Association team allocation

A total of 64 teams from 32 UEFA member associations participate in the 1981–82 UEFA Cup. The association ranking based on the UEFA country coefficients is used to determine the number of participating teams for each association:

  • Associations 1, 2 and 5 each have four teams qualify.
  • Associations 3–4 and 6-8 each have three teams qualify.
  • Associations 9–22 (except Wales) each have two teams qualify.
  • Associations 23–33 each have one team qualify.

Association ranking

For the 1981–82 UEFA Cup, the associations are allocated places according to their 1980 UEFA country coefficients, which takes into account their performance in European competitions from 1975–76 to 1979–80. The following table is the 1981 version used for places in the 1982-83 competition, with 1981-82 places shown.
