This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Schools. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Schools|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- Note that there are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove links to other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Schools.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Unnotable eventschool district. The only sources I've found were only county-level; it doesn't seem to be known elsewhere. Flux55 (my talk page) 22:15, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

- Comment. It's a school athletic division, not an event. RecycledPixels (talk) 01:14, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Well, the article made it seem like it was a conference for some reason. I'll strike that out... Flux55 (my talk page) 01:26, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- No, it's not a school district, either. It's a high school athletic district/conference/division, under the Virginia High School League sanctioning organization. I looked through the talk archives over at WP:SCHOOL and consensus seems to have been that these are notable. So, Keep. RecycledPixels (talk) 07:34, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

- Redirect to Dhankundi. Obviously has importance to the community it serves. Other than its verified existence haven't found any significant coverage, so notability criteria not met for a separate article. Rupples (talk) 10:02, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Primary school without any credible claim to meeting notability requirements at WP:NORG; namely "significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject." AusLondonder (talk) 11:46, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

- Comment. Likely delete. There is coverage, largely in the Oxford Mail but I don't think it amounts to a GNG pass. Sewage spill incident [1], a teacher at the school was featured in The Guardian re Brexit [2], local report on an Ofsted inspection [3] and letters about homelessness [4]. Primary schools do not normally have their own article and I don't believe this to be an exception. The school's teachers look to have been taking some kind of sociopolitical stance which has been being picked up in the local press and elsewhere, but no real evaluation or criticism. Possible redirect to Donnington, Oxfordshire, but not advocating. Rupples (talk) 13:15, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Delete - like all primary schools, has received the usual run-of-the-mill random coverage but nothing that would lead us all to imagine the school itself is notable. It might possibly be worth a one-line mention at Donnington, or more likely not. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:36, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Has had no secondary sources since creation, only sources I could find were trivial mentions in local media, certainly not significant coverage. Earlier AfD 16 years ago advanced arguments now rejected by the community regarding school notability. AusLondonder (talk) 10:48, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

- Keep. Available sourcing meets WP:GNG. It would be very rare for a secondary school in the UK not to. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:27, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Are you referring to sources in the article or elsewhere? Because the article contains just one source potentially acceptable, however it is a run of the mill local media mention of a government inspection. AusLondonder (talk) 15:15, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- No, I'm referring to sources that can be found with a search. AfD isn't only judged by sourcing already in the article. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:32, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Well I'm not finding them. I'm seeing a lot of directory listings and government websites which do not contribute to satisfying notability requirements. Simply asserting that all schools or all schools in the UK are notable is repeating an argument that has been comprehensively rejected by the community and should therefore be disregarded. AusLondonder (talk) 17:28, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

- Keep. Two cursory searches (beyond a plain Google look) give evidence of notability, with sources available through 1) Google Scholar (11 results, including Engaging parents: why and how Technical Report, Shaping a New Educational Landscape: Exploring Possibilities for Education in the 21st Century and Business Development - A sure way to spell success. This last one has a £14.00 fee, too steep for me, but still, it exists!) and 2) through ProQuest, accessible by logging in first to Wikmedia Commons, then The Wikipedia Library Platform available to any registered editor whose account is six months old and has 500 edits. Once on the platform, scroll down to ProQuest, where you can access 184 ProQuest links to articles containing the search term "Hadley Learning Community" (in quotes); even if only 10% have significant coverage, GNG would be met easily. See: Synetrix provides ICT for Hadley Learning Community, Olympian dives in with stories to tell in children's book, and Pupils are filmed for Children in Need choir, Primary keeps 'good' rating, Children dress up for author's visit. Were it up to me, editors nominating articles for AfD would be required to conduct searches beyond Google. — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 19:44, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Non-notable private high school. Has been tagged with citations needed template since 2012; all the sources are either not independent or not significant (e.g. database entries). I can find some news coverage of the school but all of it is routine daily reporting in the local paper, nothing that establishes this school as anything more than WP:MILL. - Keep as the nominator notes, it's actually got quite a bit of coverage in the Yakima Press-Herald, more than I expected actually. It's the only Roman Catholic high school in the diocese, which is somewhat unusual, and it's mentioned in a biography of Cardinal Francis George[5], because of the role he played in founding it.--Jahaza (talk) 04:56, 21 February 2024 (UTC)

Not notable per WP:NSCHOOL, that is, per WP:ORG or WP:GNG. All I can find about it online is similar to what's here: passing mentions in articles about other things, and routine school listings. - Weak keep Bearing in mind that high schools used to (before February 2017) be considered inherently notable, I have added what I believe to be just enough coverage to get this school over the top. It is listed and mentioned in various independent sources, including U.S. News & World Report, and this mention might fit the definition of WP:SIGCOV. Note that the school goes by a few different names and spellings including Mesifta Ohel Torah, Yeshiva Ohel Torah and Yeshiva High School of Monsey. StonyBrook babble 21:36, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- @StonyBrook: thank you for all the work you put in on this, but although the sources you've added are reliable, they only provide passing mentions of the school. We need to find significant coverage of the school itself, per WP:GNG. Wikishovel (talk) 14:38, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hence, the weak part of my !vote, and why I linked the RfC in it. But the closers of that same discussion also found that it "[stopped] short of a rough consensus" on the question of whether to grant inherent notability status on secondary schools. They went on to say that if a normal-depth search fails to find any evidence that the school exists, the article on the school should be deleted without the need for a deeper search. While no one is saying that every school is inherently notable, I think we can agree that a) there are more than enough sources here which demonstrate that the school exists b) enough can be gleaned from these sources to write at least a stub article about it. In the U.S. News & World Report I found basic information such as the school's address, type, and enrollment; from other sources I found some basic history about the founders, names of head teachers and controversy about getting the dormitory approved by the local authorities. In my view, the above constitutes WP:SIGCOV in the strictest sense of the term. Contrast this with another school that I found which has a very similar name to this one, except that the source for it only provides an address, and nothing more. StonyBrook babble 18:57, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

- Delete run-of-the-mill school that fails to satisfy the criteria outlined in WP:ORGDEPTH. In a WP:BEFORE search, it did not yield significant coverage from reliable sources, except for some passing mentions, profile listings, and a few unreliable sources that are insufficient to establish notability. The boarding school existed, but it didn't satisfy WP:NORG. Searches show that the school existed, but nothing notable about the school has been shown. Some news articles that are cited in id-wiki showed how some students of this school survived a tsunami in Sunda Strait in 2018, but that didn't show any notability to the school. Other references in id-wiki showed the school won some awards but that didn't confer any notability. Thank you. ✠ SunDawn ✠ (contact) 11:34, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

- Comment - There is not much to go on in the article. No sources, and apparent low enrollment. However there are books mentions. The only one I could track down to start with is [6], which talks about "Sekolah Islam' schools and cites this school as one of two examples (although there is a long note about why this school is a Sekolah Islam and not a pesentrans). It says, inter alia,
Pesantren Ibnu Salam Nurul Fikri Boarding School [is] known for producing top students who ace the national exams and win trophies in national and international competitions (see Figure 6.2).
Figure 6.2 shows a trophy cabinet but it is not clear if this is their cabinet or that of the other school visited. There is more about high quality teachers, it is run by school management, and has a non traditional currciulum. The book doesn't say how big the school is, but I would put this down as one reliable secondary source that appears independent of the subject. We need multiple for GNG, but despite the parlous state of the page, I don't think this is a clear delete. I'll keep looking. Also please note the name used in this book "Ibnu Salam Nurul Fikri" would be an alternative and search with or without "boarding". Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 12:34, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

It seems that a lot of people are looking at this school as an exemplar of islamic boarding schools and curricula. But there is also a question of whether there is some kind of promotion for this, and I note that few of the papers have any citations at all, and some are just preprints. Writing a paper is one thing, but not all papers are born equal. The school website tells me they have nearly 1000 pupils, and they also have a large staff. The various papers speak highly of the school, and even taking into account my caution regarding lack of citations of these, their own alumni pages and other pages seem to bear this out. If I was better versed in the culture and background I might have a stronger view, but on the basis of the evidence here, it is a large school, open for 25 years, studied in academic papers, mentioned in books and newspaper reports. It looks like a keep to me. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 16:39, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Keep. In contrast to the paucity of material on many schools put up in AfD this one does have coverage enough to satisfy the GNG. It seems to have been used as a model for research.

The school existed, but a search on Google didn't show any notability that will pass WP:NORG. - Comment. I've taken a closer look at some of the Google Scholar reports and I can't see anything of note with which to develop the article. Google Scholar has research reports for each of the 3 schools at this level in Purwakata. The one's I've looked at for this school are not helpful in establishing notability, and as there is no evidence of notability in the Indonesian wikipedia article on this school, I've struck my keep above. - Keep. Only found the one web search source with significant coverage. There's mentions or more in quite a few Google books but unable to translate so cannot confirm whether they amount to much. The Indonesian Wikipedia lists many notable alumni, which to me indicates the school is notable. Added a couple of confirmed notable alumni who have articles on the English Wikipedia. The school has been going in its present incarnation since 1957 and traces its roots further back. It seems to be recognised as a top Indonesian public school. The school features in a number of research papers in Google Scholar so I believe there's sufficient coverage to pass the GNG.[11] Rupples (talk) 18:15, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

I have not yet tracked down the exact time frame of the school's alternative title, McAdam Composite High School, but so far I found that name in use from the early 1950s through about 1984. - Comment This is a high school in Canada that has been around awhile. Not surprisingly there turn out to be plenty of sources. 1keyhole, it's not the state of the article that determines if it is notable and should be kept, it's whether sources WP:NEXIST. — Grand'mere Eugene has done a great job of demonstrating that they do. 1keyhole, a quick Google search is often insufficient, especially with subjects that are old enough to predate the internet that have had some name changes. Sources do not have to be online, and even when they are online, they are often out of reach of the search engine. A good WP:BEFORE investigation can be hard, but not doing it thoroughly can waste a lot of time for a lot of people. Jacona (talk) 22:51, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Keep. It seems high schools in Canada almost always turn out to be notable because sources exist whether or not they've been added in the article. This article had been short of them, but hey!, they are in it now. A thorough before could have saved us all some time here. - Comment - Note that searches are complicated here by the language conventions in naming which mean the name of the school on this page is wrong. This should be "Wittayakom Paknam school" located in Rayong, or perhaps with alternate English orthography of "Wittayakhom paknam school". That still doesn't turn up much. "Wittayakom school" gets a few more including a couple of book mentions, but at this stage I am not sure if that is the same school. Noting this information now for the sake of anyone else conducting searches. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 08:45, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- So "Wittayakom" is a type of (senior) school it seems. The name of this school is "Paknam school" in Rayong, also rendered "Pak nam" school. Under that name I find a lot more information. E.g. Google: [19]. I'll have to do some reading now. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 10:09, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- You've got it the wrong way round; Thai language places modifiers after nouns, so you have to translate terms in reverse of the English order. "Rayongwittayakom Paknam" is the name of the school. It's a daughter school in Paknam of Rayongwittayakom School, hence the name. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:16, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I got that far, but Rayong is the place, and isn't wittayakom the type of school? But useful information that is is the daughter school of another with a page. I'll modify to merge on that basis. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 14:19, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- Witthayakhom (and spelling variants) is just a common suffix that's sometimes combined with the province name to form the name of the province's main government school; it doesn't carry any actual meaning by itself. Each province will usually have one or two government secondary schools recognised as the main school for that province; these schools often (but don't always) have the province name in their names. See below regarding the merge suggestion though. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:59, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

Delete but I will happily move to redirect if a target can be found.(ETA: Merge to Rayongwittayakom School)(ETA2 - new comment below). I have reviewed all the sources I can turn up. Wat Paknam school is a different school, but I think I searched thoroughly through all English language sources of Wittayakom Paknam school, searching all references to Paknam and Pak nam school. There are book mentions, and a few news paper mentions. Book mentions are directories, the newspaper mentions incidental (e.g. an Elephant race started at the school, but doesn't seem to have had anything to do with the school). In a pollution incident, 140 students at another school were moved to this school temporarily, and in this thesis paper[20], students from the school were studied. Schools are not inherently notable, and this is not enough to pass GNG. One major caveat is that I speak no Thai, and there may be more sources in Thai. If SIGCOV can be demonstrated with Thai sources, it would be a keep, but as things stand we have no evidence of SIGCOV, and certainly not in the article. If there is a page about Rayong schools, it could be redirected there. It could also redirect to Rayong, although that page currently says nothing about education. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 15:50, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Updating to merge. As above, this is the daughter school of another in Rayong. They would sensibly be treated together, especially given the lack of sources for this daughter school. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 14:26, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- I don't really think merging would be desirable. "Daughter school" here mostly just means that staff from the original school gave some assistance in the establishment of the school. Sometimes schools are named as daughters of more famous schools just for marketing purposes. In reality they're completely independent schools with unrelated operations. Between deletion and merging to the other school, I'd prefer to delete. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:59, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- OK thanks. Rather than chopping and changing, I'll let this sit a couple of days to see if there are any more views or any better sources. Or, indeed, any better redirect targets. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 15:27, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

The result was soft delete. Based on minimal participation, this uncontroversial nomination is treated as an expired PROD (a.k.a. "soft deletion"). Editors can request the article's undeletion. ✗plicit 12:04, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

The school existed, but the school didn't pass WP:NORG. There are some news articles concerning the school - their students won some competitions but that does not confer automatic notability, especially as the competition is not notable as well. None of the search results showed any coverage about the school in depth. Thank you. ✠ SunDawn ✠ (contact) 02:22, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

The result was no consensus. Arguments are evenly divided among participating editors between Merging, Keeping and Deletion. This article can either be returned to AFD in a few months' time (sooner and we'll just get another No consensus closure) or those editors advocating Merge can discuss the possibility on the article talk page. - Keep I'm not seeing much evidence of a WP:BEFORE search here, let alone a WP:NOENG one. This is a college which existed for 40 years, much of it pre-dating the internet's prevalence but the sources provided in the Japanese article are enough for verification and, before we delete, a comprehensive search of offline sources in Japan should be done. DCsansei (talk) 17:30, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Delete Fails WP:NCORP, particularly WP:NSCHOOL. No indication of significance. The fact that it has existed for 40 years is neither here nor there. The length of existance is not a notability criteria. scope_creepTalk 18:09, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Weak keep. My Japanese is not good, but I'm able to find some scholarly works on the college, such as A Survey on Consciousness about Health, Physical Fitness and Exercise at Aichi Shukutoku Junior College, and it appears to have some connection with an extant university (Aichi Shukutoku University). I think that sufficient sourcing is likely to exist that could expand the article on the Junior College and, barring that, it would be better to merge the page to that on the University than deleting it altogether. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 23:12, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

- Merge to Chittoor#Education. Not enough sourcing for a stand alone article, fails GNG and NORG, (a dead link, a mill news story, a name mention). This is enough for a merge, if future sourcing develops it can be split. // Timothy :: talk 04:29, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
