Albums by colour[edit]

The trend of naming an album by the color of its packaging can probably be traced back to The Beatles' self-titled album (generally known as The White Album), the first of which was done as a statement of punk as the "new music" by The Damned by reversing the packaging exactly to black & embossing The Damned in the place of The Beatles. There are also several albums known as The Blue Album, two called The Off-White Album (one by Martin Newell, the other by Dennis Miller), four albums known as The Green Album (one by Weezer, one by Orbital, one by Skankin Pickle and the other by Days of the New), and three called The Brown Album (by Primus, comedians Martin/Molloy, and Orbital again).

Also of note are The Grey Album, by DJ Danger Mouse, a remix of Jay-Z's Black Album with The Beatles' White Album. The group Beatallica, who play reworked Beatles songs in the style of Metallica, also called their second album The Grey Album (jokingly mixing the black and white of the two groups' self-titled releases).
