes through TFAR (not including the last few months when I have been too busy/away to support anything on that page!) What I meant was that I will not be adding a support—or an oppose—vote to requests that replaced another. I liked it better when we had to voraciously watchlist the page to see when a slot opened up to add a request instead of the slight hard feelings/betrayal that one might feel nowadays if he or she gets all the way to TFAR only to have his or her request removed for reasons that are out of the editor's control (a somewhat similar article by someone else appearing on the main page recently, the subject matter being under ten years old or not relevant to a seventh-grade school project, etc.) And Stanley Park, English Bay and Jericho Beach are still nice, although the Park was closed for part of last year after a vicious windstorm. Anyway, good luck with your nomination! –thedemonhog talkedits 04:36, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. I always found the old system horribly unfair. I'm on Wikipedia rarely for more than an hour here or there, and what little time I have I devote mostly to articles. Under the old system I never once spotted an opening on the page. I'd written 6 Featured Articles over the course of a year before I had one featured. I just gave up as the old system didn't really favor quality, or diversity, or anything but who had the most time to hit the Watchlist. Talk about feeling slighted by something beyond my control! Quit my job to watchlist TFAR? The new system is much improved in my opinion (though I could think of several tweaks, as the current system seems to punish articles without clear anniversaries). I guess it goes to show that you can't possibly make everyone happy :) --JayHenry (talk) 05:29, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Although, if I was writing about more important topics and/or was not a demon watchlister, I would probably prefer the new system. –thedemonhog talkedits 05:50, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response. This is my first experience with TFAR, so it's hard for me to compare. The competitive aspect of the page is a bit unusual (in some ways) for wikipedia, but the point system does seem designed to encourage diversity, which I think is very good. A new FL contest

Wikipedia's epic FL directors Matthewedwards and Scorpion0422 have decided to try another FL contest as a follow up to the one held last June. As you entered the first contest, you may be interested in taking a look at the new one, which will have different rules. Although they are still being fiddled with, three FLs in different topics will be required this time around. For more information, see here. A start date has not yet been determined, but it will likely begin some time within the next week or so. Thanks for the time, Scorpion0422 15:52, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TFAR

Thanks for the heads up — but it seems that some of the regulars at TFAR don't like it when an article is nominated way in advance, even if it's within the 30-day timeframe. I had thought it might be more politic for me to wait a bit longer, perhaps until Oct. 23 or so.
