From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Ncboy2010 (talk | contribs) at 21:59, 20 February 2014 (→‎Bisexual: remving unsourced/unverifiable entry). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

The following is a list of LGBT characters in television and radio organized by orientation. This list includes notable gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered fictional characters that appear in various non-animated television shows and radio shows.

Bisexual

Character Show Notes
Cassie Ainsworth[citation needed] Skins Cassie is depicted as being eccentric and suffering from several mental disorders — most notably, anorexia nervosa — and multiple issues, including low self-esteem, suicidal ideation, and drug addiction.[1]
Irene Adler Sherlock Identifies as a lesbian, however, she becomes attracted to the male main character.
Max Black 2 Broke Girls
Frankie Alan Lip Service
Athena Xena: Warrior Princess
Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell Prison Break "An open bisexual, he has no qualms about seeking sexual gratification from other inmates, often preying upon younger men."[2]
Nathaniel Baltimore Saul of the Mole Men
Sarah Barnes[3] Hollyoaks "I don't know if she'd suddenly turned, though. Maybe she was more bisexual than anything." - Loui Batley on her character's sexuality.[3]
Nancy Bartlett Roseanne
Tim Bayliss[4] Homicide: Life on the Street In the first episode concerning the matter he flatly stated he was "not gay" and did not formally declare himself to be bisexual until Season 7, but even then he did not want to be deemed "a crusader" on the matter. This way of treating his sexuality is believed to have made the network uncomfortable.[4]
Steven Beale EastEnders The build up to Steven's exit involved in a bisexual love triangle storyline between him, Stacey and Christian Clarke (John Partridge), who is the gay brother of Jane.[5][6]
Juliet Becker The Bill
Tobias Beecher[citation needed] Oz
Claire Bennet[7] Heroes Claire Bennet is a college student and former cheerleader, adopted by Noah Bennet and his wife, and is the biological (and illegitimate) daughter of Nathan Petrelli and Meredith Gordon and niece of Peter Petrelli and Flint Gordon. She is an evolved human with the ability to rapidly heal from any injury. After the defeat of Samuel, she revealed her secret on live television.
Gretchen Berg[8] Heroes Gretchen Berg, portrayed by Madeline Zima, is a college student of Arlington University who befriends Claire Bennet in "Orientation".
Beth Wonderfalls
Daniella 'Denny' Blood Bad Girls
Bo Lost Girl “....she’s a sexual creature and she falls in love with both Dyson and Lauren.” - Anna Silk on her character’s sexual orientation.[9]
Brendan Boulter[citation needed] Family Affairs
Charlie Buckton [10] Home and Away When Charlie first arrived in the Bay, Channel Seven described her as having a "bone to pick and the prowess to do it" in reference to her father's relationship with Morag Bellingham (Cornelia Frances), which Charlie disapproved of because her mother had only recently died.[11]

It isn't until Season 2, when a male third party is involved, that any intercourse is implied. Blaine Anderson Glee Upon Blaine's first appearance, Criss described his character as being a "very charismatic, put-together, composed guy." He stated that although Blaine is gay, he is not "overly queeny, and not too butch either," and that while his sexuality is a "huge part of who he is", it is not a major facet of how he wishes to be perceived. Due to similarities which stem from their shared sexuality, Blaine "sees a lot of himself in Kurt, in terms of experiences and the way they feel about the world around them. He feels the need to impart his knowledge, be a source of strength for him, and really help him through what he's going through."[14]

Lesbian

Character Show Show start Show end Notes
Della Alexander EastEnders 1985 present Della and her girlfriend Binnie Roberts were the first lesbian couple to be featured in EastEnders. Their inclusion was an attempt to portray positive examples of homosexual characters.[19] Their lesbian kiss accounted for some 45 percent of viewer complaints to the BBC regarding EastEnders in 1994; provoking more complaints than any other television programme that year (according to research published by the Broadcasting Standards Council in 1995).[20]
