Revision as of 21:48, 20 January 2012

This article contains the results of the 2012 Republican presidential primaries and caucuses.

The 2012 Republican primaries are the selection processes by which the Republican Party selects delegates to attend the 2012 Republican National Convention from August 27-30. The series of primaries, caucuses, and state conventions culminates in the National Convention where the delegates vote on and select a candidate. A simple majority (1,144) of the total delegate votes (2,286) is required to become the party's nominee.

Candidates

Four major candidates remain in the Republican race: Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum.

Three major candidates to drop out of the race after the caucuses and primaries had begun. Michele Bachmann suspended her campaign following a poor performance in Iowa; Jon Huntsman dropped out after placing third in the New Hampshire primary; Rick Perry dropped out after Iowa and New Hampshire but prior to the South Carolina primary after polling poorly.

Overview of results

  • The delegate totals are a projection and have not been officially pledged yet.
  • Totals include the lowest and highest projection estimates.
  • Unprojected delegates included in Total for each State. 1,783 pledged, 503 unprojected/unpledged.[1]
