:{{u|HistoryofIran}} It is obvious that when they emigrated they were part of Persian Empire. If you want to be precise then we can move 'Persian' to 'Persian Empire emigrants'. See similar cat e.g. [[:Category:Russian emigrants to the United States]]. If you've any concern then you may start a [[WP:RfC]] or show me any consensus and I'll happily revert. Otherwise, you're bias here with the name of 'Iran' ('Persia' switched to 'Iran' in 1935 so we can only name those people Iranian) and I suggest you should consult a neutral point of view.

Autopatrolled granted

Hi Greenbörg, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 23:42, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
For self-closing a recent AfD nomination you made when sufficient evidence for a GNG pass came to light rather than fighting things to the last ditch as a point of honor. New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Störm, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 14304 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a day.
  • Currently there are 532 pages in the backlog that were created by non-autoconfirmed users before WP:ACTRIAL. The NPP project is undertaking a drive to clear these pages from the backlog before they hit the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing a few today!

Technology update:

  • The Wikimedia Foundation is currently working on creating a new filter for page curation that will allow new page patrollers to filter by extended confirmed status. For more information see: T175225

General project update:

  • On 14 September 2017 the English Wikipedia began the autoconfirmed article creation trial. For a six month period, creation of articles in the mainspace of the English Wikipedia will be restricted to users with autoconfirmed status. New users who attempt article creation will now be redirected to a newly designed landing page.
  • Before clicking on a reference or external link while reviewing a page, please be careful that the site looks trustworthy. If you have a question about the safety of clicking on a link, it is better not to click on it.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

AfDs re Sri Lankan players

Hello, you were sadly mistaken when you wrote: "Delete it as this is established by previous AfDs that bios of these players should not be all stats. I don't think we will ever have coverage from which we can write enough biography for him. Not discussed in detail by multiple sources so we can write enough without WP:OR".

First, none of these Sri Lankan articles breach WP:NOTSTATS because they are written in prose with few if any statistics. Second, you need to read WP:NEXIST and take into account the Perera case re coverage in Sinhalese sources. Third, there is no original research in any of these articles.

Let me know if you want to query anything. It just seems to me that you have got the wrong end of a stick somehow. Thanks. Jack | talk page 15:51, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

BlackJack Thanks for writing this. I don't know what to say. I previously tried to stop this spree of AfDs and you know better I always defended WP:CRIN. But then, I found only two or three people defending WP:CRIN and other give more weight-age to WP:GNG and have no interest in WP:CRIC so that was protest kind of votes. I still want to defend WP:CRIN but also want a public thorough discussion to little amend the WP:CRIN or find a way to stop all these. I think that these guidelines are 10 years old so its almost a decade that we haven't changed anything to these guidelines. We should open-heartedly welcome any change either small or large in scale to make these guidelines compatible. This is also necessary so we all can come on same page. We have to understand that there is no line-in-the-sand and that every thing gets updated with time. Then, I think we should identify patterns that newspapers give detail coverage for which type of tournament or cricketer so at least we don't rely on only two sources. I think we can do this because almost all test-playing nations has enough English-language newspapers and we can search all cricket related coverage on their websites. So, maybe this is the time to make our guidelines equivalent with other guidelines so they can comply on Wikipedia. If I did anything wrong then forget that. Thanks. Störm (talk) 16:20, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, CRIN was created about a dozen years ago and it has changed many times, though never in terms of its basic principle that one senior appearance presumes notability for WP purposes (same for baseball, football and all the rest). I personally am always happy to discuss CRIN and I've written changes into it that I didn't support, but consensus was against me. I believe that the site's notability problems are with WP:N and especially the GNG part of it because it is contradictory. Trying to get it updated is effectively a non-starter. I do firmly agree, however, that there must be at least two sources always to meet WP:V and they must be inline. I sort of specialise in early cricket and I absolutely will not let CricketArchive anywhere near those articles because, for anything before the 1860s, it is unreliable as I've said many times. The problem with Sri Lanka, probably with Bangladesh too, is that there isn't enough English coverage before about ten years ago but they do have it over there in their own Sinhalese and Bengali newspapers. Maybe this discussion that's started at CRIC will produce something but, for now at least, I'm opposing the proposal. Anyway, thanks for replying and all the best. Good luck with your new name too which is a good one for us in GB as we've had a succession of storms lately including a hurricane!! Jack | talk page 19:17, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary double disambiguation?

Hey, I just noticed you moved the article Asukai Masaaki (17th century) to Asukai Masaaki (17th century poet).

Thing is, I came up with the original title based on a discussion of an article with similar problems here. I can see the problem that my original disambiguator was not a direct description of the person himself, but the way you changed it it looks kinda like there are are multiple Asukai Masaakis in the 17th century and that article is about the one who was a poet (although, if there was another 17th century Asukai Masaaki, he would have almost certainly also been a poet). As far as I am aware, the only other Asukai Masaaki is a 13th-century figure who was also a poet. And both of them were also apparently notable as kemari players.

I am not that hooked on it either way, and honestly disambiguators are one of those things I often just don't "get", so if you could explain to me how I got it wrong I wouldn't be offended or even all that surprised. (Although we'd probably have to reopen that Tang emperor discussion since I basically came up with the current title and everyone followed me, which would make it the blind leading the blind...)

Cheers!

Hijiri 88 (やや) 08:55, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hijiri88 At least we can't use word 'poet' because there are two poets, right? Then we have to use the year in which he/she born or century so I went with 17th century. We can't just say (17th century) because when someone will be finding him he/she will know that he is a '17th century poet' so it will be easy for him/her to find him. Anyways, you may change it if you like because you better know about such titles. Störm (talk) 14:48, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Shit, you're right. I thought I went with "17th century" and you added the unnecessary "poet". Sorry for the mixup. Pretty much everything I wrote above can probably be dismissed as based on a misunderstanding.
Anyway, if I recall correctly, my reason for not disambiguating the title of the 17th century figure was that he is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. My logic behind this was somewhat flawed, however: the 17th century figure has a standalone article in the Nihon Koten Bungaku Daijiten, while the 13th century figure is only name-dropped in their article on the Asukai family. I wanted to write entries on both for Wikipedia Asian Month, but couldn't find enough sources on a quick Googling to build more than a stub on the 13th century one. This means the 17th century figure is definitely more important (at least to literary history) than the 13th century one, but I honestly have no idea if any significant percentage of English Wikipedia's readership would be more likely to have heard of the 17th century figure and more likely be looking for our article on him.
Hijiri 88 (やや) 22:29, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing up the things. Störm (talk) 06:02, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I encourage you for your ideas in saving the cricket biographies relating to 1870's, 1900's etc. But I have a confusing stuff related to 2 articles which are interrelated to each other. List of cricketers from Sri Lanka is a list article which is almost kept empty. Can we redirect this list to List of Sri Lankan cricketers? Abishe (talk) 10:16, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Abishe: Done. Previous page is now on Lists of Sri Lankan cricketers. Hope this solved the problem. Happy editing. Störm (talk) 10:34, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Recommending new editors to your WP Cricket

Hi Störm,

Our system generated a list of potential new editors for your project. They may be interested in collaborating with your project members on your project's articles. As you will notice, the list contains both experienced editors and newcomers. Both are valuable for Wikipedia and your project. Please go ahead and introduce your project to them, and point them to some project tasks to start with. We also provide a template invitation message to make it easier to contact the potential new editors. Just click the invite link to write the invitation message.

We'd appreciate it if you could fill the survey to let us know what you think about our recommendations so we can improve our system.

Hmm.. Ideally, I don't think it matters for the tool whether there is any limitation on the project topics - it should just identify the most relevant editors existing in the scope of Wikipedia. In this trial, I find some bugs that caused introducing not most relevant editors. I've fixed it, and hopefully, it will send better candidates next time! Women's History Month 2018 at Women in Red

Welcome to Women in Red's March 2018 worldwide online editathons.

Historically, our March event has been one of the biggest offerings of the year. This year, we are collaborating with two other wiki communities. Rollback request

Hi,

There was a vandalism on the Pakistan Stock Exchange page on 16 December 2017 that went unnoticed. As a result, the page's infobox is lost. Can you please do a rollback on said page to the 3 December 2017 version as I see that you have made a couple of edits on it since the vandalism.

Thank you. - Wiki.0hlic 15:14, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to WikiProject Portals

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.

It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.

The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

Let's do this.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   10:24, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Improvement of this page

Hi,

Hope you are doing good, can you please help improve this page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haroon_Janjua

Regards HaroonJanjua (talk) 19:53, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   10:50, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: if you reply to this message, please {{ping}} me. Thank you. -TT

Thanks!

PROD

You might consider WP:PROD for nominations of things such as non-notable Catholic churches/parishes if the deletion is unlikely to be controversial. Saves a lot of time all around. TonyBallioni (talk) 16:42, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I undid your edit to CIP because there's no mention of CIP in Immigrant investor programs (the page to which Citizenship by investment redirects) and you didn't cite a source. if you're unsatisfied with my argument concerning Muhammad Tariq Dreshak, feel free to recreate the page and we may take it to AfD for wider community discussion. --Saqib (talk) 07:00, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Saqib I think if it is not official, then, we can leave it. I don't think it would be right to create and then subsequently nominate it for AfD. Although, we can discuss with the community, maybe at any Admin noticeboard. Störm (talk) 08:44, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ngrewal1 Many thanks for appreciating, I hope I'll continue to improve Pakistan-related articles. Störm (talk) 17:00, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I wanted to ask that should the controversies of Imran Khan regarding his personal life really be included in the biography. Since most of those allegations have never been proven. For example, the ones you added recently. Just like the personal life controversies regarding many alleged partners are not included in Donald Trump , I think they shouldn't be included here too. However if you think they are important, you can ignore what I say, since you are more of an experienced editor. Thanks Knightrises10 (talk) 20:51, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Knightrises10 Most of my addition is reported by many notable newspapers and is per WP:RS. I am all for removal of Reham Khan's allegations which we will separate into new page. I don't think you need to worry which should be there or which not, WP is WP:NOTCENSOR. Everything is allowed if it is cited by WP:RS and written in a neutral way. I always try to write in a neutral way thats what I can say. Thanks. Störm (talk) 21:00, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Knightrises10 And here they are. Donald Trump Access Hollywood tape, Donald Trump sexual misconduct allegations, Stormy Daniels–Donald Trump scandal, Racial views of Donald Trump. You see they are full-fledged articles. Störm (talk) 21:05, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Störm ok, it's my mistake.. And yes, I accept that what you added is fully accepted due to reliable sources.. I just asked that if they really should be included. Anyways, sorry once again. Knightrises10 (talk) 21:36, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unexplained move of category

Hello Störm, please take your concerns to the talk page before you change categories like Category:Iranian emigrants to the Mughal Empire, thanks. --HistoryofIran (talk) 12:33, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

HistoryofIran It is obvious that when they emigrated they were part of Persian Empire. If you want to be precise then we can move 'Persian' to 'Persian Empire emigrants'. See similar cat e.g. Category:Russian emigrants to the United States. If you've any concern then you may start a WP:RfC or show me any consensus and I'll happily revert. Otherwise, you're bias here with the name of 'Iran' ('Persia' switched to 'Iran' in 1935 so we can only name those people Iranian) and I suggest you should consult a neutral point of view.
