Being Indian is...

Wow, that is a really powerful piece of work. It is listening to your well-intentioned white brother try to tell you about your native spirituality. Ok, so now I'm going to actually do this, sort of though. First off, I'm not saying this is true, I am merely repeating something that was told to me by an anthropology of religion teacher (Hank Wesselman). This could be wrong--he actually says to not go repeating this to many Natives because they often get upset, but I just wanted to hear what you have to say about it. According to him, the idea of the Great Spirit was not a part of any of the diverse Native American spiritual traditions until Christian Missionaries tried to convert Natives to monotheism (he also echoed one of the statements on your list by saying that monotheism really doesn't exist, it's just polytheism with a highly centralized figure ruling over the other lower dieties). Even if this is true, you should be free to follow whatever path fullfils you most, I just wanted your opinion on that idea. Oh, there's a really good punk band called MDC that is famous for their song "John Wayne Was a Nazi" [1]. One thing I was wondering about was the true meaning of Thanksgiving, because I can think of several things that could be. What was your intention in that one? I definitely share your sentiments regarding Columbus. I printed up some flyers to put up at my school a couple years back on Columbus day, but when I got to school I realized I misspelled a word and I never put them up. I should probably do that again sometime. This last year for Columbus Day I wrote an argumentative essay on why Columbus Day shouldn't be honored for my College Comp class (the essay had to be on something current in the mainstream news media, so I used articles on the protests in Denver to justify my writing about it). My teacher is using it as an example this semester for other students, which made me happy, since I get to not only feel good about my writing but know that my political ideas are getting spread around to others. I was also thinking of trying to organize an alternative Thanksgiving type of thing some year, complete with a tofurkey dinner (because you have to enjoy yourself) and some form of public protest, not sure what though. Any ideas? The Ungovernable Force 06:37, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Being Native American in the XXI Century is...

...challenging, from what I can see :) May I ask about the "living on borrowed time after your 44th birthday" line? Please don't tell me that's the life expectancy in the 21st century for a Native American?! --kingboyk 10:11, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's what I'd guess, based on the poverty of Native Americans. If I remember correctly they are the most economically disadvandaged racial/ethnic group in America (then again, to lump all Natives as one race or ethnic group probably isn't that correct, just like lumping all people from Latin America together isn't very smart, but that's the most convenient thing I can think of in my current sleep deprived state--3:16 am my time, I really need to stop staying up so late on wikipedia). I've commented. I am not sure I support the award itself but I can't think of any wikipedian more angelic than our dear Phaedriel! ++Lar: t/c 20:53, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My thoughts were in line with Lar's. Sharon is certainly deserving of the award, but I'm uneasy at the process. I'd prefer it if we could send her a big bunch of flowers instead :) Failing that - impractical for obvious reasons - let's just say you're really valued around here Phaedriel and you make this is a brighter, happier place! --kingboyk 21:53, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tone's RfA thanks

Dear Phaedriel — Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. It succeeded with a final tally of 46/2/3 so now I am an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the new tools, but please let me know if there's any anything I can help you with in the future. And please correct me, if you spot I make a mistake. Thank you again. --Tone 23:57, 26 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Hi, Phaedriel. I don't know if you happened to notice that my "delete" argument on Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Civility noticeboard was by way of being a reply to your "keep" (immediately above), or whether you'd like to respond to it? Best, Bishonen | talk 10:35, 28 May 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Hi Phaedriel, and thank you for your nomination and thoughtful comments in my request for adminship! With a final tally of (109/5/1), I have been entrusted with adminship. It's been several weeks since the conclusion of the process, so hopefully you've had a chance to see me in action. Please let me know what you think! Ya know...

Let this be the reminder..

Ya know, I wise person once told me:

"I know the old saying is if you love somebody, set them free, but it is in my nature to always fight to keep what I love."

Well, I came back today to say the same to you. Wikipedia needs people like you, its what makes this place a so much happier enviorment. Although it may not seem like it right now, everyone would be devestated if you decided to leave the project. Please reconsider your descision to leave altogether. If you decide to leave, I truly support your choice and will defend it to the best of my ability. There are a lot of nasty people on Wikipedia. The best thing we can do is to either try to encourage them to be nicer or ignore them altogther. I prefer the latter ;-) And this is coming from someone who was tormented since December, had his page vandalized, was wiki-stalked and ultimately left because he took things to harshly. I would hate for anything like that to happen to you..

Take care Sharon and keep in touch with me -- Moe ε 18:37, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I concur with what Moe said. It would be awful to lose a great contributor *and* person like you due to some misfit's antics. It's your decision, of course, and I can see it's not an easy one. Either way, please stay in contact; you know how to e-mail me. =] Take care, —Nightstallion (?) 10:09, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I want to echo what Moe and Nighstallion have said - you would be sorely missed here if you were to leave. I'm sorry that someone's comments have made you think about leaving - they have no right to do that. You are a fabulous editor and an even more fabulous person. -- Natalya 23:32, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

File:Atlanticpuffin4.jpg Hello Sharon. Thank you for your wiki-loving support and pre-encouragement at request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. Don't leave!

Can I bribe you back with a new Ford Mustang?

Don't leave Wikipedia Phaedriel just because someone was acting ass towards you. If I would have don it, I would have left when Orphan1 dicrimated me by my young age, or when anons would vandalize my userpage because I reverted their vandalism to the Miles "Tails" Prower page. Overall, what I am trying to say is that I have had to run in with the occasional jerk, but I didn't let it hamper my spirit, and it didn't drive me away from Wikipedia, because I have run in to many jerks, but I'm stillediting. YOu should too, don't let someone's jerkiness stop you from editing, You're a sweet girl and it would bad to see you go. Karrmann 00:46, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to put pressure on you, and of course you must make your own decisions, but know at least that your return would be very very much welcomed. AnnH 07:55, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice userpage!

Quick question: you use both "Indian" and "Native American" on your page - which do you prefer? Also, how do you feel about mascots like the Conard Chieftains? I've heard a lot of second-hand complaints from American Indians (my preferred usage) about such names, but I've never had a chance to ask an Indians personally. Thanks, Λυδαcιτγ(TheJabberwock) 03:40, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply! I definitely agree that the sentiment is important. So, I guess clarity is best. In fact, if we are going to group people in terms of skin color, "white", "black", "brown", "yellow" and "red" would be the most accurate. Still, I can't see those terms becoming politically correct anytime soon.
In fact, the same principle applies to the mascots. If we apply WP:AGF to real life, we have to assume that schools choose those names because they admire the Indian reputation, and want their teams to show the bravery that characterizes/characterized an Indian brave. So in fact the Indian mascots can be something to be proud of! Of course, there's also the ruthless and bloodthirsty sterotype to worry about.
Thanks for asking about an RfA, but, despite my userbox, I don't want one just yet. See you around, Λυδαcιτγ 23:52, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm soo happy you decided to come back! I'm also a lil' bit big headed knowing that I helped make that decision... I hope you're safe & well & that this stalker isn't bothering you any longer, (or that your bf made him an "offer" he couldn't refuse!).

It can be pretty scarely being a woman out there in this modern world. Women are like dazzling flowers that need every bit of care to blossom. Too often, & too sadly, women are left abandoned & scared. Pretty soon they get attacked by aphids or sat on by a really big labrador. What results is a big upheavel.

As I said it is pretty scarey, the big wide world & you need the right soil & gardner. The world is never as big when you're in it with someone else who loves you & cares for you. Seeing as how we all love you here at wikipedia, (probably debated, but still none more than me), don't feel like you're alone or abandoned in a big garden of aphids. I've had a bad time lately, with my mum in hospital & a huge virus, so I've been alone. But with a bit of help I got through it. So if you feel like you need a ladybug to take away the aphids or some fertilizer (only $14.95 per bag at 4 Square!!!) to keep you going, my talk page is only a few kilobytes thatta way...

Have an extremely nice day & please do drop by my talk. Love, Spawn Babe (Talk page is thissa way!!!). P.S. You'll have to tell me if that array of metaphors & proverbs up there made any sense... :)

I just checked here and it cheers me no end to see you have a userpage again. Welcome back! I cannot say it loud enough, its great to have you back with us Phaedriel (congrats to Spawn Man for helping out :) ), I too hope you have no more problems with the stalker and Daniel (he defiles my good name! :P) Brandt nonsense. OK Portal

Hi. I see you created the Oklahoma portal. It looks very nice. You probably don't recall, but we crossed paths before concerning a movie article. I mainly work on Scouting articles. I created and maintain the Scouting portal and Scouting project. The portal is a Featured Portal. I wish you well on your portal and think it could be a Featured Portal too. Consider submitting it. If you do, let me know so I can vote for it. Rlevse 13:24, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Wikiproject

Hello, I am Thetruthbelow. I was recommeded to ask you by Moe Epsilon to join a new Wikiproject I am starting called "The User Page Design Committee". We will assist users in creating a great user page, and will have many great features. As of now, the Founders are, if you choose to join, yourself, GeorgeMoney, Sango 123, Scepter, and Moe Epsilon. I will create the page, but then feel free to edit it. Thanks, Thetruthbelow 21:39, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some Small Help

Hi, I'm wondering if you can help with something - its really quite small. On my userpage I recently added 2 boxes (under the heading "Pages I've Started") showing things I've created. I wanted to know how to make both boxes have an equal width - thats it. Also, if you have any tips for me about sprucing up my userpage, please tell me. Project Newsletter

It seems to me like a good idea. It would give some sense of direction, besides keeping people reminded of the project. Maybe once a month or so? --Aaron Walden 19:16, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Beatles has had a newsletter for 2 issues, it's fun and it builds interest. Please feel free to crib from ours if its of any help (I particularly like putting the todolist into it inside show/hides)... Wikipedia:WikiProject_The_Beatles/Outreach/Newsletter will get you started. Others do most of the actual work of creation, but I deliver it every month using WP:AWB and I'd be happy to help out with getting that working right if you need it as well, just give a shout. We transclude it as delivered so it's a static copy, it's only a subpage while being edited. We have a starter template that you subst to get started writing a new issue. Hope that helps. (We cribbed a fair bit of the technique from WP:MILHIST but have deviated since then). ++Lar: t/c 19:44, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.

Hi again. Just thought I'd pop around your user talk to say hi since nobody likes coming to my talk page for some reason... :). Anyway, I just read that piece on what it's like being an Indian in the 21st Century or what ever the title is cause I can't remember it now.... I think it's a powerful piece, not all necessarily true all of it, but yes, mostly true. However I don't think it's very inclusive. I don't want to judge or critisize, but it really alienates people rather than bring them together. I mean, I felt sad that you thought I ("white person") was some of those things on there. I would have also felt kinda bad if my name was Smith or Jones. I mean, we don't choose those names, our parents give them to us. I'm just saying I felt somethings in there were could be concieved a bit divisive by someone who doesn't know how caring & cool you are. Even so, I was a bit hurt. Anyway, on the other hand, most of it's very true. But since my name isn't as pretty as an Indian name, could you give me an Indian name? It would make my year/month/day/hour/minute/second/milisecond (choose 1). Thanks, Spawn Man 04:42, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Or you could ignore my talk posts like everyone else & never talk to me again. That's cool with me.... Spawn Man 00:42, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My dear AnonEMouse, first of all, allow me to tell you you have one of the coolest usernames I have ever seen (you know, the kind that gives you the thought "why didn't "I" come up with it first?").

It may amuse you to see that you have been joined in that sentiment by "the sincerest form of flattery", under discussion here and here. :-) AnonEMouse (squeak) 12:48, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question?

Hi Phaedriel, just a quick question if I may. I was just wondering what you user name meant. If it's something personal, just tell me not to ask, and I'll be happy to go any, it's just curiosity.

Hope this doesn't come across nosy or pushy in anyway, it isn't meant to be. I just wondered.

Your friend, The Halo (talk) 00:19, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. I had a quick look to see if it meant something in a forgein language (the closest language I could think of was Elvish from the Lord of the Rings!), but it mostly just came up with your pages here LOL! My name, ah, now that has a bit of a story. As you may have seen on my userpage, I write (hopefully for a living one day). Anyway, I wrote a short story about a superhero once (you know how these sorts of things take your fancy, even when your 19 and shold know better ;) ), and the name of the character was The Halo. I think I picked the name for that character just 'cause it sounded cool, and no other superhero had it, but I liked it so much that I decded to use it here.

Phew! Pretty long explination, but there you go! Thanks for saying I'm an angel btw, you really are too kind....

P.S.- What do you think of my new signature?

Thank you very much for the warm welcome back, dear Sharon. *hugs back* Anyway, my vacation...first and foremost, it was good to get away from the encyclopedia for a week, even though I did miss it; I should probably make myself have a mandatory vacation once every few months, just to make sure I don't burn out. Anyway, not sure how serious you were about wanting to know about my vacation, but I'm going to tell you anyway, complete with wikilinks. :oP
I went down to Portland, Oregon (via Amtrak Cascades) to visit my girlfriend and attend her commencement ceremony. I spent a week down there and we did many things including visiting the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site, going on a yacht on the Columbia River, visiting the Tillamook Cheese Factory, camping near Garibaldi, Oregon, and playing many games of Apples to Apples, Mental Floss, and spades (in which we always defeated the opposing team). All in all it was a good trip, but I'm happy to be back in Seattle and back on Wikipedia. :o) </overlinking>
Anyway, thanks again for your reply, and always feel free to send me a message (either via my talk page or email) if you ever need support, advice, reassurance, a good conversation, a hug, a Coke, or anything else I've forgotten to list here. :o)

Phaedriel declined not long ago if I recall because she hasn't been here long enough... Just a thought... Spawn Man 04:35, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree with the idea of her being nommed for admin because (IMO) there should be more admins like her. However, that's not something I'd do myself (I think too many questions would be asked if I were to nom someone). But I agree with Lar's comments..and I'm editing my own comments way too much :P — Nathan (talk) 05:25, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is a very long list of people who have wanted to nom Phaedriel for admin, if you search in her talk page archives you'll find all of them... It is my view that adminship changes one's WP persona a bit, I would not be in a rush to wish the mop on our dear Phaedriel... SushiGeek, if I may suggest, going forward you may want to sound the candidate out first before potentially putting the candidate "on the spot" as it were. ++Lar: t/c 04:55, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sure, the mop is a key part of adminship, but in my experience, people look up to administrators. So it's also about setting a good example and helping guide this site's future; two things that Phaedriel also does really well. — Deckiller 05:17, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • But you don't need the mop for those things, you don't need it to be kind, or to be respected, or to speak wisely about how things ought to go. I may not have been very clear... adminship often changes people, at least a little, especially if they've not been admins elsewhere, and not necessarily for the better. Further, it changes what others expect of people. Admins get asked to do things they may not wish to do, unfun things, tedious things... It also cuts into what they have time to edit, see m:namespace shift for thoughts on how your editing goes down. I don't think we should try to chivvy Phaedriel into being an admin if she doesn't want it (which she may or may not, but I suspect she, at least currently, does not). ++Lar: t/c 05:26, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • From my experience, becoming an admin makes you become paranoid about trying to fix all of WP's problems and you then stop writing any articles. I haven't written or expanded anything in the last month. Blnguyen | rant-line 05:23, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I echo Blnguyen's sentiments. Do think through whether you want to be a sysop or accept someone's nomination of you. It might change your personality and outlook towards Wikipedia in unexpected, non-positive ways. Kimchi.sg 14:38, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can we all co-nominate? I already thought she was one oO Will (message me!) 18:50, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When I saw this, I said: what are they, crazy? She already is one. Then I checked WP:LA and to my surprise, you aren't. I can't imagine a non-admin who has shown the community that he/she can be trusted with the mop more than you. Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Phaedriel is now on my watchlist, so I hope I can be one of the first 10 supporters, but if I am away from wikipedia for a few hours when it becomes active, I will probably not be in the first 100. --rogerd 21:34, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was also under the impression that you are already an admin. When you are nominated, I wouldn't be surprised if you set a record for highest number of support votes. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:25, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Overwhelmed!

My dear friends Sushi, Dakota, Karrman, Lar, Bln, Tyler, Spawn babe, Nathan and Kimchi - thanks to all of you for even thinking me worthy of the buttons. To be completely honest, I've been asked about the issue many times in the last days only, and while deep down I hold no fears of the mop changing my personality, I am in two minds; a part of me feels I'm ready, while the other suggests me to wait a little longer. If you don't mind, I would like to give it a deeper thought for a few days, and in the meantime do many things I've been planning for some time (creating an Indigenous Resources Portal and, if possible, raising it to Featured standards; making the first issue of a Newsletter for Wikiproject Indigenous Peoples of North America, and creating a number of articles I've been drafting offline). I insist that I'm overwhelmed by your kindness, everybody - those of you who know me are aware that I feel uncomfortable when publicly given any sort of recognition for my modest work. But please, let's be patient - I'll let you all know my decision in a week or so. Deal, my friends? :) Big hugs to all of you! Phædriel tell me - 15:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Sorry about this, but due to an edit I made to the graphic (and also to the template), the image doesn't seem to be showing up correctly in your table, and the only thing I can think to correct it would be to add in a 99px image size tag. --Aaron Walden 22:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page

Hi, I was talking to Banes (talk · contribs) about stealing his user page, but he recommended that I speak with you instead... here I am, 2 months (and 4XXX edits) after registration, and I still have a very boring user page... I was just wondering if you could give me some hints about formatting them pretty frames everyone has, or if you wanted to, go ahead and make it pretty yourself... I'm not looking for anything really fancy, I haven't done much yet... thank you in advance... - Adolphus79 06:29, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

having seen the edits to this page after mine, it appears I caught you at a bad time... please feel free to leave me a note whenever you have a little extra time to look at a noob's user page... - Adolphus79 10:07, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Hi, my dear Bhadani! [2]

Hello Sharon, a ton of thanks for the chocolates - I know you responded late as you were searching the best stuff for me. Thanks. You have told so many things about me - am I worthy of such praises? We all are here with a single mission - to build and continue to build and to keep the Project up-dated. BTW, the chocolates were sweet, but your words are sweeter: yes, a grain of kindness is all it takes to turn thorns into flowers! Great words indeed. And, you are looking really "academic" in your latest picture. Congrats! --Bhadani 15:12, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit count

Hi Phaedriel, someone hacked Kate's Tool, and left statements of devotion on your edit count. It reads: Phaedriel Phaedriel is SO hot! Phaedriel is hot! Phaedriel on wheels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Phaedriel, I love you -while loading, and below your username after printing your edit count statistics. Doesn't show up every time though. Just thought you'd like to know. Best, DVD+ R/W 22:03, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I have the same for mine (Dicklicker, and so on). I think it just shows all the accounts with the word in them, so it's not a hack. — Deckiller 22:19, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Deckiller is just a last name I came up with for any one of my main fictional protagonists. It just sort of came out randomly. Nothing to really do with ten kills or deck burners :), although I could make it my magic: the gathering deck name. After all, my MTG deck usualy kills other MTG decks, all in the name of good fun and sport of course :). The ironic thing is that all my Deckiller characters are usually very calm ^_^ — Deckiller 22:31, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, dungeons and dragons is great! :) Magic: The Gathering is my favorite, but I haven't played it in a few months :(. I'm also into console RPGs, like the Final Fantasy series, Xenosaga, Xenogears, and many others. — Deckiller 22:36, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Umm.. hey Phaedriel. I'm really at a loss for words. About today's star, well.. I dont feel that I'm very deserving right now. I haven't been the most cheerful, loyal or bright person as of late towards anybody, although I have been pretty deep. I haven't been feeling good and have been taking it out towards the wrong people. Unfortunantly, I feel I can't accept your gift to me, I'm sorry. — The King of Kings 00:13 June 25 '06

I just happened to see your picture on your userpage and felt the need to point that out. Judging from what you've written on your page, you seem like a sweetheart as well. Thanks for the quick reply but I've found the problem (and my ordinary spelling) I was running on the secure servers as ( at this time of night ) my ISP is usually blocked due to anon vandals. Adminship

I'm painfully aware of the need for more wikilove among editors and I believe in the Sanskrit adage, "Yatha Raja, Tatha praja" meaning "As the king, so the people." OK, admins are more janitors than kings but the drift is that they are the ones people look up to on WP. It is essential that people look up to the right model of behavior and I believe from the limited observation I had of you that you fit the bill to a T. Don't look at adminship as either a recognition or a burden - look at it as something that enables you to reach people more effectively. I ran into your userpage a fortnight back, had a look at your contribs and was wondering if I should offer to nominate you as I am on the lookout for nominating more model wikipedians after my successful nominations of User:Redvers and User:Ganeshk. I see that I have beaten fair and square by so many editors in the last 5 days. Not to sway you, but I feel that you shd go for adminship. Cheers, --Gurubrahma 18:33, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Phaedriel, your message was straight from the heart. We are already friends, aren't we? I understand and appreciate that you would not be in a position to accept a nom for RfA right away. Please do what you deem to be the best for you. As far as Indian culture goes, Redvers definitely has better appreciation of my culture's sensibilities than I seem to have. --Gurubrahma 05:35, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, you amaze me with your kindness

Phaedriel, you are truly what my people the Jews call a mensch. You have once again made another editor extremly happy to be here, and I can't tell you how much your kind words ment to me. Even though you can not except my nomination now, I still want you to know that I consider you as one of the greatest people around. Whatevery you are going through right now, I hope with all of my heart that it works out for the best. I know much of the hardships of life, and I wish you and all that are involved the best of luck, health and fortune. As for the comments I made in the rfa, all of them have been proven again by your most recent message to me. I am proud to call you my friend, and I am adding you under my friends list on my user page. Phaedriel, I want you to now that your kind refusal of the rfa has instilled in me the most awestruck emotion. I feel that way because I know that you could become an admin in a second, yet you hace declined because you feel that your personal life may affect your work, once again putting the good of wikipedia before your status on wikipedia. Thank you my friend for all that you have done and continue to do. Thetrutbelow 01:25, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much

Dear Sharon-
Thank you so much for the honor of your "Today's Star" award. I look at the others that you have named, and I feel humbled to be listed with them. Your kindness and wisdom is an inspiration to me and many others. Thanks again for all you do on this project, and thanks for what you do in real life. I know that is one of the toughest jobs to do, and the fact that you come to wikipedia with such good humor and kindness speaks highly of your character. I see that your RfA is active, and that four of us have put the cart before the horse by showing our support before you have accepted the nom. I hope that you will accept, because if anyone should be an admin, it should be you.
Your friend,
Roger --rogerd 04:53, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I now see from your other messages that you have decided not to accept the RfA for now, and I can certainly understand not wanting to do this right now. I hope you get things worked out. You will be in my prayers. If you would like me to, I will delete your unaccepted RfA, so the same name can be used when you do eventually decide to go for it. (I think that would be allowable). --rogerd 05:31, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why aren't you an admin?

See title, I'm confused. I'd be happy to nom you. ;)--Andeh 13:14, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Sorry for butting in). Phaedriel was very recently nominated and declined (this time) for personal reasons. I'd be delighted to support her for adminship and it's nice to see that many others feel the same. However, please remember folks: adminship is not that big a deal, and Sharon doesn't need an extra permissions bit to get love and respect around here. I'm sure she'll let us know when she's ready! Hopefully that time will be soon, but until then everyone please chill out :) --kingboyk 13:19, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Andeh removed this thread as I was replying (I got an edit conflict); I've restored it to fend off other questions on the same topic. --kingboyk 13:21, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Kingboyk, in the future I really should read more on the previous discussions on this talk page (or is that being nosey?). Maybe we should start a list of users who want to nom Phaedriel for adminship? ;D Anyway, it's nice that Phaedriel notices my comments on RfA, I'm not out to get nominee's on RfA (which it may look like) I actually believe we need more admins, just the right type! Just encase you were bothered, I asked you why you weren't admin because I see a lot of your messages and then saw a report you made in WP:AIV made me think... she's not admin!? in shock!--Andeh 16:36, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese date.

The anon is basically right: the native Japanese calendar is dated by the ruling emperor, and formally we don't know who will be a ruler in, say, 2001, therefore the Japanese (name of the) date is formally unknown. I posted the question how this is handled in the corresponding artcles (Talk:Heisei & some others). `'mikka (t) 15:18, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Phaedriel, and thanks for your support in my recent RfA. I'm pleased to announce that it passed with a final tally of (96/0/0). Kinneyboy's RFA

I'm not sure if there's a precedent for that, you'll have to ask the crats or admins or whoever does the clerical side of failed RFAs. I only closed it because AFAIK, all withdrawn RFAs must be closed. I suppose it could be possible to resue it, but I don't really know. Cheers. NSLE 13:02, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With no votes cast, there is no reason the original page can't be used. Just blank it and start anew. For that matter, the current edits can be deleted without a problem. NoSeptember 13:27, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
For future reference, until accepted, transcluded and voted on, the RfA is not legit, doesn't get listed as an "unsuccessful RfA" and can be used again. Note this one for example (in the history you can find votes cast, since removed). I mention this because both Kinneyboy's and your own RfA are re-usable as long as you remove the votes and re-date it etc. NoSeptember 13:48, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Dear Phaedriel (I am allowed to address you somewhat close to the same sweet way you address everybody else, right?), I must share with you that your support in my recent RfA has meant the most to me as an RfA candidate, along with that of anybody else who didn't know me that well on-wiki but nevertheless took the time to review my contributions and strengths and weaknesses as a candidate. The fact that you were willing to do this has made your support all the more valuable in my mind.

I'm pleased to announce that the RfA has passed with a final consensus of 67 supporting, 0 opposed and 0 neutral. Please let me know at my talk page any time if I can help you with any admin-related tasks (although to be fair, I'm quite sure I'll be finding your name on RfA soon enough, if you're willing), or if you have any comments on how I'm doing as an admin.
