OS tool thingamabob

Hi - I was looking at List of Category A listed buildings in Moray (I'm gradually working my way through the list, writing articles about buildings that don't have one), and clicked on one of the OS numbers under the 'Grid Ref' column. I got this 503 'Service Unavailable' error - it says you're the maintainer of the tool, so I came here. Is this a temporary glitch, or is the tool no longer operational - in which case, should I remove all the links to it from the list? Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 17:49, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

  • Please do not delete the links. Please do pester me in a fortnight's time if I have not done something. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:19, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

OK, will do - I visit that list quite often, I'll check it periodically to see if it's fixed. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 07:36, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi RHaworth - I realise it hasn't been a fortnight yet, but thought you might want to know that while the links aren't working yet, the error message has changed - I'm now getting a 404 instead of a 503. Thought that might be helpful, cheers GirthSummit (blether) 09:37, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

It has now been over a fortnight - so a gentle prod to see if you can progress this as lots of OS links are now not operating. — Keith D (talk) 21:01, 25 July 2019 (UTC)
  • Thanks for that - it helps keep me feeling guilty. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:13, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
  • Are you doing anything about this? I am asking because I think I can update the template to link to geohacks using the OS grid reference converted to WGS84. To do so will require some effort and I don't wish to if you are pursuing your own idea. Op47 (talk) 15:21, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
  • I'll take ithat you wish me to hold fire for now. Op47 (talk) 08:48, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi, RHaworth. If you'd like, I can try to convert any code for the os tool to Lua (I'm not an expert). A Lua module might be more maintainable that a separate toolforge thingy. —hike395 (talk) 07:17, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Dudley Miles, GirthSummit, Keith D, Op47, hike395 and anyone else who is interested: I have now done something - see Template talk:OS coord#Getting back up 2019. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 18:02, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Just checked the numbers at (List of Category A listed buildings in Moray) and they're working again - all appears to be well. :) GirthSummit (blether) 16:35, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Kokoko!

Hi, I was hoping to build an entry for KOKOKO! the band as I think their success is worthy of an encyclopedic entry, but I saw that you'd recently deleted a page built about them, I was just checking in that you'd be happy with me to start a new draft? I see it was under notoriety that the previous page got deleted. Is it possible to see the deleted draft? — Lajmmoore (talk) 09:18, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Learn to provide a link whenever you talk about a page: thus KOKOKO!. Text emailed. The Grauniad and I are agreed that the title should be Kokoko!. What on earth is "upcycling" of an instrument? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:43, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Many thanks and thanks for the advice, I am new to editing and still learning! They do call themselves KOKOKO! capitalized though, so perhaps that should be taken into account? "Kokoko!".Lajmmoore (talk) 10:33, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

  • So start the article with: Kokoko! (stylised as KOKOKO!) is a Congolese band from Kinshasa. I still want to know what "upcycling" is. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 18:15, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Please do not delete this article, it is needed for verification in vk !!!!!!!!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1joewikis (talkcontribs) 17:15, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

  • I have no idea what "verification in vk2 means but it looks to me like using Wikipedia as a free host. Incidentally, please decide on the spelling of your name - I have seen at least three different versions in Latin alphabet and, I think, two different in Cyrillic. The preferred version in Latin is probably Aliaksei Pechkurov. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:07, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Deleted: Advisory Council on Libraries

I started creating this page, my first new page, on Aug 9th but you speedily deleted it due to copyright issues which I'm not disagreeing with - I can't find the wikilink now, only this https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Advisory_Council_on_Libraries&action=edit&redlink=1 which I don't think is your edit. I am trying to write a new page on the same thing but I would appreciate it if you could let me have what you deleted so I can write it in my own words, thanks. PRBham (talk) 13:05, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

As I pointed out in WP:VPM#A reminder not to WP:BITE the newbies, "Subject already exist in Mainspace" is not a WP:CSD. Would you please revert your deletion of this? -- RoySmith (talk) 23:41, 10 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Some student projects are flawed because the tutor does not understand our ways. But that is not the case here. Team 8 were given clear instructions here which they have simply ignored:
  • "Select one group member whose sandbox space you'll all share to draft your article"
  • "Copy your edits into the article." Instead they applied an AfC submit tag.
Restored. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:07, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Thank you. Students are given clear instructions all the time and fail to execute properly. Making mistakes is how you learn. None of which adds up to "Subject already exist in Mainspace" being a CSD. -- RoySmith (talk) 11:15, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Martin Guigui

Hello, you recently deleted a page for Martin Guigui. Why was this page deleted and how can I improve the content? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tevanssake72 (talkcontribs) 14:02, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

  • For the deletion reason please read this. The best way to improve the content is for you to wait until someone with no CoI thinks the guy (you?) is notable and writes about him here. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 18:15, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Cressey College

Hello, RHaworth. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Cressey College".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! Dom from Paris (talk) 21:41, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Deleted Article

Dear RHaworth, I just received a message saying that an article I contributed was deleted. I have been trying to get this article Jeff Knoll published for many months now, but the draft is now deleted. What can I do to undelete the draft and try and get it published? Thanks, Daffodillpickle Daffodillpickle (talk) 21:52, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

  • "Trying for many months" - the evidence is that you have done nothing in that direction during the last six months so the page got deleted. Restored. Remember that you need to click on the "submit for review" button! Notability is still dubious so before you submit, I suggest you seek help here or here. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:23, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
  • You probably are Jeff Knoll. I see that the first version of Jeff Knoll was created by Informer-bot (talk · contribs) whose only edits were to create Encore Cinemas and Jeff Knoll. The second version was created by Jeffknoll (talk · contribs). — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:48, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

Just a note

Hi Ray, hope all is good. As you are one of the admins who deleted Swiggy, this is just a note to give you a heads-up that I am rewriting the article. Warmly, Lourdes 12:32, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

Please correct your gross incompetence by restoring the history of this page, because it looks now as if I wrote it, but I didn't. — Phil Bridger (talk) 19:32, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

While I wouldn't express it so harshly, I agree with Phil Bridger that your deletion of the article under A11 was inappropriate, for although the article did not reference a source, it did not "plainly indicate" that it was made up as required for A11. I was about to remove the A11 on that basis when you deleted it. Please restore the history of the page. — teb728 t c 21:40, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
Phil Bridger, see also Draft:Brain storm optimization, which was deleted as an abandoned draft. — Bellezzasolo Discuss 21:56, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
  • This reply is addressed to teb728 and Bellezzasolo - Phil Bridger's message was rude and imprecise so I would have ignored it. There are no deleted edits at brain storm optimization. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:33, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello, I am writing to ask what specifically qualified the draft of Draft:ASA Automotive Systems, Inc. for deletion? I am the person who created it. Please allow me to create an article that will not be deleted. I only included unbiased facts in the page and I did not create it for the purpose of promotion. I also have seen other, less notable software companies with Wikipedia articles, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Thank you, Shanmckmoran (talk) 19:35, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

  • You shot yourself in the foot. Look at the history: you created the page with a speedy deletion tag in place. You are probably just a spammer but I will let a regular draft reviewer decide. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:33, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

I'm not a spammer, but I thank you for your help. Obviously, I am new to this. --Shanmckmoran (talk) 18:35, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello RHaworth, I'm the author of the article Exile Memorial Museum. It seems that Diannaa marked my article for speedy deletion, under an alleged copyright violation. The thing is that the sentence I used from the source that I quoted (http://patrimoni.gencat.cat/en/collection/museum-exiles) comes from a public entity (Generalitat of Catalonia) that specifically states that it's not copyrighted (http://patrimoni.gencat.cat/en/authors-rights): The Administration allows for the re-use of content and information by everyone with no time limits or restrictions other than the basic conditions established in article 8 of Law 37/2007 (quote from source, no alteration or change in the nature of the information and specification from the date of the last update). That's why I used that sentence. Being this the case, can the article be restored? Otherwise, you can also restore the article so that I can edit that part of the text that is under an alleged copyright infringement. Thanks for the comprehension -- Beethoven (talk) 21:07, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Beethoven. The license specifies "no alteration or change in the nature of the information", which is not compatible with our license, because our license does permit modifications. Their license also specifies "Mention the date on which the information was last updated" and we can't guarantee that people who re-use Wikipedia content (which begins to happen almost immediately) will abide by that condition. I suggest that you re-write the material in your own words. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:08, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa, I don't have any problem with that. If you bring back the article I can re-write that sentence which came from that source.

As a side note, take into account that this license does seem to allow for modifications. It only establishes that those modifications can't alter the nature of the information. Article 8 of the Law 37/2007 establishes that public administrations might decide to impose some conditions on the re-use of information. Those conditions are divided by letters: a) No modification of the content, b) Not denature of the sense of the information, c) Quote the source, etc. In this case, the Catalan government doesn't include the letter a), but the b). Meaning one can modify it, but without an alteration in the nature. But I guess, as you said, that we can't control that people who re-use Wikipedia content will abide by that condition. So it's better to just re-write that part with my own words. -- Beethoven (talk) 23:27, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

  • I agree with Diannaa: the simplest thing is to re-write in your own words. I can let you have the text: read this. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:15, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Feel free to send me the text when you can. -- Beethoven (talk) 13:55, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

What criteria for speedy deletion does this meet? — Interstellarity (talk) 21:51, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

This page was deleted twice. The first time by you after I created an RFD for that. Then a bot recreated it, I tagged it then a different administrator deleted it. I understand why the second administrator deleted it, but why did you delete it the first time? — Interstellarity (talk) 17:40, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

  • If you wanted it deleted, what does it matter if somebody else also wanted it deleted? It was deleted because Jax 0677 had applied a valid {{db-author}} tag. And yes, I should have used that as the deletion reason. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 13:39, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Page Deletion

Ray, I just noticed you deleted a page I created for Andrew Lee. What could be the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmekidmfon (talkcontribs) 16:22, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

  • The main problem is that you have not learnt to use all the wonderful tools that the MediaWiki software provides. You have not provided a link so I have to guess that you are talking about Andrew Lee (Entrepreneur). You have not learnt to read the deletion/move log otherwise you would be able to guess that the substantive content of the page I deleted was #REDIRECT [[Draft:Andrew Lee (Entrepreneur)]]. And at the time you left the above message your contributions history would also have given a clue. Yes indeed: Wikipedia is very discriminatory: we disciminate on grounds of notability. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:15, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Draft:VELTRA

Hi RHaworth,

With regard to the deletion of Draft:VELTRA, it is a translation project of ja:ベルトラ, and I believe that the information of the company in English meets the interest of general public as the firm also operates the business globally. Regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by VT TMTMR (talkcontribs) 14:00, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Since I happen to be visiting here, even in promotionalism were removed, the company would not meet our requirements in WP:NCORP -- I point out the stock exchange listing is the auxiliary listing for still developing companies, which we typically consider Not Yet Notable. The enWP requirements for companies are stricter than most other WPs. DGG ( talk ) 03:54, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Page Deletion on grounds of advertisement

My page for Evan Nagao (World YoYo Champion) was deleted. I quoted the descriptions from a site called yoyoexpert because I was unaware it constituted an advertisement as I put it in a quote. Can I recover my draft and change it for resubmission? I do not work for Yoyoexpert (which I quoted) or Yoyofactory (the subject's employer). This was my first experience writing an article on Wikipedia, and if there are any other reasons for the deletion, please let me know so I do not make the same mistake again in the future. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrblackhole (talkcontribs) 23:25, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Laundering promotion with quotes doesn't make it any less promotional. Acroterion (talk) 23:44, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

I understand, which is why I, if I am able to recover the draft, will delete the quotes and only put specs. If that is considered promotion as well, I could also just state the models that the player has made with the company? — Mrblackhole (talk) 00:02, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Or whoever has the ability to recover the document can just give me the draft without that section (Signature Yo-Yos) at all, and I can rewrite it. — Mrblackhole (talk) 01:28, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Ignore this request, recreated draft without section on “signature yoyos” If you can provide it, a little advice on how to write about commercial products without being promotional would be helpful. — Mrblackhole (talk) 04:14, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Deleted Photo

You deleted two photos that I have permission to upload. Did you read the copyright page on the photos? https://www.hmdb.org/copyright.asp

  • I also contacted the owner of the web site to be sure I could unload the photos to Wikipedia.
  • Can I use the hmdb.org website photos on Wikipedia?
  • His reply:
  • "Please proceed to use photographs from our website, with attribution. While we don’t use a Creative Commons license, our “some rights reserved” copyright reserve commercial rights only, so please proceed. https://www.hmdb.org/copyright.asp Attribution for these particular photographs would be “By Dean Whittle via HMdb.org” or similar. J. J. Prats, Editor of www.hmdb.org"

Was my copyright upload pick wrong? If yes what? It was delelted so quickly, I did not have a chance to reply. Thank you Telecine Guy (talk) 21:53, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

Correction: I ask for clarity from the Web site manager. Here is his reply: "just name of photographer, comma, HMdb.org is all you’ll need for photographs. For the pages themselves, HMdb.org. J. J. Prats, Editor of www.hmdb.org" — Telecine Guy (talk) 00:13, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

As to these images, the licence terms you have quoted do seem to be invoking the non-commercial (NC) clause which is not allowed here. So the easiest thing is for the source site to explicitly release these images under a {{GFDL}} or {{cc-by-sa-4.0}} or both or less stringent licence and then you can safely upload them to the Commons. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:38, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi. I've read Section G11 and want to dispute your reason for deleting the page I created about Eric Solis. As stated in G11, "If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion." The content here is completely neutral and does not contain promotional language. If you disagree, please provide an example of the promotional language. The subject is notable, with multiple patents and citations from well-regarded media outlets. Please provide further evidence to support your claim that this subject should be the subject of speedy deletion. You seem to have an unusual preference for deleting pages. — GhostDust (talk) 05:54, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Hendrick Goltzius

RHaworth moved page Hendrik Goltzius to Hendrick Goltzius. There should have been a WP:RM on this - why wasn't there? — Johnbod (talk) 22:11, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Learn to provide a link whenever you talk about a page. Where is it written that every move requires an RM discussion? The addition of c to the guy's name was done with this edit. An hour later you edited the article and, apparently, agreed with the change. So why is it that in the last four years you have not taken steps to have the article moved? Hendrik Goltzius is currently a redirect with no previous edit history. If I understand the rules correctly, you would be able to move the article back and then Pichpich can go to all the trouble of raising a move request. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:31, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
    • I'm sure I hadn't noticed four years ago. This is a very poor excuse indeed. There should certainly have been an WP:RM (and that's where it is written), and of course Pichpich should not have moved it, especially in that sloppy way - a sloppiness repeated by you when you didn't add the alternative to the lead! Both names are very common, but in the absence of a discussion & analysis I suspect I might support "ick". But this is an important article & should not be moved on a whim. Cheng Hsin

Dear Mr RHaworth, Why did you delete the Cheng Hsin page from Wikipedia? I would like to re-establish it and would like some help. Regards, Brendan Lea 209.165.136.34 (talk) 08:49, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Count yourself lucky that I am talking to an IP address who could not provide a link. For the deletion reason read this. Text emailed. If you wish to try again, I recommend you to do so via AfC. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:31, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

What the hell?

This looks like an incredibly inappropriate question to ask of anyone. Is there something I'm missing? Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:41, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

Inappropriate.

A third voice saying very strongly that this is way inappropriate. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:42, 21 August 2019 (UTC)
