Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)
    • For other types of questions, use the search box, see the reference desk or Help:Contents. If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page.
    • Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
    • If your question is about a Wikipedia article, draft article, or other page on Wikipedia, tell us what it is!
    • Check back on this page to see if your question has been answered.
    • For real-time help, use our IRC help channel, #wikipedia-en-help.
    • New editors may prefer the Teahouse, a help area for beginners (but please don't ask in both places).

    Pronunciation of "Vaclav Vaca"

Could anyone please tell me how to reformat the opening of the article on Vaclav Vaca to explain how to pronounce his name? It also says that "Vaca" should be pronounced as "Vasa", when I'm pretty sure it should be "Vatsa".--75.110.35.108 (talk) 00:31, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @75.110.35.10: I searched around for quite a while and couldn't find anything definitive (even on the artist's own website). Perhaps it's best to remove it since it's unsourced and you believe it should be pronounced one way while a prior editor believes it should be pronounced another way (unless you can find a source) . Orville1974 (talk) 12:55, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New indent between the end of a paragraph and (a) footnote(s)

Could anyone please tell me if this is ever appropriate? The opening section of the article on the volcano rabbit does this.--75.110.35.108 (talk) 01:04, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. In this case the refs were for the preceding sentence so there is no possible justification for moving them from the end of that sentence. Meters (talk) 01:21, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    POOR EDITING INSTRUCTIONS

Editing NOT user-friendly. Please update AM/FM Stations in Arizona, to ADD - KMOG 103.3 FM. This has been 'On The Air/in service' for a very long time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AZ CJ5 (talkcontribs) 01:13, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @AZ CJ5: The FM station's call sign is K277BX. The AM station's call sign is KMOG. Since K277BX has no article, it's not included in the list. Instead K277BX (103.3 FM) redirects to KMOG (the AM station). There is a mention of the FM station in that article. Orville1974 (talk) 02:07, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Difficulties adding transcluded section

    Helped
Hi, there are numerous transcluded sections in this article: 2020 United States presidential election. I've made a transclusion here 2020 Green Party presidential primaries for the Withdrawn candidates subsection (which already included transcluded code for said section). However, as can be seen here: [1], it's very messy. Templates show up in the wrong place, then there's more article info and another references section. I suspect it's an unclosed bracket issue, but I'm not sure. How do I add the Withdrawn Green Party candidates transclusion without messing everything up? Thanks. David O. Johnson (talk) 02:09, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @David O. Johnson: There was an issue with the close section tag in the 2020 Green Party presidential primaries withdrawn section (it opened with section withdrew, but the close tag had withdrawn) so the entire remaining lower portion of the Green Party article was transcluded which hid the rest of the 2020 United States presidential election article below the transcluded reference list. There were also a couple missing close brackets in the Green Party article. I think it's all fixed now. Let me know if I missed something. Orville1974 (talk) 04:35, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help! It looks good. David O. Johnson (talk) 04:43, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Owner Name

Owner Name- Arun Prabhakar is written in the main column where you search Rambagh Palace wiki. On the write side a column is there highlighting owner Arun , which is wrong So kindly change the owner Name to Rambagh Palace Hotel Pvt Ltd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rambagh Palace (talkcontribs) 06:33, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Rambagh Palace: I've left a message for you on your talk page regarding your username and a potential conflict of interest you may have with the Rambagh Palace article. Please:
    1. Please request a username change here: Wikipedia:Changing_username/Simple, then
    2. Disclose your conflict of interest on the article's talk page here: Talk:Rambagh Palace, then
    3. Request the change on the talk page (being sure to provide an independent, third-party source showing that ownership has changed hands) so a disinterested editor can evaluate your request. Thank you! Orville1974 (talk) 06:51, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Bernard Rhodes

There is a new editor, Real Punk Rockers, who is maliciously editing this page writing the subject has died when he is still alive and repeatedly removing all of the subjects early history and early career which are all properly referenced from respected sources. Can somebody help on this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freshcolour (talkcontribs) 07:54, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy link Bernard Rhodes (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch.--Shantavira|feed me
(edit conflict)I've put a warning on the talk page. As the date of death is contentious, it should be removed unless a reliable source says they died. The removal of content is a seperate issue, which is similarly poor. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:51, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've put another warning. The Real Punk Rockers is now in clear violation of 3RR (which they must be aware of, as they've deleted the first warning from their talk page). Maproom (talk) 21:08, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why my addition on the page "factorial" has been removed??

Check my factorial page addition by an mathematician not by a asshole administrator who have no idea on math!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saradindu95 (talkcontribs) 09:21, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Saradindu95 - Wikipedia is based on reliable sources from generally published media. In this case, it seems to be original research, which is what the editor in question reverted (and added into the WP:Edit Summary. You'll also note that the editor in question is a computer scientist, and member of the mathematics wikiproject, so likely knows quite a bit about mathematics. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:28, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Your edit to Arithmetic progression has also been reverted for similar reasons. There are lots of possible formulas, but Wikipedia publishes only the most helpful ones that are found in WP:Reliable sources. Dbfirs 11:19, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Saradindu95: And you want to watch your language. If you continue as a brand new account to be so hostile, without finding consensus, you will be blocked. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 13:38, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    translatewiki.net

Hello everyone, I noticed about something on CreateAccount page. Why only enwiki has "articles" word (between edits and recent contributors words. See?). But on all Wikipedias (I looked some of them, not all) it is "page(s)"; It should be change on all Wikipedias. (I think so this is the page on translatewiki.net). Thanks! ⇒ AramTalk 11:37, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it needs to be changed. Though I do not know how. If you choose English on another project it also uses "pages" [2]. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 11:53, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. Articles, not "pages" are what an encyclopaedia contains. Perhaps other languages don't have a similar word? Dbfirs 11:58, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What do you disagree with? We are all saying it should be articles, not pages. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 12:01, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    Sorry, I misread that. Dbfirs 18:44, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The text is taken from MediaWiki:Createacct-benefit-body2 which has been customized to "articles" at the English Wikipedia. The message is used by many types of wikis and some of them don't have pages called articles, e.g. Commons, Wikibooks and Wikisource. The default text "pages" ("page" if there is only one) is more universal. Any Wikimedia wiki can choose the text at their local MediaWiki:Createacct-benefit-body2 which can be edited by local administrators. They can also choose translations at subpages like MediaWiki:Createacct-benefit-body2/de for users with "de - Deutch" (German) selected as language at Special:Preferences, but local MediaWiki messages are usually only customized for the default language of a wiki. commons:MediaWiki:Createacct-benefit-body2 says "files". I don't think the software has a way to say the default English term should be "articles" for Wikipedia editions but "pages" for other types of wikis. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:08, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Thank you very much! Done! @Taketa: and thank you for your support! ⇒ AramTalk 14:06, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter:Thank you for the information. I will apply this on my home project. @ئارام بک: Thank you for pointing tis out. Unfortunately it isn;t easily fixed everywhere, but at least we have an answer and can have a go at our own local language versions. All the best, Taketa (talk) 14:21, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to delete a fair-use image?

Hi, I came across this fair-use image on the Bill Raisch page. However, I found a different, freely-licensed image of the subject at Wikimedia Commons. Now that there's no reason to use a fair-use image on this article, how do I nominate the image for deletion? (Wikimedia Commons has a handy tool; Wikipedia does not.) Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 12:52, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just nominated it for Speedy Deletion, criteria F8: "File available as an identical or higher-resolution copy on Wikimedia Commons".--SirEdimon (talk) 12:58, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@SirEdimon: Thank you, but you deleted the freely-licensed image. The one to be deleted is File:Bill Raisch photo.jpg. Yoninah (talk) 13:04, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm really confused what's going on. I didn't understand why you created and deleted a new page at Wikipedia. The right image is still on the article. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 13:06, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    Yoninah I just nominated File:Bill Raisch photo.jpg for deletion and nothing else.--SirEdimon (talk) 13:11, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The freely-licensed image is still available on Commons. I didn't touch it. Actually, I cannot delete anything as I'm not an admin.--SirEdimon (talk) 13:12, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Thanks for your help! Yoninah (talk) 13:20, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Publishing a translated page

    Helped
Hi everyone, I have translated from French to English a page about a Photographer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Lalunanelcielo/Antonio_Martinelli

I had largely written the French version myself.

I would like to move the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Lalunanelcielo/Antonio_Martinelli into the main English wikipedia domain (rather than under Use:Lalunanelcielo), however I cannot see the 'Move' option in my edit dashboard. It feels like my access to the functionality is limited.

Could you please help me on how to proceed?

Thank you very much in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lalunanelcielo (talkcontribs) 22:20, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Lalunanelcielo: I've moved it to the mainspace: Antonio Martinelli. What was the version number of the article you translated it from? (It still needs the translated from template on the talk page.) Orville1974 (talk) 22:59, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Orville1974:, thank you very much for moving it. The article I translated it from is https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Martinelli . I don't know where to find the version number, but it's the latest, current version of the article, as visible here: https://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Antonio_Martinelli&action=history - I did the translation yesterday and the original French article hasn't been updated by anyone since then. Does that answer your question? Please let me know if I need to do anything else. I am not familiar with talk pages so need a bit of handholding if you don't mind. Thank you in advance.

    The version would be https://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Antonio_Martinelli&oldid=159804289 (June 3rd 2019). Dbfirs 20:06, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have not done refs numbers 100 and 101 (is it a "book" ?) correctly on this device. Please fix them. Thanks 49.188.5.171 (talk) 23:50, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    I see these two sources:
    • 100 - Middleton, T. "Annals of Hyde and District". Cartwright & Rattray, 1899 - Cheshire (England). p. 153. Retrieved 14 June 2019. ...Harriet Gertrude Ashton, married Arthur G. Lupton, of Leeds. Elizabeth Marion Ashton, married Rt. Hon. James Bryce, P.C., M.P., D.C.L...Katherine Ashton, married Charles Lupton, of Leeds.
    • 101 - The Parliamentary Debates - House of Commons. Oxford University 1909. 1909. Retrieved 14 June 2019.
Is that what you intended them to be? Orville1974 (talk) 00:06, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but I think the 101 citation should have the publication year in the correct place and page number and also the long IBSM number - I cannot do this. Please help. Thanks 49.188.5.171 (talk) 00:11, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
All the publication confirms is that Bryce, Ashton, and Arnold Lupton (but not Charles Lupton) were MPs. Here's the page: Estimate of Principal Value. Were you expecting more to be there? It doesn't appear to support the article's contents at the place the citation's been inserted. Orville1974 (talk) 00:32, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The other citations in this section make it clear that Charles Lupton, Lord Mayor of Leeds - related to the other 3 men - was also very involved with politics. The new ref. that you have cleverly acquired - Estimate of Principal Value should be used some how - Am I wrong to think that? Please incorporate the ref I have just pasted (the estimates one) - I cannot do it on this device. Thanks so much again 49.188.5.171 (talk) 00:54, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My concern is that it's placement makes it appear as if it is a source for: "In 1888 he married Katharine Ashton and was thus the brother-in-law of both Thomas Ashton, 1st Baron Ashton of Hydeand James Bryce, 1st Viscount Bryce with both men sharing their interest in politics with Charles and his cousin Arnold Lupton MP", but it's not. It's just the register of a rather routine vote in Parliament that doesn't seem to meet any need as a reference for the article, and it's present inclusion as an inline citation for something completely unrelated is misleading.
If you want to include it without misleading the reader, you'd need to pull content from it to add to the article (in May of 1909 Lupton, Bryce and Ashton voted in Parliament supporting a resolution that "no reduction shall be made in the estimate of the principal value of any property under sub-section (5) of section seven of the Finance Act, 1894, on account of the estimate being made on the assumption that the whole of the property is to be placed on the market at one and the same time") WP:NOTEVERYTHING. I would like to help, but I'm not going to make that edit. Orville1974 (talk) 01:15, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    Understood. Thanks again 49.188.5.171 (talk) 01:19, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Page deletion

Hi! I was looking to publish a page for EverlyWell and it seems that they have been deleted in the past for COI. I am unaffiliated with the company, and unsure of how to appeal for recreation of the page. Thank you Literalkoala (talk) 05:44, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If it was deleted as a COI-created article, you are better off starting from scratch rather than trying to build from whatever existed in the past. Your First Article and verifiability will help guide you a lot. It looks like you've already started on it in your sandbox, so I recommend truly focusing on the reliability of your sources and showing that the company meets WP:NCORP and WP:ORGDEPTH requirements before hitting the submit button on the draft in your sandbox. Happy editing! Orville1974 (talk) 06:09, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

HELP ME!!!!!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdskewes (talkcontribs) 09:44, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mdskewes, and welcome to Wikipedia.
Take the time to read WP:GNG and WP:BAND. If you conclude "Yeah, I have those sources, no problem!", move on to WP:Your first article and WP:Autobiography. If not, write about something else. If you decide to try to create a draft, you need to learn Help:Referencing for beginners. Good luck! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:24, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Mdskewes Writing about yourself and your band is considered a conflict of interest. This ensures that the encyclopedia remains neutral, and the entries meet a degree of notability. Please read WP:COI. If there is sufficient media coverage, you will need to request the help of another editor at WP:REQUEST. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.) TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 13:38, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Mdskewes: Please don't take it personally. It appears that you do not understand what Wikipedia is. Read WP:NOT to see. We are an encyclopedia. If a subject is notable by our definition, then it should have an article. If it is not notable, then it should not have an article and any article that soemhow creeps in will be deleted. We delete about 200 articles every day, mostly for lack of notability. A subject that is does not have an article must not be added to a list in another article. "Some do-gooder" was doing exactly the right thing. Now, if you can convince us that you are notable by our definition, we can help you create an article as described above. You convince us of that by starting a draft article that cites several reliable sources that establish notability. Not all sources are reliable, and not all reliable sources count toward notability. Once you have cited sources that most editors would agree establish notability, we can immediately publish the article as a stub, or (much better) you can continue to improve your draft and ask for feedback from us until it's in good shape. -Arch dude (talk) 16:19, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Mdskewes: on the subject of Mandy Lion, please read WP:OTHERSTUFF. Mistakes about one article do not affect notability of another article. However, If you cite reliable soures, you may add assertions to an article. If you see unreferenced assertions in an article, you are free to remove them. If you see referenced assertions that are inaccurate, do not remove them, but you are free to add referenced content that contradicts them and that discusses the contradiction. If you feel that your changes might be contentious, you may make them anyway and wait for someone to revert before you start a discussion WP:BRD, or you may choose to start the discussion on the article's talk page first. -Arch dude (talk) 16:57, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ok,I THINK I UNDERSTAND A BIT MORE. THE LABEL I WAS SIGNED TO,WAS SUPPOSE TO PUT UP A PAGE ABOUT THE BAND FATAL ATTRACTION,BUT.......THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. IT SOUNDS LIKE I HAVE TO HAVE SOMEONE DO THE PAGE,OTHERWISE,I WILL BE BATTLING PEOPLE THINKING I'M PROMOTING MYSELF! I'M TRYING TO HAVE A PAGE FOR PEOPLE TO READ FACTS ABOUT THE BAND AND IT'S MEMBERS ! THERE ARE 2 DOCUMENTARIES ,BIOPICS AND A BOOK BEING DONE ABOUT MY MUSIC CAREER,SO. THANKS? I HOPE I CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE DEAL IS WITH WHAT YOU THINK IS IMPORTANT AND WHAT IS NOT! ANYONE FEEL FREE TO HELP ME,I PROMISE I'M NOT SOME GUY JUST TRYING TO GET ON HERE,IT'S BECAUSE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE KEEP ASKING ME,THANKS AGAIN. , Mdskewes (talk) 02:57, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Promoting yourself and your band is exactly what you are trying to do. Don't write the article yourself. Don't get your label to write the article. Don't get someone else to do the article for you. As someone with a conflict of interest you may request that an article be created (as previously described), or you can wait for someone with no conflict of interest to decide that your band is notable and write the article. Yes, we are doing our best to help, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to WP:Assume good faith when 2409:4064:39D:E13A:7037:4257:2CFD:3EEE (from various different IP addresses) deletes links from others' talk pages, deletes replies, and gives false edit summaries. Is this a clever troll, or just a young editor who doesn't know how Wikipedia works? Dbfirs 19:59, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Donald Trump article

Hi! 209.5.238.20. I'm not sure if you intended to remove your questions/concerns from here just now, but I'm responding anyway. Wikipedia is a platform anyone can edit. I encourage you to find third-party, reliable sources WP:RS and bring your concerns to the article's talk page here: Talk:Donald Trump. You can also get there by clicking on the talk tab at the top of the article. There you can discuss the addition/removal of material with fellow editors. Map of current arenas

I Was Trying to erase oracle arena and put Chase Center in but the Map Of Current Arenas is blocked can you help me fix it please. 68.103.78.155 (talk) 19:26, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unfamiliar with Haas Arena and Chase Center, but it appears from reading the articles that Chase Center is still under construction. If so, it's too early to add the arena to the template. Also, when it is done, will they no longer play at Haas Arena? If so, once the team moves, the "-present" annotation on that arena should be closed out as well. Removing rfc template

    Helped
Hello to you at the Wikipedia help desk. The request for comment I posted on the talk page of the New Albion elicited no responses. So I made certain changes to the article. As such, I do believe it is proper to remove the rfc template; however, the instructions are a little vague as to how this should be done. My inclination is to edit the talk page by deleting the template (which is encapsulated within brackets at the top of the page) and then note my actions with a comment. Is this correct? If not, what should I consider? Kind regards to all.Hu Nhu (talk) 19:55, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Hu Nhu: I think you waited an appropriate amount of time (I usually try to give it a week or so to allow other editors time to see it and respond). I went ahead and removed the RfC. In the future, the way you described above is exactly how you can remove RfC templates. Orville1974 (talk) 21:16, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Edit Information Box

    Hello,

Can someone PLEEEEAASE explain how I can update information in the information box on a wiki page where I'm the subject of the page but not the creator of the page? Thank you. What a pain in the ass!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kmacjdwiki (talkcontribs) 20:35, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kmacjdwiki: You should make an edit request on the article talk page. Please note that we can't just take your word for something, information must appear in a reliable source. You should also confirm your identity by following the instructions at WP:REALNAME. 331dot (talk) 20:40, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding [3], {{Infobox basketball biography}} has no law_school parameter. You added it to the documentation [4] but the actual template code has no such parameter so I reverted you. A new infobox parameter should be relevant to many articles and I don't see that here if law schools don't have elite basketball teams. The article text could mention it somewhere with a reliable source but not the infobox. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:56, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Kmacjdwiki: - I added your JD to the article, with a source, and made some other edits to make it more encyclopedic. did I made a re-direct mistake

    Helped
At How heavy are the dumbbells you lift? for the logs, I found that the name was changed. But a few minutes later the old title directs to the lower cased name. Then by WP:RM, the title's name is that or "How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?". I was going to add some thing else after. Tainted-wingsz (talk) 23:38, 14 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Tainted-wingsz: Are you trying to add more to the title, or just change it to title case (How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift?)? Orville1974 (talk) 02:46, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, when I did that. On a google search, by the name; Dumbbell Nan-Kilo Moteru, (the old title) it directed me to "How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?" then it had the re-direct page/ article at the top. To the current title; How heavy are the dumbbells you lift? Where the name is in lower case. But I did not know that some one else did a page move already? A few minutes after I did that. And for re-direct pages/ articles it should only happen once, not twice. Tainted-wingsz (talk) 03:03, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Tainted-wingsz: I've put in a technical move request since the destination article (the redirect page from title case to standard case) exists. It may take a day or two for the change to be implemented. Here is the request: WP:Requested moves/Technical requests. Once that's done, if the foreign language title still points to the standard case instead of the title case, we can fix the redirect. Orville1974 (talk) 03:42, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The italic isn't used in the named title, the book's publisher (or is it distributor?) Currently it doesn't use the italics at this url/ link; http://www.sevenseasentertainment.com/series/how-heavy-are-the-dumbbells-you-lift/. Then I was going to use this https://animeuknews.net/2019/06/funimation-to-simulcast-how-heavy-are-the-dumbbells-you-lift-fire-force-hensuki-and-the-ones-within-with-english-dubs/ as a ref. Or a different ref, detailing about the tv show was being licensed by. Or if some one got there first. (I have a night shift soon.) Tainted-wingsz (talk) 04:00, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Per the Wikipedia Manual of Style, regardless of how another site treats italics, since it's the official title of a series, it should be italicized here. Orville1974 (talk) 04:47, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The move has been done. That was fast. :) Orville1974 (talk) 05:08, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Text editor - caret navigation

Recently a change was made to the standard article text editor. If the cursor is on the last line of a paragraph, and there is a blank line below and then another paragraph: if I press the down key, instead of moving the cursor to the blank line, it moves to first line of the next paragraph. That is, it skips the blank line.

This is extremely annoying. Is there a way to turn it off? cagliost (talk) 08:40, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Cagliost: "Tag: 2017 wikitext editor" at Special:Contributions/Cagliost indicates you have enabled "New wikitext mode" or "Automatically enable all new beta features" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures. This is not the standard editor, but it doesn't happen to me whether it's enabled or not. Does it happen if you log out? What is your browser? I use Firefox. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:37, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I disabled "New wikitext mode" and that stopped it. Thanks. I'll give them some feedback. cagliost (talk) 09:45, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Cagliost: You didn't name your browser in the feedback. As mentioned, it doesn't happen to me in Firefox. When posting outside the English Wikipedia, you should also say where it happened, e.g. "Tested in Chrome 75.0.3770.90 at the English Wikipedia". PrimeHunter (talk) 09:57, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thanks. N.b. you have to refresh an article after updating settings for them to take effect. cagliost (talk) 10:01, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Steve Kerr

    Dear Wiki-Community,

    The article about Steve Kerr

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Kerr

should be changed due to the results of the NBA Finals.

Patrick McCaw, Frank Saul and Steve Kerr are now the only three players in NBA history who won four championships with two different teams in consecutive seasons.

Thanks for your changing the article.

King regards, Zeppal — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zeppal (talkcontribs) 11:28, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what the just completed finals has to do with it. Kerr's playing days are long past, and his team lost anyway. Regardless, whether this bit of trivia is worth including is debatable. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:34, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure who "our" is, but if you want whatever "our" represents to come up in a Wikipedia search, there must be a Wikipedia article about it. In order for that to happen, the subject needs to meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability and have significant coverage in independent reliable sources. As you would have a conflict of interest in writing about your own organization, you shouldn't be the one to write about it.
Please also understand that Wikipedia has no interest in enhancing or assisting search results, we are all here to work on this encyclopedia. 331dot (talk) 11:42, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    From "Draft" to "Live"

Hi there, lovely Wikipedia-help-desk-people! I did some work on a draft. Please, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft%3ABrandon_Truaxe&type=revision&diff=901939976&oldid=893646539 What is the next step for „going live“? Is there someone who can support me in the next step? It's all too overwhelming... --87.170.200.40 (talk) 14:00, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @87.170.200.40: I've just looked over your draft and don't recommend submitting it yet. Please look over WP:PEACOCK. The article needs quite a bit of editing to present it's subject from a neutral point of view WP:NPV. Phrases like "disrupted the rest of the beauty market", "high-performance products at wholesale prices", "combining cutting-edge science with modest price points", etc. read like a review, sales pitch, or advertisement. Orville1974 (talk) 14:28, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again! I've just done a major scrub of your draft article. Please look it over and make whatever changes are appropriate (keeping WP:NPV, WP:RS, and WP:PEACOCK in mind). Whenever you're ready, you can edit your draft in "source editing mode" and insert this text at the top (if it asks, select plain text, not wikimarkup): {{subst:submit}} Orville1974 (talk) 16:01, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your time and verdict Orville1974! I read your copyediting, thank you very much, even if that scrub was a quite an aggressiv acid peeling ;-), meaning you removed "important" information. Anyway in the process of „going live“, what would be the next step? --87.170.192.160 (talk) 17:05, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Whenever you're ready, edit your draft in "source editing mode" and insert this text at the top (if it asks, select plain text, not wikimarkup): {{subst:submit}}, then publish changes. That action will submit your draft for review. A reviewer will either accept it as is, or provide further feedback. Orville1974 (talk) 17:34, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I also forgot to mention, I left a request for more information regarding his earlier software business on the talk page of the article. Orville1974 (talk) 17:50, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Orville1974: Thanks again Orville! Yes, read your request, the name of that "software business" also intrigued me, but (so far) I could only found that he had $400,000 from his sold software company to invest in "Euoko": https://www.wmagazine.com/story/euoko . It was some kind of automobil-leasing-analyse-software. Working on it ;-) --87.170.193.122 (talk) 18:19, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    How to revert an archive?

In the Talk:2019 Venezuelan uprising, I have been reverting the archiving of a bot (User:Lowercase sigmabot III) because I want to keep a section alive for discussion. Nevertheless, I'm very probably doing this wrong, and many copies of the same sections are being created in the archive. How do I revert these actions correctly? How do I fix what I have done? and how do I stop it from archiving a section? @Shanesosmond92: I'm afraid the answer is probably no. Please see WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY and WP:COI for why this is not a good idea. Wikipedia is not a form of social media where persons create profiles etc. Facebook and the like exist for that. If you are truly notable by Wikipeidia's definition (see that page and also WP:NSPORTS for more info) an uninvolved editor will likely create a page for you in due course. A biography created in your userpage is likely to be deleted as misuse of Wiki as a webhost. Sorry to not be able to be more positive.
