Lake Amadeus edit

Hi Gab4gab, your edit of Lake Amadeus regarding a dead link may be in error. When I clicked on the link "Largest Warerbodies" it worked fine. I am using Internet Explorer as my browser, is it possible you are using something else which does not bring up the link? Summerdrought (talk) 00:16, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Early Worm Gets the Bird, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jack Miller. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

regarding Brian Kemp and Athens Academy: the BK page claims that he graduated from Athens Academy (1983). This needs to be removed. He DID NOT graduate from AA (I have a 1983 yearbook to prove--small school, only 33 members of the graduating class). I would appreciate that the BK page be corrected. As for the Athens Academy page, listing BK among the notable or distinguished alumni implies that he has an AA diploma--he does not70.186.194.28 (talk) 12:03, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Gab4gab. I reversed one of your red-link removals (at SWIFT) recently. You've accepted the reversal or haven't noticed it. I looked today at another red link you'd removed at Grand Street Settlement. The Google result for Rose Gruening, whom you de-red-linked there, seems pretty interesting from my quick glimpse at the Google result. Not a big deal. But red links, judiciously used, seem like one of the ‘good recruiting tools’ of the encyclopedia; and not too harmful. Maybe related (it’s what your effort brings to my mind): I went on a bit of an 'anti-naked-URL' campaign in the last year -- out and back with other editors thoughtfully calling me back. You can check it out at the now pretty moot User:Swliv/Minupg and some associated pages if you’d like. Nothing much lost; good learning experience both ways; quite different from your 'unsourced' effort in many ways; but also maybe a word to the wise for you; your choice. Cheers! River Campus Libraries

Hi;

Thank you for reviewing my draft article on the University of Rochester library system. I would like to explain a bit about the what and why of my draft. I have no interest in the University of Rochester and have never been to Rochester itself, having come no closer than driving pSure. Should we create article about Tyler Roemer? There are also several others notables from Fernley such as Ivan Taslimson, Donald Tibbals, etc. Thanks! BlackYeti (talk) 16:42, 13 April 2018 (UTC)ast on I-90. The reason I began the article was because I noticed two separate, small articles about UR libraries, Carlson Library and Rush Rhees Library, both of which are tagged as having insufficient or no references. I decided to try and create one article from the two.[reply]

I hope you will agree that my draft, while it may still require further references, is clearly superior to the two existing articles. This is not an attempt to lobby you into approving my draft, rather a request for advice.

Since yesterday, I have made some small changes to the draft, including adding two more good (I think) independent cites. I don't know how much more improvement it needs, or how much more time I can devote to that improvement. I'm semi-retired from my job as a nurse and consider myself a writer (just two self-published fiction books so far), but I have done virtually no writing while working on this article.

Should I continue? Could what I have done so far, just be merged into the University of Rochester article? Any advice?

Cheers. Dan D. Ric (talk) 14:11, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dan D. Ric: I did look at the other articles and yes your draft would improve things. Frankly there are plenty of existing articles that don't meet notability standards. Many of those can't be fixed due to a lack of independent sources. IMO merging to the university article would avoid controversy if there is room. Added details sourced solely from the university won't create a notability problem there. Merging the existing articles to a new article outside of the 'Articles for creation' process would still run through new page patrol which applies the same standards. Good luck with all your writing. Gab4gab (talk) 15:36, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced stubs

Hallo, when adding a reference to an {{Unreferenced stub}}, please don't leave it as {{stub}} if there's already a specific stub tag;, as in this edit. That puts it into the Category:Stubs so that stub-sorters look at it and have to remove the tag. Thanks. PamD 08:35, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

403 Forbidden references

While checking that references support content I sometimes get a '403 Forbidden' result. Which prevents me from verifying. For example in the Shisa article references 1,2, 5 and 7 are 403s for me. I don't know what if anything I should do to deal with this. The links are dead to me but I doubt I should tag them as dead. Suggestions? Gab4gab (talk) 13:15, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Gab4gab: One solution that some editors use is to check the links with the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, which archives copies of web pages at various dates. For example, based on the accessdate in 2010 for the first source at Shisa, this archived version would have been what the editor saw at the time. Note, you don't necessarily need to explicitly change the sources to the archived versions, but there is a bot that is performing that task en masse, so don't be surprised if you find some sources that are already using this tool! --MarkTraceur (talk) 14:07, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review needs your help

Hi Gab4gab,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Gab4gab. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as mark pages as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:25, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Anything for a Quiet Life

Hi, I think that the situation concerning the notability of this book (Anything for a Quiet Life (short stories)) is plain. Michael Gilbert is a well-known, notable British novelist. By definition, therefore, any published work of his is notable enough to warrant an independent article. Most collections of short stories are not as well known as an author's novels, but that does not make them unworthy of attention. Are we to exclude *all* collections by *all* mystery writers? Hayford Peirce (talk) 17:24, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Hayford Peirce:What we are to do is follow the wikipedia notability guideline for books. There I see criteria 5 which allows any books written by authors who are of exceptional historical significance to be considered notable. I agree that Gilbert is a notable author. I've seen no indication he is sufficiently historically significant to satisfy criteria 5. Which leads me to suspect the books in question is not notable in the wikipedia sense of the term. In my searches I've found nothing helpful to satisfying the other 4 criteria. Referencing additional sources that satisfy at least one of the criteria would certainly reduce the chances the article will be deleted. Gab4gab (talk) 21:25, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
On the other hand, the notability article goes on to say: "Failure to satisfy the criteria outlined in this guideline (or any other notability guideline) is not a criterion for speedy deletion. The criteria provided by this guideline are rough criteria. They are not exhaustive. Accordingly, a book may be notable, and merit an article, for reasons not particularized in this or any other notability guideline." Given that this book is part of the corpus of a notable writer, it should remain as a separate article. Hayford Peirce (talk) 16:57, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hayford Peirce: It seems to me that your suggested exception justification is in conflict with criteria #5. Of course the guidelines are just guidelines. Articles either meeting or failing to meet the notability criteria can still be exceptions. Gab4gab (talk) 17:36, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I just put in a review of the book by Kirkus Reviews -- that ought to be enough, I would think. Hayford Peirce (talk) 22:33, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Marco Antonio Solis 40 Anos

If you are looking for a chart list the album did not chart. allmusic amazon and ITunes give it a little nobility to show that the album is available. If nobility in your terms means the charting not all of his albums chart. still they should be allowed to stay. This wasn't a problem until I found out some guy killed the article and put a ridiculous reason for doing so. --47.202.17.249 (talk) 03:41, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@47.202.17.249: The sources for the article are adequate to verify that it exists. Wikipedia has standards and guidelines which we try to follow as editors rather than our personal views and preferences. I suggest you look at how the article measures up to wikiSure. Should we create article about Tyler Roemer? There are also several others notables from Fernley such as Ivan Taslimson, Donald Tibbals, etc. Thanks! BlackYeti (talk) 16:42, 13 April 2018 (UTC)pedia guidelines instead of assessing whether it meets your personal standard for notability. In the case of this article I have not yet found reliable sources that support its notability. Notability is a requirement to have a separate article for an album or any other topic. If nothing new is found I am inclined to nominate it for deletion. Gab4gab (talk) 15:55, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Good point about that reference, apparently the target page doesn't exist anymore and it gets forwarded to the sites home page instead.

By the way, why didn't you remove it all together? WannaBeEditor (talk) 06:43, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@WannaBeEditor:I left it there so some other editor familiar with the topic could either fix the reference or find a better one. Which could still happen. Gab4gab (talk) 17:27, 21 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

those unverifiable references

I come across references that don't lead to specific content. Sometimes it's a link to a website landing page. The reader can search around and might find related content but they can't know if they are seeing the source material the editor used. An example is Jonathan Hunt (New Zealand politician) where two references are to New Zealand websites without providing links. I can find one of them but then can't verify the content. I'm tempted to add 'failed verification' but I'm wondering if there's something that flags the issue better. Gab4gab (talk) 15:29, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sticking {{Cite check}} at the top of the article may be more in keeping with what you want to achieve, but ultimately if the linked source doesn't verify the statement (and you can't find the correct link to replace it with) then the verification has indeed failed, and {{Failed verification}} would be apposite. Thanks for your comment

That is the second time today where I have edited an article, and it (the edit) has disappeared during loading (I had added some refs.. but when I checked after your comment, nothing there, so thanks!) - I dont know if it is my very clunky browser that jumps around like a demented chook, or something in the wikimedia servers thingoes - (the trained mice that carry the piece of paper from one department to another so to speak). In the end my refs were pointless, I think I agree with the delete after all - but that is complicated by issues about the various preceding campuses that made up edith cowan uniersity when it was created - I wont bore you... cheers JarrahTree 16:36, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Malu Trevejo revision

Hi Gab, I reversed your edit on Malu Trevejo’s page because Malu is not “American”. In all her interviews, not articles written about her, she states she is Cuban and Spanish. Immigrating to the United States of America, does not make you an American. She is proud of her heritage being Cuban-Spanish. You can read more about American citizenship if you’re not aware of how one becomes a U.S. citizen when born in a foreign country. [1]Pinkdevil619 (talk) 01:24, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Pinkdevil619:, I've restored my edit because I have a reliable source that says Trevejo is Cuban American. While our personal opinions will vary we need to base our article content on published reliable sources. I've added a repeated removal of "... is a Cuban American" section to the talk page. Please discuss this there and reach consensus before removing sourced content from the article. Gab4gab (talk) 16:41, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I used ((dead link)) instead of ((dead url)) to list that page at Category:Articles with dead external links, so would you mind reverting? Let's see if any of them can be updated. Thanks - theWOLFchild 02:29, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, I just saw your dummy edit with the WP:ELDEAD note. (Is it ok if we discuss via talk page instead of edit summaries?)

You are correct, ELDEAD does say;

  • "Links to dead URLs in a list of external links are of no use to Wikipedia articles"

But it also says;

  • "Such dead links should either be updated or removed. It may be worth checking to see if there is a working version of the link in an earlier version of the article"

In this case, I think it's worth seeing if these can be updated. This article is desperate for any kind of sourcing or addition information. It only has 3 refs, 2 of which belong to the same book and the 3rd is the "London Gazette" circa 1942. There has been a 'refimprove' tag on the page since 2008... that's 10 years! I feel it's worth giving a shot under these circumstances and listing under that cat may bring more attention and better chances of improvement. I hope you agree, Cheers - theWOLFchild 02:49, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Thewolfchild:, I've located earlier versions of those links via WayBackMachine which I'll add back to the article. Gab4gab (talk) 02:59, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Gab. Thanks for all you're doing on verifiability on school articles. You reverted a change the other day on the above article saying another team won. Unfortunately, you didn't look closely enough at the source. Benton Harbor was the B class champ in 2018. Clarkston was the A class champ. The original editor has re-added it and I didn't want you to revert it again. The championship lists for states that have had central sanctioing organizations for a long time (thinking primarily of Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan) are often quite lengthy, and the class structures can be very convoluted. This is especially true in the oldest sports; basketball, track, tennis and golf. Thanks for all you do! John from Idegon ([[User Sure. Should we create article about Tyler Roemer? Section about "Scandals"

In regards to the Hawaii Baptist Academy entry, you mentioned that to prevent warring between editors, we cannot edit a page after it's been reverted back and that a consensus should be reached between the editors. But how do you determine which editor is in the right? It's true that part of it is due to one's preferred version, but then there are times when two editors cannot come to an agreement. In that case, how is it determined whose version gets to be the one that stays? The fact that there is a source link provided doesn't mean the information included is appropriate. Especially for private high schools, how do we prevent someone with a grudge against the school from posting material (with source links) that may be partially true but nevertheless is inappropriate for inclusion? How do we prevent one person's point of view (in this case, including information about "scandals") from appearing on a page that would have consequences for that institution? Hawaii Baptist Academy is a private school in Hawaii with a good reputation. Unfortunately, it encountered a couple incidents that one person wanted to include in the Wikipedia page. Someone reading that page would come across this information -- information that frankly is not very relevant to the bigger picture of the school, its description, and its history -- and have their view of the school affected negatively. The bottom line is: Two editors have different preferred versions of what is posted. One editor wants to include a "Scandals" section; the other editor does not. Given that it is a small local school, I hope that we can rule on the side of giving that school the benefit of the doubt. In reading a past exchange about this page, the editor who wants to include the "Scandals" section is insistent on it. How do we go about taking it off if a consensus is not reached? Why does he/she get to keep what he/she included when there is a large group of people who thinks it should be removed? Please advise. HSMT2002 (talk) 23:26, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gab4gab. I noticed that you recently used thefamouspeople.com as a source for biographical information in Lloyd V. Berkner High School. Please note that there is general consensus that thefamouspeople.com does not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for such information. (Discussions here and here). If you disagree, let's discuss it. Thanks. --Ronz (talk) 17:47, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Chino Hills High School notable alumni

All of the people you added do have it mentioned that they attended the school in their profiles, but can you still please add sources in the school page.--Rockchalk717 02:56, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Rockchalk717: All of the names have sources confirming they are alumni cited in their articles. I don't think it's necessary to cite them again in the school article. Gab4gab (talk) 10:06, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually they don't. I went through most of them and the only sources verifying their attendance were dead links. So yes it is necessary. An example of a notable alumni section done right is Wichita South High School in Kansas.--Rockchalk717 15:50, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Rockchalk717: I went through all of them and made sure they had cited sources confirming they are alumni. So actually they do.

The Gregg School

Thanks for your help on this page. I'm trying to add proper references to support the article, but I'm new to this agame and so a bit slow. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.250.248.22 (talk) 11:49, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@218.250.248.22:, I appreciate your efforts to improve The Gregg School. References to published sources are important. They are needed for verification. Often editors of school articles add details they know from their own experience or local knowledge only to have them removed because there are no reliable published sources backing them. Consider becoming a registered user. It can make communication easier if other editors know it is you and not someone else who happens to be using the same IP address. Richmont Graduate University

Thanks for your edits to theRichmont Graduate Universitypage. I have been trying over the past couple months to update the page as it was out of date and incorrect. I am the copyright owner and webmaster for richmont.edu and the content in question. I would be glad to take down the content in question and re-write the history section. Could you please remove the copyvio-revdel from the page. I am relatively new to Wikipedia and would appreciate your help. Scottiebburn (talk) 15:23, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Scottiebburn:, I understand and thank you for the improvements you've made. It's fine to re-add the history section content as long as it's re-worded so it's no longer a copyright violation. Regarding the copyvio-revdel: A Wikipedia administrator needs to do some cleanup in the article edit history. This may take several days, depending on the backlog. My understanding is that the visibility of the copyrighted material in the edit history (by previewing or selecting an older version to edit or read) is an issue. Only administrators have the authority to turn off that visibility. After they complete their task they will remove the template.
It's helpful that you have disclosed your association with Richmont Graduate University on you user page. I'll add a connected contributor template to the university articles talk page for you. Wikipedia has policies and guidance for editors who either have conflicts of interest or are being paid to edit. For example it's recommended that editors not edit articles about their own organization. I'll drop some text on your talk page about those topics for your review. It takes time get familiar with the various conventions and policies of Wikipedia. If you have questions feel free to ask me on my talk page or visit the Tea House where other editors offer friendly advice. Gab4gab (talk) 16:20, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you keep removing Kent J. Thiry from the list? Just b/c something "normally" has an article does not mean it HAS to have an article. However, given there is no article, I can provide a reference that he attended Harvard Business School. It is not false information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Timothymarcc (talkcontribs) 17:48, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Timothymarcc:, I remove the name because we only list people who are notable and an alumnus. A reference confirming he attended Harvard Business School satisfies one of two necessary elements. The generally accepted way to demonstrate notability is to have an article about the person. When a person doesn't have an article we normally remove the name unless there is some justification to make them an exception. So I keep doing the normal thing. Gab4gab (talk) 19:44, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I just left the NYU Stern Business School Alumni page. It did not seem "normal" there.Timothymarcc (talk) 23:01, 15 August 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Timothymarcc (talkcontribs) 22:58, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Timothymarcc:, If you take the time to step through the edit history for February and March of List of NYU Stern people you'll see that most of the red-link names or names not linked to an article were removed over time by editors with edit summaries saying they are non-notable. Certainly from time to time names are added that don't qualify and there are names, such as Deepen Shah, who once had an article that has been deleted. WP:RFCN

Hello, Just wondering why you didn't report this to WP:UAA first, it seems pretty blanant. - FlightTime (open channel) 19:58, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@FlightTime:Yes, it was certainly blatant. The guidance at UAA is to report there when it is both blatant and serious. (and not to report there if I'm also warning them) My thought was, assuming this is just an individual choosing a name poorly, they simply needed to change their user name. Looking at their edits they didn't appear to be promoting Northeastern University or causing other serious damage. Mostly adding content in a sandbox. So I warned them and waited a bit. Perhaps I'm not seeing a serious issue where others would. I do wonder if the warnings are very useful although... I think I've gotten at least one positive response. Gab4gab (talk) 20:28, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Understood, however WP:UAA should be the first stop before heading to WP:RFCN. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 20:42, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@FlightTime:, I think I'm following the instructions at UAA. If I'm not please explain where I'm going wrong. Or is my problem that I'm following the instuctions? Gab4gab (talk) 20:46, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There's other opinions here maybe @Beeblebrox: would like to comment here. - FlightTime (open channel) 21:04, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@FlightTime:, I see now that if I've warning a user about a blatant violation and then time passes without a username change I should go to UAA rather than RFCN. Gab4gab (talk) 21:14, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • (edit conflict)I think maybe we do need to tweak the language at WP:UAAI to reflect actual practice. In practice blocking is actually the tool of first resort for anyone using an obvious WP:ORGNAME. In a case like this where they are claiming (probably falsely) to be representing a real, well known institution we don’t need to see anything else to issue a block, if they’ve made even one edit, even if not related to the university in question, it merits at least a soft block. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:16, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Beeblebrox and FlightTime: Thanks for your patience and friendly advice in clearing this up for me. I was a bit confused by the instructions at UAA which I think I understand now. I'm fine with the approach to ORGNAME violations you've suggested. Gab4gab (talk) 23:42, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome. Thank you for what you do, happy editing. - FlightTime (open channel) 23:49, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Peter Godfrey-Smith from Australian National University people

Hi, the item removed from List of Australian National University people was an addition made by Philozoan, an editor with a past history of only adding/editing content praising Peter Godfrey-Smith across many articles (“famous philosopher”, “acclaimed author” of the “bestseller”, etc.) which don’t seem to be neutral or of good faith. At a bare minimum the reference to “bestseller” should be removed as it is unsubstantiated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.86.209.61 (talk) 04:08, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@202.86.209.61: The alumni brief description is taken from the lead of Peter Godfrey-Smith. If you feel it's not supported by sources that would seem the place to start, although I have no objection to you removing "bestseller" from the description in List of Australian National University people. Article Cleanup

I appreciate your commitment to sourcing information and defending truth from dilettantes like myself, but I think flagging i.e. '(citation needed)' is better for the long term health and currentness of the Wikipedia ecosystem than outright removal of information. Those calls for citation invite the reader to healthily question the facts of the article, and to possibly contribute the necessary corroborating references. To simply remove material on the other hand keeps often correct and useful, if yet un-cited, information from the reader. Wikipedia currently relies on volunteers to contribute to this cultural ark, but the proliferation of difficult to write on phones and tablets is causing a decline in the diversity of voices that can easily contribute to articles within the constraints of their technology. If too many contributors' voices are immediately silenced by neat-nicks like yourself it stifles any interest in contributing further. That is unhealthy to the long term ecosystem. Much better to use the 'citation needed' type tools that call for further construction and verification of knowledge rather than its erasure. Thanks again for your volunteer work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.243.108.69 (talk) 23:46, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

On the other hand sometimes letting an editor know why their recent edit was not accepted prompts a quick fix. When it doesn't result in a quick fix then we have avoided presenting content to the reader which they cannot verify. While you may disagree the Wikipedia policy on verifiability states that "even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it." It's a judgement call whether to remove unverifiable content or add the citation needed tag. In this case three names were added to the list of notables. None of their biography articles mentioned the school. No references were provided. Looked like removal was appropriate to me. Easy for you to fix if you have the necessary sources. Let me know if you need help adding the citations. Gab4gab (talk) 15:34, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

King's College London

Hey, I just saw that you reverted my edit on King's College London. I absolutely agree with you that the short info I stated at the beginning of the lead appears later on in the lead section again in a more detailed manner. However, (this is my personal view) the entire lead section is quite long. I feel for those people who just only read the first two sentences or so with the first (and shortest/simplest) info part of an article, my added info would be good. I will therefore re-add my edit. Again, you are right, it is repetitive (or introductory) to the same info which follows more profoundly later on in the lead. I feel it's good if the info is stated shortly and in simple terms at the very beginning and those who are interested in the details can continue reading. Sir George Monoux College

Hi I looked at this page the other day and noticed that most of the Old Boys listed did not have an inline citation but one, Gary Carpenter, was flagged with "Citation Needed". I couldn't find any references to him but I knew that the entry was true because we started school the same day and graduated together 8 years later. Consequently I simply added the dates to make it easier for anyone to find the references. Meanwhile I was searching with the intention of completing that entry myself. I'm not sure that it was helpful for you to remove the dates.

Unfortunately Carpenter's music career really started after he left school although on one occasion he played one of his compositions to the whole school before morning assembly. In consequence his website starts with his further education which was specifically music based rather than the earlier mainstream education. Luckily there is a section in the Old Monovians website that lists him.

I am puzzled as to why this one person was flagged as needing a citation when so many others were accepted without question. OrewaTel (talk) 14:06, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
