These are incomplete lists of Japanese supercentenarians (people from Japan who have attained the age of at least 110 years), according to the Gerontology Research Group. There have been over 300 verified supercentenarians from Japan, including limbo cases. The oldest person ever from Japan was Misao Okawa, who died at the age of 117 years 27 days on 1 April 2015.[1] As of 11 July 2024, there are 23 verified living supercentenarians, 14 pending, and 12 unverified in Japan, the oldest of whom is an anonymous woman, born 15 March 1900, aged 124 years, 118 days.

People

Tase Matsunaga

Tase Matsunaga (松永 タセ, Matsunaga Tase, 11 May 1884 – 18 November 1998) was a Japanese supercentenarian. Matsunaga was born in Kiyosato in the Niigata prefecture though soon moved to Tokyo.[75] She was originally a farmer. She moved from Tokyo, where she lived with her daughter, to Mutsumien in 1983. She was still gardening when she was 112, but she was mostly bedridden after that. On 31 July 1998, she became the oldest recognized living person in Japan.[75] Later that same year she died, aged 114 years 191 days, of heart failure. Following her death, Yasu Akino became the oldest person in Japan.

Ura Koyama

Ura Koyama (小山 ウラ Koyama Ura, 30 August 1890 – 5 April 2005) of Iizuka became the oldest person in Japan upon the death of Mitoyo Kawate in November 2003. On 5 April 2005, she died of pneumonia at a hospital in Iizuka, as the 4th oldest person in the world, aged 114 years 218 days.[76]

She was the 5th oldest living person in the world following 14 November 2007 death of fellow 113-year-old Bertha Fry.[1] Before her death, Toyonaga was living in the town of Tano in the Kōchi Prefecture on the island of Shikoku.[78]
