Confusion over prodding

You seem to be reverting PRODs with the rationale that "there seems to be a source" - having a single source is not the bar for a PROD, it is the bar for a BLP PROD - for other subjects the question is, as with any other deletion discussion, about notability. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:15, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

PRODS are for non-controversial deletions. 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 19:16, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, like vaguely sourced, badly written, unencyclopedic, esoteric crap. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:20, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We'll see how others feel in the AfDs. 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 19:23, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Iskandar323, both the pace and the quality of your Prods and AFDs on Jewish subjects are concerning. As is your comment here referring to them as "unencyclopedic, esoteric crap". I'd suggest slowing down and doing a deeper dive into the sources.Jahaza (talk) 19:41, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What's concerning is unencyclopedic material masquerading as encyclopedic copy on Wikipedia when it is almost entirely unsourced, unverified and unverifiable, as well as material that has hung around for years without improvement and would certainly fail the pass criteria for AfC if created today through the Wizard. There's plenty too much of this around. Iskandar323 (talk) 19:47, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You will have to clarify and place something in the text and or caption to explain what the differences are and why it is useful. Are you saying this is a different version of the painting itself also created by Titian? If so this should be explained in the content. What are these differences and how did they come about? Or is it a 'photoshopped' image; if so it does not contribute much, if anything, to an article about the original painting. Eagleash (talk) 18:42, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's the same image. It's just a different scan/photograph, or perhaps altered with photoshopped: hence the different colouration. I don't know how to put that succinctly in a caption (also it's mainly speculation on my part, I only know for sure that the colouration is different). 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 01:39, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ficaia. In the future, could you please add attribution when copying from public domain sources: simply add the template {{PD-notice}} after your citation. I have done so for the above draft. Please do this in the future so that our readers will be aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself, and that it's okay to copy verbatim. Thanks, — Diannaa (talk) 16:41, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Template:DNB and others.

I was going to drop you a line about the difference between {{cite DNB}} and {{DNB}}, because of your edits the new article you created Samuel Sidley however I see that you created that article on 18 September 2022 and three days later you created Edward Gibson (painter)‎ on 21 September 2022‎ and by then you had worked it out yourself.

There are many of these types of template triplicates see User:PBS/Notes#List of PD Templates for a list of some of them. Given you area of interest shown by those two articles. You might find {{Bryan (3rd edition)}} and {{Bryan (1903 edition)}} of some use. If you have need of {{cite Bryan (3rd edition)}} let me know and I will create it.

Two other points:

  • Please see Where to place attribution in the Plagiarism guideline.
  • If you find a book that you would like to include in an article but it is not cited please place it in a "Further reading" or "External links" section below the section containing the bullet pointed list of full references. This makes it easier to keep track of what is used to support the text in the article and what is not.

Other than that I think the two articles I have had a look at are a useful contribution to Wikipedia. I am not as active as I one was but if I can help in you in any way please let me know on my talk page.

-- PBS (talk) 17:58, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes there is one other point I wanted to mention. There is a project group for the Wikisource DNB to Wikipedia articles Wikipedia:WikiProject Dictionary of National Biography and coupled to that is the Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/DNB Epitome if you create articles such as you did please update the list and double tick their entries in that list. Often the entry in the DNB Epitome (see the footnotes on the pages next to the subject's name) makes a good basis for the lead in the Wikipedia article, or for creating a stub of an article. -- PBS (talk) 18:05, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In the article William Wilkins (educator) you had an entry in the sources section:

There is a template {{cite ODNB}} for such entries:

*{{cite ODNB|last= Laughton |first=J. K. |last2=Lambert |first2=Andrew |date=2004 |title=Williams, Robert (1765–1827)  |id=29539}}
  • Laughton, J. K.; Lambert, Andrew (2004). "Williams, Robert (1765–1827)". Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (online ed.). Oxford University Press. doi:10.1093/ref:odnb/29539. (Subscription or UK public library membership required.)

There is a template {{Cite RNB1823}}

*{{Cite RNB1823 |wstitle=Williams, Robert |volume=1 |part=2 |pages=856-861}}

-- PBS (talk) 18:52, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The "Bryan (3rd edition)" template might be useful at Benjamin Richard Green, but without the "This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domain..." bit at the start: is there a way to do that? 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 14:09, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for creating this article. When we translate or borrow from other language wikis it’s a requirement to acknowledge the source. The best way to do this is to include it in your edit summary (e.g. “translated from fr.wiki”) and there’s also a translation template you can add to the talk page. If you can confirm where material for this article was sourced I’ll add the template to the talk page for you. Happy editing and please leave a message on my talk page if you need any help Mccapra (talk) 20:50, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't actually translate that article from the German article. I wrote it based on the English-language Benezit. I did include the German-language sources from the German wiki article as "further reading", so I guess I did copy that. 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 20:54, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into William Duthie (author). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Cavalleria rusticana

I am unhappy with your move from the opera to a disambguation page, leaving hundreds of links going wrong, - a disservice to our readers. I believe the opera is clearly the WP:Primary topic for this name, so suggest you revert the opera move, after having created the proper Cavalleria rusticana (disambiguation) page. - The next time you feel an article needs to be moved without leaving a redirect, please please please discuss that before just moving. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:45, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You're the only editor so maybe it doesn't matter so much, but it's more the principle of the thing ... and I didn't want to leave deleted edits in the history of the disambiguation page. Ways to improve Francis Washburn

Hello, Ficaia,

Thank you for creating Francis Washburn.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Thanks for the article, but it really needs some work - there are sources on the page, but they are not used to link to any facts in the article! The only reference is, confusingly for readers, to 'Heitman' - where the fact - and many more given in the article - could easily be sourced to a reference in one of the works you have listed under 'sources' using the 'Cite' tool. Facts should be linked to a citation...

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Alexandermcnabb}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, William of Littlington), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Warren Richard Colvin Wynne

Thanks for starting an article on Wynne. I've been slowly writing articles on some of the minor engagements in the Zulu War and hope, at some point, to work on articles on all the forts too. Don't know if you are interested in the era, but if you're working an anything similar in the future (or interested in looking at the forts) give me a nudge, I've got a few books to hand - Dumelow (talk) 18:55, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Dumelow: Thanks for taking the time to really flesh out the article :) BTW, one sentence you added to the article seems to cut of mid sentence: "On one occasion Wynne, found that marker posts, used by the garrison to determine rifle ranges in case of attack and to delineate the route of a new approach road, were being moved at night by the." Did you mean to write "enemy" at the end there? 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 03:02, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, missed this reply. Yep, had intended to write "Zulu" here, now fixed. Cheers - Dumelow (talk) 20:20, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
