Hello and welcome to WikiProject Women in Red (WiR) whose objective is to turn redlinks into blue ones. Our project's scope is women's biographies and women's works. Did you know that according to WHGI only 17.53% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed? Content gender gap is a form of systemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate whenever you like in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Women in Red warmly welcomes you!

This April 2018 virtual Meet-Up is a continued collaboration between Women in Red and Art+Feminism; we're calling it "April+Further with Art+Feminism". Below, you will find links to many lists of missing articles about cis and trans women and gender non-conforming artists and feminist activists. These curated lists are meant merely to provide inspiration. You are, of course, welcome to contribute articles on women who have contributed to art in the widest sense, or who have been involved in feminist projects or activism. Articles on works, associations, and writings related to cis and trans women and gender non-conforming folks are also welcome.

Details:

  • Below, you'll see a section where you can add your signature to pledge to join us this month in editing articles.
  • You will also find a section where you can list the articles you create this month, and another section where you can add the images you uploaded to Commons.

The main goals of the event are:

  • to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of important cis and trans women, as well as gender non-conforming folks
  • to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on a specific area
  • to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of cis and trans women, gender non conforming folks and other marginalized communities
  • to promote the new/improved articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter)

What else?

  • This essay on creating women's biographies and our Ten Simple Rules might be helpful to newer editors.
  • If you tweet about any of the articles, or upload any of the images to Pinterest, please indicate you have done so next to the article name (below).
  • If you mention this work on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, use #artandfeminism and #editingaf
