EurAsia Cup TV times

What does your TV schedule show for the EurAsia Cup? Here, the times are peculiar in the sense that it seems to finish a little early each day. My schedule shows 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM (4:00 to 7:00 AM your time). Do you get any more coverage than that, later into the day? For me, it seems a little early to finish. With the event now being tri sanctioned with the Asian Tour, and with 30 more players, did you see the breakdown of the nationalities? Here is the difference with the continents involved with last month's tournament compared to the tournament in early 2017:

+13 Africa

Tylenol par 3 shootout. Should these wins really count as professional wins ?.

Hi i am just wondering if par 3 shootouts really are professional wins that need to be added to players pages ?. Ie we do not count the Masters par 3 contest and that is much the same thing would you agree. These are mickey mouse events i do not think they should be included, what do you think ?. I wouldn't even give the Hero World Challenge ranking points but it's not my decision. Wikipedia tends to follow the official line even when we think it's wrong. The problem with "professional wins", is that there's no accepted list and we have to decide for ourselves. Personally I'm happy with par-3 events. After all it's just golf on a shorter course. WGC-Mexico Championship

Shot Clock Masters

Do you know why this event has 36 fewer players this year than it had last year? 156 last year as the Lyoness Open, and 120 this year with the new name. And it has 33 fewer Europeans this year than last year. Any idea why so many fewer players? It seems odd they would do this, there is plenty of daylight at this time of year. No idea really. Seems a little odd since the whole purpose of the shot clock is to speed things up, which should allow a bigger field. Vandal on the World Seniors Championship is unreal

Hi as you can see what I have been dealing with some guy keeps changing the status of the World Seniors Championship because he thinks it relates to the main tour. LOL. Read what is vandal first. Here is the sources:
- "Open to any player not currently on tour aged over 40" (from pdf-file in 2017 article);
- "This tournament is only open to Amateur players not currently in the 128" (from pdf-file in 2018 article);
So, only amateur (non-tour) players were eligible to play since 2017. "Non-ranking events" is a terminology used for the events with pro players (otherwise, Q-School, IBSF championships are the "non-ranking events" also). But you are not listening World Seniors events are part of a new World Seniors Tour like in golf. Jimmy White, Ken Doherty and Steve Davis have played in the events. They were "non-ranking" until 2016 only when they were organized by World Snooker and eligible for the main tour pro-players. You are not listening to anything I am saying Jason Francis wants qualifiers to get through sectional qualifying to play the legends on the World Seniors Tour. On the Snooker talk pages if you go back and read the Status of these events Betty Logan. It's a pity for you, but Mark Davis, Jimmy White and Ken Doherty didn't play in 2017 and 2018 because they were not eligible for that year's editions, as it was exclusively for non-tour players, per sources. "Ranking" events are played with Top-128 pro-players (and included into the world ranking), and all "non-ranking" events (Masters, Champions League, Champions of Champions, Hong Kong, Haining) are played for same Top-128 pro-players (with the addition of the some wild cards). 46.211.121.242 (talk) 22:56, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I take a simple view. We can't call the 2017 World Seniors Championship an amateur event when the winner wins £10,000. That would be just plain confusing - Wikipedia is meant to be readable by ordinary folk. See Amateur sports: "Amateur sports are sports in which participants engage largely or entirely without remuneration." Maybe the organisers have some strange idea what "amateur" means or maybe the participants are "amateurs" in some strange sense I don't understand, but the event can't be called "amateur" surely. Kolon Korea Open

I was looking through my TV cable box schedule, and it is showing that Golf Channel is planning to show us live coverage of the Korea Open, which is unusual. It might be a mistake, and it might not be, time will tell in the next few days. I was wondering, does your TV schedule indicate that you will be receiving coverage of the Korea Open in the UK? Okay, thanks. I've found the cable box schedule with mistakes before. Late last year, it was showing that Golf Channel was going to show the Australian Masters. Clearly that was going to be a mistake, as the Australian Masters hasn't been played in a couple years now. .. Usually, the only time that Golf Channel would make it a point to show us an Asian Tour event was when it was late in the year, and they would show us the Thailand Golf Championship (which was not played last year anyway). But other than that, Golf Channel doesn't typically show us any Asian based golf tournaments that aren't sanctioned with the PGA Tour. Hopefully this year will be different, because I'm hoping they show the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament and the Japan Open, both of which are on the Japan Tour, as you know. They especially should show the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament, since Brooks Koepka will be trying to win his 3rd in a row. Our Golf Channel has been known to make exceptions; in February 2014, they decided to show the Ladies Australian Masters because Cheyenne Woods was in it. And two years ago, they decided to show the Singapore Open because Jordan Spieth was in it. So, with Brooks Koepka being the hot thing of the moment, Golf Channel really should make another exception and finally show us the Dunlop Phoenix tournament. We'll find out later this year. Well it turns out that the TV box schedule was correct, Golf Channel is showing the Korea Open. I'm thinking they are showing it because it's in the Open qualifying. Some recognizable players in it are Kevin Na, KT Kim, Keith Horn, YE Yang, Richard T. Lee, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Sang Moon Bae, Miguel Tabuena, Terry Pilkadaris, Jeev Milkha Singh, and Jbe' Kruger. That must be right I think - that they are showing it because it's in the Open qualifying. Probably being an Open qualifying event has improved the field too, although perhaps its just that its an Asian tour event this year (some 50 non-Korean). Seems to be an event on the way up. Do you know if there is any TV coverage of the Amateur Championship there in the UK? I don't think we have ever had it on TV here, not on Golf Channel nor any other network. 3M Open conflict

I want to ask your opinion, how to go about changing over a tournament from one tour to another.

Last year, when the tournament in the Dominican was changed from the Web.com Tour to the PGA Tour, we kept the page as it is, and simply added a new frame on the page to show that it is now a PGA Tour event.

Well now, the 3M Championship on the Champions Tour will be called the 3M Open and changed over to the PGA Tour. The problem is that I found that an editor (one I have never noticed as a golf editor) has made a seperate page for the 3M Open.

So, here is the question; do you think the new page should be kept? Or do you think we should ask for it to be deleted, and then simply use the existing 3M page next year for the 3M Open, the same as we continued to use the page for Dominican event once it was changed over to a PGA Tour event? It's true that we usually keep the same page when tour affiliations change. It's very common outside US/Europe - especially with the Asian Tour/OneAsia rivalry that existed for a few years. I think in this case (the 3M Open) that it's more than that. Seniors event to main tour and with a different name. Probably the PGA Tour are thinking of it as a new event too. Open telecast question

Hi Nigej, I was wondering how extensive the coverage of the Open is in the UK? I read something in social media the other day in which many British viewers were upset about the way the coverage is being handled. Which network(s) is carrying it there, and for how long has that network been having it? Here, the Golf Channel/NBC family has had it since 2016, and they are currently giving nearly 50 hours combined. European Open TV coverage

I was wondering, are the 3rd and 4th rounds of the European Open shown live there, or are they shown on a delay? Here, with all that Golf Channel has to show for the week, there's a time conflict, and Golf Channel ends up showing the 3rd and 4th rounds on a 19 hour delay. Yes live in the UK. European Open live until 4pm UK time (5pm German time) - last tee time is 11:45 UK time, then over to the Senior Open (where the last tee time is 2:40pm) until 7pm and then the PGA Tour after that's over. June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules

New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.

Editathons

Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. TV coverage

The BBC are covering the European Championships extensively. I believe that includes the golf. How much the coverage will be I've not discovered. Eurosport are also covering the European Championships, but again I'm not sure of the golf. Seems they are covering at least the Sunday on the Eurosport Player. Thanks for your response. We get BBC World News here, but not BBC Sport. This is really frustrating that we can't see the Euro Team Championships here, golf or otherwise. We get extensive coverage of the Premier League here in the States, so, it's not as if the American networks have any problem showing European/British sporting events. Yes thanks. But, that is where I was looking an hour ago, and at that time, they had not yet showed the score of the match. But yet, I noticed you had already loaded the score of that first match into Wikipedia. Were you looking at something else, something that told you the score before that site was showing it? Images being taken down

I was wondering if you know a way to be able to post images in the info box of golf tournaments without having them be at risk of being taken down? Fact is, a certain editor has gone around and removed a few of the images that I have uploaded, but usually only of the higher profile tournaments, such as the Players Championship and the Masters. Not my area at all really. Seems looking at The Players Championship, for instance, File:Players Championship logo.png has a WP:NFUR only for 2016 Players Championship. However "A separate, specific rationale must be provided each time the media file is used in an article." Since there was one for 2016 Players Championship but not one for Players Championship it was removed from the Players Championship article. When this tournament moves to September next year, there will obviously be less daylight to work with. Do you happen to know if they will be lowering the players from 150 to a lower number? Off topic ... Approximately 90 minutes from the time I am typing this, TV coverage of the U.S. Amateur Championship gets underway from Pebble Beach, in the Fox family here in the States. Hopefully there is a decent amount of TV coverage of it over there in the UK. I remember when Matthew Fitzpatrick won it five years ago, becoming the first Englishman in over a century to win it. Thanks. Boxing, wrestling, and UFC gets on pay per view here, along with a few other things, but I think this is the fist time golf will be on pay per view here. They could end up regretting it. People want to see golf, but that doesn't mean they will pay special to see it on TV. Some of the 1992 Summer Olympic games were put on pay per view TV here, and they lost million$, because people simply weren't going to pay to watch the Olympics; in the present day, the networks of NBC (Golf Channel's parent network) furnish extensive coverage of the Olympics, no pay per view at all, which is nice. Even last summer, NBC launched the Olympic Channel. I'm hoping that they will have coverage of the Youth Summer Olympics in October. ... NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello Nigej, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news

The New Page Feed now has a new "Articles for Creation" option which will show drafts instead of articles in the feed, this shouldn't impact NPP activities and is part of the WMF's AfC Improvement Project.

As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.

There are a number of coordination tasks for New Page Patrol that could use some help from experienced reviewers. See Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination#Coordinator tasks for more info to see if you can help out.

Other

A new summary page of reliable sources has been created; Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources/Perennial sources, which summarizes existing RfCs or RSN discussions about regularly used sources.

Moving to Draft and Page Mover

Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js^(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.

List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions.
MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues.
User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js^(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js^(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
User:Primefac/revdel.js^(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you.
User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js^(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link.
User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
User:Evad37/rater.js^(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

As per WP:NGOLF part 4: "They have won at least one recognized amateur golf tournament at the national or international level". Now this is very loose in my view. I did try to change this, see: Wikipedia talk:Notability (sports)/Archive 30#Proposed change to WP:NGOLF (2) to restrict this criteria (for modern golfers) to "elite" WAGR events but got very little interest. Concerning Celia Barquín Arozamena; she won the European Ladies Amateur Championship in late July. This is an elite WAGR event, so that she would satisfy WP:NGOLF under either the current or my proposed change. WP:NSPORTS says "The article must provide reliable sources showing that the subject meets the general notability guideline or the sport specific criteria set forth below." I can see that she's at the bottom end of notability as a golfer, but using WP:NGOLF she is notable enough. Yes. What can I say, it was a thrashing. After the USA lead 3 to 0 after the first three matches on Friday, Europe then went on win 17.5 of the remaining 25 points. Project updates

ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open field this year has been reduced from 144 to 132. I assume it is because it is too difficult to get 144 players all the way through each day with enough daylight to work with. It's early November. They tried it last year, and they likely realized that it was a bad idea. Early November, in the USA, simply doesn't allow for enough daylight for a field any larger than 132. Coordinates

Do you know if there would be some sort of error if we try to put a second set of coordinates at the top of a page (meaning, putting something like this >"coord|-20.167|57.766|type:event|display=title" at the bottom of the editing window, below the first one, but of course it would be a 2nd set of coordinates)?

Seems that it's only intended for a single location when using the display=title form. You can use it twice but it puts the second on top of the first, which is no good. An alternative is to use display=inline and put them somewhere else, like the infobox, eg:

I know its tempting to remove red links to make the article look nicer but the general principle is to leave them in, unless you think there will never be or shouldn't be such an article. Open sources

Hi Nigej. Think I have made what I would describe as a noob mistake with one of my Open citation links. I thought it was from a book and that was the source originally used in the wiki article, but realised now that it was copying what was in wikipedia. So basically used a source which is itself sourced by wikipedia. I don't think any content I put together was wrong though. I looked back and you put together the history of the qualifying process and format that was listed in the main article (and I moved to its own separate article). Did you use a single source to do that or did you build up the information from the individual years articles (i.e. the newspaper sources from each year)? I built it up from individual years, mainly cos I couldn't find anything satisfactory. Not the best approach maybe but sometimes its the only way. I seem to remember finding some wrong information in one of the Open articles from the 1920s and then setting out to find the truth. Had some good fun with the Opens. eg 1911 was "The 1911 Open Championship was a golf competition held at the Royal St George's Golf Club. Yes it is an interesting aspect of Wikipedia. Someone writes something unreferenced in Wikipedia, some lazy journalist copies it, someone else then references this in Wikipedia. Part of the reason I like to confirm details by checking with contemporary sources, where possible. Also, the organisers of events have an interest in demonstrating a continuity over the years to make the event look as important as possible sometimes at the expense of accuracy. One user has been pursuing a campaign against Lisa Thiel on Eggheads (TV series) for years, it seems. Often it takes the form of pretending that she is leaving imminently, hence the 2019 being added. Welsh Alliance League seasons

I have been working on Welsh Alliance League and its seasons, having recently created the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons (while keeping 2018–19 up to date). I then wanted to go back to all the way to when the league started in the 1984–85 season. So I created league table templates from 1984–85 season to date. I was next going to work my way back through the seasons and create and update all seasons (using these league table templates in the articles). So to see 'Nomination for Deletion' come about feels unfair considering that I am currently working my way through. I'm sorry @Zackmann08: if I caused offence when I replied to you first about the nomination for deletion but it did throw me back. I understand that you don't want unused templates to exist but these templates will be used. I am just getting round to implementing them into the articles. If you look at my contributions you will see that I have made many contributions to the Welsh Alliance League, which is a mammoth task. FIBA Intercontinental Cup Finals Top Scorer

I saw your comment at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2019_February_21#Template:FIBA_Intercontinental_Cup_Finals_Top_Scorer. I had tried to delete the content from FIBA Intercontinental Cup since there was no consensus to merge at the AfD, but then the editor restored it while tweaking the WP:OR that it was an award. At that point, I did not further pursue it as an WP:UNDUE content issue. I left open the possibility that this was somehow talked about in non-English sources, though I pretty much doubt it. The same editor has also created pages like EuroLeague Finals Top Scorer, ABA League Top Scorer, and Basketball Bundesliga Top Scorer. I think they believe that since a leading/top scorer is notable in some leagues, that a similiar stat list should be created for all leagues. Reminders

NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. Have you seen that user's Userpage? There is a negative comment about Matt Kuchar on there. I suppose that falls under freedom of speech, but it's not right. Plus, he even had a vadalistic edit turned back by one of the Wikipedia bots. Some people have too much time on their hands. I wish I had that much time. Two man team Golf events

Hi I do editing for golf and I think that two man team event wins should be added to the team wins section and removed as individual wins on players wiki pages. A team win is a team win not an individual win. The same rule should apply to golf as it does in all other sports when this occurs. Your thoughts please ?. Doubles in Tennis is regarded as Doubles titles and not Singles or individual wins. The first section is generally called "Professional wins" and includes wins in singles, foursomes and fourballs. The other section is "Team appearances" and lists events where a player has represented a team. Within this style, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans is regarded as a Professional win. The players do not represent anything in this event, it is simply a pairs event. I know is it referred to as a Team Event but it would clearly not be suitable for the Team Appearances section. Watford vs. West Ham

Does your TV schedule show that this Watford vs West Ham game is scheduled for 3:00 PM British time on Sunday? Oddly enough, our Golf Channel is actually scheduled to show this game on Sunday, to the point that the times for the final round of the British Masters have apparently been moved up. The match is definitely on Sunday at 3 pm local time. Last day of the premier league, all 10 matches being played at the same time. Not sure why they'd be showing a mid-table match when the interest is between Man City and Liverpool. Thanks. Well, like I was telling someone earlier, Sky used to be in the Fox family, but Sky is now in the NBC family, and the NBC family shows quite a bit of the Premier League here in the States. Yep. Well that won't be the only early tee time. The final round of the Regions Tradition will be seen here on a delay on Golf Channel, as the tee times have been moved up to avoid bad weather. The last tee time will go out at 9:00 AM Central time, 10:00 AM my time. Golf Channel's coverage of it begins at 12:00 PM, making the delay approximately 3 hours. ... And as I am typing this, the Byron Nelson on CBS got going only a few minutes ago due to weather, and they are 6 hours behind schedule today. Clearly they will not be able to finish the third round today. They are talking about making two cuts, with only 60 players finishing the 4th round so they can actually have four rounds while at the same time being able to get finished on Sunday, to avoid having a Monday finish right before the PGA Championship. Sky Sports on the scene at the PGA Championship

I'm watching "Live From The PGA Championship" on Golf Channel, and this segment is soley with the personalities from Sky Sports, along with their Sky Sports microphones, doing "On The Range". As I mentioned previously, Sky is now in the NBC/Golf Channel family. And, because we get the Open Championship tournament coverage on Golf Channel and NBC, I don't doubt that we will see plenty of Sky when that time comes this summer. ... TNT and CBS give us approximately 28 hours of PGA Championship tournament coverage. And Golf Channel and NBC give us nearly 50 hours of Open Championship tournament coverage. Amanda Anisimova

Has American Amanda Anisimova gotten much conversation going over there? I am watching coverage on Tennis Channel (and later NBC) of the women's semifinal match, and she is leading 1 set to 0. The last American woman to win the French Open not named Williams was Capriati in 2001, and coincidentally Amanda was born in 2001. And her Wikipedia page got over 140,000 views yesterday. .. Also, looking forward to the big Federer/Nadal match.

Yep, you never know. As far as Wimbledon though, the coverage here started less than 10 minutes ago. ESPN is giving us eleven hours of coverage today, 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM my time (11:00 AM to 10:00 PM in the UK.)

But I like the women's USA soccer team's chances better than I like the USA rugby men's team's chances. In late September, it will be time for the next rugby World Cup, and our USA team usually gets beaten soundly. I'm hoping for a single win by them. There isn't really much rugby talent developed here, and so our national rugby team is usually inferior to the other national teams.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Some mixed questions

If you'll indulge me, I have three unrelated questions. First, do you know why the Irish Open would have one wave of tee times this year, when they had two waves last year? Second, do you know if our Independence Day parade that our president is putting on will be on television over there later today? And third, as far as the Gold Cup and the Copa America events, do you know if either one of those are being televised over there and whether anyone there has any interest in watching them? Golf and tennis majors

Have you ever noticed the lack of unique criteria used in the selection of the players in the tennis majors? I like tennis, but I noticed that the nationalities in the tennis majors is basically the same across the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. But the golf majors obviously have unique criteria for each of them; there is a huge difference between the nationality distribution of the US Open golf and the Open Championship golf, easily proving that there is unique criteria used for each. Perhaps golf is a little unusual in that the four majors each decide their own qualifying rules. I don't think they are quite as distinctive as they used to be though. The top x in the world rankings get in automatically and since one of them near always wins (31 in a row have been in the world top-50), they aren't quite so different as you might think. A busy time

Wow, this week in golf we have a WGC (and an alternate event), a senior major, and a women's major. This means extra work filling in scores in Wikipedia. Then next week, we have another women's major to fill in. ... But I'm not complaining, better to have too much golf than not enough. Also I'm looking forward to seeing the Solheim Cup at GlenEagles in Scotland. What I can't understand is why the PGA Tour schedule is going to have the QBE Shootout and the Presidents Cup in the same week. Maybe they simply ran out of calendar. On an off topic, I am watching the Canadian Open tennis tournament, on Tennis Channel. This is one of the nine Masters events in tennis. Currently it is the Konta match I am watching, against Yastremska. And next week it is another Masters event in Cincinnati, Ohio (Ohio is my home state). If Konta were to win this tournament, it would give her good momentum going into the US Open in a few weeks. On The Range

Here in the States, Golf Channel is showing the Sky feed of "On The Range". It's a 90 minute live special that they are showing each Wednesday before the playoffs. Hopefully they will continue to have this every week throughout the season, not only during these playoffs. We'll see. MLS

The English Premier League has a fan base here in the USA, as I have seen the TV ratings for it. It actually does a little better here than MLS does. But anyway, I was wondering, is MLS ever on TV in the UK? I can't see that it would be, but I could be wrong. Well, if it is, and if they show it live, this Sunday night at 3:30 AM UK time, the two Los Angeles teams play each other, maybe you can find it. ... The English Premier League television viewership appears to be thriving here in the USA. This past Saturday, the Liverpool/Tottenham game got 1,189,000 viewers around the USA. Even MLS (our own league) doesn't get that much viewership in the USA. I'd like to think that MLS gets decent viewership over there, but I'm guessing it doesn't, but that's okay. Walker Cup

I would have helped on the 2019 Walker Cup page, but for some reason it is not on TV here in the States. All we have is a 1 hour highlight show of it on Golf Channel tonight at 11:00 PM. Well, I found the online leaderboard. Very irritating that it is not on TV here. We have wall to wall golf coverage on TV any other time (even the Asia Pacific Amateur), but for some reason we do not get to see the Walker. Hmm, go figure. Update on the tennis. Here in the States, the US Open men's championship match got 2,700,000 viewers, which is 700,000 more than last year. Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion

Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.

Not English

A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.

Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

European circuit wins for Peter Townsend

Are we sure the Coca-Cola Young Professionals' Championship and Walworth Aloyco Tournament can be categorized as European circuit wins? With the Coca-Cola tournament it was limited to pro golfers under the age of 25 - not a lot. Also - and more importantly - it was not added to the European Tour schedule during its inaugural 1972 season (or any subsequent year). Lastly, Peter Oosterhuis' win is not placed under his "European circuit" label.

Secondly, I know nothing of the importance of the Walworth Aloyco Tournament. There is no Wikipedia page for it and there are no citations for Townsend's win or previous tournaments. From what I can tell it was only held from 1969-71.

I think this sort of thing is something of a black art. Probably the two could be hived off into the other wins section. There were a few of these age restricted events at the time and they got a fair amount of coverage. Some of the continental tournaments were not well covered by the British press but I did create an article on the Italian BP Open at one time. Will have a look at the Walworth Aloyco. @Oogglywoogly: I have found the following in a Dutch publication http://www.nga-earlygolf.nl/golfarchief/files/original/58e6005f9dcb96896c4327cffd031823.pdf (page 138) which talks about the fact that winners of continental opens were given an entry to the 1970 British PGA Matchplay Championship. Translating it says "will now also be invited twelve continental professionals from the first in the Open championships that will be played in the twelve months prior to July 30, namely: Portugal, Spain, France, the Netherlands, West Germany, Switzerland, Italy (the Walworth-Aloyco tournament) and Scandinavia ..." Seems the Walworth-Aloyco was regarded as the equivalent of the Italian Open that year (the Italian Open was not played from 1961 to 1970) which would make it a fairly important event that year. There are now 807 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.

Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

The Snooker Shoot Out is treated as any other ranking event. 6-red events can be treated similarly. Treating a 6 red seniors event as both variant and senior is just making the thing overly complex. Anyway its a very minor event anyway. As to the fact that variant events "are always colour coded" ..., we can simply change the previous seasons too. The Shootout is a 15 red ranking event where century breaks and 147s count towards career totals. the 6 reds events cannot be treated similarly as they go to the variant events finals section. if you don't want two colours why can't you make it blue like the other 6 red variant played on the main tour ?.you say it is a minor event so why not use the variant colour being used for 10 years ? regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.251.199.24 (talk) 23:19, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Variant relates to "vary", ie they vary the rules: eg the shot clock, ball in hand for fouls, etc. So the Shoot Out is clearly a variant event. We should get rid of the VE in the table in my view. Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). ICL International

Not at all confident I would say. I did find this http://www.sunshinetour.info/profiles/profile.php?player=BAI001 (click on career highlights) This lists "ICL Transvaal International" in December 1976 (presumably the same event) which we are missing both in ICL International and in the Hugh Baiocchi article. Townsend's 1976 win was in January (https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=c5JAAAAAIBAJ&sjid=BaUMAAAAIBAJ&pg=1638%2C3110227) so this could plausibly be the ICL International. http://www.thegolfclub.co.za/hughbaiocchi.htm calls this event "Transvaal Open" which confuses the issue even more. The same article has him winning the 1974 ICL Transvaal Open which seems to be what we have as a Transvaal Open win at the end of 1973. Overall it seems to me possible that ICL sponsored the Transvaal Open in 1973/74 and at some point this turned into the ICL International. Combining the two events, we have Baiocchi (73/74), Baker (74/75), Townsend (75/76), Baiocchi (76/77), Player (77/78 see http://www.sunshinetour.info/profiles/profile.php?player=PLA004), Hayes (78/79) ... so exactly 1 event per season. The only thing I'm confident about is that Baiocchi should have another win in November 1986. Found this [9] which confirms Vin Baker's win as being the ICL Transvaal Open, so have made the corresponding changes to all articles concerned. Matt Kuchar

I am watching Golf Channel's coverage of the final round of the Singapore Open, and Kuchar is on the 16th hole. Apparently, Golf Channel's coverage is on a 1 hour delay. I am guessing that the tee times were moved up to avoid bad weather. But, whenever that happens, Golf channel is not nice enough to move up the time they show the action, they simply shho the coverage on a delay. I see that Kuchar won, which spoils the ending. I hope at least you guys in Europe got to see the coverage live. Here, Golf Channel had no excuse not to show it live, because in the middle of the night, all they were doing was showing a repeat of something from earlier anyway. He is shown as withdrawn from the Players, but I am not sure if he teed off or not. Do you think we should leave the count at 144 players on the 2020 Players page? Al Besselink

I had or have a PGA Tour Media Guide (I have twice moved since this edit[12] that lists the Caracas Open as a win for Besselink. (We know the PGA Tour records are full of mistakes. George Archer's record for putts in a 1980 tournament has changed over the years. Media reports at the time say 94[13], in 1989 it was reported as 94 too[14] but the last time I looked the PGA Tour has it as 95. Then there is the missing Billy Casper wins and playoff loss[15]. I think my point is made about the Tour and their crappy recordkeeping) It is actually a IC in the article till you and one other editor changed the totals and one of my pet peeves[16] around here is the changing of something[17] that has a reference on it. I've changed it. I'm not 100% convinced really, https://www.pgatour.com/players/player.01084.al-besselink.html has just 1 win in 1957 not 2 and a total of 4. Official prize money is given there as $13,041 which is confirmed by newspaper reports at the end of 1957. Unclear whether this includes the $4,000 he got for winning in Caracas. He won $2,800 for winning the Kansas City Open, so perhaps would struggle to have got $13,041 without the $4,000. Nigej (talk) 21:16, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Who were the real Opressed nations or people? Those who lived in such countries whose legal system did not even recognize minority rights. Just some example: Welsh, Irish, Scottish in Britain, the Occitan, Catalan, Corsican, Alsatian, West Flemish, Lorraine Franconian, Gallo, Picard or Ch’timi and Arpitan, who were in super majority before the mid 19th century in France.
