Requests for Feedback
  • This page provides comments and constructive criticism about articles that you have drafted, created, or substantially changed.
  • This is not a general help page. To seek assistance or ask a question, see Wikipedia:Questions.
  • If you are seeking an outside opinion about a dispute, please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.
  • Please note that this page is patrolled by volunteer editors just like you and it may take several days to review your request.
Before you request feedback

There are certain things which come up again and again so it may help if you deal with them before requesting feedback:

If you would like a beginner's guide to these sorts of issues, take a look at the article wizard.

If you are unsure about how to edit Wikipedia articles, take a look at this tutorial.

For a more general discussion of writing your first article, see "Your first article".

How to post a request
  1. Place a Wikilink, with the title of the page inside and - for example, User:Example/Lipsum or Cats - in the box below.
  2. Click Click To Add Request
  3. In the new article, Write a brief summary of your work or what in particular you need help with, but do not post the whole article here.
  4. If you have rewritten an existing article, you may wish to provide a diff link from that article's history that shows your changes.
  5. Check regularly for responses to your request; they will most often be made here.

Post your request using the box below. Replace "Untitled" with a wikilink to your article - e.g. User:Example/Lipsum or Cats
After Receiving Feedback
  1. Check back here often, as you will receive a response here.
  2. Respond to the feedback, either with a simple thank you, to ask for help with anything mentioned, or, after you've made some of the improvements, what they think of them.
  3. Consider helping out here in the future - anyone can read up on what articles should be like and provide constructive criticism.
Are you providing feedback?
  • Please consider notifying the user whose article you are providing feedback for by placing a message on their talk page, so they will be able to read it in a timely manner and reply if necessary. You can use..
    • Feedbackreply-sm A template asking the user to check back here and consider responding
    • Feedbackreply-alt A more personal version of the first offering your help with developing, moving to mainspace, etc.

Chandra Om

Hello,

This is the first page i have created, subject is Chandra Om User:Premandom/Chandra_om, a well-known teacher in Yoga circles. i am intersted if you think it needs any work, and what type before i try to post it for everyone to see. Thanks very much.

Premandom (talk) 23:30, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good job on the article not being promotional, but aren't you in violation of the conflict of interests rules? Xcviii (talk) 01:16, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Premandom - thank you for your time and the feedback Xcviii. i am not sure what you mean about the conflict of interest. Is it because my username has a 'om' in it? 'Prem and Om' is how i sign some of my emails. It means Love and God and i thought it was a nice username. Sorry for the confusion. Should i try to post it under a less confusing looking username? Or do you have any other suggestions? Premandom (talk) 13:48, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your user name is fine. However I disagree with Xcviii about the draft article. It does read as promotional to me, more like a press release than an encyclopedic article. Phrases such as "dedicated her life to selfless service", "initiated by Sri Dharma Mittra into his spiritual lineage", "dedicating her life to the service of others" are not encyclopedic. – ukexpat (talk) 16:40, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Premandom - thank you for the feedback. I am not sure how to edit it to make it more understandable. In the Yogic tradition, spiritual initiation and selfless service (Karma Yoga) are commonly understood phrases and ideas, though in western culture they are not. I looked at wiki pages on other Yogis, ie, Swami Sivananda, Dharma Mittra and Swami Sivanda Radha to see what language had previously been acceptable and this language is common to them as well. Do you have any specific suggestions on how it can be more encyclopedic? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Premandom (talkcontribs) 16:59, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just remove it (it should come out of the other articles too). The articles on Yogic tradition and related concepts already explain the service and lineage stuff, among many, many other things, so those two things do no need to be re-emphasized in an article on a Yogic individual. Articles on Christian abbots do not include wording like "devoted his life to selfless service to others and the church" or "initiated by Father Jorge Paulus into his spiritual lineage". It's too "personal" in a sense, like it was written for a company board member bio or a résumé, with "power words" like "initiated". Something more like "is a ... in the Yogic lineage of Sri Dharma Mittra". Just the facts. And "spiritual" is redundant here, unless "Yogic" things are spiritual by definition. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 21:19, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

3CX Phone System

I have updated this page based on the feedback received User:Voipguy/3CX_Phone_System and would welcome further feedback Voipguy (talk) 13:52, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have evidently put quite a bit of work into improving this article. I managed to find some earlier feedback on this here: I guess this is the "feedback received" you refer to.
In my opinion the article is generally good: far better than is usual from a relatively inexperienced editor, and you are to be congratulated on your work. However, there are a few bits and pieces which could be cleaned up a little.
You have certainly responded to the earlier feedback by providing a lot of sources. The quality of the sources is, however, a different matter. I do not have time right now to do a thorough check on all of your sources, but I have had a quick look at a few of them, and they seem to be quite variable. http://www.voip-info.org/ is, unfortunately, no use at all in establishing notability, as it has an open wiki which anyone can edit, which means it is not a reliable source. (For the same reason Wikipedia articles are not reliable sources.) Many of your other sources, however, avoid this problem, and are perfectly reliable sources. Some of your sources call themselves blogs, but exactly what this means is highly variable. A blog set up by just anyone on a general purpose blogging site is a totally unreliable source, while a column by an established journalist published by a reputable newspaper in a blog format is just as reliable a source as a column by the same journalist in a printed newspaper. I have not examined the credentials of the writers of every source you have given. Reliability is not the only criterion: there is also the question of how much coverage they give. My own opinion is that overall you indicate plenty of coverage, so that assuming enough of your sources are reliable enough there should be no problem with notability.
As for the content of the article, most of it is fine. However, the fact that particular magazines have reviewed the product is too tangential to be mentioned. There is an important distinction to draw here. The fact that a number of reviews exists, and that you can cite them as sources is important, helping both to establish notability of the product and also to confirm some of the statements you make in the article. However, that is not at all the same as saying that the existence of those reviews is notable enough to be mentioned in the article. Likewise the fact that someone said something about the product in a blog post may or may not be notable; if the person making the blog post is unheard of then it certainly isn't.
As I have said, generally the article is good. A few bits of touching up will help. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:09, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Frank B. Wynn

I have just started a new article User:Davidclydewalters/Frank B. Wynn I have much more information on Dr. Wynn and his considerable contribution to medical history and the conservation movement in the United States. I have just completed a Doctoral dissertation on leadership and the biography of Dr. Wynn at the University of Montana. The article is not complete. I have only started it to learn how to contribute. I am requesting feedback only so that the article is properly constructed and will not be deleted. I will continue to work on it. Thank you for creating and maintaining this valuable information resource. I have already made a donation and expect to do so again in the future. --Davidclydewalters (talk) 05:39, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked only briefly at your draft article, so what I am about to say is only a first impression.
The article generally looks very good to me, and there are only two points I think are worth bringing up. It would be helpful if you could give inline citations: that means put in the text, at points where the references are relevant, rather than at the end. The <references/> tag which is in the "References" section will then cause the details to be shown in a list at the end, without you having to list them there. Unfortunately the "Lincoln Boyhood National Park" link is not working at the moment. It may be repaired by the time you read this, but even if it is I am not sure it should stay. The guideline on external links to be avoided discourages, among other things, "sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject". If the page linked is about the Lincoln Boyhood National Park, not about Frank B. Wynn, then, although there is clearly a connection, it is an indirect connection. However, as I have said, the draft looks generally good, and I look forward to seeing it launched as an article soon. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:22, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have no reliable sources demonstrating Notability. --SPhilbrickT 17:58, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an article I have written regarding a notable figure in the world of social media in healthcare, Lee Aase. I have compiled an extensive list of references, external links, and other supplementary information. With able guidance from PhantomSteve (a Wiki contributor and advisor), I have fortified each of the sections I created and am now seeking broader review to ensure that this page will be ready for formal submission to the active site. I welcome your constructive criticism. As a first-time article writer for Wikipedia, I have been warmed by the good counsel I have obtained so far and look forward to your input. Thanks. Carmen Gonzalez, also known as Carmen2u (talk) 04:26, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Despite the list of potential sources, external links, and interviews, I'm not sure if you have established notability. One to two lines in reputable sources (ie Forbes and Good Morning America) are not enough to create an article. Articles cannot rely predominately on primary (the subject's) sources or blogs. You might want to consider creating an article on social networking in medicine since it appears to be the subject receiving the significant coverage in the reliable sources. That being said, you have made some steps towards this biography. If you choose to continue with it:
  • Remove the interviews and reduce the external links sections. It appears that you were attempting to assert notability but it does not improve the encyclopedic value of the article. WP:ELNO for the external links.
  • A good PR run (which appears to be what some of the coverage is based off of) will make a PR article. Limit and watch the wording of coverage solicited by the subject.
  • Remove all blogs. These are not references. A mention of the subjects blogs can get some room but I would recommend making sure sources discuss it or other editors will assume it is promotional (just the way it works on Wikipeida). Blogs should not be used as sources. None of them appear to be by reputable sources joining in new media but utilyzing full editorial control so they do not meet the requirements in the guidelines. See Wikipedia:Reliable sources#Self-published and questionable sources
  • Reformat all of the references. I recommend cutting out all of the inappropriate ones before taking this step
  • The lead does not need a section header . WP:LAYOUT
  • "evangelist" seems a little fluffy. "Proponent" or something similar would be less pretty but more encyclopedic.
  • The Speaking engagements subsection needs sources independent of the subject that are not blogs for lines such as "Aase is a highly regarded figure in the social media arena..."
  • Your "sources" have verified that the subject spoke at conferences (such as the one in Vegas) but without appropriate sources throughout the article already truly verifying notability, it reads like a resume.

Ayodele Awojobi

I have recently written the article, Ayodele Awojobi, and would need valuable feed-back.

The article, I believe, speaks about the life and achievements of what I believe to be a remarkable Nigerian academic; a pioneer in Mechanical Engineering research, out of Africa.

Feed-back would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have reviewed about half the article and cleaned it up quite a bit -- the language is way too "flowery", repetitious, and full of hyperbole, and has to be toned down to make it more encyclopedic. Please take a look at WP:MOSBIO for guidance. I will continue to review and tone down. – ukexpat (talk) 17:19, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Legion Airs is a published collection of music that may be of interest to WWI and WWII historians, Choral groups, or others looking for public domain materials.

I am giving the publisher's address (directly from the published work) as the reference. Is this acceptable?

The key problem here is notability - please read WP:MUSIC, and I guess WP:NB, for appropriate guidelines. – ukexpat (talk) 19:00, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The album does not appear to meet the notability guidelines set out at WP:NALBUMS and the tone is not encyclopedic - "One of the nice things about this disc..."; "Excellent career retrospective of one of heavy metal's most respected underground bands" etc. – ukexpat (talk) 16:40, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This is the first article--Gene expression profiling in cancer--I have written and any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks! Ahwang1 (talk) 23:54, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great first article, well done. A few remarks: On the first hand, the article is repeating a lot of information that can be found already in other articles. In this respect, I was wondering whether this profiling could not just be a section in the main article Gene expression profiling with a few references on clinical applications, which is the major important point of the new article. However, the topic cancer is very important. Therefore, it could really be worthwhile to have a specific article on this sub-topic. Still, the text should be shortened to prevent too much of redundancy with other articles. A shorter text will also help the reader to really find the specific information and not loose him/herself in the long text. In respect of shortening: Currently, I get the impression that single references are cited with many additional information like author name, university and journals inside of the text instead of just using the reference. This could be deleted not only to shorten the text but also to increase the focus to the facts themselves and not distract the reader by less important information.
The article is well referenced. Currently, there are just a few examples of certain cancers, which is a good starting point. However, such a selection has always the risk to give a biased overview, in particular if there are some primary sources. I think that the article could be improved for an encyclopedia by moving the focus to more general insights that can be drawn on various cancers with this method. If a reader really needs very detailed information on a particular cancer, she/he has to read current scientific articles.
And as a last point, I would like to recommend to also introduce some critical discussion on the value of this technique. This would help to get a neutral point of information. Such points could be: What is really the clinical relevance of these markers at the moment despite of scientific interest? Although many markers have been shown retrospectively or prospectively to be associated with better or worse prognosis (i.e. to be a prognostic factor), it is not so sure for many of them whether they can also be used as a trigger for therapeutic decisions.
In general, I think your article is on a very good road. Best wishes, --Firefly's luciferase (talk) 01:24, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Personal interview by phone, interviewer unknown" and "Unknown Erie newspaper source" do not constitute reliable sources of the sort we require. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:03, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed the citation for this phone interview, still trying to find the name of the interviewer. I understand this reference is fairly well useless without that name, but the transcript of this interview is available in a museum archive where I am currently interning if that helps. I've also found a concrete date and name for the newspaper source. Does this make them reasonably reliable? Myivories88 (talk) 16:48, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is a common misconception that sources have to be online - they don't - as long as the source can be verified by someone minded to do so (in a public library for example) then it is perfectly OK. In fact we have a citation template for that - cite news. However unless that coverage is significant, I don't think it's going to help. Compeng001 (talk) 18:00, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but at the moment the major problem is that it reads like an advertisement - expressions such as "innovative application", "a solution that offers superior strength and durability but with the benefit of reduced weight", "pleasing livability and aesthetics", etc are promotional, not encyclopedic and the use of TM is inappropriate. So the draft needs toning down considerably to a neutral point of view. – ukexpat (talk) 18:08, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see two major problems: first, the article doesn't address how or why the event is notable per Wikipedia's inclusion criteria - you will need to cite significant coverage in reliable sources to show notability; second, the tone is not encyclopedic - it reads more like a promotional piece for the event (prices, no-strollers, photo policy etc), so it will need some significant rewriting from a neutral point of view. – ukexpat (talk) 21:21, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hello, I just recreated the page for Spill.com, a page that has a contentious history and has been deleted many times in the past. I put a lot of time into it and I believe it to be notable and reliable with over 10 reliable sources so I think it should be fine. I'm just requesting here for someone to give it a quick look to see if there are any other things wrong with it so that new unreviewed article template can be removed. You can read my answer on the article talk page and your talk page Orangemike, but I thought I might post my reply to your suggestion for deletion here as well. I would have to completely disagree with the suggestion from Orangemike that Spill.com isn't notable. Under the specific criteria for notability for web content located atWikipedia:Notability_(web), it mentions that only one of the listed criteria must be met for the page to be considered notable. The second listed Criteria for web content goes as follows,"2. The website or content has won a well-known and independent award from either a publication or organization." Obviously Orangmike must have not read the entire article because there is an entire section dedicated to awards in which it is mentioned that they won the 2009 best podcast for the movies/film section from The People's Choice Podcast Awards, better known as the Podcast Awards. Clicking on the wikilink or going to their website at www.podcastawards.com and scrolling down the page, on the right hand column, will find that Spill.com has won the award. The podcast awards are the preeminent awards for podcasts in the world and are most definitely an organization. Other winners include This American Life and ESPN so it is very feel known, I really don't think there are any disputes of that. Also, user Gogo Dodo has backed this article up in saying that it is notable. On my talk page he has said, " The awarding of a 2009 Podcast Award would qualify Spill.com per the notability guidelines." I have no objections to recreating the article because now the site meets the notability guidelines" and you can visit the top of my talk page to confirm that. You need to establish Notability with references to reliable sources. Please check out Referencing for beginners. I prefer LDR style, but go with the suggestion in the beginners page if you choose.
You've included a number of external links. They do not "count" as references, unless the text in the article is specifically cited to the link. The format of the links can be improved—I've fixed the first one to show you how—it is very easy, just add a space and text.--SPhilbrickT 14:59, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I would love some feedback on this article/stub I have written. I feel that this is an area that is becoming commonly refered to in mainstream culture and for this reason it shoukld have a wikipedia entry to explain it in more detail. I also feel that given the subjetc matter and contributary nature of this space, wikipedia is the ideal platform to begin defining this movement/topic.

Your footnotes don't contain page numbers. Is this term actually used in either book? If so, on what page(s)? This looks like a neologism for which you are seeking publicity. (And as a person of partially Native American ancestry, I will admit that I also resent the usurpation of the word "tribe" to describe this kind of phenomenon.) --Orange Mike | Talk 15:34, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article on author Connie Ann Kirk

I wrote an article for biographer and independent scholar Connie Ann Kirk: User:BKred/Connie Ann Kirk I believe it satisfies the guidelines for WP:Notability given that she has been reviewed by multiple periodicals (Booklist, School Library Review, Writers' Journal, etc.) Should I mention these reviews in the article? How does it look otherwise? Any input I can get is much appreciated, thanks! BKred (talk) 16:11, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The references that you have at the moment do not qualify as reliable sources as defined on Wikipedia - the first is the author's own site and answers.com is not, as far as I know, regarded as reliable. Please take a look at WP:AUTHOR for relevant notability guidelines. So yes, you will need to cite some of those "multiple periodicals" to support notability. – ukexpat (talk) 16:21, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll work on finding better primary sources. I will also include references to the reviews I mentioned. I didn't want to include them before in case they made it look to much of a promotional page. Thank you! BKred (talk) 18:37, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Remember, also, that there's a big difference between mentioning a review (OK) and using selected pull quotes from a review, like you were compiling cover copy for a paperback release (not OK). --Orange Mike | Talk 19:42, 23 December 2009 (UTC) (writes occasional book reviews professionally)[reply]
So should I include the actual review, or just include the fact that they were reviewed?BKred (talk) 19:53, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly not the actual review (though a link to it would be OK); that would be a copyright violation, and also would constitute undue emphasis on the reviews. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:07, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well I'm a little perplexed now. The majority of her reviews are in registered-user-access-only archives. I can try to cobble together the reviews that aren't, but would it be terribly inappropriate for me to link to the relevant amazon pages, where the reviews are given in total? The references with their tags are meant to be placed within the main article text, usually at the end of the sentence they support. I've moved the two at User:SheilaGalvin1962/Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama to the end of the first and second paragraphs as a demonstration. If you continue with the article, please find some sources that come from places independent of the Academy, and that have a reputation for factual accuracy. Is the Academy mentioned anywhere by the BBC or in a national newspaper, for example. The Academy's own website is acceptable for information such as location, staff, etc. but you'll need reliable, third-party (i.e. independent) sources to back up claims such as "many students discover careers in commercial dance, dance companies, television, music and film". Please read the wikipedia pages on notability and reliable sources to get an idea of what is required for an encyclopedia article. --RexxS (talk) 03:59, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have posted my invitation at the MM site. It has been there for weeks - with opportunity to comment; and reference to the new language. I keep looking for response. But nothing so far. In addition, I posted the changes to a major "Montessori" discussion list for comment as well. So far, just one favorable reply. I suppose people wait until a definite "action" is taken that gets people's attention that people reply. But I will allow another week before I act "bold" like suggested by the wiki-folk suggest.Havis1 (talk) 15:11, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
First: the MM site (if you mean an external site) and a "Montessori discussion list" do not count, enwiki announcements only count. Second: in the talk page [4] you said "when I have a revised version ready for inspection, I will offer it here for comment", and only 2 days ago announced that you've completed your revamp, so how do you expect anybody to comment before that? Third: nobody is required to go to your user page to build the consensus there.
You can go and be bold if you are sure that nobody will object, but if someone reverted your changes you have to discuss it with them because even merging (which is less controversial than replacing) has to be discussed if someone objected. Sole Soul (talk) 23:51, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for being honest about your connection. You acted in good faith but still, writing an article about subject that you have a close connection to is strongly discouraged, see WP:COI. People with conflict of interest may avoid the marketing language when they write about their companies, but suppose that there is a negative, credible information about their companies, most likely they will skip that information. Looks like a pretty good start to me, nice to see some reliable inline refs in a new article for a change. There are a few formatting issues with this article though. Firstly, overlinking - well known, major geographic locations like America and Miami don't need to be wikilinks, as per WP:OVERLINKING. Also, I personally don't like to see abbreviations like FL in the main body of the text, not everyone who reads wikipedia is familiar with U.S. state abbreviations - I would actually write Florida for clarity and ease of understanding. Florida also doesn't require a wikilink.
Song titles shouldn't be italicized and should be within quotation marks like - "Escape", not Escape - as detailed in WP:MUSTARD and MOS:MUSIC. Billboard Hot 100 should be formatted and wikilinked like this - Billboard Hot 100. Also, the last two paragraphs are in need of some additional wikilinks and formatting, on things like Billboard magazine, bass, and rock band for example. The discography section is good but could do with being sub-divided into the artists own releases, guest appearances and various artists compilation appearances. Take a look at the Gene Parsons page and see how the discography there is sub-divided for clarity. This is kind of how I would present the discographical info in this article.
Lastly, as someone totally unfamiliar with the artist, I feel that the part where it says "as well as co-writing 3x certified platinum song by the RIAA" is confusing. Do you mean he's written three platinum certified songs or one triple platinum certified song? This ambiguity needs addressing.
All of these points I've made might sound like there's a lot wrong with the article but actually, the majority of its problems fall under the heading of formatting. There's not much actually wrong with the presentation of the article or its text. I'm happy to give you a hand on this article if you want me to but I'll refrain unless you specifically ask me to help. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 02:56, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dragn77, It is a nice start, I would try and include some biographical info as well. The article is for the most part his song credits and removing some might help with not only the size but the OVERLINKING. The artist's hits would be good or try and compress the section. --NortyNort (talk) 22:57, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Klingle Road

I've greatly expanded the Klingle Road article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klingle_Road , and perhaps this will no longer be classified as a "stub". Abuelo jack (talk) 17:04, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, at first glance, it certainly looks to me as if it's big enough and comprehensive enough not to be rated as a stub any more. However, a bigger problem is that this article had no Lead section - that is, the paragraph or two at the start of the article, before the first "The automobile road" section. Check out WP:LEAD for details on how to construct a suitable lead section. Don't be afraid to repeat info in the lead that is touched on elsewhere in the article because that's exactly what a lead section should do - give a short, overview of the most important points of an article for the casual reader. If people want more info then they can read the rest of the article. Check out the lead section for the album Mr. Tambourine Man, which I was recently involved in writing, and you'll see how it touches upon all of the most important points regarding the song - then these same points are covered in much more detail later on within the main body of the article. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 17:48, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For instance, the article says that programmes made by True North Productions "have so far been screened in 186 countries." However, the ref that follows this statement directs to a web page and nowhere on that webpage does it state that this the correct number of countries. It's not enough to link to a website which may contain the relevant info, the inline refs should link to the specific page where the information you're citing can easily be found. Consequently, I've tagged this article with multiple "failed verification" tags and a "citecheck" banner at the top. These should only be removed when this problem is fixed. There's also the possibility of a conflict of interest with this article but as long as you're careful that what you write isn't biased, it should be OK. Post a message on my talk page (click the word "talk" in my signature) if you want any further help or advice with this article. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 15:46, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Daisy Alliance

Daisy Alliance is an article I have just written. Before continuing, I would like to know whether being both author/editor and founder of Daisy Alliance would be a COI. Bruce RothBrucearoth (talk) 16:17, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would be a conflict of interest- as founder, you may be unlikely to add unfavorable information/criticism about the organization and may, even unknowingly, write the article like an advertisement. However, you may continue work if you "exercise great caution".
If you have already written the article, make a userspace draft (see Help:Userspace draft) by creating User:Brucearoth/Daisy Alliance and ask on this page for comments on your draft. If the article is deemed notable and NPOV and is created, declare your relationship on the article's talk page and avoid making edits to the article other than undoing blatant vandalism. Rather, request changes on the article's talk page.
First things first, though- establish the notability of the Daisy Alliance. I searched just NY Times (found no articles) and UN.org (found this page). You'll need at least 2-3 third party sources to establish notability- see WP:GNG and Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). Liqudlucktalk 23:53, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The subject does not seem to meet Wikipedia's notability standards (see particularly WP:BAND). The sources offered also are insufficient for Wikipedia's verifiability policy. Moreover, the text appears to be copy/pasted from the band's website, in contravention of Wikipedia's copyrighted material policy. The article should be deleted in its current form and recreated if and when the subject can be verified to meet the notability standards. Bongomatic 21:36, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you need to give it some structure, and you need to watch spelling errors (it's vertical and horizontal, not virtical and horizantal). also, this would probably be better as part of a bigger article on computing circumferences...
for structure, what you should do is write out an introductory paragraph - basically tell us what the article is about, and then start a new section where you tell us how to do it. look at the manual of style to get an idea of what the page should look like. --Ludwigs2 23:28, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cynthia Cozette Lee

User:Lezahstar/Cynthia Cozette Lee is an article about the life, music and works of a living African American female classical music composer. Please review the article's format and language to see if any changes need to be made in the article. I think the article is ready to go live. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Lezahstar (talk) 02:55, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While Cozette sounds like a great musician, the article does not yet demonstrate her notability (how Wikipedians determine what subjects merit an article) and, as a result, would likely be deleted. The basic way of establishing notability is to make sure the article meets the general notability guideline. If the article is unable to meet that guideline, it may meet more specific, music related notability guidelines on Wikipedia:Notability (music). If your article is nominated for deletion, be prepared to defend your article by demonstrating how it meets at least one notability guideline.
The article also has a lot of information but no references. Wikipedia has a policy against original research, so please cite your sources. If you're unsure of how to cite, please see WP:Referencing for beginners. The latter part of the article looks like a resume- please convert this to prose.
Hope that helps. If you have questions, contact me by clicking the pink "talk". Liqudlucktalk 06:52, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice start. What you'll need to do is add inline references to the supporting material- please read WP:Referencing for beginners. References should include at least the resource's author, publisher, and access date. The preferred way and, in my opinion, the easiest way of citing accurately is by using citation templates.
It may be worth adding the infobox for legislation: Template:Infobox Legislation. Leave unapplicable fields blank and they won't show up. Let me know on my talk page if you have further questions (click "talk" at the end of my signature). Liqudlucktalk 01:07, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • She is pleasant on the eyes in that picture but it appears to be a copyright violation. Is Myspace actually raeleased under Creative Commons or did you just tag it as so?
  • The citations are not formatted. Wikipedia:Citing sources/example style and Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners might help.
  • Myspace as an external link is normally to be avoided (WP:ELNO).
  • Category:FA-Class biography (arts and entertainment) articles might help you with some ideas on possible avenues of expansion. Wikipedia:Layout is also a must for how to handle the different sections.
  • "Or a hooker. She is Jewish" is just plain weird. I assume they are not related but you took something that should be quoted (and put in context for the reader) and plopped religion next to it.
  • Add an infobox
  • Find more sources. Any reviews or other independent write ups in the press?
  • It might need a new title. Madison(DJ/entertainer/something like that)

The article is nicely laid out, but my worry is that that the subject is probably not notable. If one of the companies he has been involved in is notable, then the usual thing to do would be to have an article on that company and mention its founder or leader in that article. And if a businessperson has not been involved in any companies that are notable enough for their own article, then that businessperson is almost certainly not notable in their own right. Have a good read through the guidelines at WP:Notable. Itsmejudith (talk) 17:27, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I would like to request feedback on my article, Tika and The Dissidents This article is about indonesian band Tika & the Dissidents who received many achievements despite releasing their album on their own label. Thank you. Antosastra (talk) 14:35, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a couple of maintenance tags which really speak for themselves. The tone, especially in the lead paragraph, is not appropriate, see WP:LEAD, and overall the tone is a little too promotional and unencyclopedic. You should also make sure that the band meets the notability requirements set out at WP:BAND. – ukexpat (talk) 21:03, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There's some formatting problems with this page. For example, the song and album titles - they don't need to be in bold for a start. You might want to take a look at WP:MUSTARD#Formatting and WP:MOSMUSIC to see how things like song titles/album titles and music articles in general should be formatted. Also, the magazine mentioned in the first sentence should be formatted as Time magazine, as per WP:MOST. In addition, there seems to be some inconsistency in the body of the article regarding whether the band is called the Dissidents or The Dissidents (with a capital "T"). This needs to be correctly decided upon and then stuck to, as per Names (definite article). My feeling, from the little bit of research on Google I've just done, is that it should be The Dissidents. However, if this is incorrect then the article title itself is also incorrect and should be moved to Tika and the Dissidents. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 22:41, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a look at WP:CORP for our notability guidelines for companies and at WP:FAQO for more detail. At the moment the article does not address how or why the company is notable - you will need references from third party reliable sources to support notability, and those references must be significant coverage rather than just passing mentions. – ukexpat (talk) 20:31, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Natrob87 (talk) 21:49, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A few comments: first, because of your connection with the company, you have a significant conflict of interest and are strongly discourage from creating such an article. However, that is not fatal assuming if the article is written from a neutral point of view. On the substance, please take a look at WP:CORP for our notability guidelines for companies and at WP:FAQO for more detail. You will need more references from reliable sources to support notability, and those references must be significant coverage rather than just passing mentions. On the formatting, please take a look at other company articles to see how they are laid out - you don't need the first heading, but you do need a lead section as described in WP:LEAD; you should also Wikilink to other articles where appropriate; and we use sentence case for headings as described at WP:MOSHEAD. But first concentrate on the notability issue, the formatting can be cleaned up later. – ukexpat (talk) 20:20, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have to tell you, this won't become an article. It will be regarded as a bit of trivia and violation of our biographies of living persons policy. Also, I read in it that an event of the 2000s coincided with "the first snow in London since 1922", sourced to the Washington Times. I think you'll find that there was quite a lot of snow in 1962-3 and in 1978-9, just to pick out two of the coldest years. Perhaps it's a typo for 1992, in which case - what's the big deal? I hope you will try your hand at other articles - if you do, look at the style for WP:LEDE lead paragraphs. Itsmejudith (talk) 17:38, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment the tone is a little too promotional and your use of he circle-R is not appropriate - see MOS:TM. Also, to support notability, you will need significant coverage in sources that meet our requirements as to reliability - see WP:RS. Note that directory-type listings are not sufficient, we are looking for coverage in, for example, the press - newspapers etc. Also note that if you are creating the article on behalf of the company, or you are otherwise connected with it, you have a conflict of interest and are strongly advised not to create the article. What needs to be resolved first is whether this person is notable enough for an article. With CEOs, it is important that the company itself should be notable. At the moment, his company doesn't have its own article, although there is an article on the group that it belongs to. Even when a company is notable, the CEO often isn't, although there are of course exceptions for famous CEOs like Steve Jobs. So the most appropriate thing to do is to consider whether there is enough independent coverage of the company to create an article for it. If you do, put some information about the CEO in it - when he took over, his business background, perhaps something about his plans for the company. Best of luck. I read one of his articles and really empathized with his points. I appreciate any comments or ideas on how this article can be improved. Thank you! Katie Greenfield —Preceding unsigned comment added by Edgewest (talkcontribs) 22:50, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Katie, I have reviewed the article. The biggest problem is with external links - links to sites outside Wikipedia. These should be kept within the guidelines set out at WP:EL and ELs within the body of the article should be avoided where possible. So you will need to strip out all of the external links that you are not using as references (those you can keep and put within tags). You are however strongly encouraged to link to other pages on Wikipedia where appropriate and to do that you should enclose the title of the page within double square brackets and not use the full external URL. So Philip J Day rendering as Philip J Day is the proper way whereas Philip J Day rendering as Philip J Day is incorrect. Also, unless the subject deliberately does not punctuate his middle initial, the article should be moved to Philip J. Day. Once we have sorted out the linking issue, we can take another look and see what else needs tweaking. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 20:36, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have written a new article about Dr Brian Smith, an innovative thinker and prolific author in the field of Marketing Strategy. I'd appreciate any suggestions and help, especially improving the format, references, links etc. as this is the first article I've written. I also think it would be helpful to upload a couple of pictures - one of Smith and one of "Smith's Wheel" mentioned in the article - but I don't know how. Finally, have I got the references and external links correct?

Have a look at our notability criteria for academics, WP:PROF. Can you identify one of these that Dr Smith meets? If not, then he may not be notable enough for an article (yet). Best of luck. Itsmejudith (talk) 14:04, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Smith is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and was formerly International Vice Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. His work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals and is also cited in other academic papers. His research has influenced academic thinking in the field of Strategic Marketing at a number of different academic institutions although he is not employed by any of them. So, I think, it's safe to say Smith is notable in his field.

My next questions are practical - how to amend the article to reflect this? And how to make the article 'live'? --Wickie Bruce (talk) 11:28, 26 January 2010 (UTC) Wickie Bruce[reply]

you need to include reliable sources to establish notability, MI2N is unlikely to qualify because it allows anyone to submit their own PR or news releases and distributes them for a fee. You need to find significant independent coverage in reliable third party sources. A quick google suggests that you might struggle with this though results are of course cluttered by the SNL skitAjbpearce (talk) 14:57, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

George T. Heery

This is the first full article I've written and wanted to open this up for review. The subject is George_T._Heery, a famous American architect who is most notable for his contributions to the foundation of the Construction Program Management industry. Regarding notability, Heery's first firm Heery International, is an internationally known company and Heery is widely known throughout the design and construction industry. I am continuing to do research to improve the article but felt that the article has reached a point where it might be ready for moving to main space soon. The one outstanding item I've marked for citation is the number of construction projects executed using a particular delivery method developed by the subject; I'm awaiting information from the General Services Adminstration, which apparently uses this process quite often. If I cannot locate information which can be cited to support that number I think that the sentence should be removed. Don’t bother as this article has been removed!

My request for constructive comments and more information has led to my work being rejected and searches in Wikipedia for information on dry rot being redirected to another much less detailed and, in some places, rather inaccurate, article. There was no attempt at any discussion with me about any improvements that I could make to my article before its removal and no interest has been shown in resolving the situation since.

I find it surprising that, when faced with such arrogance and lack of courtesy by the editors that anyone bothers to write for Wikipedia at all.

I thought the multiple non-trivial published works would establish the notability of the artist. I have referenced The Edmond Sun, OU Daily, Norman Transcript, and a blog written by a professor at The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma and DJ for The Oklahoma Rock Show 105.3 The Spy. The only of those that may be considered trivial are the OU Daily, but as stated in the guidelines those are considered on a case-by-case basis. They have been covered in more in the past, but they are not all archived online. I appreciate the feedback, but do you have advice for proving their notability further? Amyebutler (talk) 03:07, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Blogs do not usually qualify as reliable sources. So your first two are OK, the third - notice of a launch party - is trivial and the fourth probably not reliable. However, sources do not have to be online to be reliable. As long as they can be verified by someone interested in doing so, offline sources are perfectly ok and we have a template for them - Cite news (we also have Cite web if you are interested in precise formatting of online references). So I would cite some offline sources if you have them. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 03:16, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Collapsing draft article text

Risk Analyses, Assessment and Management (RAAM)

Risk Analyses includes: Developing an Inventory of Hazards and Considering Potential Hazard Release and/or Exposure; Reviewing Circumstances that can Cause Problems (Equipment,Facilities, Automated Process Control Systems); Reviewing Tasks performed by People; Considering Potential Hazard Release and/or Exposure; Considering Potential for Incidents, (Harm to People, the Environment/Ecosystem and/or Causing Damage to Equipment/Facilities/Tools).

Risk Assessment considers: The Potential Hazard Exposure Frequency, (are Vulnerable Objects such as People, Environment/Ecosystem and/or Equipment/Facilities often Close to the Hazard?); The Hazard Severity/Significance, (how dangerous is the Hazard?); The potential Consequence, (e.g. cut in the finger versus explosion); The likelihood of a Worst Case Scenario Incident. This Worst Case Scenario Incident Must be a Realistic Scenario.

Risk Assessment may be done in a Qualitative Fashion using Tools such as Risk-Matrixes and Nomograms, it may also be that Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) is required by Law or warranted based on other considerations. QRA includes Calculations of Incident Probability/Likelihood and Potential Effects, (e.g. Gas Dispersion Models and Explosion Effect Contours/Zones).

Risk Management is: Defining Appropriate Interventions/Measures, Preventing Hazard Release/Exposure in Priority Ranking; 1.) Eliminating the Hazard, (obviously best option if possible), 2.) Defining Multiple and Appropriate Measures to contain the Hazard, (Strong Layers of Barriers in-between the Hazard and Vulnerable Objects), 3.) Defining Measures to Mitigate a Potential Consequence if the Incident Would Unexpectedly Materialize/Really Happen, (e.g. Water sprinklers mitigating the consequences of a Fire).

The TOP principle should be used for Risk Reduction Measures:

Technical measures, (e.g. Improving Equipment/Facilities, Tools, Safe Guards, Automated Process Control Systems),

Organizational measures, (e.g. Training, Procedures, Organization of Work),

Protective measures, (e.g. Personal Protective Equipment such as breathing apparatus).

Most often All Three TOP measures are Needed In Combination, (Multiple Layers of Protection/Strong Barriers in-between the Hazard and the Vulnerable Object).

Tim, I have reviewed. It appears that the subject is notable as required by WP:BIO, but when the article is moved to the mainspace, there maybe questions about that because you have not cited your sources in-line with the text. Take a look at WP:CITE for guidance on that and let me know if you need more help. I also cleaned up the draft a little to bring it into compliance with WP:MOSBIO. I see that the article was previously speedily deleted as being too promotional. I am not an admin so I cannot see the deleted text, but if it is very similar to the current text, it may need to be toned down a little, though it looks pretty neutral to me. – ukexpat (talk) 15:59, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Several problems: the article does not indicate how or why the subject is notable per WP:PRODUCT; the references do not support notability and do not appear to be reliable sources as Wikipedia uses that term, see WP:RS; as an unreleased, beta, product, it probably falls foul of WP:CRYSTAL. User:Emb92/Chronicles of the Nerds is an article that I am writing for a web group that creates various forms of web entertainment (like weekly podcasts). I just want to make sure that it will not get deleted for not fitting to the correct criteria. Thanks for your help. Emb92 (talk) 17:16, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In case you haven't seen it, the notability criteria for web content is located at Wikipedia:Notability (web). As it is, your article does not meet this criteria and would be quickly deleted. To demonstrate a subject's notability, an article should link to (at least) 2-3 sources independent of the subject and its creators that give the subject a more than a trivial mention. These sources may be from newspapers (excluding school newspapers) or their websites, from published books, or other reliable sources. If the web content has received an significant award or honor, a link to a site stating it has won will also demonstrate notability.
Otherwise, the article is nicely formatted (nice inline citations) but reads like an ad instead of an encyclopedia entry. Change the opening sentence to a definition of the subject (Ex. CotN is a comedy video website). Words/phrases like "meticulous", "amazing", and "foremost goal is to receive and listen avidly" are inappropriate unless a reliable source agrees. The "foremost goal is to receive and listen avidly" sounds like it should be attributed as a quote from someone.
Good luck! If you have questions about these suggestions or editing in general, click the "talk" in my signature and leave me a message. Liqudlucktalk 20:57, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Center for Higher Education Policy Analysis

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Stefanir/Center_for_Higher_Education_Policy_Analysis

I have gotten no feedback on this article. Does that mean it is ready to go? Please review. Thanks.

Stefanir (talk) 19:27, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Does that mean it is ready to go?" Unfortunately, not necessarily. We have a large backlog of requests, and a shortage of editors dealing with them, and sometimes it takes a long time for a request to be dealt with. I have had a quick look at your draft article.
The general style and character of the article is fine: far better than is the case with many new articles, but some work needs to be done, particularly on the references.
You have clearly put some effort into providing references, but unfortunately some of them do not serve the purpose for which references are intended. For example, http://www.acenet.edu/resources/policy-research/index.cfm just links to an index and search page, which does not contain any information about CHEPA. It may well be that, by searching from there, it is possible to find confirmation of what you say in your draft, but a reference should take us directly to the relevant information, not just point us to somewhere we can search from. Then we have a link to a Google books page about a book which is mentioned in your draft. However, that Google page does not confirm the statement to which the reference is attached, namely "The Center's blog entitled 21st Century Scholar regularly features the work of guest scholars from around the country, including Yvonna Lincoln, co-author of Naturalistic Inquiry". The point of a reference is to show a source which confirms the statement made in the article, not just to give a link to something which is mentioned in that statement. Likewise the statement "The center is run by Dr. William G. Tierney, University Professor and Wilbur-Kieffer Professor of Higher Education at the Rossier School of Education" is followed by a reference to a page which mentions Tierney but does not tell us that the center is run by him, which is what the sentence says to which this is supposed to be a reference. Likewise the statement that Tierney "is the author of more than 16 books on higher education and the editor of more than 40 books, monographs and journals" is followed by a reference to a page which does not mention the number of his publications. So it goes on. Also, some of the information given is of marginal relevance: for example, the fact that Tierney runs the center is clearly of direct relevance to the article, but how many publications he has is of direct relevance to him, but only indirect relevance to an article on the center. Of course there is always an element of judgement as to how direct the connection has to be, but I do not think this information is relevant enough to justify inclusion, and the same applies to some other statements.
References should establish two things: (1) there is substantial independent coverage of the topic, to show that the topic is notable enough to have an article about it, and (2) the statements in the article can be verified from reliable sources. The requirements for these two purposes are a little different. The second purpose can often be achieved by references from sources from the subject of the article, or sources related to it (in this case sources from CHEPA, USC, etc). However, for establishing notability independent sources are essential, and at present these are lacking.

I agree that the awards section is too long - it needs to be pruned down to a handful at most. Hello Wiki editors,

I would be really appreciate any feedback on my draft article.

Oh! And in the first paragraph of my draft I wrote:

Proper title noted as: Recognizing the Messiah. Assessing Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qaadiyaan: His Claims, His Views, His Character, and His Movement (Published September 2004).

How do I link the title of the book to reference link below that I have in the External Links section? Or do I even need to do that?

Thanks for help. Keep up the good work!

Wixnstuff (talk) 07:56, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Wixnstuff[reply]

You could use cite book and fill in the appropriate fields as specified on the template page. Then put that between a ref and a /ref tag, which i see you already know how to do. You could also use that for other books mentioned in the (would-be) article.
However, there are larger problems than this.
  • One is that you appear to be writing an article about yourself. As you will see in our autobiography guideline, this is strongly discouraged. (If I am mistaken here, my apologies.)
  • Another is that the article as written is in form a biographical article but seems to be more about the book than about the author. If the main subject is the book, make it an article about the book.
  • A third, and larger yet, is that you need some independent reliable sources about the book and the author. You cite some sources (although how independent and reliable they are I can't judge) about Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, who is the subject of Recognizing the Messiah, but none about the book or about Nuzhat J. Haneef, who is supposedly the subject of this article. Perhaps you should create an article about Mirza Ghulam Ahmad? As far as one can tell from this article Recognizing the Messiah could be a self-published book that no one has heard of. If it is, it doesn't belong on Wikipedia. If it isn't, publication details (publisher, ISBN, etc) and citations of independent reviews or discussions of the book would help establish its notability, and published discussion of Nuzhat J. Haneef would help establish her notability, as suggested in our notability guideline for biographies. Addressing the issue of cited sources is far more vital than any formatting issues for this would-be article.
I hope this is helpful. DES (talk) 15:25, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Werd (S.O.S)

Draft page: User:Mike n jack/Werd (S.O.S) —Preceding undated comment added 16:58, 19 January 2010 (UTC).

This is actually pretty good for a new article, with reasonable inline references cited. You could use cite web and cite news in place of bare URLs, but that is a minor issue. It would be nice to see a cite for "appearing on national UK radio and international hip-hop stations in Germany, Norway, France and US." as that would significantly help establish notability. Do read WP:BAND and WP:MUSIC, the specialized notability guidelines in theis subject area. One possible problem is that i can't be sure which of the sites linked to are independent, WP:Reliable sources. An interview isn't independent, but its intro may be, except that http://www.planeturban.com.au/features/interview_werd looks like a blog post, which would usually make it not "reliable". If planeturban in general and this page in particular pass WP:RS, a note on the talk page User talk:Mike n jack/Werd (S.O.S) explaining why would be helpful. So would any comments on the reliable source status of Red Hot Velvet. Obviously cites from the record company aren't independent but are fine for establishing basic facts such as release dates and titles. The cite to http://www.leith.co.uk/ isn't particularly useful -- better would be a cite directly to the page where the project is mentioned and Werd's participation is discussed. http://ukhiphopmixtapes.blogspot.com/2009/12/certified-celtic-connection.html seems to be a blog, hence not normally considered reliable, and doesn't currently seem to mention Werd anyway. I sugest removing this reference or else linking directly to the p[articualr post or page where Werd is mentioned, and including a talk page note about why this particular blog is reliable (witten by an acknowledged, published expert on the subject, for example), if it is.
I hope this is helpful. DES (talk) 17:29, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Technically this is not a bad start. There is a paragraph duplicated in the introductory section (often called "the lede" on Wikipedia) and the "Theory" section. This should be at lest reworded in one place, or not repeated. One issue is that this seems exclusively positive, particularly for what seems a form of Alternative medicine. Have there been no criticism or negative opinions on this method? If there have been, the should be reported in the name of maintaining balance and a neutral point of view. Another possible problem is that most, perhaps all, of the sources seem to be written or co-authored by L. Silva. Has this method been independently discussed by anyone else? How widely accepted is this method? We need to be particularly careful on medical topics to distinguish between mainstream views, fringe views, one-man theories, and minority but widely supported views. Also, the one web site linked and some of the refernces' titles seem to imply that this treatment method is the proprietary method of L. Silva and those associated with him/her, or is pretty much solely advocated by such people. If so, the cited references are mostly not independent, which lowers there reliability for this purpose. If L. Silva and his/her associates are the sole advocates of this method, that should be stated, for example "Qigong Sensory Training is a specific application from the branch of Chinese Medicine devised and promoted by L. Silva that utilizes..." if there are any truly independent sources that discuss this, they should be added. There should be a clearer statement as to how widely accepted this method is. Good work so far. DES (talk) 17:30, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback. This is very helpful! I'll work on incorporating your suggestions. Krisgab (talk) 18:21, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've made the edits suggested by Liquidluck. If Liquidluck or anyone else could look at it one more time, I'd greatly appreciate it!Krisgab (talk) 20:22, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It still seems very promotional, or at least one-sided. There is still no mention of any criticism, nor of reactions of the wider medical community, positive or negative. Six of the eight cited sources have "Silva, L." as an author or co-author. One of the remaining two is published by the "Qigong Institute" which doesn't exactly sound independent of the concept. The concluding statement "Treatments based on Chinese medicine are directed to the cause of an illness rather than the symptoms, and, when given for a sufficient length of time, provide lasting change." should probably be qualified with "according to its advocates" or some such, and in any case cited. DES (talk) 19:34, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the first paragraph in the "Theory" section is still very similar in wording to the introductory paragraph, which makes it seem repetitious to a reader. DES (talk) 19:34, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pacific Buddhist Academy

Hi all,

Seeking feedback on a new article on Pacific Buddhist Academy, a Buddhist high school in Hawaii. I have yet to upload the logo and some related images, but otherwise I'm ready to turn it loose.

Thanks for any insights...

Kawiki808 (talk) 12:37, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty good for a start. Has the needed sections and some inline references, and enough references for basic support. It would be nice if facts outside the introductory section were referenced. The misison statement, as a quote, should have a cited source for example. It would be nice if there were citations for the outside financial support, the Curriculum the Peace Education section, and the demographics would be better if supported by a reference.
The text "Pacific Buddhist Academy teachers combine traditional college preparatory content with group projects and a global, applied approach to learning. Teachers aim to recognize and build upon students’ individual learning processes as students are taught to think critically, creatively, and to collaborate. Basic Buddhist principles including interdependence, compassion, mindfulness, and gratitude are integrated into all courses and throughout the daily life of the school." sounds like a quote from the school. If it is, it should be cited.
However not of those cites are essential before moving to article space. But if any of the content is taken directly from the school web site or other documents, it should be rewritten or converted to a sourced and attributed quote before this goes live.
Oh overall the tone is a bit promotional and should be made more objective.
I hope this helps. DES (talk) 23:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The phrase "Nebraska Compromise" does not appear in any of the news sources currently cited as references in the would-be article. The page says "Nebraska Compromise is the name coined for a deal made by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid" but does not say who coind the name, nor provide any cited examples of anyone using this name. One source said: "Critics were calling it the 'cornhusker kickback' and the 'Nebraska windfall,'..." but does not say who those critics might be, and does not use the term "Nebraska Compromise". The use, indeed the fairly common use, of this term ought to be documented by cites to reliable sources for this to go live. If possible, a cite indicating who originaly coined the phrase would be a good idea.
In addition, I think there have been significant new developments that modified the "Compromise" which are not included in the article as it now stands. DES (talk) 19:06, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The National Institute for Metalworking Skills

User:Nims22030/new NIMS - — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nims22030 (talkcontribs)

Draft article

The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) was formed in 1995 by the metalworking trade associations to develop and maintain globally competitive American workforce. NIMS sets skills standards for the industry, certifies individual skills against the standards and accredits training programs that meet NIMS quality requirements.

NIMS operates under rigorous and highly disciplined processes as the only developer of American National Standards for the nation’s metalworking industry accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

NIMS Stakeholders

NIMS has a stakeholder base of over 6,000 metalworking companies. The major trade associations in the industry- the Association for Manufacturing Technology, the American Machine Tool Distributors' Association, the National Tooling & Machining Association, the Precision Machine Products Association, the Precision Metalforming Association, and the Tooling and Manufacturing Association have invested over $7.5 million in private funds for the development of the NIMS standards and its credentials. The associations also contribute annually to sustain NIMS operations and are committed to the upgrading and maintenance of the standards.

NIMS Program Accreditation

NIMS accredits training programs that meet its quality requirements. The NIMS accreditation requirements include an on-site audit and evaluation by a NIMS industry team that reviews and conducts on-site inspections of all aspects of the training programs, including administrative support, curriculum, plant, equipment and tooling, student and trainee progress, industry involvement, instructor qualifications and safety.

Officials governing NIMS accredited programs report annually on progress and are subject to re-accreditation on a five year cycle. As of December 31, 2006 there were 162 NIMS accredited programs in operation. An additional 86 institutions and firms were in the process of completing the accreditation process.

There are 105 certified NIMS Team Leaders from private industry who lead the on-site audits.

NIMS Competency-based Apprenticeship System

NIMS has launched a new Competency-based Apprenticeship System for the nation’s metalworking industry. The NIMS system represents a dramatic departure from the time based system and integrates the NIMS national standards and skill certifications in defining and measuring required competencies.

Developed in partnership with the United States Department of Labor, the new system is the result of two years of work. Over 300 companies participated in the deliberations and design.

The new National Guideline Standards for NIMS Competency-based Apprenticeship have been approved by the Department of Labor. NIMS has trained Department of Labor apprenticeship staff at the national and state level in the new system.

Governance

NIMS is governed by a 24 person Board of Directors, the majority of whom are metalworking company executives. The Board also has representatives from training institutions, education, state government and organized labor.

NIMS financial operations are audited and reported annually in accordance with the Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133 and the provisions of the Single Audit Act.

Divorce Fairs

User:Suzymiller/Divorce Fairs

I would like to develop the draft article on Divorce Fairs which are now occurring throughout the world and yet have no information I could find on Wikipedia. I have posted a short history of divorce fairs and information about the first one in Austria (first in the world) and first one in the UK in 2009. I am interested in bringing together more information on this international phenomenon because I myself (as a single mum who went through breakup) created the first ever divorce fair in the UK.

Comments and contributions welcomed.

Suzymiller (talk) 23:01, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is really hard to review this article since there are not inline citations for verification. I honestly expect it to meet the notability guidelines. It really is just inappropriate without the references. One thing that jumped out besides the references:
  • You should trim out the end bits regarding the history of divorce. The scope of the article should be the conventions and not divorce in general
Take the citations used (plus more that are independent of the subject) and write a piece about the organizers and why the media (easiest) has said the fairs are noteworthy. Don't go as far as forcing notability. Just find some independent coverage (a write up in a newspaper for example) and cater the article to general info (not marketing). Feel free to shoot me a message or mention it here if you need a hand on the technical side of using inline citations and expressing notability in a neutral manner. This appears to be a bout a specific software product. It needs more context in the intro paragraph, but most of all it needs references from independent third-party reliable sources that show why this particular software is Notable.
Statements like "Top management can take policy decisions based on Trimatrix reports." sound like advertising.
Relevant terms and firm names should be wikilinked, for example "Cognos, Business Objects, SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and such other Business Intelligence (BI) tools" Not also that this sentence confuses tools and the companies that make them.
Text like "Using the existing systems, the top and middle management teams across the organizations in an enterprise are still not able to review an individual unit’s performance. Managers always want reports to be verified by junior. The reports are static and the supervisor cannot add comments or questions. The junior cannot attach in reply documents or presentations in a report for review. Any new report or analysis or new module takes months for the IT team to get ready." is original research unless these vies can be attributed to a named source in a citation to a published comment.
the section "more features added" particularly reads like an advertisement.
The "Triangulation" section does not explain how the three figures are supposed to confirm each other or are checked against each other.
Also if you work for or with the makers of this product, please read our conflict of interest page. DES (talk) 03:51, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This reads as rather promotional, a more objective tone would be helpful. Are there no negative facts or criticism that are well sourced? The Manual of Style recommends against curly or angled quotes, i have changed them to straight quotes. That "Every cent you own and every moment you spend is always an investment." is her favorite quote should be cited, and is it her statement originally or a quote from someone else that she favors? "Dr. Gary Becker (Nobel Prize winning economist and University Professor, Department of Economics and Sociology Professor at the Graduate School of Business, The University of Chicago)" is excessive qualification in a parenthesis, i edited to link to Gary Becker, remove the Dr (which wikipedia does not use as an academic title in general), and limit the text to mentioning the Nobel prize, which is quite sufficient to establish his emenince, readres interested in more detail can follow the link. WP:MOSTM says "Do not use the ™ and ® symbols, or similar, in either article text or citations, unless unavoidably necessary for context". I have removed a tm symbol. In view of its Forbes thing, the company is probably notable as required by WP:CORP. However, the tone of the article is too promotional and sounds like it was lifted straight out of the company's marketing literature. It will need to be toned down before it is moved to the mainspace. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 18:10, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The company is probably notable, but you only have one reference. You need significant coverage in reliable sources to evidence that notability - I am afraid that coverage in one source is not significant. The tone is also still a little promotional. I see from one of your edit summaries that you may be connected with the company. If so, please read WP:COI - you are strongly advised not to write about subjects where you have a conflict. The intro is rather long, and contains overly large paragraphs. These should be spit or some facts left in the body of the article. Some statements in the intro require citations.
phrases like "Beating the odds", "notably" "Ironically" do not belong in articles except in cited quotes.
The article has a good deal of clumsy writing and could be improved by a re-write. DES (talk) 03:12, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Given the number of citations and the length of the resulting cite templates in the wiki-text, the use of list defined references might be a good idea. DES (talk) 03:19, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Let's Adopt

I have created the page Let's Adopt, an animal rescue group in Turkey, and I don't want it to get deleted for not living up to Wiki's notability standards. I would really appreciate a second opinion. Thanks. Retinue (talk) 09:38, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actual link User:Retinue/Let's Adopt!. DES (talk) 16:16, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There could be a good article here, but there are several problems. Most of the sources cited are in Turkish, naturally enough for an article about a grass-roots organization in Turkey. However, if you can supply translations (or better link to translated versions if available) it would enable English-speaking readers (this is the English-language Wikipedia) to see what the source says. The citation templates Cite news and cite web have parameters for translated quotes.
The citations of http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sides/getDoc.do?pubRef=-//EP//TEXT+WQ+E-2009-0135+0+DOC+XML+V0//EN and http://www.todayszaman.com/tz-web/detaylar.do?load=detay&link=154796&bolum=100 to support the sentence "he group also organizes protests and campaigns against some city and district municipalities that are frequently accused of poisoning stray animals or abandoning them in woodlands to starve[10] and other alleged violations of Turkey’s animal welfare legislation[11]." are incorrect, as neither source mentions the group "Let's Adopt", although they are about the general controversy on animal rights and the killing of dogs in Turkey.
The phrase "in an embarrassing failure to pick up on a reference to the '80s comic" should not be part of the general article text: it is not for Wikipedia to say what was or was not "embarrassing". This seems to be a very close paraphrase of the news story at http://www.todayszaman.com/tz-web/detaylar.do?load=detay&link=178002 which said "... completely failing to pick up on a reference to the '80s comic ...". It would be better to quote the story exactly and attribute the quote. "embarrassing" should not be used unless there is a source which can be cited that used the term.
The phrase "made the front page of even some of the highest circulation dailies in the country" is awkward (IMO) and implies an opnion, how about "was discussed on the front pages of several of Turkey's major daily papers" instead?
The article as written seems rather promotional, please remember to respect the neutral point of view.
If you are a member of the group "Let's Adopt", please read our conflict of interest guideline -- writing about subjects one is too closely involved with is discouraged and must be done with care if at all, because it is very hard to be neutral about such subjects.
I hope this is helpful. DES (talk) 16:42, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is a referencing problem at the moment. All of your references are to either the company's own web site, to press releases, or to blog/forum posts. To verify an award by SD magazine, you should link to a page from SD that reports the award, or if that is not online, state the issue and date where this was announced. The same for ASP.NET Pro Magazine. References to third-party, independent, reliable sources are vital to establish notability. I suspect that this firm is actually notable, but you haven't yet provided the sources to demonstrate this.
Also, Wikipedia articles should never be used as references. They can be linked in the body of the article or in a see also section.
I hope this is helpful. DES (talk) 18:24, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Bombing of Braunschweig (Brunswick) Oct. 1944

WIKIPEDIA To whom it may concern:

I am a naturalized (1962) US citizen. A veteran of the USAF 1962-1965. I have a BA from UCLA in German 1969, and an MA from UCLA 1972 Theater Arts, major in TV and Radio.

I was born in Braunschweig, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) in 1940. To realize that those who cared for me as a baby, saved me through one of the greatest bombings in/of WWII, both by British and US bombers, comes both as shock and utter amazement to me.

I would be interested in adding a written addendum (essay) to the above headline. Sort of a "baby-infant" viewpoint of my very first memories of life of someone who was born in Braunschweig 4 years before the "Bombing of Braunschweig Oct. 1944."

Would Wikipedia be interested in my POV (point of view), of such an essay as addendum to the above headline; or just the British and US military records of that bombing?

If Wkipedia is interested in my POV essay, please instruct me in how and where to send my written work, please contact me here:

I am afraid that such an essay is relay not appropriate for Wikipedia, see our Neutral Point of View policy. Essays in userspace need not have an NPOV, but are supposed to be about how to build or run the encyclopedia. See Wikipedia is not a free webhost.
Such an essay would perhaps be a wonderful tribute, but you should post it on your own website, or on one of the many public fora that permit anyone to post onion.
And I might add it is a very poor idea to post your email address to Wikipedia talk pages. Such pages are indexed by Google, and email addresses posted here tend to get massive spam. And normally no one responds off-wiki except in cases where privacy is an issue or there is some other very unusual situation. in this case I am going to send you a copy of this by email. but normally i would not do so. User:Komowkwa/Robert M. Strozier

This is my first article and it concerns the person for whom the main FSU library is named.

Komowkwa (talk) 01:28, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looks pretty good. I have taken the liberty to format the citations with proper citation templates, and use named references to indicate where a give source supports multiple statements in the article. I also did some minor copyediting.
There might be more about what Strozier did during his term as president. You might have a look at http://news.google.com/archivesearch?um=1&cf=all&ned=us&hl=en&q=Robert+M.+Strozier (google news archive search)
The paragraph about the CIA connection is a bit dubious here since there is no statement that Strozier was involved with the CIA aspect while he was a member of the advisory council of the National Student Association, nor that the revelations were connected with him or affected his reputation in any way. What does the CIA involvement with the National Student Association have to do with Strozier? You don't say, nor do your sources.
Still I think this is ready to be moved to the main article space. Notability seems obvious DES (talk) 09:52, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, there is apparently a different Robert M. Strozier (a son?) who has written severla scholarly books, see http://www.worldcat.org/search?q=au%3A%22Strozier%2C+Robert+M.%22&qt=hot_author
I hope this is helpful. DES (talk) 09:52, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for spending your time on this. I really appreciate this and will follow up regarding your suggestions.
I was at FSU from 1964 through the end of 1974. When the CIA stuff came out in 1967, it was a pretty hot topic. I recall that the school planned to drop out of the NSA which they had joined while Strozier was President. However, I looked a little bit for some current references regarding the CIA/NSA stuff and did not find what I was looking for in the newspaper archives. I remember that there were some news reports on the subject and my search did find a reference for one of the statements in another article regarding the CIA. I think I can hold that section out of this article for now and will try to figure out how to "move" this to the main article space.Komowkwa (talk) 02:27, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It might well justify an article of its own, but the relevance to Strozier is not established by the cites in the article so far. I see you did the move just fine DES (talk) 14:10, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is not bad, but there are a few issues
  • There needs to be an introductory paragraph. This should start "Kalamazoo Manufacturing Company was..." and summerize the articel so that a reader gets a general overview right at the start.
  • It would be nice if there were a citation for the founding and early years, particularly for the dates.
  • The article says that the factory 'was described as "located admirably for its purposes".' Who so described it? Quotes should be attributed to a specific source, and if at all possible should be cited.
  • For the refs to the 1960 Kalamazoo Manufacturing Company Product Catalog, it would be helpful to give page numbers. It would also be helpful if an independent reliable sources could be cited for some of this information.
  • for the Kalamazoo Gazette references, listing the story title/headline, the page number, and the author if credited would be good. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for more detail. You might find that Cite News is useful.
  • the article now says "Despite a militant work force that went on strike a number of times...". Adjectives such as "militant" effectively convey an opinion, and should not be used unless they can be attributed to a specific person or source, and backed by a citation. This might be better phrased as "Although the employees went on strike a number of times..." and even then there should ideally be a specific citation or citations that document the strikes. News stories would be good for this.
  • The Wikipedia manual of style on numbers says "Decades as such contain neither an apostrophe nor the suffix -ies (the 1980s, not the 1980's, not the 1980-ies)."
You might want to consider using content from the following sites. I also found what seems to be your personal web site on the company.
none of these are huge problems, but fixing them will make the article much better. DES (talk) 16:36, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

THANKS!

I've made as many improvements as possible. As you know already, not every newspaper article has a name associated with it. Various other changes have been made so it's probably as ready as it can get.

I have reviewed it and removed the tag. Overall a good start on an article. I apologize if I haven't correctly provided the correct information - this is my first article for Wikipedia!

A reasonable start. There are several major issues, however:
  • Notability. You cite several references but since they are not online (or links are not provided) it is hard to say if these are in-depth coverage or passing mentions. Relevant quotes, if sources are not online can help. Remember that articles should pass the general notability guideline.
  • Formatting. Most of the article is now in an outline style. This should all be expanded into prose (or dropped where overly detailed) before the article goes live.
  • References. See our citation policy, which supports our verifiability policy. If much of the outline is expanded there will be lots of facts in need of supporting citations from reliable sources. Note that awards should be supported with citations to independent sources, not company pages, documents, or press releases, whenever possible.
Also, if you work for or with the company, you should read our conflict of interest policy and be very careful if it applies to you and this subject.
I'm afraid this is a long way from begin ready to go live.
I hope this is helpful. DES (talk) 20:52, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank your for the feedback! I will redouble my efforts to learn how to do this properly. I know the plot section is totally unsourced, and I'm working on that. Hello, I have created a new entry which is currently in draft form at

User:Meechpod/Marijan Dundek

I've tried to find the answers to the following questions but I'm afraid I got lost in the many different help sections. My main questions are:

How do I upload the two images? (public domain)

How do I add the subject category?

There are probably some other issues that need fixing, like the format of the links in References and External Links.

I think that once these issues are resolved, the article is ready for going live.

Thank you for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.

Meechpod (talk) 12:25, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You add categories by typing eg. at the bottom of the page for each category that you want the article to appear in. It's best not to do this until the article is "live".
For help formating your references, see Wikipedia:Citing sources. You especially need to make sure that you reference his "claims to fame" so to speak - say who thinks he's an authority, where does it say his book is the top-selling one, the most popular etc.
By the way, to link to an article or page here, like you have done above, you just need to enclose the name in two square brackets, eg. article name here gives User:Meechpod/new article name here.
Hope this helps, --BelovedFreak 13:07, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(after edit conflict) I'll leave the upload question to somebody more familiar with that than I am; but are you sure the pictures are public domain? You'll need to demonstrate that. (If you're planning to use the photo of the Lesotho Promise from the Jewellery Outlook article, that appears to belong to Graff Diamonds).
You add an article to a category by inserting anywhere in it - usually at the bottom.
There are indeed issues which need fixing, so that the article is not ready for going live. The minor point is that the language is not encyclopaedic: please read WP:PEACOCK. The more serious one is that there are no independent, substantial references to reliable sources. While the article does implicitly assert the subject's notability as the author of a significant book, you need to establish his notability, and meet the stringent requirements of WP:BLP or the article will certainly be nominated for deletion as non-notable. --ColinFine (talk) 13:09, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your prompt feedback. I have removed 'peacock' terms such as 'top-selling' and 'popular' ('top-selling' was included on the basis of the book having the top spot in the Amazon ranking of books of this subject matter -- is that allowed to be mentioned?).

I read the section WP:BLP and it seems that the subject meets these criteria, as his book has been judged notable in its field by the organizations mentioned and peer reviews (such as the two cited in references). I'm not clear as to why these two sources do not qualify as independent, reliable references, as they come from independent published sources.

I don't believe I have other source material I can add, so please tell me if you feel the article does not merit inclusion on the basis of the references given so far and I will delete it. Thank you for your help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Meechpod (talkcontribs) 18:38, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
