Ponting

mmm... may miss the boxing day Test :( Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 00:18, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Haven't dropped into the WACA by any chance? WA v SA later this month will be good with Gayle playing. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 00:21, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
I went on Thursday for the 1st two sessions but missed most of Gayle's slogathon due to another commitment. I did see lots of Aussie runs scored though and the argy-bargy between Benn and Haddin. I'd left just before Gayle's hit onto the roof of the Lillee-Marsh stand. I went again yesterday afternoon for the Tea session which was very slow. Am planning to see Gayle's T20 match for WA. Ponting certainly wasn't 100% yesterday. Its a pity Aussie wasn't playing for a win. –Moondyne 05:27, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
Can't see Ponting playing on Boxing Day. Oh well, just replace him with George Bailey - another Launie boy. No Tas Twenty20 matches at the paddock here :( Only a list A match earlier in the season. Aaroncrick (talk) Review me! 05:34, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

screenwest

Firstly, thanks for tagging it up for improvement as part of a wikiproject- hopefully that gets some more editors working on it. and thanks for the link, ive bookmarked it.

in terms of importance - yes, it is very subjective.

Screenwest is the main source of film + television funding in western australia- i personally would rate that as more important than say an individual premier or a landmark (depends what landmark i suppose. def more important than say the belltower). Note that i only took it up to middle importance for australia, and high for wa. Ill ignore the australia wide context for now, but no way its the lowest possible category of importance for WA. you are correct that the screenwest article doesn't currently show notability as well as it could- i created the page like 2 days ago + i tagged it as a stub, i'll get around to working on it when i can (the west australian screen awards and film and television institute articles also need work + i've got a job application to do that im currently trying to avoid) --Brunk500 (talk) 13:20, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Just a follow up on that- i checked out the list of high importance wa articles as you suggested, and screenwest i think easily slots in there- in fact its of much higher importance than say the cygnet cinema. --Brunk500 (talk) 13:29, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

like you can see, i've only bumped up the importance one step from low to mid for WA, and haven touched importance to australia, as a compromise given oour difference of opinion. given that one of the premiers in the high category was only in the job for 3 months i think its a fair call :) --Brunk500 (talk) 14:11, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

not sure theres any conflict of interest issue.. i dont work for screenwest nor have i received funding from them. theres a subjectivity issue sure but its not the same thing. --Brunk500 (talk) 15:05, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

re: screenwest only existing for 10 years- before that it was called the West Australian Film Corporation- which i've now noted on the article. like i said, work in progress. I didnt take much offence at the COI thing, i think words over the net tend to come across as more pissy than intended --Brunk500 (talk) 15:43, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

nice addition of funding values etc to the screenwest page. --Brunk500 (talk) 09:40, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

A$

Thanks for the advice, I guess I've been a bit careless there. The fact that Australia uses the same symbole then the US for our Dollar is a bit of a pain, especially when dealing with subjects that connect to both countries, like Australian mines owned by US companies! Hard to figure out at times which Dollar they are talking about and painful to have to disambiguate it in an article! Anyway, I will try to improve and be more careful! Calistemon (talk) 10:23, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

I've gone through and fixed most of my mistakes, I do the rest bit by bit. If you got time, could you have a quick look at another Western Australian DYK nomination of mine, for Golden Grove Mine? It would, as always, be much appreciated. Its a somewhat interessting and political one:
that the sale of the Golden Grove Mine and other assets, worth US$1.354 billion, from OZ Minerals to China Minmetals was only approved by the Australian Government after the Prominent Hill Mine was excluded from the deal?

Thanks, Calistemon (talk) 06:19, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

File:Harry Boyle.jpg

Hello, Moondyne. I stumbled across File:Harry Boyle.jpg and noticed it has no source information. It is tagged as being in the public domain with a tag that claims the photographer died over 100 years ago, but there is no way to verify this claim. Do you have any more information about this photo? —Bkell (talk) 15:54, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

I have no idea :-(. However, I've found a clearer copy of the same image in 200 Season's of Australian Cricket (p. 66), so will scan and upload that as a new version, with citation, sometime in the next few days. Cheers. –Moondyne 14:32, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

(Just noticed message on Satu's tp) Haha, nice beach at Bunker Bay, I must say. Were the flies still as bad? They supposedly peak at Christmas and decrease from then on - and those head-nets look ridiculous! - better than eating flies, though! Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Moondyne! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 6 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 698 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the list:

Youngest

Nice job! I think it is much more readable than the plain-text version I made. What are you not so sure about?

Below are a couple thoughts I might suggest (but I'm not sure they'd work out until I tried)

 1. Put everything into the table, including the title and references, so that it is totally self-contained. I picture it included at the very bottom, just above the categories. (For example check the entry for M. Ward at the bottom of the page) Maybe nested tables?
 2. I would make the initial sort order by date of journey. That also gives a nice progression from solo to solo-nonstop.
 3. Put departure and return dates in the same column, two lines in each cell (lost ability to sort?).

I might have time to try a bit of this later. (SEC (talk) 13:30, 27 January 2010 (UTC))

I didn't get much time today, and what I tried didn't turn out well. Maybe I can try more later, but I'll recommend that you replace the current template:Youngest circumnavigator with what you have done and we can refine it from there. As is, your work will be a great improvement. (SEC (talk) 23:06, 27 January 2010 (UTC))

I just noticed others have made a number of modifications to it already; you might want to check those changes against your copy. All the more reason to deploy your version, too. (SEC (talk) 23:11, 27 January 2010 (UTC))

I corrected one date, otherwise it looks great. Nice job! As to your original concern of it not being official, my opinion is that doesn't change the fact that it is real. These may not be recognized by any official organization, but they are still sailing records. These are real journeys by real people that are newsworthy and noteworthy and thus valid Wikipedia entries. And I'd say let's move any more discussion to Template talk:Youngest circumnavigator, agreed? (SEC (talk) 03:25, 28 January 2010 (UTC))

Roger that!. –Moondyne 04:00, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Pop down to the WACA nets?

Unfortunately, SACA's contractors wouldn't let me within 40 metres this year, so no photos of Pak. Pretty ridiculous, given that they don't bother checking for weapons or any of that thing, and the guards are unarmed. And in any case, teh guard was pretty portly and even a guy who runs 100m in 15s like me could dodge them. I did get Voges before the security guy ordered me back YellowMonkey (bananabucket) 00:58, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Jeff Thompson

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Jeff Thompson. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jeff Thompson. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

Thanks. It seems you've reinstated it now. Cheers. –Moondyne 00:26, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

I don't understand. You asked for a rewrite and compromise. I did just that yet you simply delete in entirety.

I note that others also think the longer article should stay. Yet I reworded, shortened, and removed some comments. I am happy to remove praise comment as well, though I thought it was ok. Is that what you want?

Please act in good faith —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cowabunga438 (talkcontribs) 05:27, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

You also have breached the edit rule and a warning has been placed.

If you read the talk page you will see that there is some consensus for the longer article AND I have made the compromise you requested. However you seem to ignore both of these. --Cowabunga438 (talk) 05:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

At the time of my revert, there had been no compromise. –Moondyne 06:22, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
That is incorrect. All the compromises I made happened before your warning. See the history section. I made 6 large compromises - the final edit which was very similar to what is there now. There was large consensus from knowledgeable sailors. I suspect you didn't even read the edits I made. I took out large sections you disagreed with and asked you specifically if you wanted more taken out. Yet you warn me for edit warring and get a mate to bar. I plainly made major compromises, you simply reverted.
I am now out of here. Shall not participate again when people abuse power like this. Thoroughly disillusioned. At least I know from reading various articles here that you wouldn't know a well crafted and eloquent piece if it fell out of the sky landed on your face and wiggled. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cowabunga438 (talkcontribs) 07:24, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Moondyne, I really respect your efforts to keep this article balanced. First for fighting to include the criticism, and then fighting to keep it from being excessive. Thanks. (SEC (talk) 04:28, 14 May 2010 (UTC))

Thanks. –Moondyne 06:57, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Youngest circumnavigator

Please see the Youngest circumnavigator template. I suggested that "Since neither WSSRC nor Guinness is awarding records anymore, perhaps remove all mention of records and just let the numbers convey the story?" I'd appreciate your opinion on this. (SEC (talk) 12:25, 19 May 2010 (UTC))

removing cited content

I disagree. I think you could have added "at least," rather than rm sourced and verifiable content which is helpful to readers. All the best, Gwen Gale (talk) 14:40, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Edit summaries make it difficult to properly explain the gist. I think that such info is tabloid in style and inappropriate for an encylopaedia. Its an angle which reads like padding in a journo's piece and I fail to see how it would be helpful to readers. –Moondyne 14:47, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
The Australian search plane pilot told her mother the boat (probably) rolled. AS told the searchers she had righted the boat. The mast snapped. She could easily have lost both her food and her heat. Hence my thinking that it's helpful to readers, to bring up the cited presence of both food and heat. Gwen Gale (talk) 14:51, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
Meh. put it back if you like. –Moondyne 14:54, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:15, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Lady Elizabeth work

Hello- I saw that you deleted the flags I had installed for the Lady Elizabeth (1879) article. Although I am new at this and respect your changes, I was wondering if their is a rule stating "excess use of flags" and if not, why are the changes made. You changes to my article do not upset me in anyway but this is a learning process for me and would like a little more input on your changes if you would please. Thank you. Lukeduk1980 (talk) 06:42, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

WP:MOSFLAG. I have no problem with a flag showing the ensign but fail to see the importance of Port(s) of registry such that they have flags also. AFAIK the ship never sailed under the Norwegian or Isle of Man flags, so why give it such prominence? "Icons should not be added only because they look good, because aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder: one reader's harmless decoration may be another reader's distraction. Icons may be purely decorative in the technical sense that they convey no additional useful information and nothing happens when you click on them; but purely decorative icons should still have a useful purpose in providing navigational or layout cues outside of article prose. Avoid adding icons that provide neither additional useful information relevant to the article subject nor navigational or layout cues that aid the reader. Icons should serve an encyclopaedic purpose other than decoration." Clicking on some random ship articles shows widespread use of flagicons in port of registry, so I'm probably fighting a losing battle. Do as you wish, I'm not that bothered about it. –Moondyne 02:29, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

G'day Joe, not sure if I'm the only one using it, but I regularly use(d) the Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Articles list with the "related changes" tool to see what's being edited - saves having a huge watchlist. So could you please undelete it - I'll even manually update it (AWB) every now and then. I also use the AFL list, so please don't delete it either! Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 14:20, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Done. Watchlistbot which updated that page has been inactive for yonks so I assumed hardly anyone was would be using it. Page view stats seemed to mostly confirm that. But updating with AWB is a good idea. –Moondyne 00:42, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the VFL protection

Sometimes I think the people who spend their time at AIV or RPP have seen so much vandalism that they build up a tolerance much higher than the average editor who's sick of hitting rollback 2 or 3 times on the same article even over a few days. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 14:27, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. The editors who created the Codewit articles obviously also created this redirect. The title of the redirect page is found in one of the created articles, in the "Career and Activism" section, in the 2nd paragraph. Since the redirect leads to the article which is now up on Afd, is it required to additionally tag the redirect page for deletion as well ? Amsaim (talk) 23:42, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Moondyne, by removing a refimprove tag with the comment "unhelpful tagspam" I'm left unsure if you're suggesting all tags are spam and none of them are helpful, or if I was attempting to spam (?) the article and trying to be unhelpful in this particular instance. Could you help me out?Alistair Stevenson (talk) 23:52, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

I fail to see how it improves the article. And don't tell me it alerts users that more references are needed-they already know that. That tag on a relatively stable, non-controversial, low traffic article, without indication of what statements are causing concern, is unhelpful. I cannot see how you could be unsure about me thinking "all tags are spam and none of them are helpful". –Moondyne 03:52, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Alan Bond

Hi - can you explain, either here or (preferably) at the article talk page, the logic behind removing the Australian criminals template? Thanks, hamiltonstone (talk) 08:41, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Here is fine, and thanks for asking and opening the discussion. I think a template titled "Australian criminals" is fine as an indexing aid for categories and major topical articles etc, but to plonk it on an article about a living person (per WP:BLP) is a bit unfair, especially when the person has paid his dues and for all appearances has moved on. Ask yourself how you'd feel finding such a banner on a biographical article about yourself. Bond was plenty notable long before issues of criminality arose and the majority of the article correctly reflects that. Refer WP:DONOHARM and perhaps explain to me how the template improves the article. (I'm sounding like I'm a fan or defending him which I'm not, for the record) –Moondyne 13:08, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I agree that edits should not tar people as criminals for life - which is why I did this at Rodney Adler. But at some point, if one is going to have a template (such as "Australian criminals"), one should probably put it on all the pages to which its content is linked. Otherwise, one ends up with an arbitrary or contentious decision to be made about who should get it and who doesn't. Bond's criminal conviction probably rates as the most high-profile Australian white collar crime conviction of an individual in at least my lifetime, (though I recognise there area a few other contenders!) I understand the issues you raise, but i also don't see harm in the template that would not already caused by documenting the conviction in the text itself (which is the case) - and no-one would suggest that WP:BLP should preclude that. To the extent that the template helps readers to place Bond in a broader context of Australian crime, it does no harm, it benefits the encyclopedia. Would I like it if it were on my page? No, but I'm still inclined to think it is the better policy. Either that or dismantle the template altogether from all pages... hamiltonstone (talk) 22:26, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Moondyne AWB edits assessing importance

Hi Moondyne. I see your AWB account has done a ton of work assessing importance of articles. How did you do this quite so quickly? I don't mean technically, I mean in terms of weighing up the relative merits of how important each article is? --Dweller (talk) 15:40, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

The editing was the easy bit. The preceeding 2 weeks was spent prepping several offline lists as well as doing some low-hanging fruit with AWB and manually. I crossrefed with other article categories such as Cat:Test cricketers etc. and used WikiDatabaseScanner to check article sizes and keywords. And I visually scanned hundreds of articles also. I intend to rescan the full set against categories sometime in the next few days. –Moondyne 00:37, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Swan River Mechanics' Institute, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.daao.org.au/main/read/5448.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

The irony is that I read and cited Uren/ADB[6] and the OpenArtists article does have some close paraphrasing from there. Mine does not. –Moondyne 00:07, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Firstly, read Meta:The Wrong Version. Secondly, reverting and then going to 3O was just wrong. –Moondyne 15:57, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Heh. I'm not saying that you're wrong. I'm saying that I went for the most neutral text.
I was going on advice given in my unblock messages where it was suggested that the better way to have gone about the situation was to go to 3O and to ask for protection. The text that AussieLegend advocates is controversial in the dispute, therefore I removed it. That makes it more neutral. How does this detract from Wikipedia in the short term while the dispute is resolved (not that it will ever be resolved anyway)?
I assume that you agree with AussieLegend, and hence my question. Why are we allowing an inconsistency? -Danjel (talk) 16:02, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I explained myself in detail here 8., but apparently what I've said is so uncontroversial that noone is willing to comment, but what I've done about what I said is, apparently. WTF? -Danjel (talk) 16:16, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I read that. Yes it is uncontroversial and this is really WP:LAME. For your own sake I strongly suggest you un-watchlist the article. –Moondyne 23:51, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I see this as rewarding overly territorial overly antagonistic BS. He gets his preferred text (against any attempts to compromise), validation of his ownership of the article and an injunction against interference from someone willing to call him on it. But I see your point that this is a whirlpool, so fine. I'm out. -Danjel (talk) 03:54, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Mac Robertson GHS

That's not their logo, so I undid your change at 9. The logo that that edit was relying on belongs to Melbourne High School. Mac Robertson GHS uses two, one is Athena's (?) bust, and the other is a stylised M surrounding GHS. Take a look at their website 10.

I tried looking earlier for a clean version of their logo and couldn't find one. I have some documents from the school, so I might try to pull a fair use logo from one or another of them. -Danjel (talk) 15:21, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Tumut and Parkes High Schools Other schools short on Notability & Content

G'day Moondyne. If you find any more schools in your travels that need content and information added for notability reasons like Tumut High School and Parkes High School, could you please let me know? I'll try to get them up to scratch during the school holidays. I should be able to get this done for, at least, NSW and Vic schools because I'm familiar with most of them. I'm building a to-do list for this reason (and for other school related issues) here: User:Danjel/ToDoList Cheers. -Danjel (talk) 14:48, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, will do. I posted a note at WP:AWNB which is self-explanatory. –Moondyne 15:04, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to have a crack at those schools you've just given me. Killara PS was fairly easy because I know that that was one of the schools involved in the league tables hooplah. The others are going to be a bit more difficult, particularly the ones outside NSW and Vic. You're from WA... Know anyone in Geraldton who can help with Strathalbyn_Christian_College? :) -Danjel (talk) 16:12, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

No I don't unfortunately. Some of these might have to go. –Moondyne 23:19, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Any ideas on how to get the attention of a good faith editting IP?

See: 11 Same person coming back from an IP range.

I imagine that the IP has a genuine citation to add, but I can't find it from what he's said. Any ideas on how to get his/her/its attention so that we can get the URL?

Xavier

Howdy! I'm no longer into edit-warring, but I can see a potential one brewing at Xavier College, particularly with "danjel", with whom I have no experience, but I see that you have. Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:20, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Xavier College - Key People

I strongly doubt the notability of the two people in the key_people section on Xavier College. See my reply here: Talk:Xavier_College#Key-people_2. I think it should stay commented out until some significance is demonstrated.

Pdfpdf seems to put them below the head of the Junior School as well, which means that they're not notable against the standard we have adopted with other schools (that named executive are included). -danjel (talk to me) 08:53, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I see your comments there. As a sign of good faith, please don't revert myself or Pdf until we reach a consensus on this. –Moondyne 09:01, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Sure, but I have a problem with *adding* information before consensus, as you know. -danjel (talk to me) 09:04, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
They've been in the infobox for months, at least. –Moondyne 09:06, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
You and I both know of examples where vandalism has stuck around for ages before being found and edited out. The same is even more true of uncited or erroneous material.
There's no information, anywhere, on any of these individuals. At the very least they're not citable. If the Xavier website doesn't even mention them, then they're not significant, and not notable.
At best we're tolerating something that is inconsistent, unverifiable and unnecessary. At worst we're tolerating something that is plain unverifiably wrong. -danjel (talk to me) 10:49, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Vandalism is a different matter. Lets AGF for the moment and perhaps Pdf will enlighten us. Another day or 2 won't hurt. –Moondyne 12:32, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Not saying it's vandalism. I'm saying it's likely to be erroneous. Errors that seem legit stick around here a very long time, and it's not a good reason to believe in them.
OK on AGF. The way discussion is going over there I seriously doubt anything enlightening will present itself. -danjel (talk to me) 12:35, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Didn't see your post at Xavier until now

I had been trying bloody hard in the face of, again, someone who WP:OWNed the article, to it's detriment, to be civil and to move forward in the face of policy. I was and am unequivocably in the right this time, and I've even, just now, come up with a compromise with a more reasonable editor on the other side that seems acceptable. Perhaps you were trying to be a peacemaker or some such bs by acknowledging both sides, but your post is condescending and insulting and I expect to be treated better. Don't bother replying. Hi Moondyne. Australian school articles are some of the most difficult to keep track of. At WP:WPSCH the replacement for AlertBot is now up and running with the school project as one of the prototypes. Over the past eeks the WP:WPSCH pages have been re formatted and tidied up, especially some aspects being split off into sub pages because the main page was getting too long. Do please take a moment to check it out, and you may find that you can avoid some unnecessary duplication. I also think it would be a very good idea to place plenty of links to WP:WPSCH especialy, WP:WPSCH/AG which we've smartened up and made more readable. Do check out also the use of school infoboxes which has been standardised for quite a long time to make it easier for page creators and the regulars at the school project. Also, you might wish to consider placing the generic Australia project template on the talk pages of Australian schools.
My speciality is not Oz schools per se, but don't hesitate to contact me if you feel the available fields on the two Australian boxes do not address today's needs - these are fixes that can easily be made. There is going to be a major campaign to clean up school articles during 2011, if you are not already a member of the Schools project, do consider joining and seeing where you can help. More news later! Kind regards, and all the best for 2011. --Kudpung (talk) 06:19, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. User:Danjel and myself have started a cleanup on the Australian school articles which included moving any that weren't there already to infobox school. That had been proposed numerous times in the past but it seems that no-one had gotten around to doing it. That's now complete and the 2 now-unused AU infoboxes are currently at TfD. We also removed some superfluous infobox data and so most of the 1100 odd articles have had at least a light going over. In the course of doing that I haven't seen any additional fields needed, but think that an effort could be made to identify little used fields or fields of dubious encyclopaedic value, and perhaps look to removing these - WP:DISINFOBOX comes to mind. I'd be very cautious about adding any new fields! The major problem I see is that with the infobox covering so many issues and so easy to use its nearly a disincentive for an editor to add prose. I regret I must decline your offer to join as I'm spreading myself a bit thinly now and am unlikely to maintain more than a passing interest. Good luck! –Moondyne 06:52, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Moondyne,

Let me take you back 2 years, and test your memory. I've just added a proper infobox to W McEwan (for which you did a lot of clean-up/referencing in December 2008! There is some discrepancy between what is there, and what is referenced (to CA). The original article had a full date-of-death, (and place of death as Nice, and I think you added the reference to CA (which confirms the year, but has the location as Victoria). The old "infobox" decided that his first name was William. Have you any sources you looked at, or any ideas of how to tell what information is genuine or what came from an old, non-referenced source? He's one of the one-match-wonders, so hardly the most important, but may as well sort it out while I've noticed! Any ideas? —User:MDCollins (talk) 21:55, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Alas, no recollection whatsoever. I checked books I might have used and nothing there, so can only assume I made the name William up, or it has since been dropped from CA (which is improbable). I did however find a contemporary newspaper account of the match which I cited from the article. I also adjusted his date of death to c.1862. –Moondyne 03:43, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Intriguing

I would say that texas gulf (I have some nagging query in my memory about texas gulf sulfur) must be the only firm that I and my paternal cousin have both worked for/and or lived off the proceeds - yet a query via texasgult shows no art on wp - odd  :| SatuSuro 15:17, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

In 1972 Texasgulf had a JV agreement with HPPL and WPPL to establish the Iron Ore (Rhodes Ridge) Agreement with the WA Government. Page 16 of this Powerpoint doc shows a photo of Lang in front of a sign that says "Texasgulf Australia Rhodes Ridges Project". The same document later says "these areas were then confiscated by the West Australian government, and later given to a competing company". Boohoo. Photo at Jessica Watson's page

Moondyne, apparently you have poor taste in personal photos. That Ddf photo that someone dug up out of the trash can is not fine. ...but if you insist, I defer to your obviously finer taste. I was actually trying to find a better photo to do justice to this fine young lady, and you seem to think that a mug shot is the best that we can do. Well, I beg to differ, and you should too, if you have any standards at all.

Please see the discussion at Talk:Jessica_Watson#Photo_of_Jessica_Watson. You also seem to think that discussions can be ignored in favour of your own arbitrary reasons for reverting an edit. --Skol fir (talk) 08:47, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

It'd be nicer if was was smiling, but she's not. Too bad. Perhaps that will inspire someone to take a free photo which can then replace the one we have. In the meantime, my view is the current one helps a reader to see what she looks like which is better than none at all. The "discussion" showed no indication you'd prefer nothing rather the current. The only hint we have of your preference is [13] to which I respectfully disagree. This is a classic WP:BRD case and hopefully we can find a consensus at the discussion page. I meant you no bad will from my revert and if you took offence I apologise. –Moondyne 09:05, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
If you read the entire discussion, there was at least one other person (if not two) who had also expressed their opinions. The idea of not having a picture at all was not mine, therefore, I did not offer it in the discussion. See this quote: "I've also been caught by it when trying to convince people to release photos for us, and I have argued at times that I'd rather see no photo than a bad one, but it is something that is basic to how we manage the licenses. - Bilby (talk) 02:10, 26 January 2011 (UTC)" -- Bilby does not equal Skol fir. Obviously, I agreed with his idea and acted on it. My bad! --Skol fir (talk) 02:14, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
I did read what he wrote. He said "...and I have argued at times that I'd rather see no photo than a bad one." I didn't and still don't take that to mean he was expressing an opinion about this case specifically. –Moondyne 02:43, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
You are perfectly right. I extrapolated from his "arguing at other times" to this particular case and then assumed that if this article had no picture for months before this one, why not go back to no picture, while we look for something that better reflects Jessica? I think she would agree with not putting a "mug shot" on her page, although I suppose that the subject has no say in her own biography, due to POV conflicts. --Skol fir (talk) 02:53, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
If it really bothers you, remove it - I don't care that much. If a consensus appears we can put it back again. –Moondyne 04:58, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
