Template:Infobox London place Wanstead is a suburban area in the London Borough of Redbridge, north-east London. The main road going through Wanstead is the A12.

The name means "place by a lump or hillock" and is first recorded circa 1050.

Unlike many "Clone towns" independent retaliers thrive in Wanstead and only a few chain stores are present, such as The George, (which is a JD Wetherspoons), and Boots. Other pubs in the High Steet include Russells, Bar Room Bar and The Cuckfield.

Wanstead is home to a large comprehensive school, Wanstead High School. There are four primary schools in Wanstead; Our Lady of Lourdes, Wanstead Church School, Snaresbrook and St. Joseph's which is an all-girls private school.

The town has a largely suburban feel, containing open grasslands such as Wanstead Flats, and the woodland of Wanstead Park (part of Epping Forest). It is also home to Wanstead Golf club, which has hosted many of the major events in the Essex County calendar.
