To say it in WikiVoice, or not?
While this list of sources is really good and does establish "commonly used by reliable sources" I think we should additionally ask ourselves - what added benefit is there to Wikipedia saying it "in our own voice" as against simply reporting in a neutral manner that it is common for his comments to be described as racist.
As of this moment, we are engaging in what I think is admirable short-term restraint. We say in the lede "He has a history of making controversial [weasel words] comments." That's fine as far as it goes, because 'controversial comments' is true, and is neither positive nor negative as an evaluation. Sometimes controversial comments are good, sometimes they are bad. Fine.
But we are at the same time here being too cautious, I think, in that we fail to inform the reader as to why the comments are controversial. Is he saying things that might be controversial in Iowa like "Gay marriage should be legal" or "Marijuana prohibition has done more harm than good"? No, actually.
So I think we should cautiously say something like "He has a history of making comments that have commonly been referred to as racist.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]" Well, maybe 9 footnotes is excessive, but you see my point. To include it in a BLP, or not?
BLPs wherein a subject's work, beliefs or ideologies are perhaps more controversial than the actual subject, should not become focused on bolstering and subsequently refuting the subject's views or theories rather than actually defining the subject. In many cases this may in fact be due to the subject trying to push their own ideas, while others work diligently to refute them, but many such cases involve editors who have no affiliation with the subject other than a personal belief/disbelief in their work. A person's biography is not a good place to debate scientific theory or ideological beliefs; such debates belong in the articles that focus on those topics. For BLPs, it is enough to simply state what their views are and link to the articles which expand on those views. ~

When to turn in the bit
My views on this are quite simple. An admin telling a user to "grow the fuck up" is absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances and is ground for immediate desysopping. If we care about having a serious, thoughtful, kind, adult and mature community (which I assume was the sentiment behind that unseemly outburst) then we have to model that behavior ourselves as admins. There's a bit of sad irony in behaving in a juvenile and bullying fashion in an attempt to get others to behave better. Putting things in perspective
I was reading Wikipedia:FRAMBAN in an attempt to improve my understanding of what happened. Lo and behold, nestled quietly in one of the comments was a wikilink to the essay, Wikipedia:Wikipedia does not need you. The following paragraph drew my undivided attention:
Should it happen that a cabal of admins, operating on the talk page of an article or the lion's den of AN/I, manage to block you on an invented charge, the world will continue to turn. The grass will grow, the birds will lay eggs, the number of Pokémon-related articles will still double every 1.7 weeks, and articles on weathermen will be brought to AfD. Sure, it won't be done as smoothly and as elegantly as when you did it, but it will be done. This encyclopedic project will continue to turn. Sad, but true.

In a process that began last year with WP:DS2021, the Arbitration Committee is evaluating Discretionary Sanctions (DS) in order to improve it. Hi Atsme, I hope things are going well. I just saw File:White tube sea anemone (Cerianthus membranaceus) 0439atsme.jpg at the top here, and thought wow another gorgeous photo, and then saw that you labeled it as Cerianthus membranaceus. I'm pretty familiar with that species, and I don't think the photo is it. Tube anemones typically have, well, tubes, usually kind of leathery, and normally burrowed into the sand, with just the oral disc and tentacles showing above. (They also are not sea anemones.) The animal in your photo has a fleshy stem without a tube, pedal attachment to the (shell? rock?) it's on, and the head region is branched with multiple short-tentacled polyps. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I think it's likely to be a soft coral (octocoral) of the family Alcyoniidae. It might be some species of Sarcophyton, but I don't know which species. Alternatively, it could be some kind of true sea anemone. But in any case, it's a stunning specimen, and as always, a splendid photo of it. --Tryptofish (talk) 00:06, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have no clue how that happened and it was long enough ago that I have little to no recollection of it. Glad to help. The white-plumed anemone certainly looks like a strong possibility. On the other hand, I looked in a (huge) book that I have about corals, and there's a photo there of an "unidentified Sarcophyton species that is also a very strong look-alike. I would love to see that photo but I don't have a (huge), uhm...book like yours. Sounds like a coraloscopy is in order if we're examining polyps. Annnyway...at this point in time, all I have to go on are the photographs I shot. I just added one that shows a contracted anemone beside an erect one - funny how huge tubes contract like that, although this particular species does live in cold water. Oh well, you know what they say:

(edit conflict) No, I did some more looking, and it is the anemone (Metridium). At the top of the stalk, the animal in your photo has a sort-of ring, out of which the branches with the polyps emerge. Thank you, Tryp - I added one more photo to show how much easier it is to be friends instead of anemones. It was quite difficult to shoot in the aquarium because of the thickness and curvature of the glass, and the varying degrees of light refraction coming from above and below water to create incredible prisms of color that would be difficult to recreate. I even like the skewed effect caused by the curvature of the glass, although many pros would consider it undesirable, particularly those who are focused on exact replication when capturing a moment whereas I see it more as artistic recreation. I love it! (So much better than arguing about ArbCom, I can tell you that!) I see that you took the photo at the New England Aquarium, which is a magnificent place. And they have an excellent collection of cooler-water anemones. I know some of the staff aquarists/marine biologists there, and one of them tells an incredible story of getting veterinarian help for one of the big sharks in the central tank. They sedated the shark, and put it in the back seat of a car, and drove it to the vet. Just imagine seeing a car going down the highway with a live shark sitting in the back seat! Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Responding as a TP watcher. I'm not going to get involved in the GA reassessment because... I just won't. But I took a look at the GAR, and it looks to me like you and Calvaryman still have the same differences in view that were there at the RSN discussion. And it looks like the dispute makes the page "unstable" in a way that renders it ineligible as a GA (which I think it does). I don't know how to resolve your disagreement. But my advice, as a TP watcher, is that you have two broad options: (1) reach a compromise with Calvaryman, or (2) accept the delisting. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:19, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's difficult to maintain good cheer when being bullied, interrogated, and character assassinated. It's not the same person we know who behaves in a similar manner, but sure sounds like him. I'm pretty damn sure that Elon Musk was not pushing cryonics and promising pitbull dog owners that their bulldog-terrier crossbreeds would be renamed, revived and returned in the 21st century as Staffordshire Bull Terriers. I'm tired of having to deal with grown men who throw temper tantrums and bully editors when they don't get their way. It's harrassment, Tryp, and certainly not collegial behavior. As for the content, I cannot imagine why anyone would support a flat-earth theory and accept it as a statement of fact in Wikivoice because that is exactly what is being asked of us. I don't want my good name associated with such garbage - and probably wouldn't care as much if I had the protection of anonymity, but I don't. Liken it to someone arguing with you about an 1800s sub-species of monkeys that resembled bulky spider monkeys that had been crossed with babboons and gorillas in the lowland evergreen forests in Guyana, and labeled Big Foot. A century later, people started writing articles and books about it - referencing anecdotal accounts from the 1800s because there is nothing else to go on. Some conspiracy theorists were convinced that the BigFoot we hear about today is the original Big Foot from the lowland evergreen forests in Guyana. I took a quick look back at the GAR, and it looks like both of you are very unhappy with the situation. And of course I'm saddened to see that. (Don't worry, I'm not really sad; you know what I mean.) I think that just letting it go is the best course of action. Your high school sweetheart? Hopefully the proof isn't a marraige certificate. As for the GA – we went through hell trying to appease 2 POV warriors in order to get that GA promoted. A helluva lotta work went into it, so with that in mind, I don't see one valid reason to inject inaccurate flat-earth theory in Wikivoice in that article. There's already more than enough included per DUE. It would be nice if we could improve the sources, but there just aren't many books written about 18th & 19th century mongrels, to put it bluntly. Back in 2019, two highly disruptive editors caused that GA review to be put on hold. One was a relentless BSL advocate - wants all bully breeds to be exterminated. I'm not sure if there's a connection, but it led to the disparagement and outing of 2 editors by another BSL advocate off-Wiki. The WP editor was t-banned, then got caught socking which led to an indef. The other disruptive editor finally admitted there were 2 theories about the origins, apologized to us, and unwatched the article – only to return a few months later with a vengeance. He simply won't stop kicking that dead horse. So to say it's sad is an understatement. Maybe musicman or songmaker will play us a sad song.Atsme💬📧 02:17, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It was quite difficult to shoot in the aquarium because of the thickness and curvature of the glass, and the varying degrees of light refraction coming from above and below water to create incredible prisms of color that would be difficult to recreate. I even like the skewed effect caused by the curvature of the glass, although many pros would consider it undesirable, particularly those who are focused on exact replication when capturing a moment whereas I see it more as artistic recreation.
