    Kendra Huard Fershee

Hi -- I just submitted an article called Kendra Huard Fershee for publication. It says it can take several weeks to get the article approved. But Kendra is running for Congress and the election is in a month. Can I somehow expedite the process? Thanks! Carolyn

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Kendra_Huard_Fershee — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tocarolyn (talkcontribs) 01:55, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In general, being an unelected candidate for political office is insufficient to meet Wikipedia's notabilty guidelines (see Wikipedia:Notability_(people), particluarly the section titled "Politicians and judges" for details). Also, another editor has nominated the draft for speedy deletion, using the justification that it is promotional and would be unacceptable in its current form even if the individual met notabilty criteria. Finally, we don't expidite the approval of draft articles to meet the personal needs of the article's subject. Deli nk (talk) 02:20, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Justin's middle name is Mark. I am his father..Mark Vernon Holmes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jestercat1313 (talkcontribs) 02:03, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The middle name doesn't seem to appear in any of the sources used as references, so I have removed it. Deli nk (talk) 02:13, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This stub is not much more than a dictionary definition and seems like a good candidate for copying to Wikitionary. However, I'm not familiar with the inclusion criteria over there – would this be eligible? TeraTIX 10:27, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Teratix: Check wikt:Wiktionary:Criteria for inclusion. If you think it fits, tag it with {{Copy to Wiktionary}}. Regards SoWhy 10:59, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @SoWhy: Thanks! TeraTIX 11:01, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Teratix:, while I've temporarily tagged it for deletion (pending reliable sources confirming the word), you can follow what @SoWhy: says alternatively. Thanks, Lourdes 11:06, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Lourdes: I can't find any sources that use the word as the article defines it, so deletion is probably the correct outcome. TeraTIX 11:21, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello,

    I just discovered these files: File:Luz-Casal Estudio-Promo-17 0192-700x1050.jpg and File:Luz-Casal Estudio-Promo-17 1264-700x467.jpg.

This is clearly a copyright violation. I asked for its deletion in Commons, but do I also have to report this here, or the Commons users will do the necessary actions?

@RomolettoRomoletto: We do not delete articles based on a request by the subject. Inclusion of an article on a subject is based solely on meeting the appropriate notability requirements, in this case WP:PORNSTAR, and the Monique Covet appears to meet them. In particular, the subject won two Venus awards. We can change the birthday and other details if you can provide a link to a reliable source (WP:RS). -Arch dude (talk) 19:52, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Biography infobox “age” feature not working?

Please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Mourdock — the infobox shows he was born October 8, 1951, but right now, October 9 at 6:02 pm EDT, it shows his age as 66. Since the source has this .... |birth_date = (1951-10-08) October 8, 1951 (age 72) .... I wonder if the wikimagic is broken?

How to change the title of your name?

    Hi:

I recently created a wikipedia for myself. My username is not what I want as the title of my page. I want my name as the title of my page. But right now (since the page has not been verified yet), the title shows my username. Can we change the title of our page? If yes, could you please help how to do it?

Thank you Joe — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joepaulmalayalam (talkcontribs) 00:13, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • Hey Joepaulmalayalam, welcome to Wikipedia. In short, the answer is "No, we cannot change the title of your page". I have left a message on your talk page about this. Follow the instructions written there. At the same time, as I have mentioned there, please read Wikipedia:Autobiography, a content guideline at Wikipedia, which would clarify to you why we strongly discourage writing autobiographies. Regrettably we are unable to read the OP's mind to find out in what way he/she thinks the content of the page is "inacurate" [sic], but I notice firstly that it has no references whatever, and secondly that the organisation's name is mentioned eight times in the rather short article, always in full and emboldened (as is the one mention of a similar organisation), making for a rather ugly appearance.
I intend to debold all but the first mention, convert some of the rest to "the Fédération" or "the FCQ", and to debold and wikilink the other emboldened organisation. I'll leave it to someone with some knowledge of the actual subject to contribute references and re-edit the page appropriately. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.217.102.65 (talk) 18:10, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Help reflecting logo change on Google preview box

I'm looking to change the preview image on the Wikipedia 'info box' on google.

Right now it is my old logo (see https://www.google.com/search?ei=ZOy9W4HvB6WO5wLvrL-oBA&q=tha+ocean+agency&oq=tha+ocean+agency&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0i13l5j0i13i30l5.9956.9956..10079...0.0..0.90.90.1......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71.-tAt3_Lb8RM)

But I've changed it on my Wikipedia page (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ocean_Agency)

Any ideas on how to prompt the change to reflect on the search page?

Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Melissasmith1 (talkcontribs) 12:13, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Melissasmith1: Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. L-3 Surviving Aircraft

    Good Morning,

I have a 1941 YO-58, one of the only four built and only 2 survived the war. I wanted to enter this information but can't get the page to accept my edit.

    It is:

42-459 1941 YO-58 Owned by Earnest Benton, currently undergoing total restoration in Cartersville, Georgia:

    • I hope your restoration is going well. There are no recent edits to the article Aeronca L-3. Please describe your editing problem. Note that we will require a citation to a published "reliable source" (WP:RS), just as with all of the other aircraft in the "existing aircraft" list on that page. Formatting a source is a bit tricky. If you have trouble with it, just slap your proposed addition together with the URL for the source into a new section of the article's talk page and I can try to format it for you. -Arch dude (talk) 15:45, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Using IP while at work?

I got a new job a few weeks ago, and thinking of the significance, I've made a few edits (exactly five since 9/19) while logged out while at work. I was wondering if there is a way to disclose that those IP edits were me, so as to avoid any accusations of improperity (even if it's unlikely they would be traced to me?).

Also, I am a bit paranoid about logging into Wikipedia at my new job. I don't know to what extent they monitor internet usage - but I'm sort of reluctant to log in to my WP account at work, at least not while new... anyway, is there a way I can disclose that the IP address is an 'alternate identity' of my account? I'd like to do this by the books. If not, I can just NOT edit at work but sometimes you see an error that is screaming to be fixed. Does this make sense? I think this makes me sound suspicious but I'm really not! ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 01:39, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • For the Wikipedia stuff: AFAICT you cannot "reclaim" edits from an IP to an account, though you can of course leave a note on the talk page signed by your account. You can however request WP:OVERSIGHT (on the "I forgot to log in" basis). And editing while logged-out does not need to be disclosed as long as you are not doing it in a deceiving manner (e.g. participating to RfCs under different identities).
This being said... You seem to have a very wrong idea of how internet works. Assuming you are accessing Wikipedia over HTTPS (with the proper certificate), network monitoring by your employer can only see that you access Wikipedia, not what data you send there or which page you view, so they should not be able to tell apart when you log in, edit, or view pages. On the other hand, your IP could (maybe) be traced to your work computer, so if they know to look at Wikipedia contributions, they can find the corresponding timestamps and say "El Cid was really slacking off today".
The above assumes your employer uses standard network monitoring rather than in-computer techniques (such as a keylogger or a modified browser), which could record pretty much every single action of you, but I would be extremely surprised if run-of-the-mill employers used this. HTTPS is not invincible either and there are plenty of side channel attacks to recover supposedly-encrypted information, but cryptography is a full-time job, so the chances that a sleazy IT guy will steal your WP password from network sniffing are extremely low (even detecting that you log in would be nontrivial). Misbehavior of the search engine

It is common that two redirects differs only by their capitalization and that the search engine proposes the miscapitalization instead of the right capitalization. For example, when typing "galois f" in the search window, the search engine proposes Galois Field, and not Galois field. This would not be a real issue if the correct capitalization would also be suggested, but this is not the case. This may be confusing for readers who know Wikipedia capitalization rules, and also for editors who try improving redirects.

I have tried to solve this issue by categorizing the right redirect with {{R from alternative name}} and the miscapitalized one with {{R from miscapitalisation}}, but this seems to not work, even after a few days.

What should be done for getting the correct suggestions from the search engine? D.Lazard (talk) 09:42, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • I am not sure that is a "real" problem since clicking the link from the search box leads you to the correct article (via redirect). This being said, there is apparently something preventing multiple capitalizations from appearing in the search field, so that something could as well give the correct one. Maybe head over to WP:VPT if none answers you here (on the HD)?
I strongly disagree that providing both capitalization as search results would be better - maybe it helps editors fix redirects, but it certainly would not help readers searching for a topic to have duplicated entries. TigraanClick here to contact me 09:57, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I also think it would be silly to show two redirects to the same page, or both a redirect and its target. The goal is to find a page and not to educate about capitalizations. If two capitalizations are different pages or redirects like Cat/CAT or Gold/GOLD then it's good that both can be suggested although it may only happen when some capitalizations are written in the search box. {{R from miscapitalisation}} is an English Wikipedia template and not a part of the MediaWiki software. I don't think there is any way to tell MediaWiki the preferred capitalization (apart from only having one capitalization). It would probably require a software change requested at phab: but I think the developers have better things to use their time on. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:46, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not seeing the AfC helper toolbar

As instructed here Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Helper_script, I enabled the script and purged my cache. I know that it was indeed "working". When I viewed any userpage, I was getting the message to the effect of "error, the user is not listed in the Articles for Creation participants". That was before I was added to the list here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants. I have now been added to the list and stopped getting the error message; however, I'm not seeing the toolbar that I was supposed to see. I wonder if you may have some advice for me. I'm using Google Chrome. --K.e.coffman (talk) 02:56, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Deletion of User Page

I have requested my user page to be deleted, but not sure how look it would take? ~~ DiasporaCryptid (talkcontribs) 03:49, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you've twice added (but soon after removed) the {{db-user}} tag. I would suggest that you leave the tag visible, as that puts the page into the relevant categories for speedy deletion requests. --David Biddulph (talk) 03:57, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
