But need clarify on the shooter because he was born in an Air Force base and his stepmother. Is there anyway to find it out?. And if so, what are the source so I can put it up as well. Thank you. --LLcentury (talk) 20:00, 12 September 2016 (UTC)

Article not linking

Can anyone fix the error at J. T. O'Sullivan#NFL statistics. Can't figure out why the years won't link. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 01:01, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed by replacing tabs by spaces.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 01:13, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder that many times too... Lourdes 03:17, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Broken code which looks right is sometimes caused by invisible Unicode characters or a character which looks like another. You can fill out the "Characters" field at http://r12a.github.io/apps/conversion/ (tool unrelated to wikis) and click "View in UniView" to see the used characters. If you only want to fix the code and not find out what was wrong then you can also just try to delete it and manually type it. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:46, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, interesting. Thx. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 16:49, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Account deletion

I want to delete my Wikipedia account? how do i go about doing this?Zielinski Auto Parts (talk) 02:11, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Zielinski Auto Parts, this subject is addressed at WP:U#Deleting and merging accounts. Basically, it's not possible to delete an account entirely, but it's entirely fine if you just want to stop editing with this account. Nyttend (talk) 02:19, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So there is no way possible for it to happen. not even done by technical with my persimmon to do so?Zielinski Auto Parts (talk) 02:21, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Our software doesn't allow it. And even if it did our copyright restrictions don't allow it. Sorry. You can request to be vanished but that is about it. --Majora (talk) 02:27, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rfc problem

Hello. This WP:RFC launched on 5 September still has not been automatically added to Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Politics, government, and law and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Wikipedia technical issues and templates, and thus has not garnered much community-wide attention. How to indicate that a new article in one language is available in other languages?

If i create the missing article in Danish for the region Livernon, which in Danish would be at da:Livernon, how do I indicate that this article is available in other languages, so readers get the list of references to other languages to the left when the read the article in Danish? --MortenZdk (talk) 08:08, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Change a title.

Dear help desk,

I would like to change the title of a Wikipedia page of the hotel I'm working with:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Hotel_Bah%C3%ADa_del_Duque_Resort

The hotel has changed its name to just "Bahía del Duque". Could you please tell me how to do it? I read the help articles but I couldn't make it.

Thank you so much in advance,

Jonatan Rey. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JonatanReyB (talkcontribs) 09:17, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, changing a page title is done by 'moving' the page via the 'more' tab at the top of the page. This will only be available to you after your account is four days old and you have made at least ten valid edits. However, as you have stated you have a connection to the article subject, you should not be editing the page yourself. Please see WP:COI for more information. You should make requests for edits at the article talk-page. Please sign your posts on talk-pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 09:28, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

errors in information in details of village panchayat information under ibrahimpatnam mandal

In Ibrahimpatnam mandal, Ranga Reddy district, Telangana state you have given the information about the panchayats. In Mangalpally panchayat you have given the telephone code is 040. But 040 is the Hyderabad city code. Actual code is 08414. Next, in Patelguda gram panchyat you have given the transport code is AP 26. But AP 26 is belongs Nellore, Andhra Pradesh state, Not Telangana. correct code is TS 08. Please rectify it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.206.211.35 (talk) 10:59, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The correct code is already given in the first article that I found. Could you provide links to the articles which contain errors, or, even better, make the corrections yourself. This is the encyclopaedia that anyone can edit. Dbfirs 19:33, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not all of the user scripts I have installed are working all the time

It seems that only half of the user scripts that I have installed on my common.js work at a time. Sometimes they seem to go out at random or not load at all. Any ideas on how I can fix this? I've already cleared my browser cache and removed some lesser scripts. -- MorbidEntree - (Talk to me! (っ◕‿◕)っ♥)(please reply using ping) 11:40, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The SidebarTranslate gadget does not play nice with the "Compact language links" feature and you should disable it, if enabled. how to swap redirect page and main page

Hi there

The pages https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jodi_Vaughan&redirect=no and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jodi_Vaughn should actually be reversed. The NZ recording artist's name is Jodi Vaughan (as can be seen on any of her record albums https://www.google.com.au/search?q=jodi+vaughan+records&safe=active&espv=2&biw=1590&bih=906&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjoiYibuIPPAhWFJ5QKHcvIACEQ_AUIBygC&dpr=1#safe=active&tbm=isch&q=jodi+vaughan), it is not and has never been Jodi Vaughn.

What to do about suspicious 'own work' attribution on a logo?

I am concerned that this logo may be incorrectly attributed. I believe the logo is for a school based organisation and has been around for quite some time. But it doesn't ring true that such a logo would be released into the public domain. Can it be tagged or challenged? How? And what happens then? TIA CalzGuy (talk) 08:26, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

CalzGuy As there's no evidence that it's actually their own work, then in general, the image is a copyright violation, and should be listed for deletion on both English Wikipedia & Wikimedia Commons as an F11- file with no evidence of permission.
In this case however, the image is a non-copyrightable logo, as it consists only of simple shapes & letters. In this case, the copyright status should be changed to PD-textlogo . Joseph2302 08:53, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

Hello everyone,

I know this is probably not the right place to ask this sort of questions but for a non-native English speaker, the procedures are a tad too complicated to sort out. Can someone please link the Category:École pratique des hautes études faculty to its French corresponding category, fr:Catégorie:Enseignant à l'École pratique des hautes études and also give me the link to where I should have gone in the first place. Thanks in advance; LouisAlain (talk) 13:31, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@LouisAlain:  Done There were two separate items on Wikidata, so I have merged them. I can explain if you want, but it's a bit more complicated than just adding a language link (which you do by clicking the "Edit links" below the list of language links in the sidebar, and then typing in the language code of the wiki (e.g. "fr") and the page name on the other wiki). nyuszika7h (talk) 14:24, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Grazie mille, yes, it looks rather complicated but now I can add names to the English category; LouisAlain (talk) 14:35, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please clarify rules on uploading photos

The subject of a Wiki article I worked on has sent me a photo he says was taken by himself. He would like this image to be used in the Wiki entry about him. Is this OK, if so how do I describe it in the upload data? If not, how else can I get a suitable photo with no copyright issues without doing it myself ?--Penbat (talk) 15:56, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The simplest way would be for him to upload the image as self-made, otherwise you will have to take a picture yourself orjump though hoops. If his image has been published elsewhere, you would probably have to get a release through that route anyway. Simply asserting that you have permission to use the image, isn't sufficient. can we please try to attempt again to submit with approval an article on the Williamsburg Independent Film Festival?

Best,

Peter Bloch — Preceding unsigned comment added by Willfilm123 (talkcontribs) 22:20, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Peter, you should first go through WP:Notability (events), Wikipedia's guidelines on which events may be included in Wikipedia. The guidelines also list the criteria that Wikipedia's editors may use to assess whether your festival event is notable enough to be included. I'll recommend that you additionally read some more guidelines that may be relevant to you: Wikipedia:Your first article#Are you closely connected to the article topic? (this describes why you should perhaps not be creating an article or editing topics on Wikipedia with which you are closely associated), WP:Requested articles (the place where you can request for an article on your festival to be created) and WP:Username policy (Wikipedia's policy on usernames, as per which your current username may get blocked any moment because usernames should not be promotional). Feel free to write back for more guidance on this issue. Thanks. Lourdes 22:33, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Peter (Willfilm123 ) I see that two drafts have been made about this festival in the past, Draft:Williamsburg Independent Film Festival (which was deleted because no one was working on it, and can be revived at any time) and Draft:Williamsburg Independent Film Festival 2 which is still around, but was declined in favour of the other one. You can choose to work on either of these. Lourdes has pointed out the problems with editing a page about your own festival, but it's okay to do so in "Draft" space as long as you submit your work to the Articles for Creation reviewers to make sure it's not promotional and that it has multiple references to news, magazine or book articles written about the festival (not press releases or upcoming event announcements) to show that it's well-known outside the local community. There is no need to wait for a specific period of time to pass before resubmitting your draft - there's even a "Resubmit" button in the pink box near the top of the draft; however, it will be declined again if it doesn't meet the notability requirements in the link which Lourdes has provided above. Of course, waiting a while can be helpful if in the meantime reporters and journalists write about your festival! I hope that you will also make a new user name which represents you as an individual, because, as noted above, usernames which represent organizations or groups aren't allowed.—Anne Delong (talk) 23:11, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Peter. It might help to realise that Wikipedia has essentially no interest in what you, or anybody else connected with the festival, have said or want to say about it. It is only interested in what people who have no connection with the Festival have published about it. This is why it is often hard for people with a conflict of interest to write a satisfactory article, and it is why we have the criteria of notability: unless there is truly independent published material about a subject, there is literally nothing which can go in an article. --ColinFine (talk) 21:03, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Jordi Puntí

Reference help requested.

Hi! As part of the ongoing WP:GOCE September copyedit drive, I performed some copyedits on the article Jordi Puntí. Unfortunately, when I converted a bare URL reference to a cite web template reference, an error occurred and I have not been able to resolve the error.

I would appreciate the help of more experienced errors to (a) resolve this error, and (b) explain to me how I should resolve or avoid this type of error.

Thank you! Still learning, Laatu (talk) 00:34, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Laatu (talk) 00:34, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The problem, as indicated in the help link for the error, is that the URL has spaces. I'm not sure if removing the spaces will affect the URL, but in a test I did without the spaces it seemed to still work. MB 01:04, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Laatu: The error has a "help" link to Help:CS1 errors#bad url which says: "The URL field is checked to ensure that it contains only Latin characters and does not contain spaces." Your edit contains spaces in: |url= http://traces.uab.cat/search?ln=ca&sc=1&p=Punt%C3%AD%2C+Jordi&f=author Jordi Puntí at Traces|title=Search Result. The actual url ends at f=author. You could for example say |url= http://traces.uab.cat/search?ln=ca&sc=1&p=Punt%C3%AD%2C+Jordi&f=author|title= Jordi Puntí search at Traces. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:10, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Text not showing up

In our .il article, there's a piece of code reading

Israel is still in the process of getting an internationalized top-level domain, <code dir="rtl">he</code>‎.

However, it appears as

Israel is still in the process of getting an internationalized top-level domain, Template:Rtl-lang‎.

My browser recognises the <code dir> box as text (the cursor changes to something like File:Wolf Lambert cursor.png when I mouse over it; it's no longer a normal pointer), and when I copy/paste the contents into another file, I see the Hebrew letters, but the box itself is blank. Any idea what's going on? It's not merely that a normal font is unsupported, because I can see normal renditions of Hebrew characters without problem, whether at he:.il or on en:wp pages. Nyttend (talk) 02:05, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I see Hebrew letters in all cases. <code>...</code> tells your browser to display the text in a monospace font. Your monospace font apparently doesn't support Hebrew letters, at least when they are bold.
code tags with bold: .ישראל
code tags without bold: .ישראל
No code tags, but bold: .ישראל
No code tags, no bold: .ישראל
I see Hebrew letters in all four cases. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:02, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Me too. Note that mine also has directional markers indicating that the text is RTL. With just one of those two markers, we get Template:Rtl-lang, which is visible. With the other one, we get .ישראל‎, which is not. The browser is Internet Explorer 11. Is there a functional purpose to specifying <code dir="rtl"> when the text is encased in an RTL-indicating template? Nyttend (talk) 11:31, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. All your examples have visible letters to me in Firefox 48.0.2. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:50, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I used to have similar issues with Internet Explorer. I use other browsers now (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) and they work fine. Lourdes 15:33, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

upload image file from ta.wikipedia.org to en.wikipedia.org

I write articles on old Tamil films in the English Wikipedia. Sometimes I find an image in the Tamil language Wikipedia that I could use for my article. However, if I give the file URL in the image in infobox, the image is not shown. A case in point is my article Doctor Savithri. There is an image in Tamil Wikipedia at https://ta.wikipedia.org/s/3vop But, when I give this URL, the image is not shown. Please help me how I could use the image. Thank you --Uksharma3 (talk) 11:45, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Uksharma3: A wiki can only display files which have been uploaded to either Wikimedia Commons or the wiki itself. The image at https://ta.wikipedia.org/s/3vop is copyrighted so it was uploaded to the Tamil Wikipedia with a fair-use rationale. That is correct for a movie poster. Commons does not allow fair-use images so you have to download it to your computer and then upload it here at the English Wikipedia with a fair-use rationale, and only use it in the article about the film. Start with the "Upload file" link under "Tools" in the left pane. Click "Click here to start the Upload Wizard", choose "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use", then "This is the official cover art of a work", then "Movie poster" in the top drop-down box. You also have to do other things before the "Upload" button becomes clickable. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:09, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: I have successfully uploaded the file and used it in the article. Thank you for your guidance. --Uksharma3 (talk) 12:46, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Murder of Milly Dowler - Dispute resolution possible?

In July I was involved in a talk page discussion regarding an edit dispute on Murder of Milly Dowler, with editors Chaheel Riens, David J Johnson and Sport and politics. When I failed to reach common ground with the latter two users, the latter proposed to take the dispute to WP:DRN. All four of us supported the proposal, but the dispute was never taken to DRN. I read on DRN that recent disputes may be taken there, so since the discussion is old, does that mean it is no longer eligible? And if it is, am I allowed to take it there? Linguist 111 Moi? how do I request write protection for an article, cannot find any link on the main page.Bob80q (talk) 16:26, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Bob80q:, based on your past editing, you perhaps are searching for WP:RFPP, although you should first understand under what situations will administrators protect a page. Lourdes 16:51, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Movement of forearm to human forearm

How is it possible to move a page to different name? I would like to request movement of forearm to human forearm. It would describe the content in much bettter way. Thanks --Hagar (talk) 17:15, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You need to be 'autoconfirmed' in order to do a move, which requires your account have existed for 4 days and have made 10 edits. However, unless there is another article on forearm that needs to be distinguished from the existing article there is no need to rename it in this manner and that is not our standard form for disambiguation which would be forearm (human). RJFJR (talk) 17:20, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hagar and RJFJR: I would say that this move, partially for reasons you said, would be "potentially controversial" and thus require a requested move on the article talk page, which is something you don't need to be autoconfirmed (or even have an account) to start. Pppery 17:35, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In this case, Human forearm would be WP:NATURALDIS, just like Human brain, for example. nyuszika7h (talk) 18:41, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Images not loading on Chrome

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and using Google Chrome. a lot of the time images on Wikipedia won't load, I have tried clearing the history but they still don't load. They eventually do when I refresh the page. - Champion (talk) (contribs) (Formerly TheChampionMan1234) 00:33, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The specific problem is that the images load then disappear, I tried disabling all my extensions but this still occurs, it was fine until a day ago. - Champion (talk) (contribs) (Formerly TheChampionMan1234) 01:17, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I was able to fix it by disabling the "use a prediction service to help load pages more quickly" option in the Chrome settings. I then downloaded and installed this extension [3] and added *.wikimedia.org to the options. - Champion (talk) (contribs) (Formerly TheChampionMan1234) 01:28, 12 September 2016 (UTC).[reply]
Never mind, this still happens, albeit less often, I don't know why. - Champion (talk) (contribs) (Formerly TheChampionMan1234) 07:51, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
• Champion, just out of curiosity, have you considered trying Firefox? Do tell if the issue persists even in Firefox... Lourdes 17:37, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Champion: Are you by chance using an antivirus program like Kaspersky? - NQ (talk) 17:42, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Or, if you use Avast, this may help. clpo13(talk) 17:50, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit reversion with no reason given(not vandalism)

Can any of you think reason for edit reversion https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Horse_racing&oldid=738588401#Criticism ?

Maybe I worded it poorly?Fruitmince (talk) 02:10, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

• Fruitmince, you should take the issue up with the editor involved, preferably in the talk page of the article. You've already queried the editor on his talk page. So await his response. In my opinion, perhaps the editor reverted this mistakenly. But wait for his response. Lourdes 02:20, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I should assure by default there is language bias? (Source isn't in English, WP:notreliable.) Fruitmince (talk) 02:30, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Fruitmince, first wait for the response of the editor concerned. Lourdes 03:06, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reference help requested.

It was a valid reference about history of that region -by government of odisha . It contains important information regarding historical name, culture and heritage of the region . How can i add it again?

Hi Rabidas. I have fixed the citation you attempted in this edit. Adding reliable sources to articles is always appreciated. The citation form you used, well, it did not really even resemble correct markup, so please read Help:Referencing for beginners. Controlling levels displayed at user talk table of contents

Hi, I'd like to collapse the extra levels at my own usertalk. I looked at template related to INDEX and TOC and fiddled quite a bit, but nothing worked. Is there a way to do that? Thanks. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 11:01, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@NewsAndEventsGuy: See H:LIMITTOC and Template:TOC limit. - NQ (talk) 11:36, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks but I tried that before posting, no joy.NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 11:38, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@NewsAndEventsGuy: If "collapse" means you want them to be hidden by default but have a "show" link then it's not possible. They can only be omitted completely with 2. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:48, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Category:PageABC#TitleXYZ

For example: If in cases of big cities I have a pages called "Mayor of New York", but in other (smaller) towns I have "Durango#Mayor" sections ... I want a "Mayors" Category that lists as {"Durango","New York"}... so when the user clicks on "New York" they get taken to the FIRST page of "Mayor of New York" and when they click on "Durango" they get taken to the sub-section page of "Durango#Mayor" ... Is this possible? Maybe the only solution to split Durango#Mayor section into its own "sub" page?? Hints welcome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.187.136.248 (talk) 13:24, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A category can only display the actual full title of a page or redirect. Mayor of New York in a category will display "Mayor of New York". It cannot display only "New York". It's possible to make a redirect to a section and place the redirect in a category. Only registered users can create mainspace redirects. If Durango#Mayor was a real section then a redirect could be created at Mayor of Durango with the text:
#REDIRECT Durango#Mayor R to section

See also Wikipedia:Redirect#Categorizing redirect pages
Redirects are displayed in italics in categories so it would display Mayor of Durango.
In a list in an article instead of a category, anything can be displayed and linked with a piped link, for example (click edit to see how it's written):

Referencing errors on Portal:Somaliland

Reference help requested. Portal:Somaliland Thanks, Bysomalilander (talk) 18:39, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Bysomalilander: These errors are showing up because the portal uses text copied directly from article, including references that are not part of the text that has been copied. But if you look at featured portals such as Portal:Geography or Portal:History, you'll see that it is a common practice for portals not to include the references at all, and I recommend that you take that approach to fix the reference errors. However, looking at the recent history of Portal:Somaliland, you first need to discuss at Portal talk:Somaliland whether the portal should exist at all. -- John of Reading (talk) 19:11, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

1. Go to the Deletion Log
2. Type the page title in the case-sensitive search field

BernhardUhl, anyone (including you) can see the list of your contributions, and as an administrator, I have access to a similar list of your contributions that have been deleted. According to the latter list, you don't have a single deleted contribution, i.e. no page that you've ever edited has been deleted. Can you tell us anything about the page that was deleted, with a link to it if you know its precise title? Nyttend (talk) 19:18, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent warning

Having found a relevant image, I just now added an image (permalink to the resulting edit) to the infobox at Martin County, Kentucky. To my surprise, it didn't show anything. I wondered if I'd made some mistake, so I tweaked the code and previewed, only to get a big red error message: Warning: Martin County, Kentucky is calling Template:Infobox U.S. county with more than one value for the "ex image" parameter. Only the last value provided will be used. (Help) Problem solved: I found the duplicate parameter, removed the one I didn't want, and it all works fine.

Problem: this warning appears when you preview an edit in which the result will have this error, but if you save the page with this error, it doesn't give you any warnings. Why not? With similar warnings for cite errors, we display them in the article itself (consider a random example, the first reference in Amitabha Buddhist Centre), so why not have a similar setup with the warning for this problematic template? Nyttend (talk) 19:25, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps because the issue you experienced was not an error but just a note about which value the template would use... As per Help:Duplicate parameters, "The message is not shown on the saved page, so readers will not see it, but it should still be fixed. Later editors may not notice the issue and mistakenly change the value of the first assignment. This will have no effect on the rendered page, since only the last assigned value is used." So yes, it would make sense to have some kind of a warning note within the actual article so such mistakes don't occur. Lourdes 19:40, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging Nyttend like you just did does not work, Lourdes because pings only get sent if you add a comment rather than modify an existing one. Pppery 19:49, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

But need clarify on the shooter because he was born in an Air Force base and his stepmother. Is there anyway to find it out?. And if so, what are the source so I can put it up as well.
